Drawn to the ancient language, he went to China to study Chinese in the 1990s. In 1994, Richard Sears decided to put the ancient Chinese characters online. Then, in 2002, he did it. That is the beginning of the Chinese Etymology (汉字字源) website. “My website did not get much attention for the next few years. Until one day in 2011, it suddenly got a lot of attention. I got a few thousand emails, and a few million visitors and people started calling me ‘Uncle Hanzi’,” Sears said with a smile. Hanzi means Chinese characters. He has put more than 96,000 ancient Chinese characters onto the website. “When I study each character, I wonder what the ancient Chinese thought,” said Sears. After visiting many Chinese cities, Sears learned more about China and ancient Chinese culture. He said when he came to China in the last century, few Chinese could speak good English. “However, you can hear English in many places in China now. Chinese language and culture were mysterious and not known by people in most countries then, but now, more and more people in the world are learning Chinese, even Chinese history, traditional Chinese medicine and so on,” Sears added. At present, the 70-year-old American has made his home in China. “When I die, I hope my website will live on; and I’m planning to write a book about my research. This will be my gift to China,” he said. 14.What does “Drawn to the ancient language” mean in Paragraph1? A.Sears was interested in ancient Chinese. B.Sears had to study Chinese characters. The robot, has successfully joined real antelope groups in nature. For many years, Tibetan antelopes were in serious danger. They were hunted for their soft fur, which is used to make expensive shawls. As a result, their population dropped greatly from one million to 65,000 in the 1990s. Thanks to strong protection effort, the number is now rising again. However, it is still difficult for scientists to study them closely. The antelopes live in the Hoh Xil National Nature Reserve, which is over 4,600 meters above sea level with cold and little oxygen. Also, the antelopes are very sensitive—they run away from humans 500-800 meters away. Traditional tools like telescopes cannot get close enough, and drones often scare the animals. So the robotic antelope was invented to solve these problems. Not long ago, the robot was recently tested near Zonag Lake where female antelopes go every summer to give birth. Unlike human scientists carrying cameras, the robotic antelope had a small hidden camera under its eyes. It looks just like a real antelope, sharing the same fur colour and body shape, so it doesn’t scare the animals. At first, the real antelopes seemed curious about the newcomer. But soon, it was accepted into the group to walk with the real antelopes and recorded videos. The robot uses artificial intelligence (AI), which allows it to “learn” as it moves. During the test, it successfully travelled 2 kilometers across challenging ground, like slopes and muddy wetlands, collecting valuable videos and data. Scientists believe this robotics technology can provide important information to support the protection of Tibetan antelopes, especially during birth and migration seasons, with very little human interference. 18.What was the population of Tibetan antelopes in the 1990s? A.One million. B.65,000. C.4,600. D.500-800. 19.Why didn’t the robotic antelope scare real antelopes? A.Because it moves very quickly. B.Because it works only at night. C.Because it makes friendly sounds. D.Because it looks like a real antelope. 20.How did the robotic antelope successfully travel 2 kilometers? A.By being directly controlled by scientists. B.By using its artificial intelligence (AI) to learn. C.By avoiding difficult ground with the help of its camera. D.By following the specific path of a wild antelope leader. 21.What is the main idea of the text? A.It explains why Tibetan antelopes were in danger. B.It discusses the importance of protecting Tibetan wild antelopes. C.It reports how scientists use a robotic antelope to protect wild antelopes. D.It compares the differences between real antelopes and robotic antelopes. 根据“their population dropped greatly from one million to 65,000 in the 1990s.”可知,藏羚羊在20世纪90年代时的数量为65,000。故选B。 19.细节理解题。根据“It looks just like a real antelope, sharing the same fur colour and body shape, so it doesn’t scare the animals.”可知,它看上去就像真的藏羚羊,有着相同的毛色和体型,因此不会惊扰到真的藏羚羊。故选D。 20.细节理解题。根据“The robot uses artificial intelligence (AI), which allows it to ‘learn’ as it moves. During the test, it successfully travelled 2 kilometers across challenging ground,”可知,机器人使用人工智能,可以一边移动一边‘学习’,因此成功穿越了2公里的艰难地形。故选B。 21.主旨大意题。通读全文内容可知,本文主要介绍科学家如何利用仿生机器人去接近并保护野生藏羚羊,收集和提供必要的信息。故选C。 D Old Wives’ Tales are those “helpful” things that your grandparents say that are probably not true. They are things like, “If you eat carrots, you’ll see well in the dark”, or “If you eat cheese at night, you’ll have bad dreams”. But are they nonsense (胡说) or is there sometimes a little bit of truth in them? We decided to find out more. Let’s start with a famous one: “An apple a day keeps the doctor away”. Well, of course everyone knows that fruit is important for health. But can one apple really make a difference? A medical study from 2013 says “yes”. It found that if people over 50 eat an apple a day, their chances of heart problems are much smaller than people who don’t. What about “Gain a child, lose a tooth”? They say that when a woman has a child, a tooth will fall out. Researchers studied more than 2, 600 women between the ages of 18 and 64 with one or more children and guess what? They found they had more problems with their teeth than women with no children, although they couldn’t say exactly why. My great uncle was a big believer that “fish is brain food”. It looks like he might be right. Fish have a lot of omega-3 and omega-6 fats in their oil. Some scientists studied 120 primary school children, and they discovered that the children who ate omega-3 and omega-6 made big improvements in their schoolwork. If you eat fish oil, it will help to prevent heart problems, too. It seems like eating fish is a good idea. Finally, what about those carrots? Can they really help your night vision? I’ve eaten them all my life, but I still walk into things when I get up in the night. Unluckily, I can’t find anything to show if this is right or wrong. I’ll keep looking and I’ll let you know as soon as I find out. 22.Why is it good to eat apples? A.They can help to keep away heart problems. B.They can help doctors work well. C.They can help to see well in the dark. D.They can bring you good dreams. 23.What did the researchers find out about mothers? A.Their bags were always full of carrots. B.They had more terrible dreams. C.They often had more teeth problems. D.Their hearts were much healthier. 24.What happened to children who ate omega-3 and omega-6? A.They had problems in reading. B.They made progress in schoolwork. C.They went fishing more often. D.They would fail in tests more easily. 25.Which of the following shows the structure (结构) of the passage? (P= Paragraph) A. B. C. C.Sears could draw Chinese characters well. D.Sears could speak ancient Chinese very well. 15.What did Sears put on the Chinese Etymology website? A.Chinese history. B.Ancient Chinese characters. A.Great Changes in China B.Mysterious Chinese Language and Culture C.American “Uncle Hanzi” D.A Young American and Traditional Chinese Culture C Chinese scientists have developed a robotic antelope to watch over wild Tibetan antelopes—a species listed as “near endangered”. D Old Wives’ Tales are those “helpful” things that your grandparents say that are probably not true. B. C. D. 第三部分 信息还原(共5小题:每小题1分,满分5分) 请认真阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,选项中有两项为多余选项。 Fires are one of the most dangerous disasters that can happen in cities. On November 26, 2025, Hong Kong experienced a large fire that shocked the whole city. 26 The fire quickly reached Level 5, the second-highest alarm level in Hong Kong’s fire safety system. 27 The bamboo scaffolding (脚手架) and construction nets on the buildings provided extra fuel for the fire, making it burn even more easily. Firemen faced great difficulties because of the deadly heat and strong winds. In the face of the sudden challenges, the rescue (营救) operation began at once. 28 They risked their lives to enter the burning buildings and save as many people as possible. Some trapped residents (被困居民) were contacted by phone to keep them calm while waiting for help. 29 The government opened temporary shelters (临时避难所) for those who lost their homes. Social workers and psychologists were also sent to provide emotional support to the scared residents. The fire has left a deep impression on everyone. 30 It also reminds the government and communities to pay more attention to fire safety, especially in old buildings and construction sites. A.Many people gathered to watch the fire from a safe place. B.Fires can cause great damage to property and even take lives. C.Strong winds played a main role in the rapid spread of the fire. D.More than 700 firemen and rescue workers were sent to the scene. E.The fire was put out within just one hour of the alarm being raised.
