A 2026 survey focusing on four outbound travel (出境游) plans was released by a domestic travel service platform. With the aim of providing targeted and data-driven references for the tourism industry, the survey was conducted among 8,000 potential travelers aged 18 to 45 from 15 provinces, including Liaoning and its neighboring provinces. It centers on core indicators to gain insights into people’s outbound travel preferences.
As cross-border tourism rebounds steadily, outbound travel has grown increasingly popular among people for leisure and vacation. The survey is intended to identify the strengths and weaknesses of different travel plans, understand travelers’ core needs, and provide effective support for travel agencies to optimize their products. In sum, it bridges the gap between travelers’ core needs and travel agencies’ products. Key survey data are shown in the table below:
●7-Day Thailand Tour
¥6,800 per person
7 days and 6 nights
85% satisfaction rate
Low visa application difficulty
●10-Day Italy Tour
¥15,800 per person
10 days and 8 nights
91% satisfaction rate
Medium visa application difficulty
●8-Day New Zealand Tour
¥12,300 per person
8 days and 7 nights
96% satisfaction rate
Low-medium visa application difficulty
●9-Day Brazil Tour
¥18,600 per person
9 days and 7 nights
88% satisfaction rate
High visa application difficulty
The main factors influencing travelers’ choices of outbound travel plans include travel cost, travel safety and convenience of visa application. Most respondents expressed hopes for more free activity time in the journeys, professional bilingual local guides, and transparent evaluations of cooperative hotels and restaurants.

Toni Marks is an 80-year-old blind psychiatrist who has mastered the art of fly fishing, proving that passion can conquer even the most daunting (令人生畏的) challenges.
Born with retinitis pigmentosa, a condition that damages the light-sensitive tissue in the eyes, Toni faced a life of darkness. Yet his parents made a careful choice: they never told him about his disability, hoping he would grow up believing he could achieve anything he set his mind to. This attitude guided him all his life.
Toni studied medicine and went on to become a psychiatrist. Even after losing his sight completely in his early 30s, he continued his career successfully. He treated patients in prisons, private clinics and hospitals, depending on his sharp hearing and strong intuition to notice small changes in his patients’ voices and behaviors. Besides work, Toni had many hobbies. He learned woodworking, built garden sheds and even renovated his home with special tools. He also played the piano by ear, and most surprisingly, mastered fly fishing.
Fly fishing may seem impossible for a blind person, but Toni found ways to succeed. His fishing friends helped him by describing the river’s layout, the angle of overhanging branches and the types of food the fish feed on. Toni walked into the river wearing waders, felt his way along the stony bottom, and used his sharp hearing to detect the sound of water and the light pull of a fish on his line.
To Toni, fly fishing is more than a hobby — it is a form of comfort. It helps him escape work stress and connect deeply with nature. At 80, he still travels four hours to his favorite fishing spot in New Zealand, enjoying the friendship of his buddies and the excitement of catching fish. He once summed up his life philosophy simply, “Get out and do what you love.”
4. Why didn’t Toni’s parents tell him about his eye condition?
A. They wanted him to live without limits. B. They forgot to mention it as he grew up.
C. They thought the disease would cure itself. D. They feared he would give up his studies.
5. How did Toni continue his career as a psychiatrist after going blind?
A. He hired an assistant to describe patients’ appearances.
B He relied on hearing and intuition to understand patients.
C. He switched to working only in quiet private clinics.
D. He focused on treating patients with similar disabilities.
6. What do Toni’s friends do to help him with fly fishing?
A. They catch fish on his behalf and hand them to him.
B. They build special fishing tools adapted for the blind.
C. They provide detailed descriptions of the fishing environment.
D. They teach him to use modern technology to detect fish.
7. What can we infer from Toni’s story?
A. Disability can drive some people to be more creative in pursuing hobbies.
B. Passion and a positive attitude can overcome great difficulties.
C. Fly fishing is an ideal activity for people with visual impairments.
D. Childhood experiences have little impact on a person’s adult life.
C
In 1818, 18-year-old British writer Mary Shelley published her first novel Frankenstein, or The Modern Prometheus. At that time, the Industrial Revolution was changing the world. New machines and technologies were being invented, and people began to dream of creating life through science. Shelley’s novel, often called the first true science fiction story, told a dark and thought-provoking tale that would echo through the centuries.
The book’s main character is Victor Frankenstein, a young scientist. He is obsessed with the idea of creating life from dead matter. After years of hard work, he finally succeeds in making a human-like creature. But the creature is ugly and frightening. Frankenstein is so scared that he abandons his creation. Left alone and rejected by everyone, the creature feels lonely and angry. He starts to take revenge (复仇) on Frankenstein, killing those the scientist loves most. In the end, both Frankenstein and his creature die in pain and regret.
Shelley did not just write a horror story. She asked a question that is still important today: What happens when humans try to play God? When we create something new, do we have a responsibility to care for it? Upon the novel’s publication, people regarded it as a chilling fantasy. No one could have imagined that in the 21st century, we would be talking about artificial intelligence (AI), cloning technology, and robots that can think and learn. These inventions are far more advanced than Frankenstein’s creature, but they raise the same moral questions.
Today, Frankenstein is more than a classic novel. It is a warning. As we develop AI and other advanced technologies, we must remember Shelley’s message: Progress without responsibility is dangerous. We should not create things just because we can. We must think about how our inventions will affect humanity and the world around us.
8. What can we know about Frankenstein from Paragraph 1?
A. It was written during the Information Age.
B. It was based on Mary Shelley’s personal experience as a scientist.
C. It described the beautiful results of the Industrial Revolution.
D. It is considered the first real science fiction work.
9. Why did Frankenstein’s creature take revenge on him?
A. Because the creature wanted to become a real human.
B. Because Frankenstein tried to kill the creature right after its birth.
C. Because Frankenstein refused to take responsibility for his creation.
D. Because the creature was born with a violent and angry nature.
10. What issue did Mary Shelley intend to explore through her novel?
A. What problems will arise when humans create life without responsibility.
B. What the world will be like when machines think like humans.
C. How we can develop AI and cloning technologies in a safe manner.
D. Why people create life even if it is dangerous.
11. What does the passage mainly tell us?
A Mary Shelley’s personal life and the inspiration for her novel Frankenstein.
B. Frankenstein’s plot and its long-lasting moral warning for modern technology.
C. The similarities between Frankenstein’s creature and modern AI technologies.
D. The impact of the Industrial Revolution on the creation of science fiction works.

Consider a plastic bottle floating on the ocean’s surface, far from the coast. To the naked eye, it seems lifeless — just discarded waste floating on the waves. But up close, it is a lively habitat: bacteria gather in large groups, green seaweed grows into thin layers, small creatures live in water feed, and small shellfish attach firmly. This is the plastisphere, a new ecosystem formed by human waste — a term invented by marine microbiologist Linda Amaral-Zettler more than ten years ago, referring to unique groups of species living on plastic waste.
Unlike natural materials such as driftwood, which break down in months, plastics never fully degrade. They can last for up to 1,000 years, breaking into small pieces instead of disappearing completely. This long-lasting feature makes plastic a stable living place for marine creatures. The process of species settling on plastic follows a regular order: first, bacteria arrive and settle down, sending out chemical signals to draw other tiny organisms and forming sticky layers. Soon after, algae (藻类) and fungi (真菌) join in, building simple food chains. Later, larger organisms like barnacles come, and some use plastic as safe places to raise their young.
The movement of the plastisphere is worrying — ocean currents carry plastic across different regions, acting as “microbial roads” that transport species, including harmful bacteria and poisonous algae, to new ecosystems. In these sticky layers, harmful microbes exchange genetic material, becoming more dangerous or resistant to drugs. Although some microbes in the plastisphere may break down pollutants, the ability of this ecosystem to adapt also brings ecological damage.
Studies on the plastisphere confirm a simple fact: the only long-term solution is to reduce plastic production and our dependence on it in order to prevent pollution. It shows the adaptability of life and warns us of unexpected results — our desire for convenience has changed ocean life in ways we still do not fully understand.
12. What does the underlined word “plastisphere” mean in paragraph 1?
A. A type of plastic debris floating in oceans. B. A natural material that replaces plastic in oceans.
C. A group of marine microbes that break down plastic. D. A new ecosystem formed on plastic waste.
13. Why can plastic become a stable habitat for marine life?
A. It releases nutrients that support marine organisms.
B. It is lighter than driftwood and easier to float.
C. It breaks down slowly and lasts for a long time.
D. It is less likely to be damaged by ocean currents.
14. What is the sequence of settlement on plastic debris?
A. Algae→bacteria→fungi→larger organisms B. Bacteria→algae→fungi→larger organisms
C. Fungi→bacteria→algae→larger organisms D. Larger organisms→bacteria→algae→fungi
15. What is the author’s attitude towards the plastisphere?
A. Concerned about its negative environmental impacts.
B. Optimistic that it will solve ocean pollution.
C. Doubtful that it really exists in natural oceans.
D. Excited about its potential for scientific research.

How to Beat Brain Fog
Brain fog, a state of mental confusion and lack of focus, has become increasingly common among students. You may feel unable to concentrate on homework, struggle to recall what you’ve studied, or find simple tasks unusually tiring. ____16____ The good news is that with targeted efforts, you can effectively clear your mental fog and regain sharp thinking.
____17____ Our brains rely heavily on consistent, quality sleep to sort and store information. When you’re sleep-deprived, your cognitive functions drop dramatically, making brain fog worse. Aim for 7-9 hours of sleep each night, and try to go to bed and wake up at the same time daily to regulate your body clock.
Nutrition also plays a key role in fighting brain fog. What you eat and drink directly impacts your brain’s ability to function. Foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids, such as fish and nuts, help support brain cell health. Meanwhile, staying hydrated is crucial — even mild dehydration can cloud your thinking. ____18____
Regular physical activity is another powerful solution. It increases blood flow to the brain, delivering oxygen and nutrients that enhance cognitive performance.____19____ You don’t need intense workouts; a 15-minute walk, a quick set of stretches, or a short bike ride can make a noticeable difference in clearing your mind.
Last but not least, learn to manage mental overload. Constantly switching between tasks, scrolling through social media, or studying intensively for exams can overwhelm your brain.____20____ Take short breaks every 45-60 minutes, practice deep breathing, or try mindfulness exercises to reset your focus. Prioritizing tasks and avoiding multitasking will also reduce mental strain.
By combining good sleep, proper nutrition, regular exercise, and smart workload management, you can keep brain fog at bay and maintain peak mental clarity for your studies.
A. Long-time use of electronic devices harms brain health.
B. Lack of sleep is a main cause of brain fog.
C. For example, irregular eating habits may affect brain function.
D. Besides avoid too much sugar and processed foods, as they worsen mental tiredness.
E. In fact, not doing enough exercise often leads to poor blood flow in the brain.
F. In addition, giving your brain too many tasks at the same time weakens your judgment.
G. What’s more, it can seriously influence your study efficiency and learning progress.

47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Lila Carter, a 17-year-old high school student, lived with her single mom in a small town. Her mom worked two part-time jobs to cover their bills, and Lila often helped with housework after school. One winter afternoon, Lila’s mom fell ill with a high fever and had to stay in bed. To buy medicine and warm food, Lila took all their savings-only $20-and rushed to the downtown drugstore.
On her way, a strong wind blew her bag off her hand. The money scattered on the snowy street, and some bills were blown into a nearby drain. Lila knelt down. trying to reach the money, but it was too deep. She felt helpless and burst into tears — without that money, she couldn’t get the medicine her mom needed. Her shoulders shook violently as she stared at the dark drain, her heart sinking like a stone in the freezing cold. Passers-by hurried past, and wrapped themselves tightly in their coats, barely sparing her a glance, which made her feel even more desperate and alone.
A middle-aged man passing by noticed her. He introduced himself as Mr. Harris, who ran a small bookstore nearby. After Lila explained what happened, Mr. Harris didn’t hesitate to take out his wallet. He gave her $50 and said, “Take this for your mom’s medicine and meals.”
Lila thanked him repeatedly and promised to return the money as soon as possible. With the money, she bought the medicine and cooked hot soup for her mom, who felt much better the next day. The warm steam from the soup filled the small kitchen, carrying not just the scent of ginger and chicken, but also a glimmer of hope that Lila hadn’t felt for a long time.

Weeks later, Lila brought the 50 dollars she earned to Mr. Harris’ bookstore. The folded money felt warm in her palm, her hands trembling slightly with nervousness and gratitude. She had worked part-time after school for weeks to keep her promise. Mr. Harris smiled, pushing the money back. “No hurry to pay back,” he said. “Just pass the kindness on when someone needs help.” Lila nodded firmly, his words settling in her heart like soft raindrops, and offered to help in the bookstore thereafter.
One day, Lila saw a boy hesitantly staring at a book as she organized books. He lingered before the shelf then sighed to leave. She approached and asked what was wrong. The boy said he loved the story but couldn’t afford it. Inspired by Mr. Harris, Lila bought the book with her first week’s salary and gave it to him. The boy’s face lit up. Holding the book tightly, he choked out grateful thanks. Lila stood there smiling, truly keeping the kindness alive as Mr. Harris had taught her.
