Douyin influencer Chen Jifang aged 70 has significantly received 3 million likes for her exercise video clips.
For Chen, her passion for exercising was born out of a need instead of a desire to become famous. According to Chen, her health had been poor and she even had to give up her job after giving birth to her daughter because her health was severely affected by the pregnancy (孕期). In 2018, following a physical examination, Chen was diagnosed (诊断) with a series of health issues. The doctor suggested that she exercise more to prevent her already poor health from getting worse. Therefore, an overweight Chen started with light jogging, but a fitness coach later advised her to improve her size and her knee before running. Because of this, Chen entered a gym for the first time on Dec 29, 2018. Then she hit the gym every day in 2019.
While most people would be concerned about having an elderly family member participate in such hard physical exercise in the gym, it doesn’t bother Chen. Her husband shows his support by doing most of the housework. Her daughter, on the other hand, helps to pick her gym wear.
Chen may be a star in her own right, but she is also just one of many senior citizens in China’s major cities who are accepting exercise enthusiastically. According to a 2019 Cheetah Mobile report on the fitness behavior of the elderly, nearly 90 percent of such people in China have fitness habits while 66.4 percent of them exercise almost every day. The report also notes that the traditional means for the elderly to stay fit, such as square dancing and tai chi, have been unable to meet the new needs of the fitness-addicted elderly population.
4. Why did Chen Jifang start to exercise at first?
A. To become a Douyin influencer.
B. To improve her poor health.
C. To follow the fitness coach’s advice.
D. To meet the new needs of the elderly.
5. What helps Chen stick to her exercise?
A. Suggestions from the coach.
B. Concerns about being old.
C. Eagerness to impress people.
D. Encouragement from her family.
6. What can we infer about elderly fitness in China’s big cities?
A. Elderly people have abandoned traditional fitness ways.
B. More elderly people are willing to try new fitness methods.
C. Fitness coaches are specially trained to serve elderly people.
D. The government has taken measures to support elderly fitness.
7. What’s the main idea of the text?
A. 70-year-old woman becomes a fitness influencer on Douyin.
B. How to keep healthy for the elderly in modern society.
C. An elderly woman’s fitness story reflects a social trend.
D. The traditional fitness ways for the elderly are changing.
C
For various purposes such as environment protection, pest management, and economic gains, humans often relocate animals and plants to new regions. However, when these non-native species (物种) break into their new environment, they become known as invasive (入侵) species, which in some cases may dramatically change the natural landscape.
Native species are part of an ecosystem through natural processes. Non-native or introduced species, on the other hand, are found outside their normal range due to human activity. While not all introduced species become invasive, those that do, negatively impact their new environment and other life forms. Often developing quickly due to the absence of natural enemies, these invasive species can outcompete and displace native plants and wildlife. As a result, they damage ecosystems by changing habitats, competing for resources, and introducing new diseases and is a possible risk to biodiversity
Human activities are the primary cause of invasive species spread, both intentionally and accidentally. Climate change may exacerbate the problem, allowing more species to spread further. Understanding new species’ behavior is important, followed by control measures if they become invasive. Stephanie Holt, a UK Biodiversity Training Manager at the Natural History Museum, says that climate change is likely to result in animals and plants moving around the world, but that it’s not always going to be a bad thing. “Species heading into the UK as a result of climate change need to be monitored in case they do become harmfully invasive — but not all of them will.” she says, “If we’re thinking about global species protection goals, not all species movement is a bad thing, as species adapt and change.”
As climates change, adaptive protection approaches are necessary to ensure biodiversity in the movement of species. Governments must play a role, and public awareness is also important in managing the spread of invasive species, as informed communities can contribute to early and quick action.
8. What is paragraph 2 of the text mainly about?
A. The benefits of introducing new species.
B. The role of native species in ecosystems.
C. The problematic nature of invasive species.
D. The effects of human activities on the environment.
9. What does the underlined word “exacerbate” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Shape. B. Put an end to.
C. Worsen. D. Bring back.
10. What does Stephanie think of species movement?
A. It is hard to control.
B. It is not always negative.
C It is driven by climate change.
D. It weakens the species’ adaptability.
11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Global Impact of Invasive Species
B. Invasive Species: Challenges and Solutions
C. The Role of Human Activity in Ecosystems
D. Invasive Species: A Global Economic Benefit
D
Imagine a school where students are taught by the best teachers in every subject, regardless of location. Imagine a school where students could go on safe field trips to the Amazon rainforest or Everest base camp. Well, such schools are already being built: in virtual reality.
Last year, Optima Academy Online, an all-virtual school, delivered courses that aim to improve the hearts and train the minds of young people. These courses are of different levels, attracting 170 full-time students from all over Florida. In the progress of home-schooling, students use headsets for about three hours a day for formal lessons and then do course work independently with digital check-ins.
Future versions of VR will doubtless be widely used in education, but the only questions are: for what purpose and at what speed? There are enough reasons to doubt whether VR schools represent the future of education. Sticking a child in their bedroom with a heavy VR headset fastened to their face and no physical social interaction with other kids will fill many of them and their parents with horror.
A recent report concluded that digital education could significantly improve the quality and equality of schooling systems. But if managed poorly, it could have the opposite effect, turning a digital divide into an educational one. There is growing evidence to suggest that is happening. In Mexico, only 24 percent of 15-year-old students in poor schools have access (使用) to a home computer for schoolwork compared with 87 percent in rich ones.
Used properly, technology can be great for enabling self-motivated students to access learning resources and connect with fellow students and teachers all over the world, says Beeban Kidron, a member of the UK’s Digital Futures Commission. The trouble is that Edtech is too often seen as a shiny new toy that will solve all problems and save money rather than being viewed as a different way to learn, she adds.
12. What’s special about the VR school?
A. It hires local experienced teachers.
B. It offers real trips to various places.
C. It provides rich online courses.
D. It requires fixed campus study.
13. What are people worried about with VR schools in Paragraph 3?
A. VR headsets are too expensive.
B. Students may lack in-person interaction.
C. VR tech is not good for education.
D. Teachers can’t track learning progress.
14. Students in Mexico are mentioned to show ________.
A. Mexican schooling quality has been improved.
B. local schooling systems are not fully developed.
C. technology gaps may cause education inequality.
D. family backgrounds shape people’s education views.
15. What does Beeban Kidron think of digital education?
A. It enriches learning. B. It’s irreplaceable.
C. It needs improving. D. It’s undervalued.

The frightening day of our diving test was here. Our parents thought we were lucky to have an Olympic-size swimming pool at the school. My mom stressed that the swimming pool was one of the best in our city. But I didn’t feel happy about it at all. Instead, I felt afraid of the swimming pool. It was mainly because I was terribly shy.
I was so shy that I always sat at the back of the room in class so I’d not be called upon to read. As for the present physical education class each Monday morning, I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.
Now, it was another Monday morning - the morning of our diving test. My blood ran cold when the teacher Ms. Robbins announced that we would be graded for our final on the most difficult dive- the jackknife. And she added, “This diving test is important. The one who fails has to spare time in the following Monday mornings to practice diving in this swimming pool and attend this test again.”
My body kept shaking with fear as the line to the scary diving board shortened. As I watched, each student seemed to perform the challenging dive effortlessly. And shortly I would have to attempt something that I had never even practiced before.
Then I remembered someone telling me that when you picture yourself doing a skill over and over, it’s just as effective as physically practicing that skill. So I watched carefully as each classmate jumped at the end of the board once, added a jump for height, folded their body in half to reach for their toes, and finally straightened out like an arrow for going into the water. After carefully watching for a while, I was actually in a state of surprise, because all of a sudden I realized that it was possible for me to perform these four steps of diving.
Eventually all classmates except me finished jumping. The teacher announced that it was my turn.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed.

B 5. D 6. B 7.

A It is hard to control.
B. It is not always negative.
C. It is driven by climate change.
D. It weakens the species’ adaptability.
11. Which of the following is a suitable title for the text?
A. The Global Impact of Invasive Species
B. Invasive Species: Challenges and Solutions
C. The Role of Human Activity in Ecosystems
D. Invasive Species: A Global Economic Benefit
C 9. C 10. B 11. B

根据第二段“Native species are part of an ecosystem through natural processes.
根据第三段中“Human activities are the primary cause of invasive species spread, both intentionally and accidentally.( 无论是有意还是无意,人类活动都是入侵物种传播的主要原因。)”以及划线单词句中“…allowing more species to spread further.(……使更多的物种得以进一步传播。)”由此可知,此处为气候变化可能会加剧这一问题。故可猜测划线单词exacerbate为“加剧”的意思,和C选项Worsen“使恶化”意思相近。故选C项。
【10题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“Stephanie Holt, a UK Biodiversity Training Manager at the Natural History Museum, says that climate change is likely to result in animals and plants moving around the world, but that it’s not always going to be a bad thing. “Species heading into the UK as a result of climate change need to be monitored in case they do become harmfully invasive — but not all of them will.” she says, “If we’re thinking about global species protection goals, not all species movement is a bad thing, as species adapt and change.”(自然历史博物馆的英国生物多样性培训经理斯蒂芬妮·霍尔特说,气候变化很可能导致动物和植物在世界各地迁移,但这并不总是一件坏事。
根据文章大意以及最后一段“As climates change, adaptive protection approaches are necessary to ensure biodiversity in the movement of species. Governments must play a role, and public awareness is also important in managing the spread of invasive species, as informed communities can contribute to early and quick action.( 随着气候的变化,有必要采取适应性保护措施来确保物种运动中的生物多样性。

C 13. B 14. C 15. A

A food festival
An annual food festival to promote food culture was held last weekend in our school. Before the festival, every one of us launched into setting up tents and posting our menus.
There's nothing better than the senses we experienced at a food festival — the rows of food trucks and tents as far as the eye could see, the rhythmic sound we heard from cooking, the smells of dozens of delicious food being prepared around us and of course the taste of everything we could stomach. However, what impressed us most was in fact the cultures behind the food vividly introduced by the cooks. Also, wonderful background music and colorful flags added to the pleasure of the occasion.
It was everyone's joint efforts that made the activity such a big success and it's the cultures behind the food that made the festival special. Every one of us sang high praise for the event.

As for the present physical education class each Monday morning I would work my way to the back of the line forming at the diving board so I would not have to practice the dives.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150左右;
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end.

One possible version:
With my heart knocking wildly, I walked down the diving board towards its end. Looking down, I found all my classmates were looking up at me. My face suddenly felt hot. Finally, I ignored them. Picturing the four steps of diving, I jumped. Then I folded my body but failed to reach for my toes. And instead of entering the water like an arrow, I fell into the water, with my body being flat. As a result, it caused a huge sound, which made all the classmates burst out laughing.
Knowing I failed, I climbed out of the pool, embarrassed. After class, Ms. Robbins comforted and encouraged me. In the following many Monday mornings, I practiced again and again under her guidance. Gradually, I became more confident and less shy. Finally, I attended the diving test again and performed well. This time, my classmates cheered and clapped. I was so glad. I knew my success resulted from my beating my shyness and my hard practice.
