Today, food delivery (外卖) is an important part of our daily lives. But did you know it started a long time ago?
The history of food delivery began in the Han Dynasty (朝代). At that time, it was called dining service. Then the expression “food delivery” first appeared in the Song Dynasty. At first, food delivery was a special service only for important people. But in the Song Dynasty, China’s food delivery reached its best time. Anyone could get the service if he wanted it.
Without phones, food delivery was more difficult than today. Customers had to visit a restaurant in person, and tell the restaurant when and where they needed the food. Then the restaurant would bring it to them. The delivery person was called xianhan.
People wanted their delivered food to be warm and delicious. In the Song Dynasty, they had a special tool called wenpan. It was like two plates put together with space (空间) in the middle. They would pour hot water into that space to keep the food on top warm.

A 12-year-old Chinese boy named Wu Zeyin is using his computer skills to help farmers in Botswana. Eight years ago, his father got a new job in Botswana, so he moved there with his family.
Over the years, Wu noticed a big problem. The local markets had very few kinds of fruits and vegetables, and they were very expensive. Many vegetables, like carrots and tomatoes, looked small and not fresh. He learned that Botswana had to buy a lot of fruits and vegetables from other countries to meet people’s needs.
