When Elise inherited her grandmother’s bamboo-weaving workshop in a small rural town, she had no intention of keeping it. The 22 year-old design school graduate had dreamed of working for a famous fashion brand in the city. “Bamboo weaving is outdated,” she had told her grandmother before her passing. “No one buys those old-fashioned baskets and mats anymore.”
Returning for the funeral, Elise found herself drawn to the quiet workshop where dust covered the neatly stacked bamboo strips. As she ran her fingers over the smooth bamboo, childhood memories flooded back — sitting on her grandmother’s lap, watching skilled hands weave delicate patterns, listening to stories of how this craft had sustained their family through generations.
That evening, she discovered an old journal hidden in the loom’s drawer. The pages revealed her grandmother’s surprisingly innovative vision — sketches of bamboo products with modern designs: handbags, lampshades, and even bamboo-inspired jewelry. Next to each design were thoughtful notes about appealing to younger generations while preserving the craft’s essence, and how bamboo’s eco-friendly nature could make it relevant again.
Determined to honor this legacy, Elise embarked on the challenging journey of revitalizing the workshop. She spent months mastering basic techniques, enduring blistered fingers and frustration. She experimented with combining bamboo with leather straps, colorful fabrics, and metal clasps, sharing these innovative designs on social media. Despite early struggles with few orders and criticism from traditional villagers, Elise persisted.
Her breakthrough came when she began attending design fairs in nearby cities, where her unique products attracted attention from boutique owners and environmental advocates. The turning point arrived when a renowned fashion designer contacted her for a collaboration featuring sustainable materials. Soon, orders poured in from young consumers who appreciated the blend of tradition and modernity, and eco-conscious buyers who valued the zero-waste production.
A year later, Elise’s transformed workshop not only thrived commercially but also became a community hub where she taught local women bamboo weaving, providing them with sustainable livelihoods. Holding her grandmother’s journal, she realized tradition means letting it grow with the times.
24 Why did Elise initially refuse to take over her grandma’s bamboo-weaving workshop?
A. She wanted to stay in the city.
B She hated the boring work of bamboo weaving.
C. She thought the craft was out of fashion and unprofitable.
D. She didn’t have the necessary skills to run the workshop.
25. What did Elise discover in her grandma’s journal?
A. Records of the family’s hard times in the past.
B. Instructions on how to weave traditional bamboo baskets.
C. Complaints about young people’s ignorance of traditional crafts.
D. Drawings of innovative bamboo products and forward-thinking ideas.
26. Which words can best describe Elise?
A. Helpful and cautious. B. Traditional and honest.
C. Creative and persistent. D. Curious and dependent.
27. What can we learn from the passage?
A. Elise’s ideas came from a famous fashion brand.
B. Elise’s success helped preserve the traditional craft.
C. Elise’s grandma had never left the small rural town.
D. Elise’s bamboo products became popular because of low price.

Few people doubt the value of developing students’ thinking skills. A focus on critical thinking is common in education. In the Australian Curriculum, critical thinking and creative thinking are known as “general capabilities”. The US has a similar focus through their “common core”.
Many approaches to developing critical thinking are based on Philosophy for Children. One strategy that has a large impact on students’ ability to analyze and evaluate arguments is argument mapping, in which a student’s reasoning can be visually displayed by capturing the inferential pathway from assumption to conclusion. This type of argument-based intellectual engagement can show high outcomes in terms of the quality of thinking in any classroom. Research also shows deliberate attention to the practice of reasoning in the context of our everyday lives can be significantly improved through targeted teaching.
Teachers at one high school in Australia, who have much training in critical thinking teaching methods, developed a task that asked students to determine Australia’s greatest sports person. Students needed to construct their own criteria for greatness. To do so, they had to analyze the Australian sporting context, create possible evaluative standards, explain and justify why some standards would be more acceptable than others and apply these to their candidates. They then needed to argue their case with their classmates to develop criteria that were solid, defensible, widely applicable and produced a choice that seized significant and relevant aspects of Australian sport.
Researchers looking at the gains made in a single term of teaching critical thinking with argument mapping said the critical thinking gains measured are close to those that could be expected to result from three years of undergraduate education. Students who are taught to think well also do better on subject-based exams and standardized tests than those who do not.
In terms of developing 21st century skills, which includes setting up students for lifelong learning, teaching critical thinking should be core business.
28. Which of the following can explain the underlined word “capturing” in Paragraph 2?
A. Blocking. B. Designing. C. Describing. D. Attracting.
29. What’s the purpose of Paragraph 3?
A. To acknowledge the teachers’ outcomes.
B. To emphasize the importance of critical thinking.
C. To construct the criteria for being great.
D. To present how to teach critical thinking.
30. What is the author’s attitude toward teaching critical thinking?
A. Doubtful. B. Supportive. C. Objective. D. Neutral.
31. What does this text imply?
A. Critical thinking should be valued in education.
B. Critical thinking methods should be improved.
C. Concepts of critical thinking aren't well received.
D. Researches on critical thinking deserve more attention.
D
The concept of “digital amnesia (健忘症)” has gained attention as smartphones and cloud storage become widespread. Coined by researchers at a German technology institute, the term describes a growing phenomenon: people are increasingly unable to recall information they rely on devices to store. A 2023 study tracking 2, 000 adults across five countries found that 71% could not remember their closest friends’ phone numbers, compared to just 12% in 2003 — before smartphones became mainstream.
This shift is not merely about memorization; it reflects a change in how we process information. Cognitive scientists explain that when we save a fact to a phone rather than committing it to memory, our brains engage in “transactive memory” — relying on external tools as extensions of our own cognition. While this frees up mental space for complex thinking, it also creates vulnerability (脆弱). For example, travelers who store directions exclusively in navigation apps often struggle to navigate manually if their devices lose power.
Critics argue that digital amnesia signals a decline in cognitive ability but this view oversimplifies the issue. A 2024 experiment at Stanford University showed that participants who used digital storage performed better on creative problem-solving tasks than those who memorized all information. The brain, it turns out, allocates resources based on utility: when information is easily accessible externally, it focuses on higher-order skills like analysis and connection-making.
However, relying too heavily on devices carries risks. Researchers warn that excessive dependence on digital storage may weaken our ability to form long-term memories, as the brain requires active rehearsal to consolidate information. This is particularly concerning for younger generations, who have grown up with constant access to digital tools. A teacher in Berlin reported that students often struggle to summarize readings because they habitually look up every detail instead of internalizing (内化) key ideas.
The solution lies in balanced reliance. Experts recommend "intentional memorization" for essential information — such as emergency contacts — while using devices for non-critical data. This approach leverages technology’s efficiency without sacrificing core cognitive skills. As one researcher noted, “The goal is not to reject digital tools, but to use them as assistants rather than replacements for our own memory.”
32. According to paragraph 1, what is the primary evidence for the phenomenon of “digital amnesia”?
A. 71% of adults now use cloud storage.
B. Most adults cannot recall their friends’ phone numbers.
C. It was coined by researchers at a German technology institute.
D. Smartphones have become widespread across all five countries.
33. What can we infer from the experiment mentioned in Paragraph 3?
A. Digital storage harms creative thinking.
B. Memorizing all information improves problem-solving.
C. People with digital amnesia have lower intelligence.
D External memory tools can benefit cognitive development.
34. Which of the following is correct according to the passage?
A. Digital amnesia is a dangerous mental disorder.
B. People should abandon digital tools because of digital amnesia.
C. Digital amnesia reflects the brain’s adaptive use of external memory tools.
D. Navigation apps are the main cause of people’s poor sense of direction.
第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)
根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Friendship is a cornerstone of human life, yet its importance is often underestimated. While we may feel an unlimited desire for connection, research indicates that our capacity for maintaining relationships is actually finite. ____35____ These studies have produced a wide range of estimates, from a few hundred to several thousand people. However, our core circle of trusted companions is significantly smaller, typically consisting of only 10 to 20 people. ____36____ This trend is concerning, as strong social bonds are strongly linked to better health and longer life.
____37____ Research offers practical guidance. Firstly, do not underestimate the value of casual acquaintances (熟人). In fact, these brief, positive interactions can already have a meaningful influence on our happiness. ____38____ A University of Kansas study quantified this, finding it takes approximately 50 hours to transition from acquaintance to casual friend, another 40 hours to become a “real” friend, and a total of 200 hours to form a close bond.
If building new friendships from beginning seems challenging, reviving old relationships can be a highly rewarding alternative. Reconnecting with old friends allows for the quick revival of past trust. ____39____ As a more unconventional approach, appropriate self-disclosure can also foster closeness, as sharing personal thoughts often increases likability and strengthens bonds.
The universal longing for connection suggests that many people are navigating life feeling isolated. The most straightforward step might be to simply reach out to someone around you.
A. So, what can one do to enrich a limited social life?
B. For those seeking deeper connections, investment of time is crucial.
C. Moreover, this trusted circle seems to be shrinking in size over the years.
D. At the same time, you gain new insights from each other’s recent life experiences.
E. Social scientists have employed various methods to measure social network size.
F. This method, though creative, might not accurately reflect the depth of these friendships.
G. Therefore, making an effort to reconnect can be a highly efficient way to build a reliable friendship.
第三部分 书面表达(共两节,32分)
第一节(共4小题;第40、41小题各2分,第42小题3分,第43小题5分,共12分)
阅读下面短文,根据题目要求用英文回答问题。
AI’s Biggest Threat: Young People Who Can’t Think
CEO Andy Jassy caused a stir last week with a memo to his employees warning that artificial intelligence could displace them. “We will need fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today, and more people doing other types of jobs,” he wrote. Nothing in his memo was shocking. Technological advances as far back as the printing press have removed some jobs while creating many others. The real danger is that excessive reliance on AI could give rise to a generation of brainless young people unequipped for the jobs of the future because they have never learned to think creatively or critically.
The brain continues to develop and mature into one’s mid-20s, but like a muscle it needs to be exercised, stimulated and challenged to grow stronger. Technology and especially AI can prevent this development by doing the mental work that builds the brain’s version of a computer cloud — a phenomenon called cognitive offloading. Growing research shows that handwriting engages parts of your brain that play a crucial role in learning and helps children with word and letter recognition. Taking notes by hand also promotes memory development by forcing you to synthesize (合成) and prioritize information. When you type away on a keyboard, on the other hand, information can go, as it were, in one ear and out the other. A study last year analyzed brain electrical activity of university students during the activities of handwriting and typing. Those who were handwriting showed higher levels of neural activation across more brain regions: “Whenever handwriting movements are included as a learning strategy, more of the brain gets stimulated, resulting in the formation of more complex neural network connectivity,” the researchers noted. Most students in college and many in high school take notes on laptops or tablets, when they take them at all. AI tools that summarize lectures and meetings may soon make note-taking old-fashioned. Students will likely retain less information as a result.
Why commit information to memory when ChatGPT can provide answers at your fingertips? For one thing, the brain can’t draw connections between ideas that aren’t there. Nothing comes from nothing. Creativity also doesn’t happen unless the brain is engaged. Scientists have found that “Aha!” moments occur spontaneously with a sudden burst of high-frequency electrical activity when the brain connects seemingly unrelated concepts. College and high-school students increasingly also use large language models like ChatGPT to write papers, perform mathematical proofs, and create computer code. That means they don’t learn how to think through, express or defend ideas. Nor how to construct arguments and anticipate the rebuttals (反驳). They offload these cognitive challenges to AI. Why hire a brainless bachelor’s degree holder for a rote job that a bot can do at lower cost and with no complaints?
40. What is the danger of overreliance on AI according to the text?
_____________________________________________________________________
41. Why does handwriting promote students’ cognitive development?
_____________________________________________________________________
42. Please decide which part is false in the following statement, then underline it and explain why.
According to scientific researches, “suddenly understanding” moments happen when people use AI to help with challenges.
_____________________________________________________________________
43. How do you use AI reasonably as a student? (In about 40 words)

24. Why did Elise initially refuse to take over her grandma’s bamboo-weaving workshop?
A. She wanted to stay in the city.
B. She hated the boring work of bamboo weaving.
【答案】24. C 25. D 26. C 27. B

Critics argue that digital amnesia signals a decline in cognitive ability, but this view oversimplifies the issue.
D. External memory tools can benefit cognitive development.

【38题详解】
根据上文“Firstly, do not underestimate the value of casual acquaintances. In fact, these brief, positive interactions can already have a meaningful influence on our happiness.(首先,不要低估点头之交的价值。事实上,这些短暂而积极的互动已经能对我们的幸福感产生有意义的影响。)”和下文“A University of Kansas study quantified this, finding it takes approximately 50 hours to transition from acquaintance to casual friend, another 40 hours to become a “real” friend, and a total of 200 hours to form a close bond.(堪萨斯大学的一项研究对此进行了量化,发现从熟人到普通朋友大约需要50小时,再到“真正的朋友”还要40小时,而形成亲密关系总共需要 200 小时。)”可知,下文在讲“需要多少小时”,说明空处应该在讲“时间投入很重要”。B选项“For those seeking deeper connections, investment of time is crucial.(对于那些寻求更深层次关系的人来说,时间投入是至关重要的。)”中investment of time对应下文的50 hours/another 40 hours/200 hours。故选B。
【39题详解】
根据上文“Reconnecting with old friends allows for the quick revival of past trust.(与老朋友重新联系可以迅速恢复过去的信任。)”和下文“As a more unconventional approach, appropriate self-disclosure can also foster closeness, as sharing personal thoughts often increases likability and strengthens bonds.( 作为一种相对不那么传统的方式,适度的自我表露也能增进亲密感,因为分享个人想法往往会提升别人对你的好感,并加深彼此之间的联系。)”可知,上文提到和老朋友重新联系的好处之一是恢复信任,空处应该继续讲另一个好处,形成并列。D选项“At the same time, you gain new insights from each other’s recent life experiences.(同时,你们可以从彼此最近的生活经历中获得新的见解。)”
_____________________________________________________________________
【答案】40. It could create a generation of young people who lack creative and critical thinking abilities and are unable to take on the jobs of the future.
41. It engages parts of the brain that play a crucial role in learning, helps students with word and letter recognition, and promotes memory development by forcing you to synthesize and prioritize information.
42. According to scientific researches, “suddenly understanding” moments happen when people use AI to help with challenges. According to scientific researches, “Aha!” or “suddenly understanding” moments happen when the brain connects seemingly unrelated concepts with a sudden burst of high-frequency electrical activity, not when people use AI to deal with challenges.
43. I use AI to look up basic information or sort out learning outlines, but I finish papers and problem-solving by myself. I also use AI to explore extended knowledge to enrich my thinking after independent study.

考查细节理解。由文章第二段中“Growing research shows that handwriting engages parts of your brain that play a crucial role in learning and helps children with word and letter recognition. Taking notes by hand also promotes memory development by forcing you to synthesize (合成) and prioritize information. (越来越多的研究表明,手写会调动大脑中在学习中起关键作用的部分,并帮助儿童识别单词和字母。手写笔记还能通过迫使你综合和优先处理信息来促进记忆力的发展。)”可知,手写能调动大脑中在学习中起关键作用的部分,帮助儿童识别单词和字母,还能通过迫使你综合和优先处理信息来促进记忆力的发展。故答案为:It engages parts of the brain that play a crucial role in learning, helps students with word and letter recognition, and promotes memory development by forcing you to synthesize and prioritize information.
【42题详解】
考查细节理解。由文章第三段中“Scientists have found that “Aha!” moments occur spontaneously with a sudden burst of high-frequency electrical activity when the brain connects seemingly unrelated concepts. (科学家发现,当大脑将看似不相关的概念联系起来时,会突然爆发高频电活动,“顿悟”时刻便会自发产生。)”可知,科学家发现,“顿悟”时刻会自发地出现,伴随着高频电活动的突然爆发,而不是当人们使用人工智能来帮助应对挑战时。故答案为:According to scientific researches, “suddenly understanding” moments happen when people use AI to help with challenges. According to scientific researches, “Aha!” or “suddenly understanding” moments happen when the brain connects seemingly unrelated concepts with a sudden burst of high-frequency electrical activity, not when people use AI to deal with challenges.
I use AI to look up basic information or sort out learning outlines, but I finish papers and problem-solving by myself. I also use AI to explore extended knowledge to enrich my thinking after independent study.
