I started running to spend time with my dad and help him lose weight. Then, in high school, I went out for track because I wasn’t good at baseball. I was a “back of the pack” runner, but running quickly gave me something to identify with, and offered a sense of community. I was completely absorbed in it. I love that everyone gets to take part in this sport, whereas in basketball or soccer, I rarely got playing time. Even as a slower runner, I ran in most of the meets. My first event was a five-mile road race. The ambulance was right behind me, which was a humbling (令人羞愧的) experience, but it was comforting that I wasn’t the only one in the very back. I think, today, there are more slower runners out there because no matter your pace, there is still a sense of progress and achievement. I improved a lot between my junior and senior year of high school and ran a 5K. Cross country was my sweet spot. I ran in college, and became a head cross-country coach at age 22, inspired by my own coaches. Growing up, coaches were my biggest influences, besides my parents. They’re still people I’m in touch with today. My first track coach made everyone on the team feel important, like we were part of a big family. Although I’m no longer on a track team, my teammates today are my kids since we take part in races. My son, daughter and I ran a marathon together. Running has strengthened my relationships outside of family, too. With coaching, I’ve been able to form stronger relationships with my runners on the course than in the classroom, since we’re all getting closer over the sport for hours every day. The nice thing about running is that there can always be new goals, and as everyone says, it’s about the journey, not the destination. 4. Why did the author start running at first? A. To join the baseball team. B. To become a future coach. C. To keep his father company. D. To train for track competitions. 5. What is the author’s view on slower runners in races? A. They can still get a feeling of pride. B. They make the sport less competitive. C. They need special medical support. D. They should avoid long races for safety. 6. What inspired the author to choose coaching as his job? A. The aim of training champion athletes. B. The experience with his own coaches. C. The encouragement from his parents. D. The recommendation from his college adviser. 7. What is the best title for the text? A. How To Become A Running Coach B. What Made My Running A Success C. What Shaped My Running Goals D. How Running Influenced My Life 【答案】4. C 5. A 6. B 7. 根据第一段“I started running to spend time with my dad and help him lose weight. (我开始跑步是为了陪伴爸爸,并帮他减肥)”可知,作者最初开始跑步是为了陪伴父亲。故选C项。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“I think, today, there are more slower runners out there because no matter your pace, there is still a sense of progress and achievement. (我认为,如今有更多跑得慢的人参与其中,因为无论你的速度如何,仍然会有一种进步和成就感)”可知,作者认为跑得慢的选手依然能获得成就感与自豪感。故选A项。 根据第三段“I ran in college, and became a head cross-country coach at age 22, inspired by my own coaches. C On Thursday, at its 20th regular meeting in India’s capital, a UNESCO committee decided to move China’s“Hezhen Yimakan storytelling”from the Urgent (急需的) Protection List to the World Representative List of Intangible (非物质) Cultural Heritage. In recognition of the great progress made in preserving this tradition, the committee also decided to include the protection program for Hezhen Yimakan storytelling in the Register of Good Protection Practices. This achievement marks a successful transition of a heritage project into the representative list. It’s also the first example of a project that has been transitioned and added to the Register of Good Protection Practices at the same time. China now has 45 projects included in UNESCO’s intangible cultural heritage lists, the highest number of entries of any country in the world. The Hezhe people live in the Heilong-Songhua-Ussuri-river region of northeastern China. With a population of just over 5,000, they are among China’s smallest ethnic (民族的) groups, Yimakan storytelling is a rich oral tradition that has been passed down through generations. It is performed in the Hezhe language. It mixes spoken stories with singing to share the history, hero tales, fishing and hunting life, traditions, and values of the Hezhe people. This tradition plays a key role in recording history, educating future generations, and providing fun. Since it was added to the Urgent Protection List in 2011, many have collaborated to help this tradition. Community members, artists, schools, cultural centers, and government bodies have all made efforts to make sure it stays alive and becomes better known. In December 2023, China sent a report to UNESCO about how this cultural heritage was being protected, and asked to move it to the Representative List. In December 2024, the committee reviewed and agreed with the report. They praised China’s efforts and encouraged people to keep doing and pass it on, stressing that the local community should take part in protecting it. 8. Why was Hezhen Yimakan storytelling moved to the Representative List? A. It is no longer at urgent survival risks. B. It has been popular in neighbor countries. C. It has made great achievements in protection. D. It has changed its form to fit modern times. 9. What is the key role of Yimakan storytelling? A. It keeps various dialects alive. B. It promotes the local tourism. C. It passes down history and values. D. It replaces local written records. 10. What does the underlined word “collaborated” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Observed actively. B. Worked together. C. Controlled seriously. D. Taught carefully. 11. What is the purpose of the last paragraph? A. To show the strict rules for listing heritage. B. To praise local communities’ protection efforts. C. To explain the process of China’s heritage application. D. To present UNESCO’s encouragement for China’s work. 8. C 9. C 10. B 11. Unlike common wearable smartwatches that are worn on the wrist, these fiber computers are placed all over the clothing. This creates a web that can collect more detailed data from the whole body. The fiber computer puts together sensors, a tiny computer chip, digital memory, Bluetooth parts, and a battery into one stretchy (有弹性的) fiber. This setup allows clothes to catch, store and send important health facts we normally lose. In the tests, scientists sewed four fiber computers into a shirt and a pair of pants, with one along each arm and leg. When working by itself, each fiber was about 70% correct in identifying exercises like knee bends. But when the fibers shared information with each other, their total correctness rose to almost 95%. This new tech will soon get a major real-world test. U. S. Army team members will wear special shirts with these fiber computers during a month-long trip to the Arctic. The tech has useful plus points. The fibers can be washed in a machine, feel comfortable, and are “almost impossible to notice” for the person wearing them. Made from a special plastic, they can be pulled over 60% longer without breaking the electronics inside. A senior research scientist, Karl Friedl, said this technology could be a real “game-changer”. He thinks it could one day work with AI to better watch over people’s health and keep them safe. This fiber computer is the final result of more than ten years of work. Earlier, scientists found ways to build electronics into threads, but the team had to find a new way to make them more complex while still staying stretchy. “We had to think of a whole new method. We also wanted it to be stretchy so it would match how normal cloth feels and moves. The mix of classical fibers and fabrics with computation (计算) and machine learning has only begun,” said Nikhil Gupta, an MIT student who helped write the study. 12. How is the fiber computer different from smartwatches? A. It is worn on the wrist. B. It is mainly designed for first aid. C. It tracks heart rates in time. D. It collects full-body information. 13. What made the computers’ correctness reach 95% in identifying exercises? A. Using advanced computer chips. B. Improving battery life. C. Sharing data among fiber computers. D. Making fibers machine-washable. 14. What does paragraph 5 mainly talk about? A. The advantages of inside electronics. B. The strengths of the new fiber computer. C. The challenges of making smart clothing. D. The technology’s limits in real-world use. 15. What is Nikhil Gupta’s attitude to the technology? A. Hopeful. B. Uncertain. C. Worried. D. Confused. D 13. C 14. B 15. 根据第二段中的“Unlike common wearable smartwatches that are worn on the wrist, these fiber computers are placed all over the clothing. This creates a web that can collect more detailed data from the whole body.(与佩戴在手腕上的普通可穿戴智能手表不同,这些纤维计算机被放置在衣物各处。这就形成了一张可以收集来自全身更详细数据的网络)”可知,纤维计算机与智能手表的区别在于它能收集全身的信息。故选D项。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段中的“When working by itself, each fiber was about 70% correct in identifying exercises like knee bends. But when the fibers shared information with each other, their total correctness rose to almost 95%.(当单独工作时,每根纤维识别屈膝等动作的准确率约为70%。但当这些纤维之间共享信息时,它们的总体准确率就上升到了近95%)”可知,纤维计算机之间共享数据,让动作识别准确率达到了95%。故选C项。 【14题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第五段中的“The tech has useful plus points. The fibers can be washed in a machine, feel comfortable, and are “almost impossible to notice” for the person wearing them. Made from a special plastic, they can be pulled over 60% longer without breaking the electronics inside.(这项技术有不少实用优势。这些纤维可以机洗,触感舒适,对于穿着者来说“几乎察觉不到”。它们由一种特殊塑料制成,拉伸长度超过60%也不会损坏内部的电子元件)”可知,该段主要介绍这款新型纤维计算机的各项优势。故选B项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中的““We had to think of a whole new method. We also wanted it to be stretchy so it would match how normal cloth feels and moves. The mix of classical fibers and fabrics with computation (计算) and machine learning has only begun,” said Nikhil Gupta(尼基尔·古普塔说:“我们必须想出一种全新的方法。我们还希望它具有弹性,这样就能和普通布料的触感和延展性相匹配。传统纤维面料与计算技术、机器学习的融合才刚刚开始。”)”可知,尼基尔·古普塔认为传统纤维与科技的融合才刚刚起步,暗含着这项技术未来还有很大的发展空间,由此可推断他对该技术的态度是充满希望的。故选A项。 How to Escape a Building Fire Fire safety in tall buildings is very important because fires here can be especially dangerous. ___16___ So, it’s hard for everyone to get out quickly in an emergency. Fires can also spread fast through stairs and air conditioning systems. Here are some ways to survive. Head to the nearest exit. If you’re at home, an exit could be a door, window, or even a fire escape ladder. If you’re in a public building, find the closest emergency exit. It is usually marked with an EXIT sign, a picture of a person running through a door, or both. ___17___ If you are unable to escape, go back into your room. Check the door for any signs of fire on the other side. First, feel the door and doorknob with the back of your hand. ___18___ Then, check around the door for signs of smoke or heat. If you notice red-hot ashes or black smoke coming from under the door, do not open it. ___19___ This will help reduce the spread of fire to your room if the fire manages to reach there as well as ensure that any fire that might be in your room does not escape and create a dangerous situation. Doors do an effective job at stopping fire, which is why fire departments recommend closing your bedroom door before you go to sleep. Do not use the elevator. You could get trapped if you decide to use it as your escape. Use the stairs to make your escape if you’re on the higher floor of the building, or wait for firefighters to assist you. ___20___ A. If smoke is present, stay low. B. If it feels warm or hot, don’t open it. C. Many people live or work in these buildings. D. They can operate the elevators with a special key. E. He was very quiet. He always wore the same dark blue jacket, even on warm days. Some kids began calling him “Blue Coat” when he wasn’t listening. I never said the name myself, but I didn’t try to talk to him either. He seemed different, and at that age, it was easier to just stay away from people who were different. Our English teacher, Mrs. Lewis, gave us a class project. We had to interview a classmate we didn’t know very well and then introduce them. She picked the pairs randomly (随机). I was partnered with Daniel. I felt really disappointed. My friend Sam saw my face and looked sorry for me. I thought working with Daniel would be boring and uncomfortable. Daniel just looked down at his desk when he heard the news. I waited as long as possible before doing the interview. One afternoon after school, I finally went to find him. He was by the bike racks (架子), bent down next to a broken bicycle. A younger student looked worried, standing beside him. Daniel’s hands were dirty, but he was repairing the bike chain. “You can repair bikes?” I asked, surprised. He looked up and gave a small, shy smile. “Yes,” he said quietly. That changed everything then. We sat on a bench to talk. I learned that his grandfather had a bike shop and taught him how to repair things. His grandfather didn’t just teach him how to repair bikes; he always told Daniel that true skill meant not only fixing what was broken, but also imagining how to make things better. Daniel’s dream, he shared with me, was to one day design bicycles that were safer, more comfortable, and kinder to the environment. His eyes shone as he described bikes that could help more people ride easily. The blue jacket was his grandfather’s old work coat. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ When I introduced my class project, I showed a photo of Daniel repairing the bike. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 The blue jacket was his grandfather’s old work coat. Daniel’s voice became happier when he talked about helping people fix things. He even wanted to fit together the bike parts he designed. To him, the jacket was a daily reminder of his grandfather’s hope — a quiet push to keep learning and making improvement. I realized the jacket wasn’t just clothes; it was a special reminder of his grandfather and his own skills. After the interview, I was getting to know the real Daniel. When I introduced my class project, I showed a photo of Daniel repairing the bike. I told the class about his talent and his dream. After that, my classmates saw him differently. He still wears the jacket, but now if something is broken, students say, “Go to ask Daniel.” I learned an important lesson: everyone has a special story and something they are good at. If you take the time to observe, you might find a great friend where you least expect it. 词汇激活 行为类 ① 修理:repair/ fix/ mend ② 意识到:realize/ be aware of ③ 展示:show/ display/ exhibit 情绪类 ①更开心:happier/ more delighted/ more cheerful ②希望,期待:hope/ expectation/ anticipation 【点睛】【高分句型1】I realized the jacket wasn’t just clothes; it was a special reminder of his grandfather and his own skills. B I spend my time coaching teenage cross country, watching students fall in love with the sport the way I did at their age. I improved a lot between my junior and senior year of high school, and ran a 5K. A. How To Become A Running Coach B What Made My Running A Success C. What Shaped My Running Goals D. How Running Influenced My Life C On Thursday, at its 20th regular meeting in India’s capital, a UNESCO committee decided to move China’s“Hezhen Yimakan storytelling”from the Urgent (急需的) Protection List to the World Representative List of Intangible (非物质) Cultural Heritage. B. D Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers have created a new and important fiber (纤维) computer that can be placed right into clothes, allowing regular clothing to keep an eye on health and even likely save lives in extreme conditions. A. Hopeful. B. Uncertain. C. Worried. D. Confused. How to Escape a Building Fire Fire safety in tall buildings is very important because fires here can be especially dangerous. Check the door for any signs of fire on the other side First, feel the door and doorknob with the back of your hand. ___18___ Then, check around the door for signs of smoke or heat. If you notice red-hot ashes or black smoke coming from under the door, do not open it. ___19___ This will help reduce the spread of fire to your room if the fire manages to reach there, as well as ensure that any fire that might be in your room does not escape and create a dangerous situation. E. Speak clearly as you describe where the fire is happening. F. Make sure your door remains closed but unlocked upon exit. In Senior 1, a new student named Daniel joined our class. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
