DWe usually have a runny nose when catch-
ing a cold.Yet our parents tell us not to blow()
our nose so hard. Why is that?
2When we blow our nose very hard, the air
can move from our nose to our ears and cause prob-
lems. When we have a cold, the tube that connects
our nose to our ears gets smaller. So the air can't go
back to the nose and stays in the ear. This can hurt
the eardrum(鼓膜)and might make our ears ring
or even cause hearing loss.If the things from our
nose go into our ears with viruses and bacteria(
菌),it can cause ear infections(感染).
3If the air from the nose goes into the eyes,
it can make the pressure in the eyes go up.This
might cause different eye problems and even affect
how well we can see in the long run. This is why,
sometimes, when you blow your nose too hard,
both your eyes and ears may feel uncomfortable.
4To clear your nose in the right way, just
close one nostril()at a time and softly blow.
If your nose is blocked up,putting a warm towel
(毛巾)on your nose and forehead(前额)can also
help you feel better.
5Since your nose and throat are connected,
you can also try to get the mucus(黏液)out from
your mouth. It's a good idea to take a deep breath
with the nose, then cough quickly to get out the
mucus in your mouth.

First aid is the immediate(立即的)care a
sick or injured person gets.In some cases,it may
be the only care a person needs. Here are some
basic life-saving ways you can learn
.CPR is one of the most important first aid
measures(措施)that a person can know..When a
person's heart stops beating, doing CPR and using
an AED could restart his or her heart.AEDs are
put in many public areas. These first aid tools are
easy to use.
The colour of the blood and the way it is
leaving the body can let you know how serious the
problem is.Almost all bleeding can be controlled
(控制)with first aid.Washing the wound(伤口)
carefully with water and covering the wound with a
piece of cloth are the first steps you should do.
.Choking happens when a person's throat gets
blocked by food or other things. It's a serious event
that can even lead to death. The Heimlich Maneu-
ver is a series of actions that can help cough out the
thing a person is choking on.
.The first step to curing a burn is to stop the
burning process. If the burn isn't too serious,
washing the burned area with cool running water for
several minutes is necessary.Then apply(徐抹)
some medicine or creams on it to make it better.
16.What could you do if a person's heart stops
beating?
17.What's the Heimlich Maneuver?
18.What's necessary to do if the burn isn't too seri-
ous?
19.What do you think of first aid?In your words.
