English is very important in school. Do you know that school English can be different from everyday English? In school, people use some special sentences. Let’s guess their meanings.
Look at this: “Break a leg!” Does it mean you will break your leg? No! It means good luck. Teachers and classmates might say this to you before a test or a performance.
What about “Hit the books.”? It doesn’t mean hitting books with your hand. It means you should start studying hard. When exams are coming, your parents may tell you to hit the books.
“I’m over the moon.” is also an interesting sentence. It doesn’t mean you fly to the moon. It means you are extremely happy. For example, if you get a good grade, you can say “I’m o... the moon.”
“Bite the bullet.” may be hard to understand. It means you have to do something difficult or unpleasant but you do it bravely. Like when you don’t want to go to the dentist but you still go, you’re biting the bullet.
“Once in a blue moon.” means something happens very seldom. If you see a shooting star, you can say “It happens once in a blue moon.”
6. What does “Break a leg!” mean?
A. You will break your leg. B. You should run fast. C. Good luck. D. You should be careful.

Jim, a successful businessman, told the experience of his childhood when he was 12. His parents died. He was alone and didn’t get on well with others. People usually laughed at him. No one showed kindness to him.
His only friend was a dog named Tiger. He gave his dog enough to eat and drink, but sometimes he was not polite to it. He didn’t know that an unkind word sometimes could cut one’s heart like a knife.
One day as he walked down the street, a young lady was walking in front of him. Suddenly one of her bags dropped from her arms. As she stopped to pick it up, she dropped other bags. He came to help her. “Thank you, dear! You are a nice little boy!” she said kindly, smiling.

Minor Snow is the 20th solar term (节气) in the Chinese lunar calendar, and it is an important time for Chinese cuisine.
As the weather gets colder and temperatures drop below freezing in the north, it’s the perfect season for making dried and cured foods. This tradition of preparing meat for winter is seen in both rural areas and cities, with sausages and cured meats being common, as well as sweet wine made for the season.
A special food during this time is ciba, a type of sticky rice cake popular in the south. Made from glutinous rice that is pounded and steamed until white and sweet, it is often round, symbolizing the happiness of harvest and family reunions. In some areas, people also marinate (腌制) dried fish or make tasty pork soup.
Around Minor Snow, the Yellow River area may see its first snowfall. There’s a saying among farmers: “When Minor Snow fills the sky, a good harvest is ensured for the next year. ” Snow covering the wheat fields can kill some diseases and pests, and help decompose (分解) organic matter, which improves the soil for farming.
Let’s enjoy the special gifts of nature during Minor Snow. Make a pot of hot tea and enjoy the beautiful snowy scenery with family and friends.

Firstly, I work hard and do well in science subjects like physics and chemistry. And I’ve also improved my English by joining an after-school reading club. Secondly, I have made friends with some new classmates who are kind and helpful. We often study together and cheer each other on when we feel tired. Besides, I took part in a singing competition last month, which was exciting. All these experiences make me feel confident and happy. I believe my hard work will lead to a bright future.
