Water is the most important resource for all living beings on Earth. It is rightly called the “elixir (灵丹妙药) of life”, as no life can live without it. Although nearly 70% of the Earth’s surface is covered with water, only a small part is fresh and fit for drinking. This makes it essential to save water and use it wisely.
Water is needed for many activities in our daily life, such as drinking, cooking, cleaning and farming. Plants, animals and humans all depend on water to live. These days, many of us are no strangers to drones (无人机). We use them to take amazing pictures or send things. But a man in the US came up with a new idea. He turned his drone into a “Poopcopter” to pick up dog poop (粪便).
Caleb Olson, 30, is an engineer. He is always busy trying to solve problems. As the owner of a playful dog, Olson knows that cleaning up after one is not enjoyable. “Lots of people have dogs, but nobody likes to touch dog poop,” he said. “I thought, ‘Why not make something to do this dirty work?’”
The “Poopcopter” is basically a drone with a camera on it. As the drone flies over a certain area, the camera looks for dog poop on the ground. Once it finds poop, the drone lands and picks it up before flying it to a rubbish bin.
Olson toyed with other names for his invention (发明), such as the “Doo Doo Drone”, but the “Poopcopter” won out in the end. “It’s like a little poop-picking helicopter (直升飞机),” he explained. “The name is short, but it clearly communicates the idea.”
The“Poopcopter” is still in the experimental stage. Olson is trying to make it work better. Then, he plans to sell it. The simple design and materials mean that the “Poopcopter” could be cheap. Would you like to buy one for your dog?
16.What can the “Poopcopter” do?
A.Play with dogs. B.Clean up dog poop.
C.Take photos of dogs. D.Pick up things quickly.
17.Why did Olson create the “Poopcopter”?
A.Because he loved playing with drones.
B.Because he disliked touching dog waste.
C.Because he wanted to sell drones for money.
D.Because he wanted to use it to play with his dog.
18.Why did Olson finally choose the name “Poopcopter”?
A.His dog liked the name. B.It is a popular name in the U.S.
C.It is easy to read and remember. D.It tells people what the drone does.
19.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in Paragraph 3?
A.The poop. B.The dog. C.The camera. D.The “Poopcopter”.
20.What can we know about the “Poopcopter” in the last paragraph?
A.It can work perfectly. B.People can buy it now.
C.Olson is still improving it. D.It only cleans Olson’s dog’s poop.

For most visitors, no other tourist city is quite like Venice. They love its art museums, beautiful traditional buildings and squares. They also enjoy sitting in cafés and talking, or going to restaurants and tasting the delicious Italian food in the city. 26
Venice is a city on the water. 27 Canals (运河) run through the city like streets, so people usually travel around it by boat every day. For most visitors, their trips won’t be complete without a boat trip through the canals.
28 These years, it’s slowly going down into the water. When high tides (潮汐) come, the water from the ocean comes into the city. It happens more often, so Venice is lower than it was in the past. 29
Luckily, engineers are working on a project to save Venice. 30 It is difficult and expensive to do that. But if it works, Venice’s beautiful buildings will be safe, and the city will still be there for people to visit long into the future.
A.This is also destroying the old buildings in the city.
B.They’re putting 78 big gates to stop the water from coming in.
C.You can find over 117 islands and more than 400 bridges in it.
D.But what makes Venice a really special place is the water.
E.However, Venice is in danger because of its water.
F.Venice is famous throughout the world, and people also call it the “Floating City”.

The world is not hungry, but it is thirsty. It 36 (seem) strange that nearly 3/4 of the earth is covered 37 water while we say we are short of (短缺) water. Why? Because about 97% of water on the earth is sea water which we can’t drink or 38 (use) for watering plants directly (直接地) . Man can only drink and use the other 3% of the water that comes 39 rivers and lakes. And we can’t even use all of that, because some of it is 40 (pollute).
Now more water is needed. The problem is: Can we avoid (避免) a serious water shortage later on? First, we should all learn how 41 (save) water. Turn the tap off while 42 (brush) your teeth, washing your hands, doing the dishes, and so on. Second, we should find 43 the ways to reuse it. Scientists always make studies in the field. Today, in most large 44 (city) water is used only once and then runs to the sea or rivers. But it can be used again. Even if (即使) every large city reused 45 (it) water, still there would not be enough. From now on, everyone should save the water.

A.The poop.

We all know living things on the Earth cannot live without water. Water is very important to production. So it is very valuable. But how should we save water in our daily life?
First, turn off the tap when you don’t use water. For example, when you're brushing your teeth, you can turn off the tap. Next, use the used water to water plants. It can not only help save water but also be good for plants. Finally, have a shower instead of a bath because having a bath usually wastes a lot of water.
