I studied French at high school, mostly with textbooks. At some point my family member recommended that I try Glossika. I decided to dig deeper into the way — looked into Glossika on Youtube — and I thought that this might really work for me. And I decided to give it a shot. At the beginning, it was a leap of faith (大胆一试) . I didn’t really pursue (继续学习) French beyond that. I found myself really wanting to start studying Chinese, so I changed Glossika from French to Chinese about three years ago. I started learning Chinese for lots of reasons. My family member studied Chinese medicine, so we had all these Chinese books around the house. I started reading these books at some point, and took my first interest in Chinese from there. I also did Latin in high school, so I thought that it would be cool to also learn classical Chinese (文言文) at some point. So that was actually one of my end goals: to learn classical Chinese. I know classical Chinese and Chinese aren’t really that similar, so I thought it would probably be suitable to try and learn Chinese first and do classical Chinese after. I think languages come easy to me in a way that I enjoy the process of learning them. People say that I’m gifted but I think it’s just because I’ve made efforts and really put in the time. And I think the more languages you learn, the easier it gets. After doing French, it was easier for me to do Chinese just because I knew it could be done. However, when it comes to learning ability, I don’t think there’s much of a difference between my brain and other people’s brains. I just like acquiring (获得) knowledge and meeting people. I guess I like to learn more about people, in a way, and that pushes me to learn languages. 4. How did the writer start learning French? A. Through Youtube. B. Through Glossika. C. Through family help. D. Through textbooks. 5. What first made the writer interested in Chinese? A. Chinese medicine. B. Classical Chinese. C. Chinese books at home. D. French learning. 6. What does the writer think of language learning? A. It needs special gift. B. First language helps a lot. C. It’s easier for smart people. D. Practice makes it easier. 7. Which best describes the writer? A. Lazy but wise. B. Only interested in Chinese. C. Gifted in school subjects. D. Language-loving and hard-working. C Parents often come across challenges in encouraging their children to eat more healthily, but a new study from Stanford researchers offers hope. The study, led by Jennifer Wang and Priya Fielding-Singh, was published in the Journal of adolescent Health. The researchers find that when teens have health-related food rules at home, they are more likely to eat healthily on their own. To understand how teens make food decisions, Wang and Fielding-Singh surveyed 1,246 high school students from the San Francisco Bay Area. The students were asked about their eating habits and what their parents taught them about food. The findings showed that teens were generally aware of which foods were healthy and which were unhealthy — a fact that parents often ignore. But Wang and Fielding-Singh wanted to know more than just what teenagers thought about food. They wanted to see how teens behaved when they thought their parents weren’t watching. That’s why they conducted an experiment where students chose snacks with or without their parents’ agreement. Ten snack options were presented; five healthy and five less healthy. The results showed that teens with health-related food rules at home were more likely to pick healthy snacks, whether their parents were watching or not. “It is important for parents to understand whether food rules — and which ones — can help encourage healthy eating,” Wang said. The researchers found that rules focusing on health — such as allowing junk food only on special occasions or requiring vegetables at dinner — were effective because they stressed the importance of considering healthiness when making food choices. On the other hand, rules unrelated to health, such as no cellphones at table, had no impact on teens’ food decisions. “We hope these findings offer some encouragement to parents,” said Fielding-Singh. “Having clear do’s and don’ts about healthy eating at home may give kids a road map for making healthier choices when their parents are away.” 8. What did the researchers find about teens’ awareness of healthy food? A. Most teens ignored their parents’ advice on food. B. Teens generally knew which foods were healthy or not. C. Teens made better choices when parents were watching. D. Teens preferred unhealthy snacks when parents were away. 9. Which rule has nothing to do with teens’ healthy food choices? A No cellphones at table. B. Having vegetables at dinner. C. Allowing junk food on special days. D. Focusing on health when choosing food. 10. What does the underlined phrase “a road map” in the last paragraph most likely mean? A. A detailed plan for a trip. B. A book about healthy food. C. A list of restaurant menus. D. A set of clear rules. 11. What is the best title for the text? A. A New Study on Teenagers’ Snacks B. Home Food Rules Help Teens Eat Healthily C. How to Make Teens Choose Healthy Snacks D. Parents’ Challenges in Encouraging Healthy Eating D As we face climate change, a new digital tool helps develop carbon-free (无碳的) energy without harming the wildlife habitats (栖息地) . In Maine, the renewable Energy Siting Tool is a new map that allows the clean energy developers to find the place for solar and wind projects while avoiding those with weak wildlife habitats. Sarah Haggerty, the lead developer, notes that the tool came into being thanks to the data provided by Maine’s Department of Environmental Protection, state biologists, clean energy developers, as well as economic support from the bank. Based on data on land-use, habitats, energy resources, etc. , the tool uses a traffic-light model to find places suitable for development and places to avoid. Green means places like trash sites. Red means wetlands or animal protection zones. Yellow means we need to check the project’s effects more carefully. The tool was developed after Maine passed a law requiring that 80% of Maine’s electricity come from renewable (可再生的) resources by 2030. Haggerty says, “We are in badly need of this tool to help us fight climate change in a way that reduces effects on our valuable natural resources.” Maine is the most forested state in the nation, and agriculture, natural resources, and nature tourism play important roles in its economy. Yet the state is among the top five in losing its farmland to development. It makes little sense to develop clean energy projects at the cost of farmland. When developers report a clean energy project, they often face disagreement from community members who are concerned about the loss of valuable farmland or the effects on wildlife. This can put off investors (投资者) and slow the change to renewable energy. Luckily, this tool can help developers speed up the development of clean energy by quickly finding suitable land. Clean energy development needn’t come at the cost of wildlife. 12. What is the main purpose of the renewable Energy Siting Tool? A. To know the change of climate. B. To find places for clean energy projects. C. To collect data on wildlife habitats. D. To guess the effect of climate change. 13. What colour is used to show the areas that need closer check of the project’s effects? A. Green. B. Red. C. Blue. D. Yellow. 14. What is Haggerty’s attitude to the new tool? A. Indifferent. B. Doubtful. C. Positive. D. Unclear. 15. What is the challenge faced by clean energy developers? A. Lack of financial support. B. Difficulty in finding cheap land for projects. C. Shortage of technology to develop clean energy. D. Some community members’ going against clean energy projects. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 How to Be a Better Player in Sports Do you want to improve your performance in sports? All students could get lovely succulents for free, learn useful care knowledge from our biology teachers and keep growth diaries to record their daily changes carefully. Since adopting my small succulent, I’ve become more responsible and deeply realized how precious every small life is. It also makes my desk lively and brings me much joy in my daily study. Could you please share some small environmental actions around you? I’m looking forward to your reply. Yours, Li Hua 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
