(2025·安徽省临泉第二中学高三下期中考试)Adolescents' enthusiasm for beauty products is nothing new. Today, however, skin care is a far more serious business. Gone are the days of teens aimlessly browsing random drugstores by day and dirtying their pillows with bronzer by night. Now, kids don't just know how to get cleaned up properly, but also they've taken to beauty products with greater enthusiasm. Ridiculous as it sounds, that craze is sharply unpleasant. The closer you look at the teen skin care craze, the more issues appear. Doctors report children as young as nine coming to their offices for cosmetic consultations.Teens are crazy about the socalled “preventative” antiaging properties of a brand, and the Internet is filled with youngsters seeking solutions to their “wrinkles”. All this comes with harmful undercurrents less familiar to the adults who went before them. Adult products boasting “antiaging, tightening, wrinklereducing, brightening and firming” effects are likely to include ingredients unsuitable for kids' skin, which is yet to form the protective barriers necessary to handle them, and therefore teens may develop allergies to some ingredients. Moreover, their prices remain decidedly grownup, and the potential cost overall is breathtaking. This might put economical pressure on kids and on the parents who often foot the bill. “Preventative” antiaging is a perfect trick for companies willing to take advantage of youthful insecurities. There's no way of knowing what you'd have looked like if you hadn't used the products, but you can certainly assume you'd look worse if you stopped. Once teens get a little older, an additional world of nonsurgical procedures becomes available to them, the cost of which can run into the thousands. Until just several years ago, parents' main beautyrelated concern was that their kids might go out wearing “too much” makeup. When I was growing up, I experimented, with minimal investment, and then I moved on. That's how it should be. The most worrying thing about today's skin care craze isn't just that the financial and emotional buyin are completely out of proportion to the “need” being addressed. They may set kids up for lasting damage. So stay away from beauty products, young people! 1.How does the author feel about teens' enthusiasm for beauty products? A.Embarrassed. B.Panicked. C.Negative. D.Confused. 根据第一段中的“Ridiculous as it sounds, that craze is sharply unpleasant.” C。 2.Why do teenagers have a passion for beauty products? A.They tend to make comparisons with others. B.They are uncertain about their physical changes. C.They are influenced by online information about health. D.They try to avoid high prices of nonsurgical procedures. B。 3.What does the author focus on in the last paragraph? A.The right attitude to beauty products. B.Teenagers' misuse of beauty products. C.The solution to kids' beautyrelated issues. D.Parents' concern about kids' craze for makeup. A。 4.Which can be the best title for the text? A.How to get rid of annoying wrinkles B.A new trend: “Preventative” antiaging C.What to blame for fake beauty products D.A warning sign: Teens' craze for skin care 答案:D 解析:标题判断题。 Gone are the days of teens aimlessly browsing random drugstores by day and dirtying their pillows with bronzer by night. (2025·安徽省合肥市第九中学高三下限时训练)Women were less likely than men to support the Vietnam war, the Gulf war, or the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq. They commit far fewer murders. They are less likely to favor strikes. For some scholars, these are grounds for thinking that a world run by women would be more peaceful. But European history suggests otherwise, according to political scientists Oeindrila Dube and S.P. Harish. They studied how often European rulers went to war between 1480 and 1913, and found that states ruled by queens were 27% more likely to get involved in wars than those ruled by kings. This was not all the queens' fault: men, seeing them as soft targets, tended to attack them. Frederick the Great of Prussia once declared: “No woman should ever be allowed to govern anything.” Shortly after becoming king, he attacked the newly crowned Archduchess of Austria, Maria Theresa, and seized Silesia province. Despite years of war, she never recovered it. But perceived weakness is not the whole story. Queens, the researchers found, were more likely to gain new territory. Catherine the Great expanded her empire by some 200,000 square miles. And married queens were more aggressive than single queens or kings, whether single or married. The authors suggest several reasons for this. First, married queens may have been able to form more military alliances (联盟), making them confident enough to pick fights. Their husbands had often served in the army before they married, and were well placed to strengthen military ties between their homelands and their wives' states. Second, unlike most kings, queens often gave their husbands a lot of power, putting them in charge of foreign policy or the economy. During the 1740s, Maria Theresa's husband, Francis Ⅰ, reformed the Austrian economy and raised money for the armed forces while his wife ruled much of central Europe. Prince Albert was Queen Victoria's most trusted adviser, shaping her foreign policy until his death in 1861. This division of labor, the authors suggest, freed up time for queens to pursue more aggressive policies. The modern era, too, has witnessed female leaders in wars: Golda Meir and the Yom Kippur war, or Margaret Thatcher and the Falklands. The number of countries led by women has more than doubled since 2000, but there is plenty of room for improvement: the current level of 15 represents less than 10% of the total. A world in which more women took power might be more equal. Whether it would be more peaceful is a different question. 5.Why did Frederick the Great attack Maria Theresa soon after she became ruler? A.He opposed her dislike of starting wars. B.He wanted Austria's important trade roads. C.He believed female leaders were easier to defeat. D.He blamed her for losing the land in the past wars. C。 6.Why were married queens more likely to gain new territory? A.Because their military alliances picked fights for them. B.Because they were ambitious and aggressive by nature. C.Because they centralized all power into their own hands. D.Because their husbands were supportive in state governing. D。 7.What is the purpose of mentioning the two female leaders in the last paragraph? A.To imply there is room for improvement in gender equality. B.To indicate more females become leaders in modern times. C.To suggest female leaders have their share of wars in modern times. D.To illustrate female leaders cannot prevent wars in modern times. 根据最后一段中的“The modern era ... or Margaret Thatcher and the Falklands.(现代也见证了女性领导人参与战争:Golda Meir (戈尔达·梅尔)与赎罪日战争,或者Margaret Thatcher (玛格丽特·撒切尔)与福克兰群岛战争。)” C。 8.Which can be the best title for the text? A.Women in Power: A Promise for Peace? B.The Historical Impact of European Queens C.The Role of Male Advisers in Female Leadership D.Married Queens vs. Single Queens: Who Rules Better? 故选A。 The modern era, too, has witnessed female leaders in wars ... (2025·甘肃省白银市第八中学高三下阶段性考试)When caught in the rain, we have all run for cover—often to a nearby tree. On the way, we step over shortlived puddles and hastily formed streams, marveling at how quickly the soil changes from supportive and predictable to untrustworthy: slippery, soft, and spongy. At the first chance we tend to flee, skipping further observation. Given that direct observations are often unfeasible,__remote observation systems are crucial in capturing phenomena that are frequent and unpredictable. However, the Bimbache community of El Hierro observed water running down tree bark during fog events and captured it for drinking, washing and agriculture. If more contemporary hydrologists (水文学家) had watched the raking of fog by trees, forest managers would not have logged the Bull Run Watershed, which reduced local rainfall by 30%. Water science faces criticism because of “technooptimism that tries to solve all problems despite not asking fundamental questions”. In fact, this issue extends beyond water science. An interdisciplinary research team led by John Van Stan from Cleveland State University argues that scientists should go beyond the laboratory to directly observe weather phenomena. The researchers insist that handson observation of storm events is crucial in comprehending the complexities of wet weather. “Natural scientists seem increasingly content to stay dry and rely on remote sensors and samplers, models, and virtual experiments to understand natural systems. Consequently, we can miss important stormy phenomena, imaginative inspiration, and opportunities to build intuition—all of which are critical to scientific progress,” said Van Stan's team. This type of “umbrella science”, they warn, can miss important localized events. For instance, in describing rainwater's flow from the forest treetops to the soils, the authors note that “if several branches efficiently capture and carry storm water to the stem, rainwater inputs to nearstem soils can be more than 100 times greater”. Likewise, water vapor (水蒸气) clouds trapped beneath forest treetop covers may escape remote detection, yet be sensitive to scientists on the ground. On a broader level, these oversights can affect ground Earth system models, which often underestimate forest treetop water storage. Direct observation, however, has gone beyond making up for the shortcomings of “umbrella science”. Van Stan and colleagues see core value in firsthand storm experiences—not only for natural scientists, but also students studying the impacts of climate change on ecosystems. 9.How do people tend to react to rain? A.In a defensive manner. B.In a scientific manner. C.With a waitandsee attitude. D.With an observationoriented attitude. 根据第一段中的“When caught in the rain ... often to a nearby tree.”以及“At the first chance we tend to flee, skipping further observation.” A。 10.Which of the following words can replace the underlined word in Paragraph 2? A.Impolite. B.Impossible. C.Inconvenient. D.Illogical. B。 11.What does Van Stan's research team argue in terms of handson observation? A.It is effortless and precise. B.It is virtual and accepted. C.It is complex yet timesaving. D.It is crucial yet overlooked. 根据第三段中的“The researchers insist that ... the complexities of wet weather.” D。 12.What will the author probably discuss in the paragraph that follows? A.The grounds for starting the research. B.The scientific value of conducting the research. C.The strengths of the research for learners majoring in ecology. D.The expert evaluations of the research across disciplines. 根据最后一段中的“Van Stan and colleagues ... climate change on ecosystems.” 缺点,短处 ⑤make up for 弥补,补偿 佳句:Water science faces criticism because of “technooptimism that tries to solve all problems despite not asking fundamental questions”. (2025·广西南宁市第三中学高考模拟试题(八))Will artificial intelligence (AI) replace my job? This is a question that many people think about these days. At present, the application of AI robotics in professional fields, as well as ChatGPT's abilities to write essays, solve complex problems and more, has heightened moral concerns. Some people see AI as the ultimate cure for society's most fundamental problems, while others fear that AI will overtake human intelligence. These two views are based on the assumption that AI is better and smarter than humanity and may ultimately replace human decisionmaking. But given the fact that technology is the product of human civilization, the challenge from AI is something we have created for ourselves as we keep pushing our own boundaries. In other words, AI's progress, functions and future direction are all determined by the human brain. Before AI becomes a threat to humanity, the international community should reach an agreement on the role it is to play. More importantly, related laws and regulations must ensure that AI will benefit society and prevent it from threatening human life. Robots, for example, are believed to develop emotional intelligence someday, which enables them to recognize, understand and express emotions in a way that is similar to humans, but we must avoid AI copying human emotions. Without legal restrictions, AI may become a social disaster. The AIdriven new industrial revolution is irreversible. This, like previous ones, which introduced changes that had been unimaginable before, will certainly affect human employment. But it always turned out humanity was able to adapt to each industrial revolution and create new forms of employment. Therefore, it's unnecessary to worry that AI will replace our jobs. While technology advances at a rapid pace, what we need to do is to welcome the AI era rather than block its unfolding for fear of the unknown. 13.Why are some people concerned about AI? A.It may outsmart humans. B.It has led to social problems. C.It has been applied widely. D.It is the product of humanity. 根据第二段中的“Some people see AI as the ultimate cure ... replace human decisionmaking.” A。 14.How can we prevent AI's potential threat? A.By stirring emotions. B.By blocking functions. C.By setting restrictions. D.By changing regulations. 根据第三段中的“More importantly, related laws and regulations ... threatening human life.” C。 15.What does the underlined word “irreversible” in the last paragraph mean? A.Undesirable. B.Unavoidable. C.Unpredictable. D.Unbelievable. 根据画线词后的“This, like previous ones ... affect human employment.” B。 16.What does the writer suggest readers do with the coming of the AI era? A.Accept it passively. B.Deal with it positively. C.Respond to it randomly. D.Defend it unconditionally. 根据最后一段中的“While technology advances ... for fear of the unknown.” While technology advances at a rapid pace, what we need to do is to welcome the AI era rather than block its unfolding for fear of the unknown.
