The boy from North Carolina is sharing his love of books by giving them away. When Cameron heard about a family who lost everything in a house fire, he was looking for a way to help them. He was sad that all of their books were destroyed. That’s when he created his program, which gives books away to people in need. Cameron’s program collects books for young people of all ages and reading levels. He collects books for kids who are blind or with low vision, too, because he wants everyone to have books. Cameron knows that books can help kids think about their future. They do this by helping kids dream about what they might be when they grow up. Learning about new things can give kids new interests. Six years later, Cameron is still giving away books. Many of the books he gives away were given to him by others, but Cameron’s grandmother also shops for books that don’t cost a lot. She buys books that are new or that look new. In addition to working with schools, Cameron and his grandmother give books to children in places near their home, such as hospitals, libraries, and day camps. Cameron wants to keep his program going and growing. Over the past six years, he has given away more than 3000 books. He has also won many prizes for his work. His program has grown over the years, too. Last Christmas, Cameron was able to give away toys besides books. Cameron Payne is making a difference in kids’ lives by giving away the things he loves. Over time, the building had different uses, but today, it is part of a public performing arts campus called Strathmore — complete with a nearby concert hall seating nearly 2,000 people — that has developed around that first building. Jazz singer Christie Dashiell first came to Strathmore through its artist-in-residence program. Each year, this program selects six musicians between 16 and 32 years old and helps them with lessons, performances, and career advice. “I left college having so much music,” Dashiell says. “I had written so much music and I had practiced so much music. But I didn’t know what an artist was and what life looked like.” At Strathmore, Dashiell learned how to perform on stage, promote her music online, and plan concerts. And of course, she worked with other musicians to write songs and put on shows. It’s where Dashiell says she began to find not only her vocal talents, but the unique sonic signature that defines and distinguishes (区分) a jazz artist: her sound. Dashiell gave several concerts at Strathmore. In 2016, she released her first album (专辑) in its small music room. Later, when she created her second album, Journey in Black, she performed in a bigger venue at Strathmore. Journey in Black, which came out in late 2023, tells stories of love, loss, joy and friendship — all of us can relate to that. It combines jazz with gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. That recording has been nominated (提名) for the Grammy Award for best jazz vocal album. It is her first Grammy nod. “It feels good to be recognized in this way,” Dashiell says. “Very few artists are making music with the purpose of being nominated for a Grammy. That’s definitely not where I was coming from when I was making this music. I just wanted to make music that was honest and true in a way.” 24.What is a purpose of the artist-in-residence program at Strathmore? A. To explore the century-old building. B. To build a well-developed training system. C. To offer practical education on music. D. To select winners in a music competition. 25.After leaving college, Dashiell felt a sense of ______. A. loneliness B. uncertainty C. confidence D. satisfaction 26.What can be learned about the album Journey in Black? A. It came out in 2016. B. It mainly tells about love. C. It is widely relatable. D. It is Dashiell’s first album. 27.What does Dashiell think is more important for her? A. Producing heartfelt music. B. Getting a nomination for best singer. C. Winning a Grammy Award. D. Releasing albums as soon as possible. C Have you wondered how your body knows when to wake up or why you need to go to the toilet less at night? Circadian rhythms use the sun to help your body to run on time. “Circadian rhythms” is another name for body clocks. They are controlled by a small part of the brain called the hypothalamus (下丘脑) and they let the body know when to do things like eat, sleep and go to the toilet. Circadian rhythms repeat every 24 hours and almost every living thing has them. They tell animals the best time to hunt, for example, and plants when to flower. Circadian rhythms are influenced by light. When the sun shines through the window in the morning your body clock tells you it’s time to wake up. When it’s dark your body feels sleepy. Good-quality sleep lets your brain recharge and replace important hormones (荷尔蒙) to keep you healthy. Not listening to your body clock, such as going to bed late, can mess with your sleep cycle and make you feel tired and easy to get angry the next day. Circadian rhythms also affect energy, digestion (消化) and body temperature. In fact, scientists have found that they help our whole body run smoothly. Swathi Yadlapalli is a scientist who studies how people grow and develop. She says, “Almost every part in the human body has a circadian clock.” Circadian rhythms are written into people’s genes (基因), which are the body's instructions for how to develop and grow. We can’t change them but we can listen to what they are telling us. The Sleep Charity, which helps people to sleep better, recommends sticking to regular sleep patterns. So whether you are used to staying up late, or getting up early, try going to bed and getting up at the same time every day. It also suggests getting lots of natural light in the morning. Even if the sky is cloudy and grey, the natural light can reset your body clock and make you feel more awake. 28.Which part of the brain controls circadian rhythms? A. The hormone system. B. The hypothalamus. C. The digestive system. D. The gene center. 29.What is the function of circadian rhythms? A. They help plants get sunlight more easily. B. They regulate the hypothalamus to work faster. C. They control the movement of main parts in the body. D. They tell living things when to perform certain activities. 30.What can be inferred about natural light? A. It makes people feel sleepy at night. B. It has no effect on hormone production. C. It sometimes influences circadian rhythms greatly. D. It helps reset the body clock even on cloudy days. 31.What does the author suggest doing? A. Stopping staying up too late. B. Getting up early the next day. C. Having a fixed sleep routine daily. D. Listening to music before sleeping. D Every year, the Nobel Prize is given to the greatest minds in the world. Their work helps all people and makes the world a better place. This year, the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine was given to three great scientists. Their long-term research has given the world a new way to fight diseases. They are Mary E. Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell from America, and Shimon Sakaguchi from Japan. They find a special kind of cell (细胞). These cells are like the “police” in our body. They help the system know “us” and stop it from fighting us. This is very important. Without these “police” cells, our body may get ill. A long time ago, people think this system only works in one place in our body. But Shimon Sakaguchi does not think so. In 1995, he finds these “police” cells. He calls them regulatory T cells. At first, many people do not believe him. Then, in 2001, Mary E. Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell find a key gene (基因). They call it Foxp3. They find that if this gene is not good, people can get very ill. Two years later, Shimon Sakaguchi shows that this Foxp3 gene is very important for the “police” cells to work well. The work of these three scientists helps many sick people. Now, doctors are thinking of new ways to help people with some long-time illnesses. They can use these “police” cells to make the body’s system better. This can also help people after an organ transplant (器官移植). Their finding is a big change in how we see our body. 32.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph? A. To introduce the topic of the Nobel Prize and this year’s winners. B. To explain how the three scientists did their research. C. To tell the readers how to win a Nobel Prize. D. To list all the winners of the Nobel Prize this year. 33.What is the main job of the “police” cells? A. To fight all the small things. B. To help the system know “us”. C. To find people who are ill. D. To make new cells for the body. 34.What did Mary E. Brunkow and Fred Ramsdell find? A. The system in our body. B. A key gene called Foxp3. C. The first “police” cell. D. A new kind of small thing. 35.What is the most important message the writer wants to give to young students? A. Winning a Nobel Prize is the only sign of success. B. Teamwork is more important than having a dream. C. Great success requires a dream, hard work and working with others. D. Science is the most important subject to study. 第二节 (共 5小题;每小题 2.5 分, 满分 12.5分) A family is a place filled with love, care, and shared days. 36 They pick up their first words, understand what kindness means; and find comfort when things go wrong. Even as they grow older, family stays a steady support, cheering on their joys and standing by them through hard times. 37 When family members listen to a child’s worries or praise their small wins, it builds the child’s confidence little by little. Parents might read bedtime stories to teach new words, help with homework when it’s difficult, or talk about their day to encourage curiosity. This kind of support doesn’t just make kids better at school but helps them feel ready for future life. Families pass on traditions and teach good habits. Think about the special things many families do: making a favorite dish every holiday, telling stories about grandparents, or even having a silly rule for game nights. 38 Kids need to learn sharing toys with siblings or saying “sorry” when they’re wrong. All the practices help children feel connected to their roots. Families bond through small shared moments. Making family bonds stronger doesn’t need big plans. Something as simple as sitting down to eat dinner together works: putting away phones to talk about the day lets everyone feel heard. 39 For example, creating small, regular moments, like a weekly walk or watching a favorite show together, also helps. Family serves as the quiet base of a happy life. 40 All these are what keep families strong and warm for years. A. Big trips could bring families closer. B. Families support the growth of children. C. For children, it’s when they first learn. D. Parents prefer complex activities to simple ones. E. Another way is to set fixed time for a family activity. F. Families also teach kids how to get on well with others. G. It achieves this by helping growth, keeping traditions, and sharing moments. 第三部分 语言知识运用(共两节, 满分 30 分) 第一节 (共 15小题;每小题 1分,满分 15分) Have you ever used a GPS navigation (导航) system? Although he had tried to exchange ideas with his classmates, he was afraid of being laughed at. Shy and reserved (内向的), Jack had always felt like an outsider, never quite fitting in. Fortunately, Mary, Jack’s science teacher in the new school, immediately noticed Jack and made up her mind to lend a hand. She used different methods to help Jack. Whenever Jack got into trouble in his speech, the warm-hearted and caring woman would wait patiently and smile at him encouragingly. Whenever possible, she was ready to praise his efforts and said to him, “You are so great!” The teacher hoped that such encouragement would make Jack feel more confident in overcoming his speech problem. Few days later, Mary announced that each student should present (展示) their answer to a problem in front of the class, in their unique way. Jack’s heart sank and the familiar fear and anxiety came back again. He kept thinking how he could possibly stand before his classmates to explain his answer clearly and whether his classmates would laugh at his speech problem again. He sat there, watching his classmates walk up to the front one by one. Most of them went through their presentation smoothly and went back to their seats with big smiles. 【语篇解读】本文为说明文。文章围绕昼夜节律展开,介绍了其定义、控制中枢、对生物的作用,以及受光照的影响,同时给出了遵循昼夜节律、改善睡眠的建议。 28.Which part of the brain controls circadian rhythms? 【语篇解读】本文是一篇说明文。主要讲述了今年诺贝尔生理学或医学奖的三位美日科学家,发现调节性 T 细胞及 Foxp3 基因的研究成果,该成果为疾病治疗和器官移植提供了新方向。 32.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph? A. A. But he was very worried about his speech problem that had often brought about laughter from his former classmates. However, Jack felt anxious while waiting for his turn. 注意:1.续写词数应为150个左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Finally, he heard Mary call his name and was invited to the front. _______________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ When Jack finished his presentation, everyone smiled and cheered for him.________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ ____________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】【参考范文】 Finally, he heard Mary call his name and was invited to the front. Jack stood up slowly and edged towards the front, his hands trembling. His classmates looked on, ready to see what was in store for Jack. He stood there tongue-tied with his face turning pale. When he looked around the classroom, Mary was just smiling at him encouragingly. So Jack took a deep breath and concentrated on his presentation. Words flowed from his lips, despite some pauses and repetitions. He even added gestures to better express himself. It seemed that confidence had found him. When Jack finished his presentation, everyone smiled and cheered for him. The applause washed over Jack, and with it came a wave of confidence. His grateful eyes met Mary’s, her smile now a symbol of his journey to self-assurance. No longer defined by being shy and reserved, Jack felt a sense of belonging. Where once his shyness had cast a shadow over his identity, it was now just another detail of who he was-a young man with the heart of a lion, fearless of the roar of his challenges. 第1页 共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
