Fire extinguishers are important safety devices (设备) in schools, homes, and public buildings. Knowing how to use them properly can help prevent (阻止) small fires from becoming dangerous.
There are different types of fire extinguishers for different kinds of fires. The most common type is the ABC dry chemical extinguisher, which works on most small fires.
When you see a small fire, first remember the word PASS:
P—Pull the safety pin at the top
A—Aim (瞄准) the hose at the bottom of the fire
S—Squeeze (压) the handle slowly
S—Sweep from side to side
Always keep your back to the exit. This way, you can leave fast if the fire grows. Make sure you stand about 2—3 meters from the fire. If the fire doesn’t go out immediately, leave the area and call the firefighters at 119.
After use, even for just a second, the extinguisher must be refilled. Check the pressure gauge monthly to make sure it’s ready for dangerous situations. You can also teach your family members how to use them.
21. What type of fire extinguisher works on most small fires?
A. Water fire extinguisher. B. The CO2 fire extinguisher.
C. The kitchen fire extinguisher. D. The ABC dry chemical extinguisher.
22. Which picture shows the first “S” in “PASS”?
A. B.
C. D.
23. What should you do if the fire doesn’t go out?
A. Leave and call 119. B. Move closer to the fire.
C. Find another extinguisher. D. Keep trying until it goes out.

In 1960, a young English woman named Jane Goodall traveled to the forests of Africa to study chimps (黑猩猩). At that time, it was unusual for a woman to work in the wild, but Jane didn’t give up. She spent months patiently watching the chimps, slowly winning their trust.
Through her years of study, Jane made several important discoveries. She found that chimps use tools, like using sticks to get termites (白蚁) from their nests (巢穴). This changed how scientists understand animals. She also learned that chimps have close family relationships and different personalities (个性), just like humans.
Jane’s work taught the world to respect and protect wildlife. Later, she started the Roots & Shoots program to encourage young people around the world to care for the environment. “Every single person can make a difference,” she often said. Though over 80 years old, Jane still traveled around the world, spreading her belief of hope and protecting nature. Dr. Goodall passed away on October 1, 2025, but her spirit will live on forever through the millions of people she encouraged.
24. Where did Jane Goodall study chimps?
A. In English zoos. B. In African forests. C. In American forests. D. In Asian mountains.
25. What did Jane discover about chimps?
A. They use tools to get food. B. They build houses to live in.

A. To describe Africa’s wild animals. B. To show the way to study chimps.
C. To teach young people about wild animals. D. To encourage young people to protect nature.
27. What is Jane’s idea according to the passage?
A. Animals should live in zoos. B. Only scientists can protect nature.
C. Every person can help the world. D. Studying animals is difficult work.

On November 4, 2025, an unexpected thing happened to China’s Shenzhou-20 spaceship before it went back to Earth. The astronaut found a small crack (裂痕) on its window. This meant it was not safe for the three astronauts to return to Earth in it. They had to stay in the space station and wait for help.
On November 10, 2025, the project officially started its emergency (应急的) plan and actions. It was decided that the Shenzhou-20 astronauts would return by taking the Shenzhou-21 spaceship, which was sent into space on October 31. Scientists and engineers worked quickly. They spent only nine days checking all the information and making sure the new plan was safe. On November 14, 2025, the return part of the Shenzhou-21 spaceship successfully landed back on Earth.
This success shows the high ability of China’s space technology. China always has another spaceship ready if there is a problem. This“always ready” plan, along with smart scientists and strong technology, made the fast rescue (救援) possible. While it took Russia two months and the USA nine months to solve similar problems before, China did it in just nine days.
People around the world were surprised and praised China’s speed. This event not only brought the astronauts home but also gave China more confidence to explore farther places like the moon and Mars in the future. This is a big step not only for China, but also for the whole world.
28. What happened to the Shenzhou-20 spaceship?
A. It had no power left. B. It lost its way in space.
C. Its window got a crack. D. It ran out of food and water.
29 How did China solve the problem?
①Repaired the window in space. ②Asked other countries for help.
③Checked everything quickly in nine days. ④Moved astronauts to Shenzhou-21 spaceship.
A. ③④ B. ②④ C. ①② D. ①③
30. What was the most important reason for the fast rescue according to the passage?
A. The astronauts knew how to fix the spaceship.
B. The problem with Shenzhou-20 was very small.
C. Other countries helped China with their technology.
D. China had another spaceship ready and a strong team.
31. Why does the writer mention “This is a big step…” in the end?
A. Because this event helped find new things in space.
B. Because this event made space trips more interesting.
C. Because this event made other countries stop space work.
D. Because this event showed China’s power in space technology.
D
In China today, some people think chrysanthemums (菊花) are not good flowers. They connect them with sadness and death. This idea mainly comes from Western culture, where people often use chrysanthemums at funerals (葬礼).
But in fact, chrysanthemums have a long and beautiful history in Chinese culture. They are one of the “Four Gentlemen” in Chinese tradition—along with the plum blossom (梅花), the orchid (兰花), and the bamboo.
In ancient China, people loved chrysanthemums very much. The great poet Tao Yuanming from the Jin Dynasty loved chrysanthemums. He planted them around his house and wrote many poems about them. He saw chrysanthemums as a symbol of a simple and happy life.
Chinese people also believed that chrysanthemums could help people live longer. In the past, people drank chrysanthemum tea to keep healthy. They also used the flowers in medicine.
During the Double Ninth Festival (重阳节), people enjoyed the beauty of chrysanthemums and drank chrysanthemum wine.
Chrysanthemums come out in late autumn when most other flowers die. This shows their strong spirit and their ability to live through cold weather. That’s why ancient Chinese people saw them as a symbol of strength and long life.
Now, because Western culture influences us, some Chinese people treat this beautiful flower in a wrong way. We should remember our own culture and understand the true meaning of chrysanthemums.
These differences show how the same flower can have different meanings in different cultures. Learning about this helps us understand not only the flower itself, but also the history and culture behind it. It also teaches us to think carefully—not to believe what we hear easily, but to learn and understand by ourselves.
32. Why do some Chinese dislike chrysanthemums now?
A. They think chrysanthemums smell bad. B. They think chrysanthemums aren’t beautiful.
C. They connect chrysanthemums with sad things. D. They find it hard to grow chrysanthemums well.
33. What did chrysanthemums mean in ancient China?
A. A plant for food and clothing. B. A symbol of long and happy life.
C. A gift for weddings and parties. D. A sign of sadness and bad luck.
34. How does the writer explain the importance of chrysanthemums?
A. By listing scientific facts. B. By telling a personal story.
C. By using numbers and time. D. By comparing different cultures.
35. What should we do when we see different cultural views?
A. Refuse all new ideas. B. Believe what most people say.
C. Learn and think by ourselves. D. Only follow our own culture.

Emotions (情绪) play an important role in our daily life. Have you ever thought about why you feel happy after doing well on a test, or feel angry when someone cuts in line? These feelings affect how we think and what we do every day.
Our emotions mainly come from our thoughts. Interestingly, different thoughts about the same situation can lead to completely different feelings. Sometimes, our brains create emotions without us even realizing it, just like how we jump when hearing a sudden loud noise.
When an emotion appears, three changes happen. First, our bodies change—hearts beat faster when scared, tears come when sad, and smiles appear when happy. Second, our minds change—sadness brings sad memories while happiness brings happy memories to mind. Third, emotions make you take action. Anger may make us want to shout, and fear makes us want to run.
Sometimes emotions can be confusing (疑惑) because some body signals look the same but they come from different feelings. For example, both anger and fear can make our hearts beat fast. To better understand our feelings, we need to notice our thoughts, body reactions (反应), and the things we would like to do.
Learning to manage emotions is very useful. When feeling strong emotions, try to “name” them by saying “I’m feeling angry” or “This is fear”. Naming emotions makes them easier to handle (应付). Remember that all emotions are normal and they help us understand ourselves better.
Emotions come from thoughts and affect daily life. They bring three changes —body changes, ____50____ and behavioral reactions. Sometimes ____51____ can make emotions confusing. To understand our feelings, we need to notice our thoughts, body reactions and ____52____. Naming our emotions makes emotions easier to manage.
