Set up in 1996, the Sleipner project removes CO2 from natural gas to make it marketable. But instead of releasing (释放) the CO2 into the atmosphere, people bury this greenhouse gas underground. This project stores around 1 million metric tons of CO2 per year and is praised by many as a pioneering success in global attempts to cut down greenhouse gas emissions. Gradually stopping using fossil fuels is the key to reducing emissions and dealing with climate change. However, a set of technologies called carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS) is able to help achieve the world’s goals: cutting CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030 and reaching net-zero emissions by 2050. These technologies can capture, use or store the CO2 produced by power plants or industrial activities, or take it directly from the air. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, a UN organization responsible for assessing climate change science, lists CCUS as one of the necessary ways to cut down emissions and meet temperature control goals. Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage CCUS technologies often capture CO2 from coal or natural gas power generation or industrial processes, such as steel manufacturing. The CO2 is compressed (压缩) into a liquid under high pressure so that it can be easily transported through pipelines to sites where it may be stored or used for other purposes. 1. What can we learn about the Sleipner project? A. It takes CO2 out of natural gas. B. It aims to bury CO2 underground. C. It produces natural gas by capturing CO2 D. It has stored 1 million metric tons of CO2 since 1996. 2. What can be inferred from the picture? A. The primary function of CO2. B. The limitation of the CCUS. C. The whole process of treating CO2 D. The operating costs of the CCUS. 3. Why is CO2 compressed into a liquid according to the text? A. To enable its release at a higher rate. B. To allow it to be mixed with natural gas. C. To measure the total amount of the captured CO2. D. To make its transportation through pipelines easier. B Fan Siyan was born in 1990 in Pizhou, a city in Jiangsu Province. After she graduated from university in 2012, she faced a dilemma (两难): accept a comfortable, decent-paying job in a busy city or return to her hometown to work in the fields, where she was raised. After much consideration, she chose the latter. In this way, she could use her knowledge to help her fellow villagers live better. Shortly after she moved back, Fan found out many of the farmers suffered economic losses because they lacked technical skills. She quickly realized agriculture was not simply planting and harvesting; rather, it required constant learning and exploration. She began studying agricultural techniques, and consulting experts, and she gradually gained rich practical experience. “To grow a business, one cannot just rely on their own strength,” Fan has said many times. In 2016, she co-founded Dazhuang Agricultural Science and Technology Development Company with several like-minded partners. They developed a demonstration base to promote a modern, industrialized vegetable plantation, which covered 6 hectares of land. They worked tirelessly as they conducted research, developed vegetable seeds, and promoted agricultural technologies. Now the company has expanded its seedling base from 6 hectares to 38 hectares. In 2022, Fan established a field women’s home. She held various training sessions, addressing marketing, planting techniques and family management. By the end of 2024, Fan had helped more than 200 women secure jobs, 19 women start family farms, and 41 women further their education. With her help, many rural women have begun businesses. Together, those women have become a vital force in rural revitalization (振兴). Fan’s efforts have earned her widespread recognition. She was chosen as a March 8th Red-Banner Holder in 2023. Fan says she will continue leading villagers in working hard and using practical actions to shoulder the responsibility of being a “new farmer”. She believes, with a collective effort, rural areas will become even more beautiful and brilliant. 4. Why did Fan decide to return home? A. To find a decent and high-paying job. B. To explore agricultural techniques. C. To escape the stressful life in big cities. D. To apply her knowledge to helping villagers. 5. What did Fan discover soon after moving back? A. Farming required science. B. Farming had low profits. C. Farmers needed economic aid. D. Farmers ignored education. 6. What did Fan stress in paragraph 3? A. The hardship in running a business. B. The significance of strong leadership. C. The great power of cooperation. D. The prospect of modern agriculture. 7. What is the purpose of Fan’s field women’s home? A. To help women find jobs in cities. B. To offer positions to rural women. C. To manage family issues for women. D. To improve women’s overall ability. C Eggs laid by dinosaurs have provided experts with a new way to tell prehistoric time. By looking to radioactive minerals taken up by eggshells in the deep past, experts have uncovered a novel method to determine when those eggs were laid. Rather than figuring out the dates of fossils (化石) from the rocks containing them, the new study proposes that radioactive minerals like uranium in fossil eggshells can be used to directly date the fossils and improve prehistoric timelines. Experts dig up and study fossils so we can reconstruct the story of life on Earth, but a story without a timeline is at best, meaningless, and at worst, misleading. Without a sense of when a prehistoric creature lived, a fossil out of context in time and space is actually useless. Up until now, the prehistoric timeline has been set by the rocks in which fossils are buried. When ancient volcanoes poured out hot liquid rock and ash (灰烬), the outpourings of the eruptions contained radioactive minerals like uranium. Uranium turns to lead at a constant rate over time, and for decades scientists have been able to look at the ratio (比例) of uranium to lead in a rock sample to calculate just how long ago that rock must have formed. The problem for experts is that many fossils are found in layers (地层) that lack these radioactive timekeepers. If a dinosaur fossil wasn’t found in a rock layer full of ash or solidified volcanic rocks, they could only roughly estimate the fossil’s age. “There are important dinosaur sites in North America and Asia that preserve eggshells and bones but they haven’t been accurately dated due to lack of ash layers,” says Darla Zelenitsky, an expert at University of Calgary. Though she warns that “dinosaur eggshells aren’t found very often,” she notes that with uranium-lead dating, “when they are found, they could help us figure out the age of fossil sites, especially in places that don’t have volcanic ash layers.” 8. What is the main contribution of the new research? A. Providing a straight way to date fossils. B. Identifying previously unknown dinosaurs. C. Discovering new minerals in eggshells. D. Revealing the extinctions of ancient creatures. 9. What does paragraph 3 mainly talk about? A. The process of fossil formation in rocks. B. The danger of ancient volcanic eruptions. C. The reason for studying prehistoric life. D. The principle of rock-based dating methods. 10. What limited the previous dating method? A. The shortage of fossil samples. B. The unreliability of the technology. C. The high dependence on specific rocks. D. The high cost of conducting tests. 11. What is Zelenitsky’s view on the new method? A. It will replace all existing techniques. B. It is useful where volcanic ash is absent. C It has proved to be highly accurate. D. It makes finding eggshells much easier. D Every autumn, as leaves turn from green to brown and float to the ground, we turn into a nation of outdoor undertakers. There will be raking (耙), and pile-making, and paper bags stuffed with leaves, lined up along the edges of sidewalks like defensive towers. I first encountered this strange practice as a child, shortly after my family arrived in Connecticut in 1989. America’s war on leaves made no sense to me then, and it makes no sense to me now. Healthy soil requires “dampness and heat and warmth,” says Annabel Renwick, a native plant expert. Leaves provide all three, whether you leave them where they fall, spread them in flower beds, or put them in a compost (堆肥) pile. Why do so many of us spend money and effort sweeping all that natural richness away? “I think it’s a habit,” Renwick said. For many people, a lawn covered with fallen leaves goes against their sensibilities. It suggests a household that lacks rules, or works by rules other than the ones most of us have been taught to accept. I’ve come to think that this phenomenon is among the most pernicious forces that can work on a society or an individual. We keep doing the same thing because the emotional and cultural cost of doing something new is simply too high. We sink into habits we never really meant to adopt, habits we know are not making us happy or healthy. Whatever else leaves are, they are real. As they change color, dry up and flame out, they remind us of the beauty of life, and of life’s impermanence (无常). A drop of existential awareness may even make us a more caring society. After all, we too are leaves, facing the unavoidable autumn. Do you really want to spend your time on Earth arguing with others online? A carpet of leaves is alive with color and life, an ocean of reds and browns. Don’t worry about the spiders. Dive right in. 12. How does the author lead in the topic? A. By listing examples. B. By giving a definition. C. By describing scenes. D. By making a comparison. 13. What is the primary reason for people clearing leaves according to Renwick? A. Scientific advice. B. Common practice. C Health concern. D. Economic benefit. 14. What does the underlined word “pernicious” in paragraph 4 probably mean? A. Harmful. B. Useful. C. Precious. D. Inspiring. 15. What does the author advise readers to do about fallen leaves? A. Clean them for a better environment. B. Accept and enjoy their natural state. C. Appreciate their ecological functions. D. Make full use of them for artistic aims. Yoga is one of the most popular fitness methods today. ____16____ An analysis of 30 controlled trials showed regular, high-intensity (高强度的) yoga is more strongly associated with improved sleep than walking, resistance training (阻力训练) and combination exercise. When researchers analyzed the data, they found that high-intensity yoga for less than 30 minutes, twice a week, was the best exercise for sleep improvement. ____17____ Positive results were seen in as few as 8 to 10 weeks. ____18____ It found that aerobic (有氧的) exercise or mid-intensity exercise three times a week is the most effective way to improve sleep quality. One of the studies, however, did indicate yoga had more significant effects on sleep outcomes than other exercise types. Besides, yoga is difficult to categorize as either aerobic or anaerobic. And its intensity can vary depending on the technique used. Perhaps these differences can explain why the outcomes differ from trial to trial. The most recent analysis cannot explain why yoga may be particularly helpful for sleep. ____19____ Not only can yoga raise the heart rate and push the muscles, it can also adjust breathing. Breath control can activate the parasympathetic nervous (副交感神经) system, which is involved in “rest and digestion”. Some studies even suggest yoga controls brainwave activity patterns, which could promote deeper sleep. While exercise in general is helpful for sleep, studies that compare specific exercises and their long-term effects are lacking. We should be careful when interpreting findings from studies on sleep disturbances, given the limited number of studies included and the unique characteristics of the population with sleep disturbances. Our bodies and brains are all different, and there’s no one-size-fits-all solution to sleep disturbances. ____20____ A. However, several possibilities exist. B. Different exercises tend to have the same effect. C. We cannot ignore the significance of doing sports. D. Sweating on a yoga blanket is just one available option of many. E. The findings are somewhat inconsistent with a previous analysis. F. And it could be one of the best exercises for improving sleep in the long run. G. Walking was the next best form of physical activity, followed by resistance exercise. Around 15 years ago, I was working at a care home. He didn’t want to go, but a promise of some fast food convinced him, and he ended up absolutely loving it and has become an even bigger fan than I am! A few years later, the band toured again in my city. Our fondness for this band affected my youngest child as well. So, when a new tour was announced, I eagerly bought tickets for the three of us. Not the best of seats due to the tight budget, but who cared? We were going to have a great time seeing the best band in the world. At that time, my eldest child was already taller than me, while my youngest child was not so tall. This meant that when the concert started and the people in the front row decided to stay standing, he could not see past them, only catching glimpses of the stage between their bodies. It was obvious that he was upset, and it was tearing at my heart that he was not able to enjoy the show, and I could not either. I did ask the group in front if they were going to stay standing, and the answer was a definite yes. They weren’t doing anything wrong. Though I was disappointed, I understood that they had paid their money too and wanted to enjoy themselves, which was their right. So I decided to go to guest services for help. The lady was very understanding, but all she could offer was restricted-view seats, although closer to the stage. Smiling, she gave me three tickets and told me which door to go through. I quickly grabbed my kids, and we dashed to the correct door. To our surprise, our seats weren’t beside the stage. The usher (引座员), after checking the tickets we had been given, directed us towards a different area-the VIP section. Feeling shocked, I asked if there was something wrong with the seats. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the VIP section we had a clear view of the performance. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 南阳六校高二年级期末素质评价 英语 注意事项: 1. How much is the shirt? Up until now the prehistoric timeline has been set by the rocks in which fossils are buried. C. It has proved to be highly accurate. D. It makes finding eggshells much easier. A 9. D 10. C 11. 根据第二段“Rather than figuring out the dates of fossils (化石) from the rocks containing them, the new study proposes that radioactive minerals like uranium in fossil eggshells can be used to directly date the fossils and improve prehistoric timelines.(这项新研究并非通过分析含有化石的岩石来确定化石的年代,而是提出可以利用化石蛋壳中的铀等放射性矿物质来直接测定化石的年代,并从而完善史前时间线)”可知,新研究的主要贡献是提供了一种直接测定化石年代的方法。故选A。 根据第三段“Up until now, the prehistoric timeline has been set by the rocks in which fossils are buried. When ancient volcanoes poured out hot liquid rock and ash (灰烬), the outpourings of the eruptions contained radioactive minerals like uranium. Uranium turns to lead at a constant rate over time, and for decades scientists have been able to look at the ratio (比例) of uranium to lead in a rock sample to calculate just how long ago that rock must have formed.(迄今为止,史前时期的年代测定标准是基于埋藏着化石的岩石。当古老的火山喷发时,会喷出炽热的岩浆和灰烬。这些喷发物中含有像铀这样的放射性矿物质。铀在经过漫长的时间后会以恒定的速率转化为铅。数十年来,科学家们一直能够通过观察岩石样本中铀与铅的比例来计算出该岩石形成的时间距离现在有多久)”可知,本段核心内容是岩石测定法的原理。故选D。 【10题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段“Up until now, the prehistoric timeline has been set by the rocks in which fossils are buried. When ancient volcanoes poured out hot liquid rock and ash (灰烬), the outpourings of the eruptions contained radioactive minerals like uranium. Uranium turns to lead at a constant rate over time, and for decades scientists have been able to look at the ratio (比例) of uranium to lead in a rock sample to calculate just how long ago that rock must have formed.(时至今日,史前年代的划分一直依据埋藏化石的岩石。古代火山喷发时,会涌出滚烫的岩浆和火山灰,这些喷发物中含有铀等放射性矿物质。随着时间的推移,铀会以恒定的速率衰变成铅。几十年来,科学家通过观察岩石样本中的铀铅比,就能计算出这块岩石形成的时间)”可知,传统方法的局限在于对特定岩石,如火山岩的过度依赖。故选C。 【11题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段““There are important dinosaur sites in North America and Asia that preserve eggshells and bones but they haven’t been accurately dated due to lack of ash layers,” says Darla Zelenitsky, an expert at University of Calgary. Though she warns that “dinosaur eggshells aren’t found very often,” she notes that with uranium-lead dating, “when they are found, they could help us figure out the age of fossil sites, especially in places that don’t have volcanic ash layers.”(卡尔加里大学的专家达拉·泽伦斯基表示:“北美和亚洲有一些重要的恐龙遗址,其中保存着蛋壳和骨骼,但由于缺乏火山灰层,这些遗址的年代无法得到准确测定。”她同时提醒道:“恐龙蛋壳并不常见。”但她指出,通过铀铅测年法,“一旦发现这些蛋壳,就能帮助我们确定化石遗址的年代,尤其是在那些没有火山灰层的地区。”)”可知,她认为新方法在无火山灰的环境中具有应用价值。故选B。 D Every autumn, as leaves turn from green to brown and float to the ground, we turn into a nation of outdoor undertakers. C. Health concern. C 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第一段内容“Every autumn, as leaves turn from green to brown and float to the ground, we turn into a nation of outdoor undertakers. There will be raking (耙), and pile-making, and paper bags stuffed with leaves, lined up along the edges of sidewalks like defensive towers.(每年秋天,当树叶由绿色变为棕色并飘落至地面时,我们便仿佛变成了一群户外的“殡仪员”。会有清扫工作,会有树叶堆积的工作,还有用纸袋装满树叶,这些纸袋会沿着人行道边缘整齐地排列着,就像防御工事的塔楼一样。)”可知,作者通过描绘秋季落叶时人们清扫、堆积树叶的场景,生动地引入话题,属于“场景描写”的写作手法。故选C。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段Renwick的观点“I think it’s a habit(我觉得这就是一种习惯)”以及下文“For many people, a lawn covered with fallen leaves goes against their sensibilities.(对许多人来说,一片铺满落叶的草坪会让他们感到不适。)” 根据划线词下文“We keep doing the same thing because the emotional and cultural cost of doing something new is simply too high. We sink into habits we never really meant to adopt, habits we know are not making us happy or healthy.(我们一直重复做同样的事情,是因为尝试做新事物所带来的情感和文化代价实在是太高了。我们不知不觉地陷入了那些我们原本并不想养成的习惯之中,而这些习惯显然既不能让我们感到快乐,也不能让我们保持健康)”可知,作者意识到,上文提到的“美国社会秋季清扫落叶”的现象是负面的,能够对社会或个人产生负面影响的,划线词意思是“有害的”,与harmful意思相近。故选A。 根据文章最后一段“A carpet of leaves is alive with color and life, an ocean of reds and browns. Don’t worry about the spiders. 16. F 17. G 18. E 19. A 20. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ In the VIP section, we had a clear view of the performance. __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: Feeling shocked, I asked if there was something wrong with the seats. The usher shook his head gently and smiled, saying the guest services lady had upgraded our tickets for free. “She has just called me, saying she just wants your family to enjoy the music and have a wonderful memory, and the band always cares about their fans’ experience, especially the young ones,” the usher explained. My youngest child’s eyes lit up like stars, and my eldest child patted my shoulder in excitement. We thanked the usher repeatedly and hurried to our seats, our worries fading away in an instant. In the VIP section, we had a clear view of the performance. Every member of the band was within easy sight, and we could even see the sweat on their foreheads. My youngest sang along loudly, waving his hands to the rhythm, while my eldest recorded the whole show with his phone. When the lead singer noticed us and waved, the three of us jumped up and down, screaming with joy. That day, that lady’s gesture was more than just a seat upgrade; it was a profound lesson in empathy. That unforgettable experience often reminds me that even the smallest good deeds can make a great difference, and that true joy often comes not just from the event itself, but from the unexpected kindness it inspires. 词汇激活 行为类 ①解释:explain/illustrate ②关心:care about/be concerned about ③消失:fade away/vanish 情绪类 ①激动:excitement/thrill ②难忘:unforgettable/memorable 【点睛】[高分句型1] We thanked the usher repeatedly and hurried to our seats, our worries fading away in an instant.(运用了独立主格结构) [高分句型2] That unforgettable experience often reminds me that even the smallest good deeds can make a great difference, and that true joy often comes not just from the event itself, but from the unexpected kindness it inspires.(运用了that引导宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
