When he was 18, Isaac went to study at Cambridge University. He was very interested in physics, mathematics and astronomy. But in 1665 the Great Plague, which was a terrible disease, spread in England, and Cambridge University had to close down. Isaac returned home to the 32 .
Isaac continued studying and experimenting at home. One day he was drinking a cup of tea in the garden. He saw an apple fall from a tree. “Why do apples fall 33 instead of up?” From this, he formed the theory of gravity. Gravity is an invisible 34 which pulls objects towards the Earth and keeps the planets moving around the Sun.
Isaac was fascinated by 35 . He discovered that white light is in fact made up of all the colours of the rainbow. Isaac also invented a special reflecting telescope, using mirrors. It was much more powerful than other telescopes.
Isaac made another very important 36 , which he called his “Three Laws of Motion”. These laws 37 how objects move. Isaac’s laws are still used today for sending rockets into space.
Thanks to his brilliant inventions, Isaac earned a lot of money and became 38 and famous. During his lifetime, Isaac often argued with others because of his 39 temper. That’s the reason why he had few friends and never got married.

Henry started a business with great enthusiasm (热情), but just after a few months, it failed. After that, he stayed out of work for quite some time. When his teacher Roy knew this, he invited Henry to his home. Roy asked, “Why don’t you try some other work?”
“I started a business. I worked so hard and 41 my everything to it, yet it didn’t work. So what’s the point of doing work 42 I can’t be sure of success?” Henry replied 43 .
Then Roy showed him a dead 44 plant. Roy said, “When I sowed its seed, I did 45 right. I watered it and took great care of it, but it still died.” He continued, “Doing work is the same. No matter how hard you try, you cannot decide what happens in the end. But if you stop trying, you’re not going to 46 anything big in your life.”
“But if success is only a matter of chance, then why 47 so much energy and time?” Henry questioned as he was about to leave.
Just then, Roy said, “ 48 you leave, I want to show you one more thing.” He took Henry to another room. There lay a pile of red tomatoes. Henry couldn’t get the point and asked, “Why are you showing me this?”
Roy explained, “These tomatoes are the result of not giving up after earlier failures. I didn’t stop after seeing those dead plants. 49 , I sowed seeds again and took care of them. This time, the plants grew. Similarly, if you keep trying, your chances of success improve greatly. But if you give up because of failures, life won’t offer you any reward.”
Henry finally understood. He 50 that success often comes after many attempts, and that the key is to never stop trying. With renewed energy, he decided to make a new plan and start again.

Life Is Beautiful is an Italian movie that tells a powerful story about a father’s love during World WarⅡ.
The movie begins in the 1930s in a small Italian town. Guido, a(n) 51 Jewish (犹太) man with a big smile, always makes people laugh with his jokes and magic tricks. Guido often tells his son Giosuè, “Life is a 52 ! If you smile and play fair, you’ll always win!”
When World War II begins, they are 53 to head to a camp (集中营). Guido knows the camp is dangerous, 54 he wants to protect his son’s innocence (纯真). He invents a clever story to explain the situation to his son: “This is all part of a big game, Giosuè! The winner’s prize is a REAL tank (坦克)!” He 55 makes up rules for the “game”.
Getting points: Giosuè gets points for hiding quietly, 56 the guards, and not crying for candy.
Losing points: If the guards see him or if he complains about hunger, he loses points.
The big prize: If they earn 1,000 points, they win a tank.
In the camp, the prisoners (囚犯) work all day and are really tired. But Guido pretends his tiredness is part of the game. Guido says to his son, “Look how many points we got today!” He also tells him imaginative stories about their “progress” in the game. He describes how close they are to winning the tank, making Giosuè’s eyes shine with 57 .
As the war nears its end, Guido hides Giosuè inside a small metal box. 58 , a soldier catches Guido. When walking away, he passes Giosuè’s hiding box. Knowing his son is watching, Guido throws his leg high in the air like a silly and funny duck and winks at Giosuè. It is his final act of love in life—making his son 59 one last time.

When I was a child, my brother and I spent summer weeks with my grandparents in the countryside.
Though we often visited 61 , those special days were unforgettable―they gave us love, not gifts. Both grandparents were important to me, 62 grandpa, who shared his name with me.
He lost his sight (视力) at twenty, but never 63 . For years, he worked 64 a local government worker, ran a snack shop, cooked meals, and washed dishes with grandma. From age six to fourteen, I watched him 65 around the house smoothly, as if he could see. He dealt with money and orders 66 , which amazed me.
When the shop was quiet, he clasped (紧握) his hands and moved his thumbs―a habit I found 67 . Many friends came just to talk to him. While they were talking, I always helped pass snacks to 68 , feeling proud. Every evening, we visited sick people or attended funerals (葬礼).
69 blind, he kept working and helping others with endless kindness.
The lessons he taught me stay in my heart. Now, when I clasp my hands by the sea, I remember him. If someone says, “I can’t do that,” I think of my grandpa―a blind man who never said those words. He taught me that real limits are in our hearts, not in our 70 .
