Today, about 7,000 languages are spoken around the world, but their spread is far from even()
With the global population over seven billion, one might think each language has around 100,000 speakers,
but that's not true.Half the world's people use just a few languages, and the top five-Mandarin,Spanish,
Hindi,English, and Arabic-are spoken by nearly two billion people. This uneven distribution()puts
many other languages at risk of dying out,as experts warn 50%to 90%may disappear by 2100.
Linguistic diversity(语言多样性)varies by places..Europe has over200 languages,,Asia around2,O00,
and Papua New Guinea has more than 800,making it the country with the most languages.North America
has over 150 languages, but half are used by only a small group.Worldwide,25%of languages face a
similar fate, disappearing as fast as some endangered animals-though unlike animals, languages don't
need a specific environment to survive.
There are many reasons for language loss. The historical spread of powerful nations, unfair treatment
of some languages, and laws favoring certain languages all play a part, but business and economy are the
main causes. As more people moved to cities for work,a common language was needed.
Losing a language means losing more than words-it takes away unique cultural knowledge and a
group's sense of identity. For languages with very few speakers,we can only record them. For others,
targeted efforts work.Wales'story shows this:Welsh speakers dropped from nearly 50%to 26%between
1891 and 1961,but after being made an official language, added to education, and getting special TV
channels, nearly 80%of Welsh people can now use it.With the right support, endangered languages can
survive.
32.What does the"uneven distribution of languages"mainly lead to?
A.Some languages facing extinction.
B.More people learning English.
D.The top five languages becoming easier to learn.C.Increased linguistic diversity.
33.Why does the author mention endangered animals in paragraph 2?
A.To add background information.
B.To point out the sharp differences.
C.To introduce a new topic about animals
D.To stress the challenges languages face.
34.What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Factors causing the loss of languages.
B.Ways to prevent languages loss.
C.The influence of language extinction.
D.How English became a global language.
35.As for language loss, what are people advised to do in the last paragraph?
A.Let languages die naturally.
B.Take specific supportive measures
C.Stop using widely-spoken languages.
D.Replace local languages with common ones.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I've loved hip-hop dancing since I was a kid,and in high school,I took classes that focused on jazz
and hip-hop.Dance was my favorite class, and I'd made some of my best friends through it.This senior
year,I thought it would be my best dance class yet-until I heard the news on the first day.
As I walked to class excitedly,I passed one of my fellow dancers."Sarah, have you heard?""Heard
what?""We have a new dance teacher.Her name is Ms.Barton,and she's strictly ballet."Ballet?Well,this
ought to be interesting.
I had never taken ballet in my life.I admitted that I was a bit nervous, but also up for the challenge.I
mean, how hard could it be,right? As I entered the classroom, all the girls were in their blackleotards(
服)and ballet slippers(芭蕾舞鞋).I must have forgot the dress requirement,,let alone that I was taking a
ballet class.I changed into hip-hop-styled clothing that I had in my backpack.
Ms.Barton had us practice basic ballet steps, and she had a strict attitude. She thought we all knew
ballet,so when she asked some volunteers to show it,I raised my hand-only to mess it up badly. She
called me out in front of the class, saying my move was a perfect example of what not to do.I turned bright
red, filled with embarrassment, and wanted to quit right then.
Later, chatting with my best friend Lily after class,I learned our school would hold a ballet audition(
in two weeks-only top dancers could get the chance to perform on the school art festival. Her words
lit up my heart.

第二节 参考范文:
Paragraph 1: I signed up for the ballet audition at once. After that, I threw myself into hard practice. I spent every spare minute on basic steps like pirouettes and plies, even practicing during lunch breaks and after school. Whenever I felt tired or wanted to give up, the thought of proving myself to Ms. Barton kept me going. I also asked Lily and some skilled classmates for help. They patiently corrected my wrong moves again and again. Though I fell down many times and my feet hurt a lot, I never stopped. I just wanted to catch up and do well in the audition.
Paragraph 2: Days later, Ms. Barton announced the audition results in class. My heart beat wildly as she read the names. When I heard my name being called as one of the top dancers, I couldn’t believe my ears. Ms. Barton looked at me with a smile and said I had made great progress. My classmates cheered loudly for me. I felt so proud of myself. It turned out that hard work really pays off. From then on, I not only fell in love with ballet, but also knew that nothing is impossible with determination.
