And the following suggestions will help make the interview a success. We should do some research on the volunteer work. We can call the organization or visit its website to find out some information about it. It’s also important for us to think about what questions the interviewers may ask. It will help us to keep the interview going smoothly. When leaving for he interview, we must remember to take everything we need. And we’re supposed to be at the interview about 30 minutes early. It allows us to get ready for the interview. 5 Before we go into the interview room, we can take a deep breath to relax ourselves. When we hear someone ask us to go inside, we can enter the room. We should greet the interviewers with a smile and stand until they ask us to sit down. In answering questions, we had better be confident to show our talent and skills. It’s important to look into the interviewers’ eyes even if we are very nervous and shy. If we can’t understand the interviewers’ questions, it’s OK to ask the interviewers to explain them further. Before the interview is over, the interviewers usually invite us to ask some questions. We can ask a question about the work or the interview. For example, “What kind of training do you offer to volunteers?” We are supposed to thank the interviewers before we leave. With these suggestions, we will have a good chance of getting volunteer work. 7 1.How can we do research on the volunteer work? ______________________________________________________________ By Calling the organization or visiting its website. 2.Why are we supposed to be at the interview early? _______________________________________________________________ Because it allows us to get ready for the interview. 3.What can we do to relax ourselves before we go into the interview room? _______________________________________________________________ Take a deep breath. 4.What should we do if we can’t understand the interviewers’ questions? _______________________________________________________________ Ask the interviewers to explain them further. 5.What question do you want to ask the interviewers before the interview is over? The seals were hunted and sold, but have now been saved and marked for future protection. A fishery law enforcement ship arrived at the sea area near Dalian in the morning, carrying the spotted seals. The seals were let go free one by one into the sea. They swam freely in the water, returning to their natural home. 9 Spotted seals are nationally protected animals in China. They are the only kind of seals that can breed(繁殖) in Chinese waters. Like migratory(迁徙的) birds, they appear around October every year in Liaodong Bay,and take the long journey back to the Northwest Pacific in May after breeding. They are often considered as the “panda of the sea”. Thanks to China’s top-class national protection in recent years, the population of spotted seals in Chinese waters has reached around 2,000, while the global population is between 400,000 and 600,000. Studies have shown that these 2,000 spotted seals are of great importance for the study and research on spotted seals. To protect this rare animal and its ecological environment, the Liaoning Dalian Spotted Seal Wetlands were set up in 1992. In January 2002, they were included in the List of Wetlands of International Importance. Covering an area of 560,000 hectares with a coastline of about 370 kilometers, the wetlands are rich in biological resources. They have become home to nationally protected animals such as the spotted seal, finless porpoise, killer whales, false killer whales, common dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, and East Asian river dolphins. Since 1992, researchers in Dalian have successfully saved 388 spotted seals and put 299 of them back into the wild. 1.Where were the 23 potted seals put back into the sea? ____________________________________________________________ Off the coast of Dalian in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province. 2.What is the other name of the spotted seal? ______________________ The panda of the sea. 3.With China’s protection, what has happened to the spotted seals in Chinese waters? ________________________________________________________________________ The population of spotted seals in Chinese waters has reached around 2,000. 4.What does the underlined word “they” in Paragraph 5 refer to (指的是)? __________________________________________ The Liaoning Dalian Spotted Seal Wetlands. 5.As a student, what can you do to protect wildlife? ________________________________________________________________________ We can join the local activities and raise money for groups to protect wildlife. 12 Passage 3 [传统文化——毛笔的历史] In 223 BC Meng Tian(蒙恬) led the army in a war against the Chu Kingdom. In those days, people wrote on silk with a kind of stick pen. The stick pen was very hard and made writing very slow. Meng Tian had to often write a great number of reports about battlefield situation to the Qin ruler. He was frustrated(沮丧的) with the difficulty of writing, so he decided to make improvements. Between battles, Meng enjoyed hunting. One day, Meng hunted a wild rabbit. It was fat and heavy and its tail left a trail(痕迹) on the ground. 13 Meng suddenly had an idea. He immediately tied the rabbit’s tail to a stick and tried writing with it. But the rabbit’s hair was too oily(多油的) to hold the ink. Meng felt very sad and threw his “rabbit hair brush pen” away into a hole in the rocks. However, Meng Tian couldn’t accept the failure and continued to spend time wondering how to improve the brush pen. A few days later, he was having a walk outside for some fresh air. By chance, he found again the rabbit hair brush pen that he had thrown away. He picked it up and found that it had changed and was now soft and wet—holding water. Meng Tian got inspiration at once. He put the rabbit hair brush pen back in the ink and found it worked beautifully on silk. 1.What did people write with in 223 BC? ____________________ A kind of stick pen. 2.What was Meng Tian’s hobby between battles? _________ Hunting. 3.How did Meng Tian feel when he failed to write with the rabbit’s hair? ____________ He felt sad. 4.Did Meng Tian succeed in making the brush pen at last? ___________ Yes,he did. 5.What do you think of Meng Tian? Why do you think so? ________________________________________________________________________ _______________________________________________________________________ I think he is careful and smart. Because he found the rabbit’s tail left a trail on the ground, and then he managed to make the rabbit hair brush pen. 15 Passage 4 [沟通与交流——观点看法] If you have a chance to learn by yourself, what might you do? Perhaps you choose to practice football skills; you would prefer to discuss something together; and you might just read. This is the most important thing of “unschooling”. It is also known as “natural learning” or “independent learning”. For this kind of educational practice, people think differently. Here are their comments (意见). 16 Know More Schooling is education that children receive at school. Home schooling is the practice of educating that children learn at home with a parent or a tutor. Unschooling is an educational practice that allows children to decide how, what and where they want to learn. 17 Agree Independent learning teaches children to be responsible for themselves. With no teacher around, children must manage themselves, and this is a really important skill for later life. Unschooling allows children to learn what they are really interested in. If learning is enjoyable, it’s more successful. Very young children learn in a natural way. Without being taught, they know colors and voices, they learn smiling and walking. Why shouldn’t people continue to learn like this? Unschooling gives children more time for sports, volunteering and museum or park visits. They may meet different people who share their interests. 续表 18 Disagree Unschooling requires parents’ support and attention. They need to create a learning space that excites children and remind them of their daily routines. Teachers can push children to learn what they don’t enjoy but can be important later in life. Unschooling sounds too good to be true. It can be helpful when children are very young. But it puts too much pressure on children because they can learn difficult subjects easily only with teachers’ help. Unschooling happens at home, so children could have less contact with others at their age. This means they could end up becoming shy. 续表 19 When deciding how you are going to learn,it’s necessary to think about which works. Choose what is suitable for you and what can have a positive influence on your growth. 1.What is the most important thing of unschooling? __________________________________________________________________ It allows children to decide how, what and where they want to learn. 2.Whose support and attention do children need when they experience unschooling? _____________________________________________ They need their parents’ support and attention. 3.How can children become successful in learning? ________________________________________________________________________ ___________________ By learning what they are really interested in./They can learn what they are really interested in. 20 4.Why are children under too much pressure from unschooling? ________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________ Because they can’t learn difficult subjects easily without teachers’ help./Because they can learn difficult subjects easily only with teachers’ help. 5.If possible, what kind of educational practice would you like to choose? Why? ________________________________________________________________________ __________________________________________________________________ Schooling. Because school teaches the importance of timekeeping and discipline, which prepares me for future life and work.(答案不唯一) 21 Passage 5 (2025 长沙) [个人经历— 哲理感悟] One recent weekend, I decided to learn how to make jiaozi with my grandmother. I thought it would be fun and easy at the very beginning, but soon it came to me that it wasn’t as simple as it looked. At first, I didn’t pay attention to the sharp (锋利的) knife while cutting vegetables. My finger got cut because of my carelessness. Luckily, it wasn’t serious. Grandma was nervous, and quickly helped me clean the cut. “My poor little girl! Be careful next time!” said Grandma softly. Through the painful lesson, I learned the hard way that safety should always come first. 22 After that accident (意外), I continued working with Grandma. We made the dough (面团), mixed the filling, and started shaping the dumplings. However, I kept making mistakes. Some of my dumplings were too thick, others were not properly sealed (封闭), and some even had too much filling, making them difficult to close. It was so discouraging, but Grandma kept encouraging me. Until noon, we had a plate full of dumplings— some are perfect, and some are a bit messy. Dad ate my ugliest dumpling first. “Tastes better than it looks!” he laughed. Mom encouraged me, “They’re the most delicious dumplings I have ever had. I am so proud of you!” Now I understand that making jiaozi isn’t just about the final product; it is about learning patience, having fun with my family, and improving through mistakes. Mistakes aren’t signs of weakness. Instead, they should be viewed (看待) as stepping stones to achievements. 1.What did the writer think of making jiaozi at the very beginning? _______________________________________________________________________ The writer thought it would be fun and easy at the very beginning. 2.What happened to the writer’s finger because of her carelessness? ________________________________________________________________________ It got cut. 3.Did the writer give up making jiaozi after the accident? ________________________________________________________________________ No, she didn’t. 4.How do Mom’s words sound? ________________________________________________________________________ Mom’s words sound encouraging. 5.What does the writer view mistakes as? ________________________________________________________________________ The writer views mistakes as stepping stones to achievements. 25 26 $
