Five-year-old Mustafa is smiling for the first time in ages. She did not receive a new toy or her favorite candy; rather, she got a wig (假发).
Mustafa had to go through painful procedures after being diagnosed (诊断) with cancer at an early age. Her father expressed her sadness when she lost her hair after months of chemotherapy (化疗). “She saw children of her age jumping in playgrounds and spending hours styling their hair, while she couldn’t. Losing her hair made her hopeless, negatively impacting her response to treatment,” the girl’s father said.
Coming from a less fortunate family, Mustafa now sits in a humble hairdresser’s in Cairo, sliding her fingers through her new long hair as she looks in the mirror with fresh enthusiasm. Behind that smile and renewed confidence is Salam, from Egypt, who has been personally funding and designing free wigs for children with cancer to give them power to defeat their illness.
Salam took up his mission when he saw a viral video on social media of a young cancer patient who was excited at receiving a new wig. It was the moment when he decided to provide free wigs to children with cancer to lift up their spirits. “Many families can barely afford expensive cancer treatment costs, let alone costly cosmetic (美容) services that can play a huge role in restoring children`s confidence and giving them strength to continue their treatment,” said Salam.
As part of the self-funded initiative, Salam purchases the necessary requirements to make a wig, while his father helps design hairstyles to serve different children. So far, Salam has helped over 15 children walk out of his shop empowered with big smiles.
Despite the several challenges, Salam said making wigs gives him as much happiness as it does for his young customers. “Children need the emotional and moral support to go through this tough illness.” He added, “Losing their hair drives them to withdraw into themselves out of fear and embarrassment. I cannot help in their treatment, but I can help them get through it.”
24. Why are a toy and candy mentioned in paragraph 1?
A. To suggest the girl’s age. B. To imply a serious illness.
C. To show the shortage of toys. D. To highlight the value of the wig.
25. What can be learned from the father`s words?
A. Hair style matters much. B. Sports benefit Mustafa.
C. Hair loss depressed Mustafa. D. Mustafa’s treatment failed.
26. What led to Salam`s decision on the mission?
A. His sympathy. B. Family support.
C. Govemment fund. D. Mustafa’s enthusiasm.
27. What kind of person is Salam according to the passage?
A. Cautious and creative. B. Inspiring and talented.
C. Caring and determined. D. Ambitious and patient.

Nuclear expert Peng Shilu once said that he only did two things in his entire life: one was to build nuclear submarines (核潜艇), and the other to build nuclear power plants. Despite being one of the founding members of China’s nuclear power industry, Peng described himself as playing a tiny role in the task. In fact, he held leading positions in most of China’s early nuclear power projects, from the first-generation nuclear submarines to the establishment of Dayawan and Qinshan nuclear power stations.
Peng was born in 1925 into a family of heroes. After the founding of the People’s Republic of China, Peng was selected to study chemical machinery (机械) in the Soviet Union. In 1956, when he was about to graduate, he faced a turning point in his life. At that time, the central government decided to select a group of outstanding students studying abroad to transfer to the atomic energy major. Peng willingly agreed, marking the beginning of his lifelong commitment to developing China’s nuclear power.
In 1958, China started to independently develop its own nuclear submarines, and Peng was appointed to take charge of the research and design of the nuclear propulsion system. In the 1980s, China decided to build a commercial nuclear power plant. Appointed as the director-in-chief, Peng once again devoted himself to its preparation and construction.
During his career, Peng held a variety of high-ranking titles. In 1994, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, one of the top academic bodies in China.
Peng passed away in Beijing on March 22, 2021 at the age of 96. The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee awarded the title “Role Model of the Times” to Peng for his contributions.
28. What does the author imply in the first paragraph?
A. Peng took interest in nothing but nuclear power.
B. Peng was actually a very modest person.
C. Peng played a tiny role in building nuclear power plants.
D. Peng was the most important figure in the nuclear field.
29. What does the underlined part in the 2nd paragraph mean?
A. Focus on. B. Know about.
C. Turn to. D. Research into.
30. How does the author develop the passage?
A. By following the time order. B. By showing the great importance.
C. By providing some similar examples. D. By explaining the process of research.
31. Which of the following is the proper title for the passage?
A. China Honors a Nuclear Power Expert
B. Peng Shilu Built Nuclear Submarines
C. China Lost a Famous Nuclear Expert
D. A Nuclear Hero Devoted Himself to Helping His Country
B 29. C 30. A 31. D
根据第一段中“Despite being one of the founding members of China’s nuclear power industry, Peng described himself as playing a tiny role in the task. (尽管彭是中国核电工业的奠基人之一,但他说自己在这项任务中发挥的作用很小)”可推知,彭士禄院士是一个非常谦虚的人。故选B项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据画线部分的上文“Peng was selected to study chemical machinery (机械) in the Soviet Union. In 1956, when he was about to graduate, he faced a turning point in his life. (彭被选派到苏联学习化学机械。1956年,当他即将毕业时,他面临着人生的转折点)”和下文“the atomic energy major (原子能专业)”可知,彭面临的转折点是放弃自己原来的专业,改学原子能专业,turn to表示“转向”,与画线部分意义一致。故选C项。
【30题详解】
推理判断题。通读全文可知,第一段引出文章的主题,再结合第二段中“Peng was born in 1925 into a family of heroes. (彭于1925年出生在一个英雄家庭)”、“In 1956, when he was about to graduate, he faced a turning point in his life. (1956年,当他即将毕业时,他面临着人生的转折点)”、第三段中“In 1958, China started to independently develop its own nuclear submarines, and Peng was appointed to take charge of the research and design of the nuclear propulsion system. In the 1980s, China decided to build a commercial nuclear power plant. (1958年,中国开始独立研制自己的核潜艇,彭被任命负责核动力推进系统的研究和设计。在20世纪80年代,中国决定建造一座商业核电站)”、第四段中“In 1994, he was elected as an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (1994年他当选为中国工程院院士)”和最后一段中“Peng passed away in Beijing on March 22, 2021 (彭于2021年3月22日在北京去世)”可知,文章按照时间顺序讲述彭士禄院士的生平。故选A项。
通读全文,尤其是第一段中“In fact, he held leading positions in most of China’s early nuclear power projects, from the first-generation nuclear submarines to the establishment of Dayawan and Qinshan nuclear power stations. (事实上,从第一代核潜艇到大亚湾和秦山核电站建设,他在中国早期的大部分核电项目中都担任领导职务)”和最后一段中“The Publicity Department of the Communist Party of China Central Committee awarded the title “Role Model of the Times” to Peng for his contributions. (中共中央宣传部授予他“时代楷模”称号,以表彰他的贡献)”可知,文章讲述了中国著名的核动力专家彭士禄的事迹,尤其体现了彭士禄为祖国发展所做的贡献。因此,D项“一位核英雄致力于帮助他的国家”最契合彭士禄的人物事迹和贡献,适合作为文章标题。故选D项。
D
Imagine if your clothes could pick up the sounds of everything going on around you. Scientists have created a fibre (纤维) which can pick up sounds and could be used as a hearing aid, to monitor heartbeats or even in spacecraft.
The new fibre works like a microphone. It picks up sounds and turns them into vibrations (震动) and then electrical signals, in a similar way to how ears work. When woven (编织) into a shirt, the researchers say the fibre can even detect a wearer’s heartbeat. The fibre can hear sounds as low as those in a quiet library to louder sounds like heavy road traffic. It can even accurately tell the direction of sudden sounds like handclaps.
The fibre was created by engineers at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and researchers at Rhode Island School of Design. “Wearing a piece of clothing that can hear, you might talk through it to answer phone calls and communicate with others,” said lead author Yet Wan, who created the technology at MIT.
Once they had created the fibre, the team wove it into a more traditional piece of clothing which was much more flexible. When it was woven into the back of a shirt it was able to pick up the sound of people clapping, even picking up the direction the clapping was coming from. When woven into the shirt’s inner lining (内衬) it could pick up the person’s heartbeat, which the researchers think could be used in a pregnant woman’s clothes to monitor a baby’s heartbeat.
As well as wearable hearing aids, and clothes that track your heartbeat, the team says there are possibilities beyond clothing. “It can be integrated with spacecraft skin to listen to space dust, or embedded into (嵌入) buildings to detect cracks or strains,” Yet suggests. “It can even be woven into a smart net to monitor fish in the ocean.”
32. What is the scientists’ new invention?
A. A lightweight fibre. B. A new spacecraft skin.
C. A fibre that can hear. D. A microphone that can talk.
33. What can we learn about the new material?
A. It is easily distracted by loud sounds.
B. It can even pick up faint sounds.
C. It works more accurately than human ears.
D. It fails to recognise the direction of sounds.
34. What did the team do after creating the new material?
A. They wove it into babies’ clothes. B. They turned it into a fishnet.
C. They put it into mass production. D. They tested its performance.
35. What do Yet’s words in the last paragraph suggest?
A. The fibre has a wide range of applications. B. The fibre can bring in a big profit.
C. The fibre needs to be improved. D. The fibre is less flexible than traditional clothes.
C 33. B 34. D 35. A

When woven into the shirt’s inner lining (内衬) it could pick up the person’s heartbeat, which the researchers think could be used in a pregnant woman’s clothes to monitor a baby’s heartbeat.
根据文章最后一段“the team says there are possibilities beyond clothing. “It can be integrated with spacecraft skin to listen to space dust, or embedded into (嵌入) buildings to detect cracks or strains,” Yet suggests. “It can even be woven into a smart net to monitor fish in the ocean.”(该团队表示,除了服装之外,还有其他可能性。Yet建议:“它可以与航天器外壳集成以收听太空尘埃,或者嵌入建筑物以检测裂缝或应变。”“它甚至可以编织成一个智能网来监测海洋中的鱼类。”)”可知,这种材料除了制作成衣服之外还可能有更加广泛的用途。故选A。

Life can be full of setbacks — an argument with your teenager over breakfast, a missed train, or even just a spilled coffee can make you feel bad. ____36____ Here are some ideas:
Identify the problem.
The earlier you catch your bad mood, the easier it will be to do something about it. ____37____ It’s also important to name what’s going on. It’s better to say, “I’m upset because I’m behind on an important project and traffic was terrible today”, rather than the over-simplified “I feel awful”. Having a concrete reason for your unhappiness gives you something to work on.
Take a moment to be grateful.
____38____ So as soon as you start to feel negative, change your mood by asking yourself, “What are three good things that are going on right now?” Consider saying them out loud or writing them down. This will help you see the bad day in a better way.

设空位于段首,为本段中心句,根据本段小标题“Take a moment to be grateful.(花点时间感恩吧)”可知,本段主要讲感恩,所以G项“Being thankful helps fight the feeling of being stressed and out of control.(感恩有助于战胜压力和失控的感觉)”符合本段主题,是对前文的进一步解释,为本段中心句。故选G项。
根据前文“Another way to avoid feeling bad is to take a single concrete action. Send that email that you’ve been meaning to get to or make a phone call you’ve been avoiding.(另一个避免感觉不好的方法是采取一个具体的行动。发一封你一直想发的邮件,或者打一个你一直回避的电话)”可知,本段主要讲述采取一个具体的行动来避免感觉不好,所以E项“The effect is even stronger if the action you take benefits someone else.(如果你采取的行动对其他人有利,效果会更强)”是对前文举例的进一步建议,其中action为同词复现。故选E项。
【40题详解】
设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“If you’re feeling bad, don’t stay at your desk all day. A change of scenery often helps signal to your brain that the current mood doesn’t need to be sustained. Drive around, take a walk, or just go to a different floor. The key is to put yourself in a different physical location. And once you’re there, take a few deep breaths.(如果你感觉不好,不要整天坐在办公桌前。

Sally was a bright and hardworking student, but she had a bad habit: she often stayed up late studying. Because of this, she had trouble waking up early and would sometimes be late for school.
One morning, she walked into class late again, and Mr. Wells, her English teacher, became very angry. He looked at Sally and said firmly, “If you’re late again tomorrow, I will call your father.” Sally felt nervous because her parents were very strict. She knew they wouldn’t be happy if that happened. She said sorry to Mr. Wells and promised she would be on time the next day.
Determined to keep her promise, Sally woke up very early the next morning. She didn’t want to risk being late again. She quickly got dressed, grabbed her school bag, and rushed out the door without having breakfast. By the time the bell rang, she had already sat at her desk, feeling proud of herself. However, when the door opened, it wasn’t Mr. Wells who entered the room — it was Miss Jones. Mr. Wells was on a business trip, and Miss Jones was filling in for him that day. Sally was disappointed. She had worked so hard to be on time, but it didn’t seem to matter in the end.
The next day, Sally woke up even earlier. She didn’t want to take any chances, so she ate a quick breakfast and left for school with enough time to spare. As she walked near the school gate, she noticed something on the ground. It was a wallet. She picked it up and decided to wait for the owner.
A moment later, Sally checked the time and heard the first bell ringing. She knew she had to hurry, but she didn’t want to ignore the wallet. She thought for a while, and then decided, “I should turn it in to the headmaster first.” She rushed to the headmaster’s office and handed it in.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
When Sally reached the classroom, Mr. Wells had already started the class.

When Sally reached the classroom, Mr. Wells had already started the class. Mr. Wells, who had returned from his business trip, looked at her and said, “You promised to be on time, but you’re late again!” Sally was about to explain, but Mr. Wells interrupted her, “No excuses, Sally! I don’t want to hear it.” Tears began to roll down her cheeks as she thought, “This is so unfair! What will my parents say if Mr. Wells really calls them? How will they punish me?”
As the bell rang for break, the headmaster walked into the classroom. He was holding the wallet Sally had found. He walked up to Mr. Wells and asked, “Is this your wallet?” Mr. Wells nodded, surprised. The headmaster continued, “You should thank Sally. She picked this wallet up, waited at the gate and handed it in to me this morning.” At that moment, Mr. Wells realized he had made a mistake. He felt embarrassed but also grateful. He turned to Sally and said, “I’m terribly sorry. I still need to call your parents, but this time, I will tell them how warm-hearted you are.”

A. His sympathy. B. Family support.
C. Govemment fund. D. Mustafa’s enthusiasm.
27. What kind of person is Salam according to the passage?

28 What does the author imply in the first paragraph?

Take action.
Another way to avoid feeling bad is to take a single concrete action. Send that email that you’ve been meaning to get to or make a phone call you’ve been avoiding. ____39____ You might be buried in your inbox (收件箱), but if you take two minutes to send an email praising or thanking someone else, you’ll actually feel like you’ve gained time.
Change your routine.
If you’re feeling bad, don’t stay at your desk all day. A change of scenery often helps signal to your brain that the current mood doesn’t need to be sustained. Drive around, take a walk, or just go to a different floor. The key is to put yourself in a different physical location. And once you’re there, take a few deep breaths. ____40____
A. When you do have bad days, it’s vital to reflect on them.
B. The good news is that you can turn a bad day into a good one.
C. It’s important to stop regularly to check your emotional state.
