Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis have been able to run on open roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen, carrying passengers to their destinations (目的地) safely every day.
Why do we develop self-driving cars? Self-driving cars have many advantages. They use advanced cameras and sensors to catch images of the things around them and make better use of road space. This means fewer crowded roads and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily and independently.
According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are hurt in accidents. Self-driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money on traffic management. The main cause of car accidents is human error. By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.
But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected happens on the road, such as a sudden animal crossing, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver can. It would be hard for self-driving cars to see the lines on the road during bad weather conditions like heavy snow. It might lead to an accident.
It’s clear that there is a lot of work to do to make self-driving cars a common sight on our roads. And China is taking the lead in making this exciting future come true.
4. What does the word “sensors” probably mean in Paragraph 2?
A. Engines that make cars run fast.

C. Small tools that collect information.
D. Seats that make passengers comfortable.
5 Why can self-driving cars reduce road accidents greatly?

D. They don’t make mistakes caused by human carelessness.
6. What is one of the problems of self-driving cars?
A. They need special roads to run on.
B. They can’t carry more than two passengers.
C. They are too expensive for most people to buy.
D. They can’t respond quickly to sudden road events.
7. The passage mainly tells us ________.
A. self-driving cars bring convenience and problems
B. what we should do to use self-driving cars safely
C. how self-driving cars work and how to use them well
D. why self-driving cars are better than human-driven cars

Do you know what family instructions are? They are common beliefs that family members follow. In ancient China, people passed down their family instructions from generation to generation, hoping to guide their descendants (后代) to be kind, responsible and respectful.
Some schools in Zhejiang are encouraging students to learn more about their own family instructions, as they believe this helps young people connect with traditional culture and shape good character. At Hangzhou Gongyi Middle School and Hangzhou Xuejun High School, it was part of the students’ winter vacation homework to learn about their family instructions.
Meng Yaohan, 16, from Hangzhou Xuejun High School, looked at her family instructions. One of them is “Don’t take the wrong way”, a piece of advice that has been passed down for 100 years. Her father told her how her grandfather stuck to his “right way” to become an engineer. “It encouraged me to pursue (追求) what I love,” she said.
Shen Duanjie, 14, from Hangzhou Gongyi Middle School, has benefited a lot from his family’s instructions—“democratic (民主)” and “equal”. In his own words, they have helped him get along with his parents smoothly and express his ideas bravely.
The schools have also published books about two classic collections of family instructions—The Family Instructions of Zhu Xi and The Family Instructions of Yan Clan. The books include dialogues and pictures drawn by students, making the ancient wisdom easier to understand.
Gong Zhenyue,14, drew pictures for one of the instructions in The Family Instructions of Yan Clan. She was impressed by the instruction, which says that parents should not only love their children, but also educate them. “It made me understand my parents’ strictness with me,” she said. She made it her own family instruction and tries to do better in both study and life.

Most of us know what it’s like to get presents from friends. Whether it’s for a birthday or other celebrations, it’s hard to beat the excitement of opening a box to find something that’s unexpected and fits you well. Now, imagine if you could get the same feeling when you go shopping for yourself. That’s the feeling that mystery boxes hope to give you.
Mystery boxes are not a new idea—people did this in stores in Japan in the early 20th century. They sell a group of different products more cheaply than normal. The key thing is that customers don’t know what’s in the box before they buy. All kinds of mystery boxes are available: fashion boxes, food boxes, beauty boxes and so on.
The pleasant surprise is not the only amazing thing about mystery boxes. They also allow people to try new things. Seasonal vegetable boxes might lead people to learn to cook new meals. They can also help people to save money—as these products are often far more expensive than when they are in the mystery boxes. For sellers the benefit (收益) is clear. It allows them to sell their unwanted products in their stores. The British fashion mystery box boss Mario Maher explains how mystery boxes can help to make the waste less. If some of these products are not sold in the mystery boxes, they will probably be thrown away.
However, there is a downside to mystery boxes when you buy them. You don’t know what you’ll get! It may be that the goods inside are not to your taste, and there is also the risk for cheats to sell products in the mystery box more expensively.
So, are mystery boxes a fun way of making waste less and making shopping more exciting? Or are they just a way to trick people and make them disappointed? It’s something to think about!
12. What is mentioned about mystery boxes in Paragraph 2?
A The start of mystery boxes. B. The changes of mystery boxes.
C. The bad things of mystery boxes. D. The good things of mystery boxes.
13. What does the word “downside” in Paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Price B. Rule C. Advantage D. Disadvantage
14. Which of the following is a benefit of mystery boxes according to the passage?

根据“This feeling ... as déjà vu”可知,主语“This feeling”与谓语动词“know”构成被动关系,描述客观事实,应用一般现在时。 故填is known。
根据“People ... this fascinating question for over a century”可知,时间状语“for over a century”表示从过去持续到现在的一段时间,强调动作的持续性。 故填have studied。
根据“there are now a number of interesting ... about déjà vu.”

根据“...I have a lot of power, it doesn’t make me happy.” 故填Although/Though。
