Cooking omelets for a group often means standing over a pan, making them one by one-tiring and time-consuming. But chef Dan Pelosi has a clever solution: his diner-style recipe that serves six people in a very short time.
Following his speedy method, you’ll only need to call “order up!” once, with perfect results: the cheese stays melty, the broccoli remains crisp (脆的), the sausage is juicy, and the eggs are wonderfully soft and light.
Prepare Ahead for Convenience
To save time, you can get a head start the evening before. Build the omelets, cover the pan with plastic wrap, and freeze it. Before baking, remember to bring it to room temperature for even melting.
Ingredients
●1 pound sweet or spicy Italian sausage
●1 medium head broccoli, cut into small pieces
● Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
●3 tablespoons unsalted butter
●18 large eggs
●4 cups shredded (切成块的) cheddar cheese
Cooking Time
Prep time:22 minutes
Bake time:8 minutes
Instructions
First, preheat the oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit. Cook the sausage cut in pieces in a 10-inch pan until browned ( about 6 minutes ), and then add broccoli, salt, and pepper. Cook for 4 more minutes until the broccoli is crisp-tender, and move to a bowl. Next, beat 3 eggs with salt and pepper, cook in the pan with 1/2 cup of cheese, and slide the omelet onto a cutting board. Top with the sausage-broccoli mixture, roll it up, and place it in a baking dish. Repeat to make six omelets. Then cover their top with the remaining cheese. Bake for 8 minutes until warmed through, and serve immediately.
1. Why do we need to bring the pre-made omelets to room temperature before baking?
A. To shorten the total baking time.
B. To ensure the food material melt evenly.
C. To make the wrap easier to remove.
D. To keep the omelets from getting too cold.
2. What should be done right after the sausage is browned?
A. Move everything to a baking dish.
B. Cover the pan and cook for 4 more minutes.
C. Beat the eggs and pour them into the pan.

3. Who would find this text most useful?

In Agan Town, not far from Lanzhou in Gansu Province, Agan Photo Studio has been standing for 50 years. Through its window, the warm magnesium light still flickers, just as it did tens of years ago. For 44-year-old Wei Wei, this small studio is more than a workplace — it’ s a treasure from his father.
Wei’s childhood was closely tied to the studio. His father joined the state-owned studio in 1974. When Wei was little, he often stayed with his father, watching him mix chemicals, load film plates, and take photos with an analog camera (胶片相机). “On busy days, Dad would shoot and print over 100 photos,” Wei remembers. “He took pictures of workers’ smiling faces, children’s curious eyes, and labor models’ proud looks. I was eager to do the same — keep people’s special stories.”
As Wei grew up, digital photography became popular, and analog cameras fell out of use. But last year, after his father passed away, Wei decided to take over the studio. To his surprise, more and more tourists have come to the studio, drawn by nostalgia for the old days. Before developing the film, Wei always checks the negatives carefully, following his father’s old methods. He also reminds visitors to bring the film to room temperature first, a small but important detail.
Today, the studio’s walls are covered with pictures from different times. These photos not only hold the sweet memories of the people in the town but also see the changes of society. For Wei, running the studio is not just a family trade. It’s a way to keep real stories alive. In a fast-paced digital world, Agan Photo Studio gives people a chance to slow down, treasure the moment, and rediscover the unique charm of analog photography.
4. Why did Wei Wei want to do the same job as his father?
A. To help support his family together.
B. To carry on the family business as expected.
C. To keep meaningful moments in people’s lives.
D. To take over a state - owned studio for its survival.
5. What does the underlined word “ nostalgia” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. A longing for the sweet past.
B. An expectation for better life.
C. A curiosity about high technology.
D. A dislike for old-fashioned things.
6. What do the photos on the studio’s walls mainly symbolize?
A. Attractions for tourists and art lovers.
B. A collection of famous local figures.
C. Personal memories and social changes.
D. The technical progress of photography.
7. What is the best title for the passage?

Raising adolescent (青春期的) boys today is far harder than before — they are the first generation to grow up with social media. Many boys now feel lonely, isolated, and confused, struggling with developing the ability to express themselves in a positive way.
Christopher Pepper, a middle and high school educator, has spent years helping boys and their families. He points out that smartphones and video games have taken up much of teenagers’ time, reducing in-person interactions like hanging out or dating. This isolation makes it harder for parents to connect with their sons. Also, many boys feel anxious about social relationships, unsure how to interact with others without crossing lines.
Pepper shares practical tips for fathers. First, choose natural moments for conversations side-by-side activities like driving, walking, or playing basketball work well, as boys often open up while doing something active. Second, be honest and use storytelling. Sharing simple stories about one’s own experiences or a friend’s can help ease the embarrassment of tough topics. Third, encourage boys to speak up and listen actively. Let them know it’s okay to express emotions, and that showing vulnerability (脆弱) isn’t a sign of weakness.
It is significant for fathers to keep interacting with their sons, even when the boys seem to push back. Boys of this age still need guidance from caring adults. Without positive connections, some may turn to harmful groups for answers. By having open, regular talks, fathers can help their sons grow into confident, caring young men who know how to build healthy relationships.
8. Why is it difficult for parents to connect with their adolescent sons?
A. Boys are unwilling to share their feelings with parents.
B. Parents spend too much time on work and housework.
C. Electronic products reduce boys’ in-person interactions.
D. Boys are too busy with their after-school activities.
9. Which way of communication does Pepper recommend for fathers?
A. Sharing daily stories over the Internet.
B. Chatting casually while playing badminton.
C. Discussing serious topics at dinner.
D. Having a formal talk in the living room.
10. How can fathers make tough topics less awkward when talking to their sons?
A By using strict rule.
B. By avoiding personal stories.
C. By sharing their own simple stories.
D. By letting others handle the conversation.
11. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A. To explain social media’s effect on boys’ anxiety.
B. To show fathers’ important role in guiding teen boys.
C. To argue boys should handle tough topics alone.
D. To analyze the difficulties of raising adolescent boys.
【答案】8. C 9. B 10. C 11. B

On the outskirts of Beijing, a group of milu deer eat grass gently along the Yongding River, their children chasing each other and playing in the shallow water nearby. This peaceful and lively scene was once unimaginable, as the species had completely disappeared from Chinese soil over a century ago.
“Forty years ago, 22 milu deer were brought back to China from the United Kingdom, marking the official start of the species’ comeback journey. Through decades of careful artificial breeding (工繁育) and scientific reintroduction into the wild, their population has grown to over 14,000 today,” said Bai Jiade, a staff member from the Beijing Milu Ecological Research Center.
Back in the late Qing Dynasty, milu deer were already a rare treasure, restricted to the royal hunting park of Nanhaizi in Beijing. However, in the late 19th century, severe floods from the Yongding River breached the park’s walls, allowing the deer to escape. Unluckily, starving locals hunted many of them for food. What’s worse, in 1900, the remaining milu deer in the park were killed or taken away by foreign soldiers, leading to their dying out in China.
Thanks to continuous appeals and lasting efforts from conservationists, China successfully brought back 77 milu deer in three groups from the UK starting in 1985. Scientists have made great progress in disease control, breeding and genetics. They built a genetic resource bank to save diversity (多样性), took measures to prevent inbreeding and relocated deer to various regions to establish new herds. Milu deer are like “wetland engineers”: they feed on reeds and other plants, preventing overgrowth of key species, while their waste helps grow plants in water, keeping ecological balance.
Today, China has founded 95 milu deer reserves across 26 provincial-level regions. During an activity celebrating the 40th anniversary of their return, a Beijing parent named Li said, “My child was excited to see the deer up close and learned a lot about their important role in nature.” This successful conservation story has become a global model for protecting endangered species, proving that with continuous efforts, we can help lost wildlife make a glorious comeback.
12. What is the first paragraph mainly about?
A. The current living state of milu deer in Beijing.
B. The living habits of milu deer in the wild.
C. The ecological value of milu deer to wetlands.
D. The historical background of milu deer’s disappearance.
13. What made milu deer die out in China?
A. Inbreeding and rapid population drop.
B. Local hunting and foreign soldiers’ actions.
C. Wetland destruction and habitat loss.
D. Overhunting in royal hunting activities.
14. What did scientists do to protect milu deer’s genetic diversity?
A. They relocated deer to 26 provincial-level regions.
B. They founded 95 milu deer reserves nationwide.
C. They bred milu deer in the original royal hunting park.
D. They built a genetic resource bank of milu deer.
15. What is the author’s attitude towards China’s milu deer conservation?
A. Doubtful. B. Unclear.
C. Supportive. D. Opposed.

【答案】Dear Mike,
I hope you’re settling in nicely at our school! After thinking about your options, I strongly recommend the Paper-cutting Club.
As a foreign friend, you might find Chinese poetry hard to appreciate due to language and cultural barriers. But paper-cutting is a hands-on craft — you’ll learn basic techniques from experienced teachers, create works like flowers and animals, and don’t need advanced Chinese. It’s a fun way to experience traditional Chinese art, make friends with peers who share interests, and take home unique souvenirs.
Hope my suggestion helps!
Yours sincerely,
Li Hua

第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
There lived a twelve-year-old girl named Mary in a village near the sea. Though her family could hardly afford good art supplies, Mary loved painting and had a strong interest in painting the ocean’s beauty. She hoped that one day she could have her own art exhibition.
One day, Mary would receive a scholarship (奖学金) to a famous art school and have a chance to show their work in the city’s art gallery (美术馆). Determined to take the golden opportunity, she signed up immediately, and spent all her free time practicing painting the view of the sea and the coastal village life with her old brushes and remaining paints.
On the contest day, Mary confidently handed in her best painting — it was a bright ocean picture she had put all her heart into. She went home feeling very hopeful.
Weeks later, the results came out. Mary didn’t even get into the top ten. She was heartbroken and discouraged. Her parents tried to cheer her up, but it didn’t work. Sometimes, Mary would take her old brushes and paper to the beach, but she painted slowly and absent-mindedly, her head down — she looked so tired and disappointed, as if the ocean in front of her had lost its color.
One afternoon, an old woman named Ms. Evans walked past the beach and saw Mary painting alone in low spirits. No one knew that Ms. Evans had once been a painter. She gently walked over and started a conversation, and Mary opened up to her about her experience in the art contest.

__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】参考范文:
Ms. Evans listened patiently with a gentle smile. She praised Mary’s painting for its vivid love for the ocean and shared her own experience of failing art contests when young. “Your work has a unique warmth — don’t let a single loss hide that,” she said softly. She suggested Mary focus on the little moments she knew best, like fishermen returning at dusk or seagulls dancing over waves, as true feelings make art shine. Mary’s eyes lit up again, and she nodded firmly, feeling the ocean regain its color.
Months later, a new art competition was coming up in the town. Encouraged by Ms. Evans, Mary poured her heart into a painting of her village’s coastal life — sunlight on the waves, her parents mending nets, and children chasing seagulls. She submitted it without pressure, just wanting to share her world. To her joy, she won first prize! The judges praised her work for its authenticity and warmth. Mary realized art is not about winning, but about expressing what matters most. She kept painting, step closer to her exhibition dream.

A. A longing for the sweet past.
B. An expectation for better life.

A. Attractions for tourists and art lovers.
B. A collection of famous local figures.
C. Personal memories and social changes.
D. The technical progress of photography.

A. By using strict rule.

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Ms. Evans listened patiently with a gentle smile.
