67. Emma sprang to her feet, “Letˈs hold a bake sale to raise funds!” Everyone presented lit up, nodding in agreement. With respective tasks, the children and parents got down to the preparation. Emmaˈs father made a huge banner reading “Saving the Playground” while Leoˈs mom occupied herself with paperwork needed to issue a permit for the sale. Meanwhile, kids worked jointly to design and hand out the leaflets. Eventually, the big day came. Almost every family in their community contributed their delicious homemade treats. That Sunday morning, the aroma of freshly baked cookies and cakes filled the air as people lined up to support the cause. Being a tremendous success, the sale in the farmerˈs market went for another 2 months.
Their hard work paid off. As news of their efforts spread, local businesses started pitching in. The hardware store donated paint and materials, while the gardening center provided plants and flowers. The children worked tirelessly, transforming the worn-out playground into a vibrant and inviting space once again. On the day of re-opening, the children organized a community celebration, inviting everyone who had contributed to the project to share the joy. The children of Meadowville taught the world that with determination, unity, and a little bit of fundraising, anything is possible. The playground stood as a testament to their resilience and the power of their youthful spirits, reminding everyone that dreams can be achieved when hearts come together.

For me, studying abroad has been a unique and rewarding experience. I knew before making this decision that I would be experiencing a different culture and making new friends from around the world.
When I first arrived in Strasbourg, France, I was so scared of certain things that I hadnˈt experienced back in the US. Using public transportation made me worried about getting to my residence safely. Still, I learned that I can push myself. I had to choose to either make reasonable decisions that would help me explore this new city or just wander around lost.
One of the challenges I have faced is the fact that I donˈt speak French properly and a lot of people here donˈt speak English. Consequently, using the translation app on my phone has been my No.1 asset (法宝) in Strasbourg, along with help from the international office here at the university. Iˈve learned that one of the key advantages of studying abroad is that it will speed up my language learning.
Additionally, Iˈve learned that studying abroad can provide access to unique academic and career opportunities. Thereˈs one project in one of my classes that requires me to research the technology company Lenovo and its innovations. As a group, our task is to innovate new ideas that we think would be helpful to the company and will increase the companyˈs revenue(收入). We arranged a Zoom meeting with Lenovo Franceˈs district manager to ensure that our findings are accurate, and that we have proof of our groupˈs conclusions.
In Europe in general, and France specifically, the education system is very different because it allows students to experience first-hand what they are studying in the classroom by way of group work with professionals. To me, that becomes a key advantage that will make me a more attractive prospect for employers, as it demonstrates my willingness to take risks, and to pursue a global mindset.
24.What scared the author initially upon arriving in Strasbourg?()
A. Language barrier. B. Finding the residence.
C. Public transportation safety. D. Feeling lost in the new city.
25.How did the author manage to communicate effectively at the beginning?()

A. By providing a detailed explanation.
B. By presenting a specific instance.
C. By offering a research result.
D. By telling a classic story.
27.In what way is the education system in France unique?()
A. It supports practical learning with professionals.
B. It encourages project-based learning approaches.
C. It motivates studentsˈ willingness to take risks.
D. It focuses on future career development.

A Bachelor of Arts degree requires basic skills in a second language. It means you have to complete two years of university-level language study. I was lucky because I had studied Spanish before, though I wasnˈt good at it, so I chose this language to learn at college. But that first day of Spanish class practising mock(模拟的)conversations in an overcrowded room felt like the worst days of middle school Spanish classes. I felt I was not improving.
After my first year in college, I decided to travel to a Spanish-speaking country for part of the summer to improve my Spanish. I travelled to Guatemala for three weeksˈ study: two in Quetzaltenango, which is a mid-sized town, and one in a rural area. I lived with a host family, had one-on-one language classes, learned traditional weaving, drank the most delicious hot chocolate I have ever tasted and went to strange places by myself. I communicated. I learned.
It was not until I travelled that I discovered the power of a second language. I had opened the door to conversations with people on a whole continent. By the time I did my official study abroad in Valdivia, Chile for the spring quarter of my second year of college, I was already at a fluent speaking level. I could make friends. I could talk about ideas and peopleˈs lives. I could ask questions. I could be myself.
When youˈre trying to learn a second language in a classroom, youˈre surrounded by other people who also donˈt speak the language. So whatever stage of language learning youˈre now at, try to push yourself to find a couple of non-class opportunities to improve your skills. If youˈre in a university town, there are probably language learners looking for language partners. There are increasing opportunities for formal and informal tutoring online in various languages. Theyˈre all out there; itˈs just up to you to find them.
28.How did the author most probably find his/her Spanish class at college?
A. Useful. B. Interesting. C. Disappointing. D. Challenging.
29.What did the author do in Guatemala?
A. He/She took private Spanish classes.
B. He/She taught the locals to weave.
C. He/She travelled all around the country.
D. He/She explored strange places with friends.
30.What can be learned about the author from Paragraph 3?
A. He/She travelled a lot during college.
B. He/She found language learning difficult.
C. He/She had a difficult time in Valdivia.
D. He/She made great progress in Spanish.
31.Why does the author write the text?
A. To advertise online language classes.
B. To encourage language learners to put the language to use.
C. To show the power of a second language.
D. To explain how to get a Bachelor of Arts degree.

Chinese Culture Shown to the World with Love
Recently, a female short video blogger specialising in traditional Chinese cooking and handicrafts, has gained worldwide popularity.
She has about 27 million followers on social media networks at home and abroad. Many foreigners say they have got to know traditional Chinese food culture via her channel.
It is the spirit of craftsmanship(技艺)behind her works that makes her video clips attractive. She strictly follows the authentic traditional steps and procedures in making traditional Chinese food and handicrafts, such as peach flower wine and silk, and goes to great lengths to ensure her videos are accurate. Sometimes she spends several months producing one of her videos.
She has been inheriting(继承)traditional Chinese culture in a rather creative way. A closer look at her videos will show that they are never with any “analysis” that makes people feel bored. They just show audiences each and every detail of traditional Chinese culture so that the latter knows how Chinese live their beautiful and elegant lives. It is that universal appeal that makes her works so attractive. Thanks to her efforts, many intangible cultural heritages that only existed in memories and written records now appear before our eyes. Via her short videos, she presents the image of a beautiful and friendly China.
With the growth of the Chinese economy, people overseas are showing more interest in traditional Chinese culture. She has shown how to satisfy that interest in a good way, namely showing the best parts of traditional Chinese culture with her heart.
To effectively present the beauty of Chinese culture to the world, we need more short video bloggers like her.

A. They promote the sales of Chinese food and handicrafts.

C. They aim to introduce traditional Chinese food culture and handicrafts worldwide.
D. They are based on her familyˈs recipes of making traditional Chinese food.
33.What could be inferred from Paragraph 3 and Paragraph 4?
A. Analysis of Chinese culture in her videos makes people bored.
B. Details and accuracy play significant roles in the success of her videos.
C. She makes sure all of her video clips are short enough to be downloaded.
D. Cultural heritages usually exist in memories and written accounts.
34.What does the underlined word “intangible” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. nonphysical B. inaccessible C. invaluable D. unnoticeable
35.What is the authorˈs purpose in writing the passage?
A. To provide guidance on cooking and making handicrafts.
B. To suggest a way of attracting more followers on social media.
C. To give an example of how to gain worldwide popularity as a short video blogger.

In a small town called Meadowville, there was a beloved playground that had brought joy to generations of children. 11-year-old Emma and her best friends, Alice and Leo, were among those who idled away their after-school time and weekends there all year round. It was a place where imaginations soared, friendships blossomed, and laughter echoed through the air.
One afternoon, rushing out the school gate, Emma shouted, “Letˈs go down to the playground!” The three of them got there soon, but it was locked up. The fence was broken and the swings had tape around them.
Shocked, they stared into each otherˈs eyes, not knowing why. A man approached them, explaining that it was unsafe and the council had decided to shut it down.
“Will they fix it?” asked Alice.
“No, it will cost a lot, at least ten thousand dollars.” the man shook his head, walking away. Leo looked desperate, gazing at the playground and then hanging his head, as if bidding farewell. “We need to get some help!” Emma dragged Alice towards her home.
On stepping into the house, Emma exclaimed, “Dad! We need ten thousand dollars...” Her dad, who was drinking coffee, turned his head around, “What?” Alice then revealed the truth. Hearing this heart-breaking news, Emmaˈs parents were more than surprised, for their childhood was closely connected with that playground as well. They spread the news to other families.
Instead of providing the money, they suggested the children take matters into their own hands while parents offered assistance.
