Hawaii is home to many special birds. One famous group is
honey-creepers.The birds look small and pretty.Over 50 different
kinds of honey-creepers used to live in Hawaii. Now,the number is
only 17.
Why are honey-creepers disappearing? One of the biggest
reasons is mosquitoes().When mosquitoes bite them, the birds
can get sick and die.
Before the 1800s,there were no mosquitoes in Hawaii.Once they arrived, birds had no
protection from their bites. Some birds moved higher into Hawaii's mountains.where it was too cool
for mosquitoes. However,as the climate gets warmer, the insects are even reaching these areas.
A local animal group,BNM,is trying to save the birds. It plans to lower the number of
mosquitoes along with other partners. And they're doing this in a surprising way,by adding more
mosquitoes to Hawaii.
This may sound like a bad plan, but there are actually some tricks to make it work.First,BNM
only chooses special mosquitoes. They don't bite birds.Secondly, when these mosquitoes have baby
eggs, the eggs never hatch ()Overtime,the mosquito population will get smaller.
But this can be a tough job.The birds live across huge areas in the mountains of different
Hawaiian islands.Protecting all of them needs a lot of work.BNM hopes to use drones ()to
drop the special mosquitoes into the mountains. And it hopes the action will give Hawaii's birds a
chance to recover(恢复).
()23.What do the numbers in the first paragraph show?
A.Honey-creepers are getting bigger in size.
B.Honey-creepers are in danger of disappearing.
C.There are more different kinds of birds in Hawaii.
()24.How does BNM save honey-creepers?
A.By killing more insects.
B.By building special houses for them.
C.By introducing special mosquitoes to the area.

A.difficult
B.strange
C.creative
()26.What is the best title of the article?

Air taxis can make people's travel faster and safer. They can help improve traffic jams with their
direct point-to-point travel. They can save time for people. The cost of taking an air taxi may be more
expensive than ground transport, but the travel can be up to five times faster. With the help of
computers, the ai taxis can fly safely in the sky. That is to say,the computers can plan the flight of
every air taxi in advance ()so that they won't have any accidents in the sky.
The air taxi is also a better choice for cities. As an eco-friendly choice,it produces fewer
emissions (than traditional cars, improving air quality.
