Key structure:  by+past time+past perfect tense e.g. By the time police officers announced that the story was a hoax, thousands of people had left their homes. Teaching Steps 【教学过程】 ★Step 1 Leading in 【新课导入】 1.Greeting 2.Warming-up ①The teacher tells about his/her April Fool's Day story. ②Get the students to tell their stories about their April Fool's Day. ★Step 2 Cooperative inquiry 【合作探究】 1.Finish the task in 2a Show a few pictures of April Fool's Day.Tell the class about the origin and customs of April Fool's Day. play jokes on sb.,be fooled 2.Finish the task in 2b ①Teach the students how to read quickly.Read the first or last sentence of each paragraph quickly and get to know the main idea of the passage. ②Read the passage in 3-5 minutes. Finish the task in 2b. Find the main idea of each paragraph. 3.Finish the task in 2c ①Read the questions in 2c.
