To encourage students to explore the world around them, learn new things, and develop a deeper connection with nature, our school often holds various kinds of exciting and educational school trips. Weeks ago, our school organized a field trip—searching for nature’s “treasures”. The “treasure” was in Xiyuan Park, a small hill of our city. All the students and teachers were excited and joined in the hunt (搜寻) with the goal of exploring the unknown. We called it “The Exploration Journey”. Of course, I joined in, too.
The rule of the game was easy. We were shown a map of the park, with a circle covering about 500 miles at first. As time went on, the circle got smaller and smaller, at last to just one foot.
When I started, I thought it was exciting. I eagerly opened the map, thinking I could easily find out where the treasure was and go to get it. But as hours passed, my excitement began to fade (减弱). I went from feeling happy to feeling down. It was more difficult than I expected—thick bushes (灌木丛) and uneven (不平坦的) ground slowed my every step. The weather was getting hotter, and the map seemed to be giving me no clear direction. I understood I might not be the one taking home the prize.
After the hunt was over, I met a student named Xiaoming. He told me we didn’t need to find the treasure to enjoy the game. He said, “I found lots of interesting mushrooms and cool insects during the trip. We might not have found gold, but the fun and discoveries we made were real treasures.”

A. To win the prize. B. To test a new map.

A. Calm→happy. B. Bored→nervous.

Have you ever wondered why some foods taste amazing while others don’t? Many people think taste is simply something we feel on our tongues, but the truth is far more interesting. The way we taste food is not so simple as you might think. It’s true that when we put food in our mouths, tastebuds on our tongues help us work out what we’re eating.
However, the experience of what we call taste doesn’t just happen in our mouths. In fact, 75 to 95 percent of what we call taste is actually about how a food smells. When we eat, tiny smell particles travel to our noses, sending messages to our brains. Without the sense of smell, even our favorite foods would taste boring.
What’s more, our brains take information from all our senses—sight, smell, touch and even sound, to create the final experience of taste. For example, if we see a food that is red, our brain will guess that it is sweet. As a result, it may taste sweeter than it really is. Green foods may taste more sour. Black foods may taste a little more bitter (苦的), and white foods taste a little more salty. Even shapes can affect the way we taste. A dessert served on a round plate may taste a little sweeter, while the same dessert served on a square plate may taste more bitter. The sound of crunchy (脆) food can also make it seem fresher.
By learning more about taste, scientists believe we can develop healthier foods that still taste good, helping people make better choices and enjoy a healthier, tastier future.
56. How many senses are mentioned in the third paragraph?
A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6.
57. According to the passage how much taste actually comes from smell?
A. B. C. D.
58. What does the underlined word it refer to in Paragraph 3?
A. The red food. B. The green food.
C. The black food. D. The yellow food.
59. Imagine you are the owner of a restaurant, what will you do to make a dessert taste sweeter?
A. Coloring it green. B. Coloring it white.
C. Serving it on a round plate. D. Serving it on a square plate.
60. What can we infer about the scientists mentioned in the passage?
A. They think bitter foods are healthier.
B. They want to make foods more colorful.
C. They plan to change people’s eating habits completely.
D. They hope to use taste research to create healthier foods that still taste good.

In October 2017, astronomers in Hawaii saw a strange object. The object was named 'Oumuamua. It means “visitor from afar” in Hawaiian. It was long and thin—like a cucumber. It entered the inner solar system in August 2017. When it passed the sun, it reached a top speed of 315, 800 km/h. It is more than 250 times the speed of sound. By studying its speed and direction, scientists realized that 'Oumuamua possibly came from a star system 25 light years from our sun—a 600, 000-year journey. Most scientists think it was just a rock. However, others—such as Abraham Loeb—have suggested it could be a piece of alien technology. So 'Oumuamua is still a mystery.
Do you know crop circles? Many years ago, a farmer in UK found something very strange. Someone or maybe something has made unusual shapes in his field by pushing down his crops. The shapes can only be seen from the sky. These are called crop circles. Some people think that aliens make crop circles when they land their spaceships. However, it seems clear that they are made by people. The technology to make them is simple—just a rope and different sizes of wood to make thick or thin lines. A crop circle is made by pushing crops down, leaving empty spaces in the field. Some people make crop circles so others will believe in aliens. Other people make them just for fun. Whatever the reason, crop circles continue to draw attention.
Jupiter (木星) is the largest planet in the solar system. It is so big that 1, 300 Earths could fit inside it. It also has a huge number of moons. So far, 79 moons have been found. Among them, one moon is especially interesting to scientists—Europa. It was discovered in 1610 by Galileo Galilei. It is smaller than Earth’s moon, but it looks very different. Scientists think there might be life because its surface is covered in ice. And under the ice, there is a salty water ocean. The salty ocean water on Europa would be very cold, but scientists have found life in similar conditions on Earth. Future missions (任务) to Europa are being planned. But for now, the icy moon’s secrets remain a mystery.

A. 3. B. 4. C. 5. D. 6.
57. According to the passage, how much taste actually comes from smell?
A. B. C. D.
D
61. Who found 'Oumuamua?
A. Galileo Galilei. B. A farmer in UK.
C. Visitor from afar. D. Astronomers in Hawaii.
62. Why do some people make crop circles?
① To study the planet. ② To just have fun.
③ To grow better crops. ④ To make others believe in aliens.
A. ①③ B. ②④ C. ②③ D. ③④
63. In the third paragraph, the underlined word “moon” means _________.
A. 月亮 B. 卫星 C. 银河 D. 流星
64. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A. Earth’s moon is smaller than Europa.
B. Sound traveled 250 times faster than 'Oumuamua.
C. The shapes of crop circles can only be seen from the sky.
D. Scientists have found life in Europa because its surface is covered in ice.
65. What are similarities among 'Oumuamua, crop circles and Europa?
A. They are something very old. B. They are something expensive.
C. They are something dangerous. D. They are something not yet understood.
