For 15 years, Hillary Cohen has been busy with behind-the-scenes work in the film industry. One of the benefits she enjoyed was the meals provided on the set — delicious, chef-prepared food like steak and seafood. But she’d long been anxious about what happened to the leftovers (剩饭).
“They would just throw it out,” said Cohen, 40. “I was always told, ‘We can’t give away the food. … It’s too hard. If someone gets sick, we will have to take the responsibility.’”
For years, Cohen had a solution in mind about how to send the leftovers from sets to people in need, but her 16-hour workdays didn’t give her much opportunity to carry it out. She called Samantha Luu, a co-worker who was also deeply concerned about the problem, and together they got to work and started Every Day Action, a nonprofit (非盈利组织) that picks up extra food from film sets and other businesses and sends it to communities in need around Los Angeles.
At first, Cohen and Luu made most of the pickups themselves with the help of volunteers. But when they went back to work, that became unmanageable. As a result, they developed their Film Industry Driver Program. This program gives some money for work and gas to people like production helpers and background performers who help them.
While their services are free, Cohen and Luu strongly encourage sets to give away $50 for every pickup to help pay the drivers and cover the cost of gas. After working on this effort for nearly four years without pay, Cohen and Luu now do this work full-time.
Cohen isn’t sure if she is done with working in the film industry, for now her focus is on Every Day Action: connecting small parts — one set, one meal, one person at a time. Seeing the direct impact of their work on communities brings them great joy and a sense of achievement. And this matters a lot to them.
24. Why was the extra food on film sets usually thrown out according to Cohen?
A. Its taste was poor. B. It might bring trouble.
C. It was hard to keep fresh. D. Its materials were unhealthy.
25. What made Cohen fail to deal with leftover food earlier?
A. Her heavy work. B. Her strong fear.
C. The disagreement from her partner. D. The absence of expert suggestions.
26. What can be inferred about the Film Industry Driver Program?
A. It needs the government’s support. B. It creates job opportunities for locals.
C. It pays film workers for their help. D. It runs on the contributions of film sets.
27. What message does the text mainly show?
A. Much food from the film industry is often wasted.
B. Starting a nonprofit calls for lots of time and energy.
C. Volunteers are the most important part of any service.
D. One person’s concern can grow into an organized effort.
C
Scientists have found an unusual “hybrid” (杂交) bird in Texas — a mix of a blue jay and a green jay.
Brian Stokes is studying for his Ph. D. at the University of Texas at Austin. His work focuses on green jays —birds common in Central America and Mexico. So when Brian saw a photo of an unusual-looking bird on social media, he got very interested in it.
It was blue and looked similar to a blue jay, a bird common in Eastern North America. But something wasn’t quite right. Instead of having white face coloring like a blue jay, this bird’s face is black. The bird is medium in size, not as big as a blue jay and not as small as a green jay.
Brian got in touch with the woman who had posted the picture, and she invited him to come and see the bird for himself. To study the bird more carefully, Brian brought a light net that he hoped would allow him to catch and keep the bird for some time. It took a lot of effort, but a few days later, he did succeed. Quickly, he got a few pictures, took a blood sample, and placed a tracker around the bird’s leg. Then he set it free, unharmed. Working with a biology professor at the university, Brian was sure that the bird was a hybrid. The father was a blue jay (common in Eastern North America) and the mother was a green jay (common in Central America).
Long, long ago, both kinds of jay s developed from the same kind of bird. But for seven million years!, they have been completely separate. So such a hybrid is very surprising. In the mid-1900s, the living areas of the two birds did not really overlap. But in recent years, as the temperatures have risen, green jays have been moving further north, and blue jays have been traveling further west.
Until now, the researchers haven’t given the hybrid a name yet, but they wonder if it should be called a “Grue Jay”.
28. How did Brian’s educational background help him in the discovery?
A. It helped him catch the bird quickly.
B. It taught him to turn to social media for help.
C. It made him able to realise the bird’s uncommonness.
D. It allowed him to use the university’s lab for blood tests.
29. What can be known about the hybrid?
A. It has a black face. B. It has a green body.
C. It is much larger than any other jay. D. It sings like two birds at the same time.
30. What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A. The steps Brian took to study the bird.
B. The way Brian made the woman believe him.
C. The reasons why Brian fixed a tracker on the bird.
D. The difficulty Brian had in finding the bird’s living area.
31. What does the underlined word “overlap” in paragraph 5 probably mean?
A. Disappear. B. Cross. C. Suffer. D. Remain.
D
Drones (无人机) have been used in farming since the 1980s in some countries. The earliest drones used in farming were very small and could carry out only a few tasks. But improvements in drones have given rise to larger models which are able to carry heavier loads (装载). Recent models are even able to carry loads of up to 100 kg. This has made drones able to do a wide variety of tasks and be used on farms of different sizes.
The first farm drones were expensive for small farmers. Although this is still true for drone ownership, prices have fallen sharply because of rapid technological advances and competition. Moreover, the rental (租赁) service provided by small businesses and farmer groups has made it easy for farmers to use drones at prices similar to or lower than those paid to farm workers.
People have found new ways to do farm work. First, in rich countries, people started using big machines like tractors to help plant and pick crops faster. This change started long ago and took over 100 years to reach Asia. Now, a new change is taking place with flying drones. It started in China less than ten years ago and is spreading quickly around the world. Two Chinese companies, DJI and XAG, produce most of the drones used in farming worldwide.
The drone revolution (变革) is completely changing historical patterns of farming technology spreading. In just 5 years, millions of farmers across Asia and beyond, many of whom are small holders, will be able to use this new technology. There are strong signs that drones can raise the efficiency and productivity of farming, improve worker safety, and better livelihoods in the countryside.
32. Why can modern drones be used for various farm tasks?
A. They are easier to control. B. They are able to fly a longer time.
C. They can carry much heavier weights. D. They can work under more weather conditions.
33. What can we know about small farmers using drones now?
A. They prefer farm workers to drones. B. They can get drone services at a lower cost.
C. They can afford to buy their own drones. D. They need to learn more skills to run drones.
34. What is the author’s attitude towards the future of farm drones?
A. Hopeful. B. Worried. C. Uncaring. D. Unclear.
35. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. How Drones Are Changing Farming
B. The History of Drone Technology Development
C. The Advantages and Disadvantages of Farm Drones
D. How Chinese Drone Companies Lead the Global Market

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The white wall in the doctor’s room was like a cold, wet cloth. It held the word “cancer” tight, and then struck me hard with it. I felt something break inside me. When I walked out of the hospital, the whole world looked gray to me. Even the sun on my skin felt sharp and cold.
I began locking myself in my room, drawing the curtains tight as if that could shut out the cancer. One day, when I found the scarf my mother had made for me, memories came flooding back. When I was a child, I broke my leg and cried in bed, saying, “I’ll never be able to run again.” My mother sat beside me, holding me in her arms. Her voice was soft yet firm: “Silly child, if you can’t run, we can walk slowly. When the sky turns gray, the sun will always come out again. To live, you must hold something joyful in your heart. Otherwise, life is not worth living.” Her words were like a seed (种子) buried in my heart, suddenly coming out at this moment. Right, I always said, “I’ll write when I’m less busy” or “I’ll pursue my dream when I retire”. But “later” never comes by waiting. Now, perhaps it was the perfect time to do the things I’d put aside for “lack of time”, like writing.
At first, when I sat at my desk, I couldn’t write a single word. My mind was a mess: fear of my illness, confusion about the future... I copied the usual writing patterns in some books. I forced myself to finish a short story and sent it to a literary magazine. I checked my email every day, only to receive a cold reply: “It does not meet the magazine’s style.”
After that, I experienced constant (不断的) failure. But every time I wanted to give up, I’d think of my mother knitting (织) that scarf. Her eyesight was poor, yet she kept knitting, never saying “I can’t finish it.”
注意:1. 写作词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。

My Way to deal with the Used Clothes
When it comes to dealing with the used clothes, I have my own way. First, I sort them out: the clean and undamaged ones are donated to charity organizations to help those in need. For the worn-out pieces, I cut them into rags for cleaning tables or floors.
This method not only avoids waste but also spreads kindness. It helps me realize the value of reusing resources and strengthens my sense of environmental protection. I think it’s a simple but meaningful way to live a green life.
第二节(满分25分)
【67题答案】
【答案】One possible version:
I started focusing on my words instead of rushing for a result. I threw away the strict writing patterns I had copied from story magazines and started to write what I truly felt. I wrote down the small but warm things in my life: how the nurse softly patted my shoulder before my treatment, the sweet taste of the cake my mother brought each weekend, and even the warm light coming through the thick curtains and falling on my desk. I revised and revised, submitted and submitted. I lost count of how many sheets of paper I crumpled up and how many times I was rejected.
One morning, an unexpected email appeared in my mailbox. It was from a publishing house, saying they were deeply touched by my writing and that they wanted to publish my story. When I told my mother the news, she held my hand tight, her eyes glistening with tears. On the same day, the doctor said my condition was improving steadily. That day, I realized that life doesn’t always let us run and that as long as we keep walking slowly with hope in our hearts, the gray sky will eventually clear up. Those once painful days have become the most precious threads in my life, weaving a story of resilience and joy that I’ ll always hold close.

The first day with a new class can be frightening. Let's talk about three things you can do with a new class. First, break the ice. Ice breaking games are a good way to help a new group come together. They should allow everyone to take part without feeling awkward. For example, one idea is what's in your school bag. Ask students to empty their schoolbags to find an object that is important to them. Let the group guess why the object is important before the owner explains its meaning. Second, the first day is also perfect for you to understand what your students expect to do. Lastly, IT is important to establish class rules. On the first day, you should get students to debate some rules for the class. This gives them some responsibility and makes them more likely to follow the rules. Thank you for joining us in the teacher's room, and we hope these tips can help make your first day with a new class a success.
