Passage4(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期末)
Hi, I’m Chief Editor of Youth Geographic. Have you noticed the sentence on the cover of our magazine saying “The best magazine for curious kids”? Curiosity is one of the best qualities you can have, in my opinion. Here in the office, we are always looking for things that make us say “I wonder...” I wonder how, what, why, who and if. When you look at something closely, you often discover amazing stories. On Page 10, researchers wonder why ants don’t have traffic jams. On Page 15, you’ll find stories about why giraffes have long necks. Scientists are listening to trees in whole new ways. Do you know “Wood Wide Web”? Scientists call this because it’s a bit like an internet for trees. You will find more on Page 30. Now I would like you to turn to Page 1. Scientists say it’s better to leave deadwood where it is. Strange? You may wonder...
Youth Geographic June 2025 1
What happens when a tree dies and falls in a forest? People often think deadwood is bad because it attracts insects or animals that hurt living trees. However, recent studies suggest that this risk is low and that deadwood plays a key role in nature.Scientists say that dead trees provide homes for fungi (真菌), bacteria (细菌) and insects. As they break down the trees, nutrients (营养物质) are returned to the soil, which helps new plants grow. During this process, the insects also become food for other animals like birds and bats. What’s more, deadwood can help fight climate change by locking some carbon (碳) in the ground for over a century.
However, deadwood is becoming less common all over the world now. Many forests have been turned into tree farms where trees are cut down before they die in a natural way. Some people also move away deadwood to lower the risk of fires or burn it in factories.
Scientists believe it is better to leave deadwood where it is.
16.Who is the magazine Youth Geographic mainly for?
A.Adults who will travel with kids. B.Adults who tell stories to kids.
C.Kids who wish to discover nature. D.Kids who would like to keep fit.
17.What does the passage on Page 30 make people believe?
A.Trees are ants’ ideal living place. B.Trees can communicate with each other.
C.Trees provide giraffes with food. D.Trees can protect themselves wisely.
18.What conclusion do recent studies reach about deadwood?
A.It should be left where it is. B.It turns forests into tree farms.
C.It locks carbon for over a century. D.It helps trees die in a natural way.

Dear Susan,
Last Sunday, I made dinner by myself. I thought oil splash noodles (油泼面) were easy to make. So I decided to have a try. They really tasted delicious. I would like to tell you how to make them.
First, cook the noodles. Boil some water in a pot. Put the noodles in the pot and cook for 3-5 minutes. When they’re soft, drain the water and put the noodles in a big bowl.
Next, add seasonings. Put the green onions, garlic, chili powder, and some salt on top of the hot noodles. Then pour the soy sauce (酱油) over them.
Then, pour hot oil. This is the key step! Heat the cooking oil in a small pan until it gets hot. Carefully pour the hot oil over the seasonings! The oil will make the seasonings smell amazing.
Finally, mix and eat. Stir everything together quickly. Now your oil-splashed noodles are ready! They taste hot, delicious, and just right.
It takes 10–15 minutes to make a bowl of oil-splashed noodles. Why not give it a try? ▲

My exchange trip to China felt like a fantasy movie. I had prepared by reading online about trips to China before, yet my experience still surprised me.
My first big surprise happened in Suzhou, our first host city. I had heard it called the “Venice (威尼斯) of the East” and imagined a small town with quiet canals (运河). As soon as I stepped out of the railway station, I was shocked. Suzhou was so huge and modern! Our school stood near ancient canals, where I saw tall glass buildings next to old wooden boats. It felt strange to see both a “village” and a “city” in one place. This contrast (对比) made us look at the city with fresh eyes.
Later, we saw an even stronger contrast in Beijing. My host family lived near the hutongs. These narrow alleys were full of traditional life. Just a short walk away, modern skyscrapers rose into the sky. People say many hutongs are disappearing each year. How lucky we were to visit them!
After these surprises, of course, there were challenges. The biggest one was the language barrier. Simple words like “homework” or “bus stop” were sometimes hard to communicate. Translation apps became my best friends. They helped most of the time, though sometimes the results were funny.
Still, I met kindness everywhere. A stranger helped me find my way during a rainy day at the Summer Palace. A student at a cafe in Beijing spoke English so well that I almost forgot I was abroad. These moments showed me how friendly Chinese people were.
In the end, this exchange trip was not just about studying; it was also about understanding a culture and making friends. I enjoyed every moment and truly can’t wait to visit China again!

Passage19(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期末)
Finding and Losing Troy
Was Troy a real place or just a story? For years, many people thought it was just a myth (神话). But a German named Heinrich Schliemann believed it was real. His strong belief helped him make some very important discoveries.
As a boy, Schliemann loved reading. His favorite book was The Iliad, a book about the great war at Troy. The brave heroes and strong walls in the story interested him deeply. He promised himself that one day he would find the lost city of Troy.
However, life first took him in a different direction. He became a successful businessman, traveled to many different places around the world, learned several languages, and made a lot of money.
In his late forties, he finally had enough money to follow his childhood dream. He traveled through Greece and Turkey to search for Troy. Hisarlik, an ancient Turkish site, caught his eye.
In 1871, he started digging at Hisarlik with a team of local workers. He soon became impatient with the slow work. To dig faster, he used dynamite. This sped up the excavation (挖掘) but also caused serious damage to the site.
Piece by piece, they uncovered weapons (武器), pottery (陶器) and many other ancient objects. These findings showed that Hisarlik had a history of over 5,000 years. It had been rebuilt many times. Schliemann believed one of these lost cities was Troy.

Passage21(25-26八年级上·广东揭阳·期末)
These days, drones (无人机), also called UAVs, aren’t just cool high-tech tools for taking pictures. In the countryside, they’re becoming more and more important. They’re bringing new ways to get work done and making big changes in farming and other country jobs.
One big use of them is in farming. Farmers can use drones to look over their fields. These drones have special cameras. They can fly up high and take pictures of the crops. Then, by looking at these pictures, farmers can tell if their crops have enough water, sunlight, or food. Instead of walking around the whole big field to check, they can use a drone to look at everything fast. Zigui is a county in Yichang City, Hubei Province. Older farmers there used to carry oranges on their backs. It was hard work. Few young people are willing to do it. But now a farmer can use a drone to carry 50 kilograms per trip. It crosses 200 meters in just one minute, while a person would take 30 minutes.
▲ . They can watch how the animals move and if they’re healthy. In big pastures, it’s really hard for farmers to watch all the animals all the time. Drones can easily get to faraway and hard-to-reach places. This helps keep everything in the countryside working well, so people’s lives and work can go on smoothly.
However, using drones in the countryside isn’t always easy. For example, there are strict regulations on drone flights in many places. Farmers have to make sure they fly their drones the right way. Also, buying a good drone and all the things that go with it can be expensive for some farmers. But as technology gets better and the market gets more grown-up, these problems will probably get solved little by little.
97.How can farmers tell if their crops have problems according to the passage?
A.By walking around the field to check. B.By listening to the sound of the crops.
C.By looking at the pictures taken by drones. D.By asking experts for advice.
98.Why does the writer mention the example of Zigui county?
A.To show how drones can help with heavy lifting and transportation.
B.To explain why young people are not interested in farming.
C.To describe the traditional way of carrying oranges.
D.To introduce the beautiful scenery of Yichang City.
99.Which of the following can be put in “ ▲ ”?
A.Drones fly faster than farm animals. B.Drones also help take care of farm animals.
C.Drones are perfect for farming. D.Drones will be used in more fields.
100.What does the underlined word “regulations” probably mean?
A.Problems. B.Ways. C.Advantages. D.Rules.
101.Which would be the best title for the passage?
A.Drones: Cool High-Tech Tools B.Drones: Problems and Solutions
C.Drones: Making Big Changes in the Countryside D.Drones: A New Way of Taking Pictures

Passage22(25-26八年级上·广东揭阳·期末)
The World Health Organization (WHO) has recently warned about a disease called Chikungunya (基孔肯雅热). It is spreading fast, so it may become a big global problem.
Chikungunya is spread by mosquitoes (蚊子). It doesn’t pass from person to person. Here’s how people get infected (感染). At first, an infected mosquito bites you. Then the Chikungunya virus enters your body. After 3 to 7 days, you start feeling sick. A high fever (over 39℃) comes first. Soon after, you may have a headache and feel tired, as your body fights the virus. Later, red rashes (皮疹) may appear, and you could have bad joint (关节) pain—especially in the hands and feet-making it hard to move. These problems can last weeks or even months. Most people recover, but it can be serious for older people or those who are already ill.
The main mosquito that spreads Chikungunya is the tiger mosquito. It likes warm weather and water. As the earth gets warmer, this type of mosquito moves to more places. Lately, there are many cases on Indian Ocean islands, and parts of Asia and Africa. Travelers may bring it to new areas like Europe.
The best way to stay safe is to stop mosquitoes from biting you. Here’s what you can do:
·Apply mosquito repellent (驱蚊液) to your skin and clothes.
·Wear long shirts and pants, especially in the morning and evening. Light-colored clothes help, too!

Mangroves (红树林) are very special forests. They grow along the coastlines (海岸线). They look like tall green walls rising from the sea. Although they might seem like just trees, they do many important jobs for nature.
First, mangroves play a very important role. They protect coasts from strong winds and big floods, keeping homes and beaches safe. Their roots (根) are like little cities for small animals. Small fish swim around them and birds build their homes there. What’s more, these trees are great cleaners. They take out the bad things in the seawater, making the sea cleaner and healthier. In a word, mangroves are not only beautiful but also very useful. We should protect them well.

Many mangrove forests are getting smaller and many small animals in the sea are losing their homes. It’s time for us to take action.
The good news is that more and more people are waking up to their importance. Volunteers (志愿者) plant new mangrove trees, and scientists study how to protect them better. We can help, too. Passage27(25-26八年级上·山东济南·期末)
Imagine ordering your favourite burger and having it fly to your door. Well, that’s exactly what’s happening on an island in Sweden
A company from Norway, Aviant, is testing a new service: sending food by drone (无人机). The drones bring hot, fresh hamburgers from a fast-food restaurant to people’s homes on Värmdö island. This island is near Stockholm, the capital of Sweden, but it is not easy to get to quickly. Especially in the long winter months, when it gets very cold and the sea freezes, the journey becomes even more challenging. You can drive or take a boat, but you can’t cycle or walk there. And tens of thousands of people live there, with tens of thousands more coming to stay for the summer.
“As you can see on the map, there are 87,000 people who cannot get a home delivery (投递) service,” said an Aviant official. “They live in areas far from the city centre and would like to order takeaway (外卖) food, but they have no choice.”
Right now, this drone service is being tested. They deliver only about 10 meals a week. They can fly for 10 minutes and travel about 10 kilometers. People are excited to see drones bringing their food. It’s like a flying robot delivering dinner!
The testing took three years. At first, the food arrived cold or wet! But now, even in the cold weather of Sweden and Norway, the food stays warm when it arrives.
Aviant plans to expand the service next to an area in Norway. If everything goes well, they hope to use drones to deliver food in more places across Northern Europe, and maybe even in North America one day.
So, could your next meal come from the sky? For some people, that future is already here!
126.Why did Aviant test its drones on Värmdö island?
A.There are no fast-food restaurants nearby. B.The people there like to order food online.
C.Many homes there can’t get food delivery. D.It is far from the city and has very few people.
127.What problem did the drones have at first?
A.They flew too high. B.The food arrived cold or wet.
C.They cost too much money. D.Heat stopped them from flying.
128.How many meals do the drones deliver each week now?
A.About 10. B.About 87. C.About 1,000. D.About 10,000.
129.What is Aviant’s next plan if the test keeps going well?
A.Sell drones to American schools. B.Build new restaurants on Värmdö.
C.Stop using drones in delivering food. D.Bring the service to a place in Norway.
130.What may be the best title for the text?
A.Burgers by Drone B.Driving in Winter

When ants have others around, they work harder! Scientists in Australia watched ants that make homes with leaves. They used fake (假的) leaves with force sensors (传感器) to see how strong the ants are when pulling leaves. After checking over 30,000 ants, they found that ants pulled really hard—103 times their body weight—when other ants were around. But when alone, they only pulled 60 times their weight.
·Medical award
Do you know what intermittent fasting (轻断食) is? It’s when you eat for only eight hours a day and don’t eat for the other 16 hours. Many people do it to lose weight. But scientists at Westlake University in China found that in mice, this kind of fasting can make special cells (细胞) in hair roots die. In other words, it will cause hair loss.
·Psychology (心理学) award
Guessing which hand is hiding a coin (硬币) is a very popular magical trick. If you can’t guess right, the problem might be your hands. Scientists in Singapore asked magicians to do this trick for jays (松鸦). The jays only guessed wrong 30 percent of the time, while humans guessed wrong 75 percent. Why? Passage29(25-26八年级上·陕西榆林·期末)
In our daily lives, we talk with many people. Being polite is not just a good habit; it’s a key to making communication more pleasant. English has special ways to show respect, especially when we ask for help or permission (许可).
When we ask someone to do something, how we ask makes a big difference. Instead of a direct order like “Sweep the floor”, a polite request (请求) is better. Using “Could you please ...?” works well. “Could” sounds softer than “can”, which shows more respect. Adding “please” makes it even friendlier.
When we want permission, the words we choose are also important. “Can ...?” is common with friends, but “Could I...?” is more polite. Asking a friend, “Can I borrow your book?” is fine. But asking a teacher, “Could I ask a question?” shows respect for their role.
Politeness is also two-way. When you cannot help someone, just saying “No” can sound impolite. It’s better to give a short reason. For example, you could say, “I’m sorry, but I have to finish my homework first.” This shows you respect their request, even if you can’t agree.
Using these polite words is an easy way to build better relationships.
136.What does the writer think about being polite?
A.It is helpful for better communication. B.It is hard to learn in a short time.
C.It is only useful when talking to teachers. D.It means always saying “yes” to others.
137.Which is the politest way to ask someone to sweep the floor, according to the passage?
A.Sweep the floor now! B.Can you sweep the floor?
C.Could you please sweep the floor? D.I want you to sweep the floor.
138.The writer mainly explains his points by __________.
A.sharing jokes B.giving examples
C.using numbers D.comparing test results
139.What is the best title for this passage?
A.How to Say “No” Politely B.Ways to Talk to Teachers
C.Why We Need Good Habits D.Polite Ways to Communicate in English
【答案】136.A 137.C 138.B 139.D
【导语】本文主要介绍了英语中礼貌沟通的重要性和具体表达方式,说明了礼貌用语在请求、获得许可和拒绝他人时的应用,以帮助人们建立更好的人际关系。

137.细节理解题。根据“Instead of a direct order like “Sweep the floor”, a polite request is better. Using ‘Could you please ...?’ works well.”可知,最礼貌的请求方式是“Could you please sweep the floor?”。故选C。
138.推理判断题。文中通过“Could you please ...?”、“Can I borrow your book?”、“I’m sorry, but I have to finish my homework first.”
Passage30(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期末)
Saturn (土星) is famous for its beautiful rings around it. Now, it’s getting attention for being even more amazing. Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn, bringing the planet’s total to 274. A moon is any naturally formed object that moves around a planet. Moons come in different shapes and sizes.
Scientists discovered the moons with a powerful telescope, which is used to study stars and planets in great detail. Scientists took many photos of areas in space and piled them on top of each other to make the moons appear bright enough to discover.
Most of Saturn’s new moons are small objects, just one or two miles wide—quite different from Earth’s Moon, which is a 2,159-mile-wide ball. These space rocks are in unusual orbits (轨道) too. They go around Saturn in the opposite direction to its own movement. Between 6.5 million and 18 million miles away from the ringed planet, the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.
Why does Saturn have so many moons while Earth only has one? According to scientists, several billion years ago, the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed into each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.
The new moons were first discovered in 2023 by a team of scientists and were recently confirmed by the International Astronomical Union (IAU). Saturn now is the planet with the most moons—Jupiter is far behind with 95. However, the team leader believes this might be the limit for moon discovery. “I don’t think Jupiter will ever catch up,” he said. “With present technology, I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done,” he added.
140.What do we know about the new discovery?
A.Newly found moons look the same. B.Scientists found new moons by accident.
C.Saturn’s rings attract many scientists. D.128 new moons were found around Saturn.
141.What does the underlined phrase “the ringed planet” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Earth. B.Saturn. C.Moon. D.Titan.
142.What led to the large number of Saturn’s moons?
A.The size of the planet. B.The weights of the moons.
C.The orbit of the planet. D.The crashes of the captured rocks and ice.
143.What can we learn from the team leader’s words in the last paragraph?
A.Jupiter will soon catch up with Saturn. B.Saturn’s new moons might support life.
C.He is satisfied with their moon discovery. D.The IAU presented a medal to his team.
根据第一段“Scientists have discovered 128 new moons around Saturn...”可知,这次新发现是发现了土星的128颗新卫星。故选D。
141.词句猜测题。根据第三段“...the newly discovered moons are also further away than Saturn’s biggest moon, Titan.”可知,新发现的卫星距离“这个有环的行星”比土星最大的卫星土卫六还要远。结合前文可知,土星是以其环而闻名的行星。因此,“the ringed planet”指代的是土星。故选B。
142.细节理解题。根据第四段“...several billion years ago, the giant planet’s gravity attracted some rocks and ice. Over time, some of them crashed into each other, breaking into smaller pieces or coming together to create many small moons.”可知,导致土星卫星数量众多的原因是卫星(或天体)之间的碰撞和聚合。故选D。
143.推理判断题。根据最后一段团队负责人的话“I don’t think we can do better than what has already been done”可知,他认为以现有技术无法超越已取得的成果,这表明他对目前的发现成果感到满意。故选C。

Then he said, “I am going to give this ¥100 to one of you, but first, let me do this.” He then made the bill into a ball. Then he said, “Who wants it now?” Hands went back into the air.

During the last years of the Warring States period (战国时期) , the State of Qin wanted to take control of Chu. At first, a young Qin general won several fights and took a few small towns. But later, his soldiers were caught in an ambush (伏击), and he had to run away. After this failure, the ruler of Qin decided to choose a more experienced general— Wang Jian.
Wang Jian led a large army to the border (边境). Instead of attacking at once, he set up simple camps and ordered his soldiers to eat well, sleep well and keep training every day. They built low walls and stayed watchful, but made no move to fight.
The Chu soldiers, on the other hand, had to stay ready day and night because they were worried about a sudden attack. As days turned into months, they grew tired and less careful. Over time, they began to believe that their enemy only wanted to protect itself and would not attack.

Passage18(25-26八年级上·广东广州·期末)

A.Homework. B.Bus stop.

B.China is too modern and has no traditional places left.
C.Using a translation app is always perfect and easy.
D.Everyone in China speaks English very fluently.
85.If another exchange student is going to China, what might the writer suggest based on the passage?
A.Only visit big modern cities like Shanghai.
B.Be prepared for both surprises and challenges.
C.Avoid using translation apps because they are not helpful.
D.Stay only with people who speak perfect English.
86.Which of the following is the best title of the passage?

说明文

Passage24(25-26八年级上·河北张家口·期末)
But now, mangrove forests are in great danger. People cut them down to build houses or start farms. Human activities create lots of rubbish and wastewater. This is also harmful to them. Many mangrove forests are getting smaller and many small animals in the sea are losing their homes. It’s time for us to take action.
The good news is that more and more people are waking up to their importance. Volunteers (志愿者) plant new mangrove trees, and scientists study how to protect them better. We can help, too. For example, we should stop putting rubbish into the sea and take part in activities to protect mangroves.
