Do you know how dolphins communicate with each other? They can’t talk like humans, but they have their own ways of “speaking”. The two main methods that dolphins use to communicate are clicking and whistling (吹口哨), which can help them look for directions and can be heard up to 12.4 miles away through the ocean.
Scientists are trying to work out more about the meanings behind special whistle and click forms, as this would enable humans to listen to and understand the dolphin’s language and world much more easily. However, it’s thought that dolphins communicate in a very different manner from humans, and their speech shouldn’t be translated into human language. Dolphins’ whistles, which they use as names to tell themselves apart from others and share personal information, have long been known as one of the most complex forms of animal communication ever studied. These calls can differ between different dolphins and situations.
Studies have shown that when a dolphin appears to be in trouble, it will produce a loud whistle so that those in its group can help it. When one dolphin whistles, another dolphin usually answers by making a similar sound, or sometimes by swimming closer to the dolphin that makes the sound. It’s also quite common for a mother and her baby to keep whistling when they become separated until they find each other again.

When you look into your mother’s eyes, you know that is the deepest love you can find on this earth. This purest love has been written by a lot of poets around the world. The most famous one might be Song of the Parting Son (游子吟). Chinese poet, Meng Jiao’s poem clearly shows a mother’s everlasting love.
Song of the Parting Son
Translated by Xu Yuanchong (许渊冲)
The thread (线) in mother’s hand,
A gown (长袍) for parting son,
Sewn (缝) stitch by stitch (针), alas!
For fear of cold he’ll stand.
Such kindness of the warm sun,
Can’t be repaid by grass.
The famous ancient thinker Confucius (孔子) said that while your parents are still alive, you shouldn’t be allowed to travel to faraway places. But if traveling is necessary, then you should have a clear direction. You shouldn’t let your parents worry about you when you aren’t around.
Mothers everywhere love their children from the bottom of their hearts. But you don’t need big words to express your love for your mom. Just like this Chinese poem, the American pop song The Best Day has a similar message. In the song, the singer recalls childhood memories of her mother. She tells a sweet story about coming home after a hard day at school. Her mom is there to give her a big hug, then drives her to a faraway town where they don’t know anyone. They talk and go window shopping to forget about school for a while. In this song, she shows how her mom is loving, protective and supportive to her.
Actually every mom is loving her child in her own way. So why not find a creative way to express your thanks to your mom? Just sing her a song or write her a poem.
41. According to the song, what nice things did the singer’s mom do for her after a hard school day?
_________________________________________________
42. What does the writer advise the reader to do to express thanks to the mother?

范文:
Learn to Deal with Negative Emotions
Everyone experiences negative emotions. I still remember feeling very anxious before an important math exam last semester. I was so worried that I couldn’t sleep well.
To deal with this anxiety, I tried two methods. First, I talked to my mother about my feelings. Her comfort made me feel much better. Second, I listened to some light music and took deep breaths before sleeping. This helped me relax.
Through this experience, I learned that properly handling negative emotions is very important. It not only helps us regain peace of mind but also allows us to face challenges more bravely. Now I always try to deal with negative feelings in a positive way.

Classics are the treasure of the literary (文学) world. For years, people have read them to learn more. But now, more people love “watching” these classics in videos.
According to a 2023 report released by the Chinese short-video platform Douyin, the views for book-related videos jumped by 65.17 percent year-on-year.
“There are some classics that I am not interested in but required to read,” said 14-year-old He Liyan from Jiangsu. “So I usually watch a video about the book to find some interesting stories which can keep me reading.”
Some people also find classic books really long and hard to understand, so they go to vloggers’ explanations.
“The vloggers also add personal opinions to their explanations, making the book easier to understand,” added He.
A Dream of Red Mansions (《红楼梦》) is famous for showing Chinese society with interesting characters and a poetic writing style. It talks about family, society and human nature. These things can be fun to watch but boring and difficult to read.
“There are so many characters in the novel, which confused me a lot,” said 12-year-old Shao Xinyan from Hubei. “The mind maps shown in the videos make their relationships clearer.”
While reading with videos helps many people, some express different opinions and worries.
For Zhang Boren, a 13-year-old from Beijing, reading is a journey about forming a personal relationship with the text, not just learning information. “Books can let me imagine. Although videos can help a lot, they can’t show every part of a well-made story,” he said.
Eighteen-year-old Wang Hongjie from Sichuan agreed, saying, “It may decrease readers’ ability to read independently and think deeply.”
9. According to Douyin the views for book-related videos ________.
A. increased greatly B. decreased rapidly
C. remained the same D. went up and down
10. How do book-related videos help He Liyan?
A By explaining classics with pictures. B. By summarizing books in a few words.
C. By showing mind maps of some classics. D. By increasing his interest in the books.
11. What did Shao Xinyan learn about A Dream of Red Mansions through videos?
A. She learned about some experts’ opinions.
B. She better understood the character relationships.
C. She understood the book’s poetic writing style.
D. She got to know about the book’s writing background.
12. What is the main worry about book-related videos?
A. They waste readers’ time by just summarizing the books.
B. They stop readers from understanding the books by themselves.
C. They give too much unnecessary information to viewers.
D. The vloggers’ incorrect opinions could mislead viewers.
D

Actually, every mom is loving her child in her own way. So why not find a creative way to express your thanks to your mom? Just sing her a song or write her a poem.
41. According to the song, what nice things did the singer’s mom do for her after a hard school day?

42. What does the writer advise the reader to do to express thanks to the mother?
