Farmers often lose crops because they cannot spot diseases fast enough. When a virus (病毒) spreads, it can destroy many plants and hurt nearby farms too. In Tanzania, several viruses attack crops every year. Farmers used to wait six months or more for lab results, but now a small, hand-held tool is changing everything.
The tool is made by a British company. It looks like a little box and is easy to carry to any field. First, a farmer cuts a tiny piece from a sick leaf. The tool then pulls out the plant’s DNA and reads it. Within two hours, it tells the farmer which virus is hurting the crop. This speed is very important, because the quicker the answer, the sooner the farmer can act.
After testing, farmer Asha Mohamed learned exactly which viruses were on her land. She was given two kinds of new seeds that can control those viruses. She planted them right away. Nine months later, scientists came back and saw tall, healthy plants and a big harvest. The same tool was also used in Kenya on Naomi Mumo’s pawpaw trees. The quick test showed the exact disease, and Naomi could choose the right treatment.
Because the tool is small and runs on batteries, farmers can use it anywhere. They do not need a big lab or a long waiting time. By finding viruses early and choosing resistant seeds, farmers protect their crops, their neighbors’ crops, and their income.
32. What was the main problem farmers faced in the past?
A. A lack of modern farming techniques. B. A shortage of high-quality farming land.
C. A slow process to find diseases in crops. D. An inability to afford necessary supplies.
33. How does the hand-held tool help farmers?
A. By watering the crops when needed. B. By increasing the growth speed of the crops.
C. By reading the plant’s DNA to find the virus. D. By predicting which diseases will spread next.
34. What happened to farmer Asha Mohamed after she used the tool?
A. She got more land to plant her crops on. B. She received money to help pay for her farm.
C. She was given special seeds that stop viruses. D. All her crops became completely disease-proof.
35. Where is the text most likely from?
A. A diary. B. A guidebook. C. A fairy novel. D. A science magazine.
【答案】32. C 33. C 34. C 35. D

故填what。

由空前“Zhang did not give up”和空后“was accepted as a primary school teacher in her hometown in Gansu Province”可知,前一句说她没有放弃,后一句说她被录用,前后句之间是顺接关系,所以用and连接。故填and。
【64题详解】
考查动词不定式。句意:对于身体健康的人来说,从她家到学校只需要6分钟,但张必须拄着拐杖花一个小时去上班。It takes sb. some time to do sth.“做某事花费某人多长时间”,固定句型,其中it为形式主语,真正的主语是动词不定式,所以空处需用动词不定式to reach。故填to reach。

My Views on Weekend Break
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
My Views on Weekend Break
Recently, we have been discussing a heated topic: Weekend Break: Friday or Saturday?
In my opinion, starting the weekend break on Friday after school is better. First, it gives students a longer rest period, helping them relax and recharge fully. After a busy week, an early break reduces stress and improves productivity. Second, it allows more time for hobbies or family activities, promoting a better work life balance.
However, some may prefer Saturday to ensure all schoolwork is finished. But with good time management, Friday’s early start offers greater benefits. In short, a longer break leads to a happier, healthier student life!
One possible version:
My Views On Weekend Break
Recently, we have been discussing a heated topic: one-day weekends or two-day weekends? As a student, I strongly support the two-day weekend over the one-day weekend.
First, a two-day break gives us more time to relax and recover from a busy school week, helping us feel refreshed. Second, it allows us to spend quality time with family and friends, which makes us happier. Finally, having two days off improves our energy and focus, making us more productive when we return to school. A one-day weekend is too short and leaves us tired.
Therefore, I believe a two-day weekend is better for balancing school and life.
【解析】
【导语】本篇书面表达属于开放性作文。要求考生就学校关于学生周末休息制度改革的讨论陈述观点和理由,可选择支持“单休”制或“双休”制,并阐述相应理由。

One pleasant New-year morning, Edward rose, and washed and dressed himself in a hurry. He wanted to be first to wish a happy New Year to his family. He turned up at every door of the house, and shouted the words of “Happy New Year” in an excited voice. After a quick breakfast, he hopped along the street like a happy bird, greeted and repeated the words to those he met.
When he came back, his father gave him 50 dollars, saying he could buy whatever he had been wishing for. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some interesting books that he had seen at the bookstore. He thanked his father and danced out of the house again with a light heart, wanting to buy those books.
As he ran down the street, he noticed a poor German family, the father, mother, and three children trembling with cold. “I wish you a happy New Year,” said Edward, as he was happily passing on. The man took a look at the happy boy and shook his head sadly.
Edward stopped and said, “It seems that you do not belong to this country” The man again shook his head, a confused expression appeared over his face, for he could not understand or speak English.
But the poor man pointed to his mouth, and to the children with hungry looks, as if to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.”

【答案】Paragraph 1:
He took out his dollars, and gave them all to the man. How their eyes sparkled with gratitude! They said something in their language, which might mean, “You are doing me a great favor, and I am very grateful to you.” The man was so moved that he stood there, failing to say any words. At the same time, Edward saw a bright smile spread across the man’s face. He smiled back at the father, waved goodbye to the family and went home delightedly.
Paragraph 2:
When Edward went home, his father asked what book he had bought. He hung his head a moment, but quickly looked up. Then he told the story to his father. “I have bought no books,” said he, “I can wait for my books till next New Year.” “My dear boy,” said his father, “here are a dozen of books. I give them to you, more as a reward for your goodness of heart than as a New Year gift.” It was on that very moment that Edward realized a small act of kindness may be powerful enough to make a huge difference.

33 How does the hand-held tool help farmers?
