Paint a Portrait (肖像) of Your Pet” at the Memorial Art Gallery (MAG). A hobby artist and frequenter of the MAG, Travis had never been to a creative workshop before. Still, Travis enjoyed herself. She praised the instructor, Joan Nichols, for her work engaging the class and her helpful advice for Travis’s portrait of a dog. Getting to talk about pets was a plus too. “I love that the commonality of it is just a pet, which most of the time brings happiness, even if you don’t know this person,” said Travis. Nichols has been a creative workshop painting instructor at the MAG for about two years. Between kick-starting hearty pet conversation and playing classic tunes like “Hey Jude”, she even had the class warm up with chair yoga. Nichols explained that integrating yoga, in some manner, into her classes helps to separate time for making art from the rest of the day. Yoga helps students to lighten up and concentrate when she’s teaching these one-session, low-commitment Art Starts classes that are only a few hours long. The class had two projects: first, the “Mangy Mutt”, a loose, casual outline of a pet. Second, the actual portrait of the pet. In contrast to what one might expect, Nichols wasn’t walking her students through the process. She just set out photos of her pets, boxes of material to make collages (拼贴画) with, and tubs of paint brushes and markers. Her students were free to make their portrait however they wanted. Beyond acquiring the artistic benefits of going to a class like this, Travis cited meeting people who share similar interests as added benefits. She said, “Museums and galleries always have been, at least for me, a safe space.” 4. How did Jude Travis actually find the workshop? A. Engaging and casual. B. Helpful and common. C. Traditional and effective. D. Enjoyable and rewarding. 5. Why did Nichols employ yoga in her classes? A. To start fun pet discussions. B. To make students relaxed and focused. C. To match the classic music. D. To attract students to exercise. 6. What made Nichols’s class project different? A. Encouraging free self-expression. B. Providing diverse artistic supplies. C. Emphasizing yoga as the core activity. D. Giving step-by-step portrait guidance. 7. What additional benefit did Travis get from the workshop? A. Inspiration for hobby artists. B. Professional painting techniques. C. Free access to museums and galleries. D. Social connection over shared interests. C The sea slugs (蛞蝓) in western Atlantic, Elysia crispata, are infamous thieves. While eating seaweeds, they harvest chloroplasts (叶绿体) which let plants turn sunlight into energy. These stolen cell parts keep functioning inside for about a year, giving the slugs a bright-green color and available food. Their crime once remained a mystery. A Cell paper led by Harvard biologists throws light. The slug builds bag-like structures from its own cells to house the stolen chloroplasts, thus stopping the immediate digesting in case of food shortage. “It’s a living lunch box growing on their back,” says the lead author Corey Allard. To reach this conclusion, his team fed slugs that had recently consumed seaweeds a chemical tag (标签) to identify any new proteins created within their bodies. Six hours later, the researchers obtained the stolen chloroplasts and analyzed the tagged proteins. Among them were signs of Rab7a, a protein usually found in processes when cells swallow foreign bodies. Observation under a powerful microscope confirmed that each stolen chloroplast was indeed wrapped in the bag-like structure. The researchers then investigated what the sea slugs do with the stolen chloroplasts by comparing the starvation resistance of Elysia crispata with that of another species, Aplysia californica. The latter storing no chloroplasts was found dead after about four weeks, while the green thief survived four months; subject to starvation, the green slugs switched from storing to digesting the chloroplasts, turning a telltale orange. Dr Allard is studying wider species to see if this process involved is entirely different. Such slimy tricks, or temporary endosymbiosis (内共生), have exciting implications for human evolutionary history. “Fundamental in the cell evolution to make complex life possible, endosymbiosis took millions of years, while the green slugs offer an insight into it within a single lifetime,” says Nicholas Bellono, a co-author of this latest study. There could be practical applications, too. Understanding the green slug’s trick could inform medicines that grant human cells new tools to fight brain or metabolic (代谢的) diseases, about which Dr Allard is particularly excited. In the natural world, it seems, theft pays handsomely. 8. While eating seaweeds, Elysia crispata harvests chloroplasts mainly to ________. A. digest seaweeds faster B. form a protective color C. build bag-like structures D. produce food by sunlight 9. What does the sign of Rab7a indicate about the sea slugs? A. They reject external materials. B. They turn sunlight into energy. C. They wrap chloroplasts in cells. D. They tag proteins with a chemical. 10. What was Elysia crispata’s secret in starvation resistance? A. It ate more seaweeds initially. B. It survived on stored chloroplasts. C. It stored energy for four months. D. Its body resisted starvation better. 11. What is the focus of the last paragraph? A. The history of human evolution. B. Medical inspiration from nature. C. The significance of the discovery. D. The follow-up study of the sea slugs. D When an artificial intelligence (AI) model generates passable poetry or images from text prompts (提示), we rush to credit it with human-like imagination. But can an AI imagine, or is it just mindlessly parroting training data? Iyad Rahwan at the Max Planck Institute for Human Development has spent a career trying to understand AI not just from a technical point of view, but as a social and behavioral phenomenon. He distinguishes two styles of imagination: one is combining concepts, like when an AI draws a chair in the shape of a pear on demand; the other is understanding the consequences and being able to develop plans. AI is capable of combining concepts, says Rahwan. When you ask a large language model complex questions, you realize it has at least some understanding of cause and effect. “At this mechanistic level, you could say machines can totally copy this process,” Rahwan says. “They do very good analogical (类比的) reasoning.” But given AI doesn’t yet possess and may never acquire consciousness or self-awareness, AI imagination will differ from ours: ours is rooted in bodies, senses and lived experience, theirs in oceans of data, vast computation, and the absence of experience-based understanding. As a result, AI’s brand of imagination is bound to vary in ways beyond human comprehension. Just as AI has beaten the world’s best human players at chess and Go, it may look at battlefield strategies and drug design with similarly fresh and capable eyes. “In principle, they may even have superior imagination to us in certain fields,” says Rahwan. But for the moment, at least Rahwan isn’t convinced that AI can imagine truly groundbreaking concepts like those dreamed up by human geniuses. “Could today’s machines, had they been trained on knowledge up to 1900, imagine general relativity?” asks Rahwan. “I don’t think so. But this is a very rare ability in humans too.” 12. What does the underlined word “parroting” in Paragraph 1 probably mean? A Repeating blindly. B. Imagining freely. C. Analyzing deeply. D. Creating originally. 13. What fundamentally distinguishes human imagination from AI’s? A. Combination of concepts. B. Bodily experience and senses. C. Knowledge of cause and effect. D. Analogical reasoning capacities. 14. What might Rahwan agree on AI’s imagination? A. It is already superior in strategy making. B. It excels that of human geniuses if trained. C. It makes no real breakthroughs as expected. D. It will develop in a mode defined by human. 15 What is a suitable title for the text? A. Can AI Really Imagine? B. What Is the Future of AI in Art? C. Is Imagination Unique to Humans? D. Will AI Beat Humans in Imagination? 第二节 (共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Last month, a fitness enthusiast friend explained why isometric exercises (等长运动), involving squeezing (挤压) and holding a muscle in a fixed position, are effective at lowering blood pressure. Since then, I have involved them into my own workouts. This got me wondering: do they offer any other benefits? ___16___ Isometric moves can build strength, prevent injuries and reduce pain as well. With no need for equipment or jumping, I can do them almost anytime, anywhere. One of the clearest advantages is the effectiveness. They build strength without much movement, making them less physically taxing (费力的) than more dynamic workouts. And 42 to 100 days of isometric training increased muscle strength by up to 92 per cent. ___17___ Athletes often use isometric exercises to get stronger at the toughest part of a movement, thus improving the overall performance. ___18___ Though unusual workouts — slow, controlled movements in the lowering phase of an exercise, are commonly used to prevent injuries in football players, isometric exercises are more effective. Isometric moves “wake up” signaling pathways between nerves and muscles, making the latter more responsive during exercise. ___19___ The exercise doesn’t just benefit athletes. A review this year showed isometrics significantly reduced pain and strengthened muscles in people with knee osteoarthritis (骨关节炎). ___20___ Considering their benefits, isometric exercises have earned a regular spot in my workout routine. Give them a squeeze — you’ll feel the difference today and carry the strength tomorrow. A. Yet they may injure those with heart issues. B. The strength gains can also be quite targeted. C. As it turns out, yes, and some were unexpected. D. Studies show they are less effective for weight loss. E. So people with limited mobility for injuries may find some relief. F. This may help correct muscle imbalances, a common cause of injury. G. Adding isometric moves to your warm-ups may also help prevent injuries. 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 The day began with hope: a long-awaited pre-publication review of my new novel had arrived. So, I signed up for an art class at our community centre. That’s where I met Rosemary. When I arrived, the place was packed with about twenty students, most seated with friends. I found the only empty table at the back. That’s when Rosemary rolled in. Very thin with scarf around her head, she wheeled herself to my table. I felt slightly awkward. Two elderly women joined us — both of them needed walking aids. It reminded me of high school’s unpopular table. Rosemary smiled, and her face transformed from a sad, sickly person to an angelic, hairless being. With no eyebrows or make-up, her beauty was real and natural. “|Hi! I’m Rosemary, fighting breast cancer!” she announced proudly. “I’m Pat,” I said. The six-week course began. We always sat together. By Week 3, I saw Rosemary as a lovely friend, not as a cancer patient. She missed Week 4. I feared the worst, but she returned in Week 5. “Bet you thought I died!” she chuckled (轻声地笑). On the final day, Rosemary invited me for coffee. She pulled out a small notebook. “Must write this down before I forget,” she said. “My mind is like a sieve (筛子).” We both laughed. I was drinking coffee while she was eating her second cupcake. I shared my job worries and sleepless nights. “Small things, Pat,” she smiled. “Small things?” I was confused. “Yes. After being diagnosed (确诊) with cancer, I listed things I felt grateful for instead of worrying. Things like the sun shone that day, and winter was almost over. I no longer worry about taking care of my hair.” She added, “You’d be amazed at how many small things there are to be grateful for. My last chemo (化疗) is coming up. And meeting you!” My eyes teared up. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Paragraph 1: Rosemary handed me her notebook, smiling brightly. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Paragraph 2: Six months later, I was sitting in my new office. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 冲刺新高考·2026届高考仿真模拟卷(T8) 英语试题(一) 试卷满分:150分 考试用时:120分钟 第一部分 听力(共两节,满分30分) 做题时,先将答案标在试卷上。 How much is the shirt? My key habit is daily reading, which I formed by setting a fixed evening time — starting with 15 minutes and gradually increasing it. Sticking to it required perseverance that kept me going every day. This habit has greatly influenced me. It broadens my knowledge and improves my vocabulary, and it also enhances my focus so much that I find it easier to concentrate on my studies now. The small habit brings benefits far beyond the books themselves. 第二节 (满分25分) 【47题答案】 【答案】Paragraph 1: Rosemary handed me her notebook, smiling brightly. I opened it and saw every page filled with small warm things she cherished: a butterfly by the window, a barista’s kind smile, warm sunshine on her hands, and our quiet painting moments. Tear stains slightly blurred the words, but joy shone through. She told me to keep it and jot down grateful moments when lost. I hugged her tightly, feeling warmth and strength I’d lacked. Her optimism was a light, guiding me out of unemployment’s darkness. Paragraph 2: Six months later, I was in my new office. On my desk lay Rosemary’s notebook, which I’d kept close daily. I followed her advice, recording small blessings— a successful interview, a stranger’s help, a hot cup of tea. These lifted my spirits and kept me positive. I’d heard from Rosemary: her chemo ended, and she was recovering well. I picked up the phone to share my new job and my grateful moments. Her lesson changed me forever: happiness lies in cherishing life’s small joys. 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
