Plogging is the perfect way to do some exercise while doing good for the planet. It is one of the latest fitness trends (趋势), but it stands out from the rest because it’s good for your health and the environment. It is simple to do jogging while picking up litter around. It’s a good idea for your community to get people active and together.
Plogging is very new, beginning in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2016, when Swedish athlete Erik Ahlström started picking up litter while out jogging. Ahlström became frustrated with how much litter he saw everywhere on his way to work, so he decided to pick it up. Then the city organized a “Plogga”, which mixes jogging or “jogga” in Swedish with “plocka upp”, which means to pick up. It’s a popular movement that quickly became successful.
Since 2016, millions of people have gone plogging, which shows a positive change for wellness and the environment. Over 100 countries are now taking part in this interesting and helpful fitness trend, and plogging events have attracted over 3 million people. It makes sense this trend has taken off with social media and word-of-mouth movements and with environmental sustainability (可持续性) and plastic pollution being such important hot topics in recent years.
Cleaner environment makes people more encouraged to exercise outside. Along with a cleaner environment, plogging gives us all the advantages of jogging, such as improving fitness and lowering blood pressure. In one study, researchers said that plogging and jogging are similar in terms of energy use, and plogging could help exercising burn fat. When you go plogging, the jogging part is like a fun workout for your heart, and all the moves you do to pick up litter work different muscles (肌肉) in your body. Carrying a bag of litter could also help you build arm muscle over time. Plogging can cheer you up, and you’ll feel a sense of success and community.
24.What makes plogging different from other fitness trends?
A.It is environmentally friendly. B.It is a group activity.
C.It is supported by the government. D.It helps burn fat faster.
25.What does the underlined word “frustrated” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A.Calm. B.Regretful. C.Upset. D.Awkward.
26.Why has plogging spread so quickly around the world?
A.Famous athletes joined the trend first.
B.It is included in some international events.
C.It has solved plastic pollution problems in Sweden.
D.Modern communication and public focus helped.
27.What does the last paragraph mainly talk about?
A.Effects of environment on workout. B.Reasons why people should try plogging.
C.Main steps to start a plogging activity. D.Ways to improve community relationship.

On a street in Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang Province, many people turned to the foreigner in surprise as he started speaking fluently and rapidly — he was practicing local Chinese tongue twisters (绕口令), with each repetition getting louder and louder.
It was a common experience with Musab Al Rudaisat, 30, an Arab learner of Chinese cross-talk or xiangsheng, the traditional comedic act that is performed as a dialogue between two performers or as a solo monologue (单口).
Al Rudaisat grew up in Jordan and got his PhD in medicine at Zhejiang University in Hangzhou. He came to China to pursue his studies in 2011 and has spent most of his time in the country since. Al Rudaisat has been one of the leading comedians at the city’s Kailehui Cross-talk Club for the past five years.
The club performs traditional cross-talk comedy shows at many different locations throughout the city; many people from the younger generation, most comedians in their 30s, participate in the club, which has been dedicated to preserving, innovating and spreading the art and craft of Chinese cross-talk in southern provinces.
Al Rudaisat watched countless Chinese reality shows to practice his Mandarin (普通话) skills. “My interest in learning Chinese began when I was still in Jordan,” Al Rudaisat says. When he arrived in China for his studies, he soon began to practice his Chinese-speaking skills whenever he had the chance.
He practiced Chinese everywhere — on the streets and on the shores of his campus lake. He was often so focused on practicing his Chinese pronunciations that he did not realize how loudly he spoke.
“It is very, very difficult to master Chinese, but my love of uncovering the dense and abundant cultural aspect of China is endless, and mastering the Chinese language has been the best gateway for me to achieve such a goal,” he said.
28.Why were many people on the street surprised at Al Rudaisat?

D.He practiced Chinese tongue twisters on the street.
29.What does the underlined word “participate” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A.Arrive. B.Bring. C.Join. D.Break.

B.He wants to leave China for his homeland soon.
C.He is getting on badly with his Chinese friends.
D.He is deep in Chinese culture and language.
31.How does he want to achieve his goal of exploring Chinese culture?
A.By mastering the Chinese language.
B.By practicing his Chinese pronunciation.
C.By learning Chinese culture and language.
D.By performing Chinese tongue twisters on streets.

We were halfway through our cyclone preparation. This is the fourth natural disaster I’ve experienced in the last eight years. One-in-100-year floods (2017), serious bushfires (2019), one-in-1,000-year floods (2022) and now Cyclone Alfred. Cyclones are a new threat. I’ve lived in my homeplace, in northern New South Wales, for almost 50 years and we’ve never had a cyclone cross land in our area. We were in uncharted waters.
I live in a forest my parents planted. The house is surrounded by trees. Usually, this is a good thing, but as the wind began to pick up, it was hard not to be frightened.
As I was busy in trying to get things in order, I happened to see a baby bird, feathered, but not yet flying. It was tiny, and bright green. I’d never seen the like. I captured it, put it in a box and called our local wildlife hotline. The woman I spoke to agreed to meet me at a designated (指定的) handover spot. I jumped in the car and drove. We parked back to back, with the wind blowing wildly all around us, and I got out to hand her the box. “I’d love to chat,” she said, taking the box, “but I better get back.” I nodded. The rain was beginning to spin around us.
When I was back at home, the sound of the wind was rising. My son, who lives in the next big town, invited me to his home. At my son’s house, the waiting began. Alfred didn’t cross land until Saturday morning. The night of the crossing was wild and it was strange to be so far from the trees. Were they upturned in the night? But the forest still stood. The power had gone out days before. We’d already lost all the food in our fridge. With no power, we had no water, which made life difficult. The long wait for power restoration began. Longer, it seemed, than the wait for Alfred. We are very tired.
At home, I checked my landline. There was a message from the wildlife carers saying my baby bird was a rose-crowned fruit dove, quite rare. It would be raised to adulthood and set free. I could feel my heartbeat in my chest. One tiny, wild life.
Four natural disasters in eight years. What is this new world my grandbabies are inheriting? We knew it was coming, but it’s already here.
32.What does the underlined phrase “in uncharted waters” in Paragraph 1 mean?
A.In a dangerous condition. B.In an unfamiliar situation.
C.In a place without maps. D.In a geographically remote area.
33.Why did the author meet the woman in the rain?
A.To deliver a baby bird for its safety.
B.To seek shelter from the cyclone.
C.To make wildlife protection plans.
D.To seek advice on handling the cyclone.
34.What troubled the author after the cyclone?
A.The destroyed house.
B.The loss of trees.
C.The safety of the bird.
D.The power failure.
35.What does the message in the last paragraph imply?
A.Disastrous events are growing.
B.The world is changing too fast.
C.Future generations are at a loss.
D.Human strength can overcome difficulties.
第2节 七选五(共5小题,每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Daniel Shore, chair of the Department of English at Georgetown University, says that his students have trouble staying focused on even a sonnet (十四行诗). A decade ago, Daniel’s classes had no problem taking part in complex discussions of Pride and Prejudice one week and Crime and Punishment the next. 36
37 But a majority of professors express similar experiences. Anthony, a historian, says his students arrive on campus with a narrower vocabulary and less understanding of language than they used to have. Jack Chen, a Chinese literature professor at the University of Virginia, finds his students less able to stick to a challenging text than they used to be.
Failing to complete a 14-line poem without giving in to distraction suggests one familiar explanation for the decline in reading ability: smartphones. Teenagers are constantly addicted to their devices. 38 After all, reading books, even for fun, can’t compete with the social media platforms where appealing videos and pictures draw viewers in.
Young adults appear to read fewer books in the classrooms as well. Educational measures emphasise informational text and standardised tests. There is no testing skill that can be related to reading ability. Can you sit down and read Tolstoy’s works? If a skill is not easily measured, instructors are not always pushed to teach it. 39 Some top private schools seem to be slower to shift away from reading complete volumes.
Deep reading stimulates valuable mental habits, including critical thinking and self-reflection, in ways that reading short passages does not. 40 They transport readers into the mind of someone who lived hundreds of years ago or a person who lived in a different culture.
A.No complete data exist on this trend.
B.These devices are fully functional with many advantages.
C.Besides, books can train the ability to understand people.
D.Now his students tell him that the reading load feels impossible.
E.But there is a comforting practice for this upsetting phenomenon.
F.This poses a big challenge to their picking up a book and diving in.
G.Therefore, it makes sense to encourage book reading among teenagers.

In different cultures, people have 66 (variety) ideas about friendship, and these ideas can sometimes lead to misunderstandings.
In the United States, friendship is often activity-based. Shared experiences, from playing sports to watching movies, are a fundamental (基本的) reason why people become friends. We have noticed that they seem to have many friends who belong to different social circles. Making friends is rather quick and easy for Americans, and the word “friend” is used quite 67 (wide).
However, in many Eastern cultures, such as China and Korea, building a true friendship 68 (take) more time and effort. Friendship is based on deep emotional bonds (纽带,联系) and 69 strong sense of duty. Once you become close friends, you are almost like family. Friends 70 (expect) to help each other in times of need, 71 is very important in Eastern cultures.
Another key distinction (区别) lies in communication. In “direct” cultures, honesty is highly valued and considered a characteristic of true friendship, even if the truth is 72 (comfortable). In “indirect” cultures, friends often try to avoid direct disagreement to keep good friendship. They believe that a true friend should understand their feelings 73 saying everything.
So, if you ever have a chance 74 (make) friends with someone from another culture, remember that there is no single “right” way. Being aware of these 75 (different) is the first step towards building a strong cross-cultural friendship.

Exercise offers numerous benefits: it strengthens cardiorespiratory function, and people who exercise regularly usually have a better immune system with a lower risk of illness. Besides, it benefits mental health by relieving stress, overcoming negative emotions, and even improving certain brain functions.
To avoid injuries while exercising, first, warm up adequately — do dynamic stretches like arm circles or leg swings for 5-10 minutes to activate muscles and increase flexibility. Second, stick to proper form; avoid overexertion and choose exercises suitable for your fitness level. Additionally, wear appropriate sportswear and shoes to protect joints. Following these tips can help you exercise safely.

1.【原文】W: Dale, what was your most unforgettable experience in New York?
M: It was visiting the Statue of Liberty. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience for me.
W: So what was the lowlight?
M: The weather.
2.【原文】W: I’m thinking of going bowling tonight. Are you interested in coming along? We can meet at my house and then go together.
M: Sorry, I’m planning on staying at home tonight to study for my science exam.
3.【原文】M: Did you hear about the volcano eruption? It’s all over the news.
W: I don’t watch TV. But I saw many relevant pictures and videos posted online. It’s frightening to think about the ruins and the impact on the people living nearby.
M: I hope the locals stay safe and that the rescue workers can manage the situation effectively.
4.【原文】M: I’ve learned so much about France, like its cities, food, and customs.
W: Yes. By living there for the past few months, you have learned a lot, especially its culture. But in order to get even better at speaking French, you need to expand your vocabulary.
5.【原文】W: Have you noticed that people here in Mexico stand very close together?
M: Yes. It’s the same in Peru too.
W: It’s the opposite in Britain. I was a little uncomfortable here at first. But after a few days, I’m getting used to it.
6-7.【原文】W: Why is it so hot these days?
M: The weather report says another typhoon is forming in the western Pacific and is moving towards the mainland.
W: That’s why it’s burning hot these days. By the way, will our city be hit by the typhoon?
M: I’m afraid so. It will hit our city on its way towards the mainland.
W: When will it arrive?
M: It is expected to arrive here tomorrow evening.
W: So we must be prepared for it.
M: Yes. The government has warned the fishermen not to go fishing and told all citizens not to stay out when the typhoon arrives.
8-9.【原文】W: Jim, I’ve got everything on the shopping list. Let’s check out. Grandpa might have arrived. We can’t keep him waiting outside our home. Hurry up.

W: Er…by the river? He won’t come to our house?

W: I was cooking some eggs. Suddenly the table began to move. The cups fell onto the ground and were broken. The light went out suddenly. I couldn’t help crying.
M: Did you go out at once?
W: No, I couldn’t find the way in the darkness, So I stayed in the bathroom.
13-16.【原文】W: Are you reading news on the Internet?
M: No. I was watching some videos, but now I’m reading about the Spanish Language and Culture Program.

M: Yes. Though I have learned the language for two years, I cannot speak it fluently. I think this is a good opportunity for me to improve my Spanish skills.
W: Where will the program take place?
M: In Valencia. And that’s another reason why I’m interested in the program. Valencia is one of Spain’s most historic towns with a beautiful coastline, a number of festivals, and the birthplace of some Spain’s most cherished foods.
