(2025·全国二卷)Kathy Ho teaches high school inside Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford ( LPCH).“Sometimes I don't like saying that I'm a teacher,”says Ho.“People get in their minds an idea of what teachers do,but that's not really what it is here.”
“Here” is room 386,where each year, about 500 LPCH patients also become students. The hospital school is free of parents, doctors, and medical procedures. It's a place of learning.About half of Ho's students stay for a week or less;others are there for more than a year. Most of Ho's students will recover, which means that preparing them to return to school is an increasingly important component of care.
Still,in room 386,academics don't come first.Physical health and mental health are the priority.“If you're scared about something and thinking only about that, there's no way you're going to be able to learn,”Ho says.“I'm a coach,an adviser, and a comforter, and that's what it means to be a hospital teacher.”
There are up to 30 students at any given time in Ho's class. She generally works with their regular teachers to get lessons and tests being used at their home schools. Some teachers don't give the kids any assignments;they express sympathy instead.“I feel like it is a disservice to the kids,” Ho says.“They think their teachers don't care about their schoolwork.”
Ho recognizes the psychological benefit of helping kids keep up with their peers (同龄人) outside the hospital.“I actually think the medicine is only a small piece for some problems,” says Julie Good, director of pain management services at LPCH.“It's about problemsolving around what it means to have a full life. Those kids have dreams.School can keep those dreams alive by giving kids a way to learn and grow.”

Scientists have discovered the world's largest known field of sea grass. They did it using videos shot by some sea animals. The work should help protect the sea grass, and also shows off a creative way to explore the ocean.
Sea grasses are flowering plants that normally grow in shallow waters near coasts. They grow in thick fields, known as meadows.Sea grass meadows help clean the ocean water, and provide food and home for many sea creatures.Importantly, sea grass meadows also help in the fight against the climate problems. That's because they store a great deal of carbon—the harmful pollution that's making global warming worse.Damaging (破坏) these sea grass meadows can release this pollution again, so it's important to protect them.
However, the ocean is too huge for humans to study all by diving (潜水).A team of scientists decided to have tiger sharks help with the research because tiger sharks live underwater, swim fast and spend a lot of time in sea grass meadows.
The researchers attached cameras and other trackers to seven tiger sharks. After catching the sharks, the scientists worked quickly to attach the equipment, then let them go again. The cameras were designed to fall off after a few hours and float (漂浮) to the surface.Tracking signals helped the scientists find the floating cameras and collect the videos the sharks had taken over the sea floor.Putting all the data together, the scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest sea grass meadow ever discovered.
The project is important for several reasons.Since sea grass is so valuable in fighting global warming, it's important to know where it is.Oliver Shipley, a leading scientist, says, “If we don't know where it is, we can't protect it.” The program also shows how useful large sea animals can be in helping to learn more about life under the sea.Shipley says animals like tiger sharks “...are going to take us to new places that we didn't know.”
8.What helped the scientists discover the largest ever field of sea grass?
A.Ships working underwater.
B.Videos taken by tiger sharks.
C.Images shot from passing planes.
D.Exploration of professional divers.
9.What does the underlined word “release” in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Let out. B.Cut down.
C.Clear away. D.Wind up.
10.What does paragraph 4 mainly talk about?
A.The ways of following large sea animals.
B.The steps of fixing cameras to the tiger sharks.
C.The unique functions of the signaltracking equipment.
D.The process of finding the world's largest known sea grass meadow.
11.What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A.Sea grass is of high value in research and business.
B.Humans have benefited from pollutionfree oceans.
C.Scientists have solved the climate problems effectively.
D.Ocean animals can help uncover more secrets of nature.

A new study suggests that jogging is one of the best exercises to reduce the effect of the socalled “obesity genes (肥胖基因)”.
The study researchers followed more than 18, 000 people who provided blood samples (样品).The volunteers reported whether they exercised every day, and if so, what type of exercise they preferred. The researchers then scanned the volunteers' genomes(基因组), looking for genes that were tied to an increased risk of obesity.Next, the investigators examined whether certain exercises seemed to reduce this risk.
Overall, people who reported taking any type of daily exercise were likely to have a lower BMI (体重指数) than those who didn't.But one exercise stood out as the one with the strongest antiobesity effect: jogging. The volunteers with obesity genes who jogged had a lower BMI than people with similar genetic risk who did not jog.
But for those who loathe jogging, don't fear: Five other types of exercise were also tied to a lower BMI among individuals at risk of obesity. These included mountain climbing, ballroom dancing and walking.
Interestingly, several other types of exercise failed to reduce the genetic risk of obesity. These included riding bikes, stretching (伸展) exercises and swimming. The findings don't mean that these exercises can't help with weight control. It's just that they don't seem to reduce the genetic effect on weight gaining.
There could be several reasons for this. The researchers noted that, for the average Joe or Jane, riding bikes and stretching exercises require less energy than the exercises that were tied to a lower obesity risk.In addition, exercising in water may increase appetite (食欲).
12.What does the underlined word “loathe” in the fourth paragraph mean?
A.Dislike. B.Discover.
C.Demand. D.Develop.
13.What exercise has the least effect on those with obesity genes?
A.Mountain climbing.
B.Ballroom dancing.
C.Running slowly.
D.Riding a bicycle.
14.What can we infer from the text?
A.Your obesity is completely unchangeable.
B.Riding bikes doesn't help one keep healthy.
C.Swimming may make a person eat more food.
D.Stretching exercises are popular among adults.
15.Which of the following is the best title?
A.Swimming Makes You Fatter
B.Genes Contribute to Gaining Weight
C.Daily Exercise Lowers One's BMI
D.Jogging Fights Against Obesity Genes

My wife and I wanted to share our new home with family and friends by hosting a small gathering in the early summer. She had prepared lots of snacks, while my job was to have the backyard in order.
There was plenty of space for the kids to run and play. There was just one thing I hadn't counted on:My brother chose to bring his dog Toby,a 50pound ball of fire.Though friendly,he could easily knock over my niece's small boys and my sixmonthold granddaughter. So,when my brother showed up,I asked him to watch Toby and keep him outside.
My plan was working out just fine.Toby was using up his energy by running back and forth in the backyard and giving the kids plenty of room.Unexpectedly, after supper, the weather changed. It started to rain and everyone went indoors.
It was an awkward moment.I didn't want Toby to be running around in the house, and my brother wasn't happy with driving home with a wet dog.Eventually,my brother decided to leave rather than force the issue.
A few days passed, and I hadn't heard anything from my brother.I texted him and expressed wishes for him to come out again. His reply came as a surprise—a shock, actually:“Not a chance.”Clearly,he was unhappy over the way we had parted. After all,I had left him little choice.Well,he'll get over it,I reasoned.
Two months passed. My wife suggested I get in touch with my brother, but I resisted, thinking he should call first. However,my conscience (良心) kept bothering me.I tried to put myself in my brother's shoes. He was facing health issues and his wife of thirtyfive years had passed away a few months earlier.Toby was his constant companion, the one who kept him going.

根据第二段中的“‘Here’is room 386,where each year,about 500 LPCH patients also become students...Most of Ho's students will recover”可知,LPCH的病人会成为学生,且绝大多数学生会康复。
根据第三段中Ho对自己工作的描述“I'm a coach,an adviser,and a comforter,and that's what it means to be a hospital teacher”可知,Ho既是教练,又是导师和安慰者,由此可见,Ho在工作中要扮演很多不同的角色,故选D。
根据画线词所在句“I feel like it is a disservice to the kids”和下一句“They think their teachers don't care about their schoolwork”可知,it指代的是一种会让学生感到老师不关注他们学业的行为。结合上文中的“Some teachers don't give the kids any assignments;they express sympathy instead.”
根据最后一段中Good所说的“It's about problemsolving around what it means to have a full life. Those kids have dreams.School can keep those dreams alive by giving kids a way to learn and grow”可知,医院学校让生病的孩子们拥有充实的生活,给他们提供了学习和成长的途径,让孩子们的梦想得以延续。

根据第二段“Importantly, sea grass meadows also help in the fight against the climate problems. That's because they store a great deal of carbon—the harmful pollution that's making global warming worse.(重要的是,海草草场也有助于对抗气候问题。这是因为它们储存了大量的碳——这种有害的污染正在加剧全球变暖。)”以及画线词后文“this pollution again, so it's important to protect them”可知,破坏这些海草草场会再次释放这种污染,所以保护它们很重要。 故选A。
根据第四段“The researchers attached cameras and other trackers to seven tiger sharks. After catching the sharks, the scientists worked quickly to attach the equipment, then let them go again. The cameras were designed to fall off after a few hours and float (漂浮) to the surface.Tracking signals helped the scientists find the floating cameras and collect the videos the sharks had taken over the sea floor.Putting all the data together, the scientists learned that the waters around the Bahamas are home to the largest sea grass meadow ever discovered.(研究人员在七只虎鲨身上安装了摄像头和其他追踪器。
根据最后一段“The program also shows how useful large sea animals can be in helping to learn more about life under the sea.Shipley says animals like tiger sharks ‘...are going to take us to new places that we didn't know.’
根据最后一段中的“In addition, exercising in water may increase appetite.”

选项E中的“adults”“physical health benefits”与下文“adults 55 and older”“had better memory and maintained overall health longer”呼应。
选项C“志愿服务对儿童和青少年有终身影响”既点明本段对象(kids and teenagers),又与下文“These effects aren't just shortterm but...in the years to come.”

We are to meet at the school gate at eight on Saturday morning, where a bus will be waiting to pick us up.We will be dropped near the Minghu Reservoir outside the city.Because we have to walk a long way, you must wear a pair of strong and comfortable shoes. In addition, remember to bring some water and snacks in case you feel thirsty or hungry.Pay attention to safety on the way.
If you can accept our invitation, we will all be very delighted.

I realized it was me who was at fault. As I reflected on what had happened that evening, shame washed over(情绪突然而深刻地袭来) me.My brother, already burdened with (被……困扰) grief and loneliness, had only sought companionship in Toby, while I had treated them both as inconveniences.Instead of finding a compromise by setting up a space indoors for the dog,I had prioritized (优先处理)my own comfort over his feelings. The thought of him spending these months being isolated filled me with deep regret.Seeing this,my wife decided to do something,so she baked some biscuits for me to bring to my brother.
With the biscuits my wife had made,I arrived at my brother's door.Hesitating,I raised my hand to knock,my heart pounding with uncertainty. When the door opened,my brother's eyes widened in surprise. Before he could speak,I handed him the biscuits, saying sorry to him sincerely. The stiffness in his expression softened slightly. It was at this moment that Toby bounced over, wagging his tail merrily (高兴地).A faint smile touched my brother's lips, which spread into a brilliant smile. The next few hours witnessed us taking a walk outside and talking openheartedly(善良诚恳地).
