(2025·吉林省吉林市实验中学高三下学期5月模拟预测)To truly understand a place, reading books or listening to travelers' stories about it is not enough. Only by standing on its land, using its language, and experiencing it firsthand can you truly say, “I know this place.” London, for me, became more than just a city of kings and queens or a financial center of the world—it came alive in ways I could never have imagined. London's life doesn't only exist in its grand palaces. You can feel it on the streets, in the underground, and in the pubs. As you walk around, different smells greet your nose, showing the city's history, variety and energy. What struck me the most was London's variety. Walking down the streets felt like wandering through a vibrant market—you never know what kind of face, language, or culture you will come across next. On one street, you could travel the world, tasting food from every corner of the globe. The openness and freedom there are amazing. Despite this, London also felt isolated (孤立的) at times. The busy subway tunnels, filled with bright ads, seemed disconnected. And even though people could understand me perfectly, speaking not in my mother tongue felt a bit odd and made me feel like an outsider. I also realized that life in London isn't easy for everyone. Everything seems to come with a price—whether it's getting good service at a restaurant or entering a museum exhibit. It felt like access to the “good life” was something you really had to pay for. London is a city that attracts, inspires and sometimes deceives (欺骗). But after walking its streets and experiencing it firsthand, I can finally say I've seen London with my own eyes and felt it with my heart. 1.Where can you feel the life of London? A.At the airport. B.At the restaurants. C.In the museums. D.In everyday settings. 根据第二段中的“You can feel it on the streets, in the underground, and in the pubs. D。 2.How did the author feel when speaking English in London? A.Upset and scared. B.Strange and distant. C.Excited and confident. D.Natural and comfortable. 根据第三段中的“And even though ... made me feel like an outsider.” B。 3.What can be inferred about London's “good life”? A.It provides quality service to all. B.It is accessible to locals for free. C.It costs much to fully experience. D.It is limited to historical landmarks. 根据第四段中的“Everything seems to come ... you really had to pay for.” C。 4.What message does the text mainly express? A.London is the best city in the world to live in. B.London's history is its most attractive feature. C.Experiencing a place personally leads to real understanding. D.Mastering foreign language ensures meaningful travel experience. What struck me the most was London's variety. (2025·山西省山西大学附属中学高三下月考)I often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I've fought through countless times. I rush my morning routine and run to my car. My radio switches to my favorite song, but I have to listen to an audible (可听的) book for an assignment due tomorrow. When I get to school, I start with Spanish, my hardest class. Despite being around all year, I have no clue what's going on. I then walk to my English class, in which I was stuck in the language rules. The assignments take so much energy that my perfectionist nature is unable to take on in school, so I save them for later, most probably late at night. This is my reality as a student with dyslexia, a learning disorder in reading and spelling: assignments that take three times as long as they're meant to, late nights and early mornings to even slightly keep up with my classes. I was told that Advanced Placement US History would be my hardest class. But here, I am in__my__element. Despite being three assignments behind, I'm actively engaged. Yes, my passion for history heightens my focus, but my teacher's willingness to work with me is what allows me to fly high. Teachers need to offer alternative structures that make learning more accessible. I've had teachers who teach lecturebased classes where students are expected to take notes and listen. As a student with dyslexia, this doesn't work. A fix for that is as simple as providing alternative resources: a slide show students can go back to after class, or perhaps even an activity that further plays with the concepts. Now, many schools are shifting to approaches that meet the needs of all kids. However, advocacy work can still be done to support students with dyslexia. If school systems are willing to provide support and education by creating an accessible class structure from the start, students won't be stuck into academic tracks that don't push them to their full potential. 5.Why does the author have to do his homework late at night? A.Burning the midnight oil. B.Biting off more than I can chew. C.Feeling like a fish in water. D.Having butterflies in my stomach. 根据画线部分下文“Despite being three assignments behind ... to fly high.” C。 7.What does the author think of lecturebased classes? A.Satisfying. B.Inspiring. C.Rewarding. D.Demanding. 根据第五段中的“I've had teachers ... this doesn't work.” D。 8.What does the author advise schools to do for students? A.Offer classes with alternatives. B.Ask educational experts to give lectures. C.Advocate outofclass activities. D.Get teachers trained in special education. 根据第五段中的“Teachers need to offer ... more accessible.”以及“A fix for that is ... with the concepts.” 故选A。 I often wake up to my alarm after a short night and step out of bed to a day I've fought through countless times. (2025·广东省实验中学高三下联考)My anxiety often directly blocks my ability to communicate. Something as simple as ordering food in a restaurant can become a burden when my body feels like it's against my mind. It began in primary school, and I have tried a number of techniques. Speech therapy proved unhelpful, but I believe that my undergraduate training as a poet, with its emphasis on a logic of association rather than strict reality, also prepared me well for my therapy work. Poetry requires a kind of openness to the unknown. Composing poetry creates its own rhythm, helping writers avoid the conscious mind and use the poetic logic of the unconscious. One of the most troubling things is that it can be hard to know what will tip__off the anxiety. My anxiety often grows out of the smallest social interactions and spirals until I'm left questioning my own existence. In these moments, poetry provides a way of making sense of the world. I have often used poetry as a coping mechanism for anxiety. When it's just me and the infinite (无限的) possibility of the blank page, I can turn that moment into an opportunity for greater selfunderstanding. An inability to speak becomes, in one of my poems, “A crowded mass of logs blocking the river of my throat.” In writing poems, I feel that something occurs: Once they're on the page, they are out of my head. Rather than being consumed by my anxiety, I can evaluate it objectively. More than this, however, I feel that poetry allows me to hold hope and despair in the meantime. Although I was introduced to poetry outside of a therapeutic context, I believe that my experience demonstrates that poetry can be useful in a clinical setting, whose unique grammatical structure can allow patients to access parts of themselves that would be closed off by the conscious mind. Other forms of creativity such as drawing, painting and photography may similarly help patients view their thoughts and emotions from new perspectives, and thus allow them to consider and process them differently. It is my hope that this post will provide an opening to consider the role of poetry and creative expression more broadly, in the therapeutic process. 9.What can we know about the author from Paragraph 1? A.He was unable to speak after primary school. B.He learnt the logic of association from poetry. C.He found it simple to order the food he wanted. D.He was recommended to learn poetry in college. 根据第一段中的“Speech therapy proved unhelpful ... for my therapy work. B。 10.What does the underlined phrase “tip off” in Paragraph 3 mean? A.Reveal. B.Cause. C.Overcome. D.Lower. 根据第三段中的“My anxiety often grows out of ... I'm left questioning my own existence.” B。 11.What role does poetry play in the author's experience? I was simply waving goodbye to my daughters when it hit me to take a few steps backward. Since I'd already started, I thought I could walk all the way home that way. After all, the contradiction of moving forward by going backward seemed engaging and worth exploring. The first problem was practical. Snow is a pain even for regular walking, so my pace slowed down considerably. At this different pace, life itself felt rushed in comparison. How silly it is that we're always in such a hurry to get somewhere. For example, I often arrive at places long after my body gets there. Sometimes I reach my daughters' school, but my mind is still at home, wondering whether I unplugged my wife's hair dryer. Walking backward, however, forced me to adjust the pace of my body to my mind. The next thing had to do with vision. In regular walking, the path ahead is always visible. Here, you use other senses: you hear the car approaching, you sense the unevenness of the ground, and you notice the change in the firmness of the snow. You activate an entire set of skills we usually don't use because of our dependence on sight. This way, the familiar path I walked every day suddenly felt like a grand adventure, a discovery I hadn't anticipated. Because of my addiction to foolish ideas, I decided to continue my backward walking for the rest of the day. And I quickly realized something obvious: the path I enjoyed most was the one I had already travelled. It struck me that this was the right way to look at life: moving toward a destination without ever forgetting where you've been, or how far you've come. Looking back is always good for selfvalue. There's no way to look at yesterday and not feel better: for the illness that didn't kill you, or the happy childhood days that still make you smile. 13.What interested the author in the first paragraph? A.We need to stay focused at work. B.We don't need to live a rushed life. C.We should spend more time with family. D.We shouldn't compare ourselves to others. 根据第二段中的“At this different pace ... a hurry to get somewhere.” B。 15.How did the author overcome the vision problem? A.He studied a set of new skills. B.He depended on his memory. C.He followed his sense of direction. Nowadays, smart phones flood us with text messages. Many consumers are buying the latest digital devices, from tablets and fitness trackers to commercial drones. Simple living seems to be a thing of the past. Thoreau would beg to differ. As a writer who advocated the value of simplicity almost two centuries ago, he was a contrarian (叛逆者) for his time. He lived during the height of the Industrial Age, distinguished by the rise of large factories, expanding urban developments, and powerful machines. Turned off by the constant busyness of this time, Thoreau withdrew from city life to live alone in the woods. He brought with him only the necessities of life and wrote about this adventure in his book Walden. In the book, Thoreau is basically making a philosophical statement. We are not living meaningful lives due to modern technology. We created powerful machines to make life more convenient. Unfortunately, these machines have done the opposite. In his words, “men have become the tools of their tools”. That is to say, we are not the ones controlling technology. Technology is controlling us. Every few minutes, smart phones may distract us with messages. At least half of Americans check their phones several times an hour. Meanwhile, information overload from social media can weaken our concentration and heighten confusion. When technology causes that much distraction and confusion, it may be healthy to simplify life by reducing technology overuse. Personally, I've done so in two ways. First, I use very little data on my phone and keep the apps on it to a minimum. Most time, I only use my phone to call or text. Second, I quit most social media. Sure, those two things aren't as extreme as Thoreau withdrawing into the woods. Nevertheless, they're realistic moves I can make toward living a more meaningful life. 17.Which statement would Thoreau probably agree with? A.Technology holds back our ambition. B.Technology is key to a meaningful life. C.Simplicity is outdated in modern times. D.Simplicity matters even in a techdriven world. D。 18.Thoreau escaped to the woods because ________. A.he was abandoned by society B.he was fed up with busy industrial life C.he tried to prove his independence D.he enjoyed adventures in the forest 答案:B 解析:细节理解题。根据第三段中的“Turned off by the constant busyness of this time, Thoreau withdrew from city life to live alone in the woods.” B。 19.Why are smart phones and social media mentioned in Paragraph 4? A.To demonstrate the dominance of technology. B.To show the convenience of technological tools. C.To discuss the effect of modernization. D.To highlight the extensive use of technology. A。 20.What does the author think of his ways of simplifying life? A.Satisfying. B.Exciting. C.Amusing. D.Challenging. 根据最后一段中的“Sure, those two things ... living a more meaningful life.(当然,这两件事并不像Thoreau隐居树林那样极端。 故选A。 困惑 ⑤that is to say 换言之 佳句:Nowadays, smart phones flood us with text messages.
