One day, she decided to become a doctor. That was nearly impossible for a woman in the middle of the nineteenth century. After writing many letters to apply to medical schools, she was finally accepted by a doctor in Philadelphia. She was so determined that she taught at a middle school and gave music lessons to earn money for her study. In 1849, after graduation from medical school, she decided to further her education in Paris. But a serious eye illness forced her to give up the idea. Upon returning to the United States, she found it difficult to start her own practice because she was a woman. By 1857 Elizabeth and her sister, also a doctor, along with another female doctor managed to open a new hospital, the first for women and children. Besides being the first female doctor and founding her own hospital, she also set up the first medical school for women. A HABITAT RESTORATION TEAM Help restore and protect Marin's natural areas from the Marin Headlands to Bolinas Ridge. A 细节理解题:文章中提到“We'll be working rain or shine.”(无论晴雨我们都将工作),说明志愿者需在恶劣天气下工作。 B Sixteen-year-old Tom Smith from the UK has been blind since childhood, yet he has created a miracle with his ears. By listening to the sounds of forests, coasts, and fields, he has become the country's youngest professional nature sound recorder, mapping the world in his mind through sound. Tom's training began in his own backyard. Every day, he recorded changes in birdsong and learned to distinguish the subtle differences in the wind rustling through leaves. Gradually, he became able to identify over 200 bird species by sound alone, and even "hear" shifts in weather and the turning of seasons. "When you close your eyes, the world actually becomes clearer," he says. "Every sound is like a window, telling me stories of nature." To capture the purest audio, Tom often sets out before dawn, waiting quietly in the chilly, damp morning light. His ears can filter out wind noise, determine direction, and even sense the movement of distant animals. Last winter, his audio collection Dawn Chorus was adopted by a nature conservation organization. A rare recording of a nightingale's(夜莺)courtship song within it helped scientists identify a new habitat for the species, providing crucial insights for ecological protection. Today, Tom teaches listening skills online every week, guiding more people to experience the often-ignored world of sound. "We are always in a hurry to see with our eyes, but we forget that sound is nature's most direct whisper," he shares. "Silence is not the absence of sound, but a layered resonance." His story proves that when one door closes, another opens. True discovery lies not in how far you go, but in how deeply you listen—everyone can use their ears to rediscover an overlooked, yet vividly alive world. 24. What is the main reason Tom Smith can identify over 200 bird species? A. He relies on his exceptional ability to distinguish sounds by ear. B. He has received extensive training from a conservation organization. C. He uses special recording equipment provided by scientists. D. He works with a team of professional sound recordists. 25. What does Tom often do to capture the purest nature sounds? A. He travels to remote forests and coasts with a guide. B. He starts his work very early in the morning, before sunrise. C. He uses software to filter out all unwanted background noise. D. He records sounds primarily during the quiet winter months. 26. According to the passage, how did Tom's recording "Dawn Chorus" contribute to science? A. It helped a nature conservation organization raise significant funds. B. It taught people how to record birdsong in their backyards. C. It proved that nightingale songs change with the seasons. D.It allowed scientists to identify a new habitat for nightingales. 27. What is the key message Tom wants to share through his online lessons? A. Professional sound recording requires expensive technology. B. Sighted people can never fully appreciate the natural world. C. People should slow down and listen more deeply to nature's sounds. D. Silence means the complete absence of any audible sound. 24. A 25. B 26. D 27. C 25. A 细节理解题:文章第二段明确指出,Tom通过日常聆听和训练,能够仅凭声音识别超过200种鸟类("...he became able to identify over 200 bird species by sound alone")。 26. B 细节理解题:文章第三段开头明确写道:“为了捕捉最纯净的音频,汤姆经常在黎明前出发”("To capture the purest audio, Tom often sets out before dawn")。 C “Walt Disney World is banning selfie-sticks(自拍杆)from its theme parks because selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty said. Under a new policy, which takes effect Tuesday, the poles won’t make it past the bag check at any Disney World theme park. The sticks also won’t be allowed in Disney World water parks or Disney Quest, a gaming attraction at Downtown Disney. Selfie-sticks will also become forbidden at Disneyland Resort in California on June 30. The prohibition begins at Disney’s parks in Paris and Hong Kong on July 1st. Guests will be checked for the equipment during the routine bag check that happens near the parks’ entrances. They will have an option of turning in their selfie-sticks for pick-up later or to go back to their cars or hotel rooms to keep them. Visitors will be told of the policy in locations such as the parking lots and at the resort’s hotels. The prohibition will be added to the park rules post on Disney World’s website. The issue has been building at Disney. Previously, the sticks were prohibited from its rides, and “no selfie-sticks” signs were at select rides, such as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Magic Kingdom. Cast members have given oral warnings to rule breakers. Selfie-stick users put smartphones and cameras on the ends of poles to extend their reach, frequently capturing theme-park moments through self-portraits. The tools have been banned in public places — including some museums and stadiums — worldwide for obstructing views or causing safety issues. Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers, according to its official website, which also lists “other items that we determine may be harmful”. Universal Orlando has banned selfie-sticks and other loose items from certain thrill rides at Universal Studios and Islands of Adventure theme parks, but it has not set parkwide bans. 28.According to the ban, if the guests are found carrying selfie-sticks during the routine bag check, they may ________. A.abandon them at the bag check  B.get fined and pick them up later C.turn them in to the police D.put them in the trunk of their cars 29.The underlined word in the fifth paragraph probably means ________. A.changing B.broadening C.blocking D.narrowing 30.Which of the following objects has already been banned in Disney World before the new policy takes effect? A.Smartphones. B.Folding chairs. C.Cameras. D.Containers. 31.According to the passage, it can be inferred that _________. A. the ban on the use of selfie-sticks is aimed at ensuring security B. previously guests can take photos with selfie-sticks on thrill rides C. the staff in Disneyland will inform visitors of the ban only orally D.Universal Orlando has banned selfie-sticks park wide 答案详解 28.D 29.C 30.B 31.A 28.D 细节理解题:文章第三段指出,如果游客在安检时被发现携带自拍杆,可以选择:交给工作人员,离园时领回;放回车上或酒店房间。 根据文章倒数第二段:“Disney World already prohibits items such as skateboards, inline skates, wagon, folding chairs and glass containers”,可见折叠椅(folding chairs)早已被禁,故选 B。 31. D Do you use your smartphone while sitting on the toilet? If so, you are probably spending more time there than you normally would – and that could be raising your risk of getting haemorrhoids(痔疮)by almost 50 per cent. “We gastroenterologists (doctors for stomach and intestines) always tell our patients, ‘don’t spend too much time on the toilet’,” says Dr. Trisha Pasricha at a hospital in Boston, USA. “But when I looked into past studies, I found that the facts supporting this advice are quite limited.” Dr. Pasricha and her team did their own study. They asked 125 people (all over 45 years old) who were going to have colonoscopies (a medical check for the large intestine) to answer questions about their toilet habits, health, and physical activities. Images from the colonoscopies were then checked to see if they had haemorrhoids – soft lumps inside or around the bottom. “Haemorrhoids are actually very hard for people to notice by themselves,” says Dr. Pasricha. “Sometimes they are inside, so you can’t feel them. Sometimes what you feel outside are not really haemorrhoids.” Two-thirds of the people in the study said they used their phone on the toilet. “If we do this study with college students later, I think we will find almost everyone brings their phone into the bathroom,” says Pasricha. In this study, 37% of phone users spent over 5 minutes on the toilet on average, compared to only 7% of those who didn’t use a phone there. That means phone users were about five times more likely to sit for over 5 minutes. However, only 5% of phone users admitted that their phone made them stay longer most or all of the time. After considering factors like age and how active people were, the team found that using a smartphone on the toilet was connected to a 46% higher risk of having haemorrhoids. “Our study did not prove that phone use causes haemorrhoids,” says Dr. Pasricha. To better understand this, the next study will ask some people not to use phones in the bathroom, to see if it really is a problem. The team also found no clear link between straining (pushing hard during bowel movements) and haemorrhoid risk. This might be surprising because people often say straining causes piles, but there is little strong evidence. In fact, some studies found that diarrhoea (loose, watery stools) is more closely related to haemorrhoids than constipation (hard, dry stools). 32.What was the main purpose of Dr. Pasricha's study? A. To find out how many people use smartphones on the toilet. B. To check if toilet habits are related to the risk of getting haemorrhoids. C. To prove that straining causes haemorrhoids. D. To compare the toilet habits of older adults and college students. 33.According to the study, which group was much more likely to spend over 5 minutes on the toilet? A. People who read books. B. People who do not use a phone there. C. People who use a smartphone there. D. People over 60 years old. 34.What can we infer from the passage about the next study Dr. Pasricha plans? A. It will only include college students. B. It will prove that smartphone use is the main cause of haemorrhoids. C. It will focus on the link between diarrhoea and haemorrhoids. D. It will try to show if stopping phone use in the bathroom lowers haemorrhoid risk. 35.Which of the following is the best title for this passage? A. Smartphone Use in the Bathroom Linked to Higher Hemorrhoid Risk B. Doctor's Warning: Why You Shouldn't Sit Too Long C. The Dangers of Smartphones D. A New Study About Colonoscopies 答案详解32.B 33.C 34.D 35.A 32. Headaches are very common. For most people, they are not a sign of something serious, 36________ Dr. Katy Munro, a headache expert, shares some simple advice on how to understand and manage them at home. First, it can be useful to keep a “headache diary”. This means writing down when you get a headache and what was happening at that time. 37________ This can help you find out what might be causing your headaches. But remember, keep it simple. Many people think they should avoid coffee when they have a headache. 38________ In fact, a little caffeine can sometimes help painkillers work better. However, drinking too much caffeine every day or having it late in the day can cause more problems. What you eat and drink can play a big role. Eating regular meals is important. Following a healthy diet like the Mediterranean one, with enough protein and good fats, can help keep your energy stable. Don’t skip meals or eat too many sugary snacks. 39________ 40________ There are many painkillers you can buy without a prescription(处方). However, you should avoid medicines that contain codeine, as they can make headaches come back more often. Also, do not take painkillers too often. If they are becoming more frequent, it’s time to see a doctor. A. For example, you can note the weather, what you ate, or how you slept. B. The truth about caffeine is more complicated. C. Finally, it’s important to choose painkillers wisely. D. so you can usually ignore them completely. E. Staying hydrated(含水的)by drinking water is equally crucial. F. Some headaches require special medicine from a doctor. G. In fact, you should drink more coffee for quick relief. 答案解析 36.D 37.A 38.B 39.E 40.C 35. Last Monday morning, a school bus ride in Springfield became an unexpected emergency. Today, thanks to continuous protection efforts, the milu deer population is recovering rapidly, and some are even being trained 64. ___________ (survive) in the wild, writing a new chapter in this species’ 65. ___________ (amaze) rescue story. 答案解析 56.with 考点:介词(表 “具有”) 解析:介词 with 可表示 “具有某种特征或附属部分”,此处 “with the face of a horse...” 63.where 考点:从句引导词(定语从句) 解析:先行词为 “safe habitats”(安全的栖息地,指地点),定语从句 “the deer could live freely...” 64.to survive 考点:非谓语动词(不定式) 解析:“train sb. to do sth.” 意为 “训练某人做某事”,此处为被动语态 “sb. be trained to do sth.”(某人被训练做某事),故填 to survive ,表示 “训练麋鹿在野外生存”。 66. 范文 (An Initiative Letter): Dear fellow students, Wild animals play a crucial role in maintaining the balance of our ecosystem. The School Eco-Club 67. Paragraph 1: Without a second thought, I ran to my desk and pulled out a sheet of paper. The words came easily, four years of hidden feelings now flowing onto the page. I wrote about my first day of high school, about the science prize I’d won but had no one to share it with, about how empty the garden felt without her. Most importantly, I said sorry — for my silence, for my proud heart that saw love as leaving. I closed the letter, and with it, closed away my old anger. As I put it in the mailbox, I felt lighter. It wasn’t just a letter; it was a step I was finally brave enough to take. Paragraph 2: A week later, a light blue envelope arrived in our mailbox. Her answer was short but full of happiness. “My dearest Lily,” she wrote, “your letter made me so very happy.” She added a dry rose leaf from her garden and wrote: “Come any time. The roses are in flower, and your room here is always ready for you.” That summer, I did visit. We worked in the garden together, filling the quiet with talk and laughter. The box of letters now sits by my bed, reminding me that love waits patiently, and that growing up often starts with being brave enough to open a door you once shut. 1. C “Walt Disney World is banning selfie-sticks(自拍杆)from its theme parks because selfie-sticks have become a growing safety concern for both our guests and cast,” Disney World spokeswoman Kim Prunty said. Under a new policy, which takes effect Tuesday, the poles(杆子)won’t make it past the bag check at any Disney World theme park. A.changing B.broadening C.blocking D.narrowing 30.Which of the following objects has already been banned in Disney World before the newpolicy takes effect? A.Smartphones. B.Folding chairs. C.Cameras. D.Containers. 31.According to the passage, it can be inferred that _________. A. the ban on the use of selfie-sticks is aimed at ensuring security B. previously guests can take photos with selfie-sticks on thrill rides C. the staff in Disneyland will inform visitors of the ban only orally D.Universal Orlando has banned selfie-sticks park wide D Do you use your smartphone while sitting on the toilet? If so, you are probably spending more time there than you normally would – and that could be raising your risk of getting haemorrhoids(痔疮)by almost 50 per cent. “We gastroenterologists (胃肠病学家)always tell our patients, ‘don’t spend too much time on the toilet’,” says Dr. Trisha Pasricha at a hospital in Boston, USA. “But when I looked into past studies, I found that the facts supporting this advice are quite limited.” Dr. Pasricha and her team did their own study. They asked 125 people (all over 45 years old) who were going to have colonoscopies(结肠镜检查)to answer questions about their toilet habits, health, and physical activities. In fact, some studies found that diarrhoea(腹泻) is more closely related to haemorrhoids than constipation (便秘). It held many letters from my grandmother, all unopened. When I was twelve, she moved back to her hometown, far away. Before leaving, she hugged me tightly and said, “I’ll write to you every week.” I nodded, but inside I was angry. I felt left behind. As the letters came, I would not read them. I told myself I didn’t care. They became a sign of her being gone, and I hid my sadness under my anger. The box gathered dust, and so did my memory of her voice. On the morning of my sixteenth birthday, I saw the box had fallen. Letters were all over the floor. For the first time in four years, I picked one up. The envelope was old and yellow, with her familiar handwriting. My hands shook as I opened it. “Dear Lily,” it began. “Today I planted roses in my garden, the same kind we used to care for together. I miss our afternoons in the sun. I know you might be mad at me, and that’s okay. Just know that I think of you every day.” I opened another, and then another. Each letter was a piece of our life together — stories about her new neighbors, food she wanted us to make “when you visit,” kind advice for problems she thought I might have. Page after page, I saw not leaving, but strong love quietly waiting for me. Tears filled my eyes as I read the last line of the last letter I opened that morning: “You don’t have to write back. Just know I’m here.” I sat surrounded by opened letters, the morning sun warm on the pages. I had been so wrong. Without a second thought, I ran to my desk and pulled out a sheet of paper. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ A week later, a light blue envelope arrived in our mailbox. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 第 1 页 共 8 页 ) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $第一节听下面5段对话。 Hello, could I speak to mr. black? Last Monday morning, a school bus ride in Springfield became an unexpected emergency. These reserves provided safe habitats 63. ___________ the deer could live freely, feed on wild plants and thrive. However, many species are now facing serious threats, such as habitat loss and illegal hunting. It's time for us to take action. We sincerely invite you to join our "Protect Wildlife, Build a Harmonious Home" campaign. Here is what you can do: 1. Refuse to buy any products made from wild animals. 2. Volunteer to spread knowledge about wildlife protection in your community or online. Every small effort counts. Let's work together to ensure a brighter future for all living beings! Hello, could I speak to mr. black? In fact, some studies found that diarrhoea(腹泻) is more closely related to haemorrhoids than constipation (便秘). A. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ ( 第 1 页 共 8 页 ) 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
