creatures on our own planet grow strong and tall in seemingly unlivable conditions. Some microbes
(live on the deep ocean floor.Learning about these microbes broadens our view of what
places in the universe might be livable.
The question of whether we are alone in the universe has captured people's imagination for
thousands of years. And the answer has two equally exciting possibilities. In outer space, either we are
completely alone-or we are not.
24.What can be inferred from the second paragraph?
A.Aliens have been found up to now.
B.The universe has a lot to be discovered.
C.There can't be aliens on other planets.
D.No messages have been received from outer space.
25.Why are some scientists against sending our messages into space?
A.It is hard to send messages into space.
B.Aliens cannot receive the messages.
C.It may bring trouble to human beings.
D.Aliens are not so smart as us humans.
26.Why does the author mention microbes in the fifth paragraph?
A.To show aliens might be easier to be found.
B.To illustrate microbes like living in the sea.
C.To explain why hardy creatures can grow stronger.
D.To show that life may exist in some poor conditions.
27.In which part of a magazine can you probably find the text?
A.Fashion.
B.Health.
C.Sports.
D.Science.

Plenty of science fiction (sci-fi)movies over the decades have shown us different versions of
Mars. The truth about the Martian surface might be exciting because it's real. And with NASA's
Mars 2020 mission set to launch,we're facing more discovery.
So far, thanks to a decade of research enabled by NASA's Curiosity rover,we've learned that
lakes, rivers, streams and likely oceans used to appear on Mars. While its water disappeared over three
billion years ago,it tells us that Mars used to be habitable. This knowledge confuses us because so
far,we've seen no clear evidence of life there, not even a virus. But if Mars was once habitable,
wouldn't it have life?
NASA is now prepared to take the next step to answer this question with the launch of another
rover,Perseverance.Every time a rover goes to Mars,it just stays there, with no way to fly back
home.So we have never brought rock or soil samples back from Mars.
The Perseverance rover will change this. Its primary and unique purpose is to collect samples that
a future spacecraft can return to Earth. These samples will tell us more about the geologic history of
Mars than anything we've learned, which is already a lot.Since 2012,the Curiosity rover has travelled
more than a dozen miles, making observations along the way with its 10 instruments.
Thanks to data from the Curiosity rover's Sample Analysis at Mars instrument,we know that
Mars does indeed have organic materials. That's more complex than we expected to find on the
surface of Mars. And that's exactly why we want to gather the most interesting samples and bring
them back to Earth. We expect to find out much more about Mars once we get samples back from the
Mars 2020 mission.
28.What is the purpose of the Mars 2020 mission?
A.To explore the Martian surface.
B.To travel around the universe.
C.To show the power of NASA.
D.To study the life on Mars.
29.What does the underlined word "habitable"in Paragraph 2 probably mean
A.Enjoyable to visit.
B.Suitable for living.
C.Ready for changes.
D.Convenient to travel.
30.What was the problem with Mars exploration before Perseverance?
A.The rovers could not reach Mars.
B.Observations were hard to make.
C.Samples on Mars couldn't be brought back.
D.Study instruments got lost in the space station.
31.Which of the following can be the best title of the text?
A.New Mars rover to be launched
B.Sci-fi movies on Mars to be made
C.Curiosity to bring back Mars samples
D.NASA to send manned rover to Mars

Many years ago, people relied on the sun,the moon and stars to find their way around.Later,
the compass was introduced. And now,we have satnav(卫星导航)systems to guide us.A satnav
system uses groups of satellites to show the user's location. They send information to a receiver, such
as a smartphone,to show us where we are.
The earliest built satnav system is the Global Positioning Satellite System, which belongs to the
US.Then there is Russia's Global Navigation Satellite system, the European Union's Galileo and
China's own satellite navigation system,Beidou.
On October 18,2017,an ARJ21-700 plane, which was the first domestically (
produced jet equipped with the Beidou navigation system, successfully completed a test flight. The
results showed the performance of the system developed by China matches that of similar systems
produced abroad, according to the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China.
Since its introduction in 2000,the Beidou navigation system has been increasing numbers of
applications linked to everyday life, from shared bikes to farming.
When it comes to shared bikes, smart locks that support Beidou chips offer more accurate
positioning than others, making it easier to find a bike.
Farmers can use Beidou-enabled tractors to plow (the soil and use unmanned aircraft with
Beidou to sow seeds, which can improve efficiency and make better use of resources.Beidou's farming
applications have spread from Heilongjiang Province to Beijing,Liaoning,Shanxi,Hubei and other
regions across China.
With its many uses, the Beidou navigation system is even playing a big role in the Belt and Road
Initiative(“一带一路”倡议).“To date, the Beidou system has covered most parts of the Asia
Pacific region,as well as countries along the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime
Silk Road,"said Yang Changfeng, chief designer of the Beidou system.
Today, there are more than 20 Beidou satellites above our heads, and China plans to launch even
more this year to expand the Beidou network to better serve the Belt and Road Initiative.
"As Beidou expands its overseas reach,it will be increasingly popular in the logistics (
industry, said Miao Qianjun,Secretary General of the navigation services association."Ships, for
example, can use it to position themselves while sailing across oceans to European countries,no
longer limited to Southeast Asian regions in the near future.
32.What is the purpose of the first two paragraphs?
A.To compare some modern satnav systems.
B.To describe the benefits of satnav systems.
C.To tell us how satnav systems were created.
D.To introduce some satnav systems and their functions.
33.What can we know about the Beidou navigation system according to the article?
A.It was used successfully in a new jet plane.
B.It is more powerful than other satnav systems.
C.It was introduced to China on October,2017.
D.It wasn't used in our everyday life until recently.
34.According to the article, the Beidou navigation system is already widely used for
A.plowing the soil and sowing seeds
B.improving the efficiency of network
C.producing more smart locks for shared bikes
D.navigating ships across oceans to European countries
35.What is Miao Qianjun's attitude toward the future of the Beidou system?
A.Worried.
B.Casual.
C.Positive.
D.Doubtful.

Going to outer space is a little like going camping. You have to carry with you all the food and
equipment you need for your trip,so your food can't be too heavy or hard to prepare.36 Food
with all the water dried out is lightweight and doesn't spoil. So,many space foods are dried on Earth
and stored in special packets.
On Earth, gravity is the force that keeps your feet on the ground and your sandwich on your
plate.37 To keep food from floating away, astronauts on the space shuttle attach the packets to a
special tray. The tray can be fixed to a wall or to the astronaut's lap.To prepare their food, astronauts
use liquid forms of salt and pepper. The liquid sticks to the food better.Regular salt and pepper would
float away,maybe up an astronaut's nose.Achoo
38 So astronauts drink everything from a small bag with a straw(饮料吸管)that can be
closed.Astronauts say that most space foods taste pretty good.
Some, such as apples and pudding are the same as the foods you eat on Earth.Astronauts eat
tortillas(玉米粉圆饼)instead of bread because they make fewer crumbs(碎屑).39
Your body uses food in space the same way it does on Earth.40 During taking off and
landing, astronauts can't leave their seats to go to the bathroom. They wear diapers (under
their spacesuits instead. The space shuttle has a bathroom the size of a small closet. The toilet has
bars that keep astronauts from floating away.A strong flow of air is used instead of water to flush
waste down the toilet.Back on Earth it's flushed away-or sometimes studied by scientists.
A.But there's no gravity in space.
B.Liquids float right out of cups and glasses.
C.Your body must get rid of waste in space too.
D.Crumbs cannot be dealt with in outer space.
E.In addition, everything seems to be different in outer space.
F.Besides, there are no refrigerators to keep food cold and fresh.
G.With them floating, they could get stuck in equipment or an astronaut's eye.

Sam and I had been paired up through a mentoring()program when he was a first grader. As
a former teacher,I missed making an impact on young people,so as soon as 1 heard of this program
for at-risk school kids,I signed up.
At first,it didn't seem as if the two of us were a good match.Sam hardly looked at me;he barely
spoke or smiled.I tried everything to engage with him.Nothing worked.Week after week,I'd drive 30
minutes to the school only to sit with a little boy who didn't seem to care whether I was there or not.
I was so frustrated.
One day,I noticed Sam wearing an Iron Man shirt. The next week,I brought a board game
)featuring Iron Man characters. When I opened the box,his eyes lit up.He dove fight in and
played the game with me.As I was leaving that day,he looked up at me and said,"See you next
week.”
He and I built our relationship from there.I would spend his Friday lunch period with him,
talking, playing games and just being a friend.Little by little,he opened up to me about his home life.
His dad wasn't around. His mother supported the family by working at nights in a local factory,so
Sam's older sibling took care of him most of the time.
Right then and there,I wished to make sure the two of us always kept in touch-even after the
program ended. Now it would be our last Friday lunch together. How could I make sure we had a
great meal and that he would still remember me?
So I looked for some inspiration for the perfect gift for him-a gift Sam would enjoy holding on
to.On Wednesday,I was watching TV and a fast-food restaurant commercial came on,advertising the
toy that came in the kids'meals-a small Iron Man toy.
注意:续写词数应为150左右。
Suddenly it hit me:Here was the idea I'd looked for!
At the school,I sat down with Sam and handed him the bag.
