A
Climate change could have large impacts on food production across the world. Rising temperatures might boost crop production in cold regions but negatively impact production in warmer areas. Wheat and rice — which benefit from more CO2 in the atmosphere — could see growing output, while corn and sorghum (高粱) could see a decline with warmer temperatures.
Farmers can adjust their practices to a warmer climate in four key ways:
Farmers can change WHAT they plant. This could be an entirely different type of crop: corn instead of wheat. Or a different variety of a specific crop.
FOUR KEY WAYS
Farmers can change WHERE crops are planted. If temperatures rise in fall crop production can shift north or southwards towards more suitable temperatures.
Farmers can change HOW crops are managed. Giving crops the right amount of water, nutrition, and protection from insects and disease can help reduce some impacts of climate change.
Farmers can change WHEN they plant. Farmers can plant earlier or later in the year, depending on when spring arrives. Adjusting planting dates requires no additional cost or work.
A recent study by experts modeled three adaptation methods — changing WHAT, changing WHEN and changing both of them. The chart below shows their impact on the output of corn, rice, sorghum, soybean (大豆) and wheat.
These three adaptation methods can already go some way to relieve climate pressures in some countries. But, of course, we don’t only care about crop production at the global level. If farmers in particular regions — especially those that are most food-insecure — cannot adapt to climate change, this is still a major problem. So there is more we can do in the future.
1. What should farmers change if they are short of money and labour?
A. WHAT. B. WHERE. C. HOW. D. WHEN.
2. Which crop may benefit most if farmers plant improved varieties?
A. Rice. B. Corn. C. Sorghum. D. Wheat.
3 What should be done in the future?
A. To adopt the three methods. B. To help the farmers in need.
C. To focus on crop production. D. To move to colder regions.
B
Education is essential. It is equally important that all students have excellent educators in their life.
I’ve reflected on the impact my teachers have had, and will continue to have, in my life. From Mr. Bowker, who challenged me in math, to Mr. Bernsteen, my health teacher who taught me the value of hard work, my teachers have helped shape the student I am today. But one of the teachers who left a lasting impression on me was my summer school teacher, Mr. Davis, who impacted me beyond the classroom. He found time to connect with me on a personal level and talk to me after class. I felt like Mr. Davis cared about my academic success and was committed to setting an example of what’s possible.
Mr. Davis could relate to what it was like to be a rising ninth-grade black male in today’s society. He taught me how to speak up confidently and share my ideas with others. When I would put my hand down because I was unsure of my answer, Mr. Davis would immediately say, “No courage, no triumph.” He never made me feel inadequate; he encouraged me to always pursue knowledge because he, too, was learning every day. Mr. Davis helped me brave the challenges and take advantage of the opportunities.
I think having more black male teachers like Mr. Davis in the classroom could increase student success. They would share the background and experiences of many of their students and help build long-lasting teacher-student relationships. But, unfortunately, as the student population becomes more ethnically diverse, teachers in Nevada still are predominantly white. The numbers for black male teachers are more discouraging. Just 2 percent of teachers nationwide are black men.
But you can help change the numbers. Whether you decide to study education in college or graduate school, I hope more black males will consider teaching as a career. We, students of color need more examples of excellence and success in classrooms — examples who look like us.
4. Why are Mr. Bowker and Mr. Bernstein mentioned in Paragraph 2?
A. To prove their greater impact on the author. B. To introduce Mr. Davis and his deeper influence.
C. To extend gratitude for all their contributions. D. To credit teachers for academic progress.
5. What does the underlined word “triumph” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A. Confusion. B. Connection. C. Victory. D. Doubt.
6. What is the current situation of teachers in Nevada?
A. 2% of the staff are black males. B. Teachers have diverse ethnic backgrounds.
C. White teachers are in the majority. D. Black male teachers are sufficient in number.
7. What is the purpose of the text?
A. To share memories of various teachers. B. To urge black males to take up teaching.
C. To show the importance of educators. D. To advertise for black male teachers.
C
When Kari Leibowitz first arrived in the Norwegian city of Tromsø, she was both attracted by.and fearful of, the approaching winter. Two hundred miles north of the Arctic Circle, the city does not see the sun from mid-November to mid-January, a far cry from Stanford, California, where she had been studying before travelling to Norway.
In many countries, the short days of winter are thought to cause low mood, yet Tromsø’s residents do not show the similar wintertime depression. As a psychologist, Leibowitz was curious about the ways they lived with the long“polar night”.
Previous research shows that people who see stressful events as “challenges”, with an opportunity to learn and adapt, tend to cope much better than those who focus more on the threatening aspects — like the possibility of failure or embarrassment. To test whether a different outlook could also explain the resilience (适应力) of Tromsə’s residents, Leibowitz designed the “wintertime mindset scale”, asking participants to rate how much they agreed or disagreed with statements about winter such as“I love the coziness of winter.” and “Winter is boring.”
She found that participants’answers predicted their well-being over the coming months: the more they saw the winter as an exciting opportunity to enjoy an icy climate, the higher levels of overall mental health they have. Besides, Leibowitz found that these attitudes actually increase with latitude(纬度) — the positive mindset is most common where it’s most needed.
Indeed, many of Leibowitz’s friends embraced the possibility of skiing in the mountains, or having a warm drink in the candlelight. “There is this interaction between the culture you’re part of and the mindset growing out of it,” says Joar Vittersø, Leibowitz’s colleague at the Arctic University of Tromso.
Soon, Leibowitz found her own mindset shifting: She learned to love long walks with a headlamp guiding her path, and came to appreciate the“soft, peaceful” appearance of the city in the darkness. “Most people just hate the winter and feel like there’s nothing they can do about it... But once you put it in people’s heads that they have control over their mindset, that’s when something powerful happens,” says Leibowitz.
8. What do we know about the residents of Tromsø?
A. They are longing for the coming winter.
B. They see winter as an opportunity to work out.
C. They are likely to become depressed in winter.
D. They are seldom influenced by winter stress.
9. Why did Leibowitz carry out her research?
A. To prove wintertime depression as a challenge.
B To suggest the ways to deal with the hard winter.
C. To find out whether the previous theory applies to Tromsø.
D. To help the local inhabitants get through the long polar night.
10. What can we conclude from Leibowitz’s findings?
A. A positive mindset may indicate a high life satisfaction in winter.
B. Winter offers people a better opportunity to interact with friends.
C. People in high latitude are less optimistic when facing long dark nights.
D. Tromsø’s residents are negatively influenced by the environment.
11. Which of the following will Leibowitz most probably agree with?
A. People hate winter because they can do nothing.
B. Long walks help to change people’s mindset.
C. Awareness of control over mindset makes a difference.
D. It’s of great fun to ski in the winter mountains.
D
Usain Bolt burned about 10kcal of energy to win his gold during the 200 metre spring final at the Olympic Games, which could roughly power an old 60W light bulb for 11 minutes. If you could make use of all the power generated by all the athletes during the Games, you would still be nowhere close to reaching the 29.5 billion Watts consumed overall by the athletes, spectators and organizers over the event. We take sport for granted, but do we ever consider its cost to the planet?
From the water required to maintain the golf course during The Masters tournament to the hundreds of flights it takes to bring football fans to a World Cup, major sports events are not helping much in the fight against global heating. What’s more, there is a lack of recognition within sport of its responsibilities and little discussion about possible solutions.
This is strange, given that the effect works both ways: the climate crisis is not just affected by sports, but it is already having a negative impact on many sports. When ice-climber Will Gadd set out to conquer the world’s glaciers, he didn’t realize it would become a race against climate change. “I thought glaciers are there forever.” When he arrived at the summit, Gadd was shocked: “The ice…wasn’t there. The things I planned to climb were gone.”
Global heating is noticeable in other sports. Amy Steel played professional netball until she suffered from heatstroke after playing in 39℃ conditions and unfortunately, the damage was permanent. Not only that, but extreme weather events made more frequent as a result of global heating mean sporting events are more often delayed or canceled. This has cost sport billions in potential earnings.
Yet sport can be a powerful motivator: it can unite whole nations behind its teams. Could sport have a role to play in driving climate awareness? Will Gadd and Amy Steel are among many athletes who think so? One thing is certain. Sport must put climate change at the top of its agenda and decarbonize at a Usain Bolt-like pace to make a difference.
12. What is the main focus of the first paragraph?
A. Why do sports events consume energy?
B. How much power do athletes generate?
C. What is the energy impact of sports events?
D. How did Bolt contribute to the environment?
13. Why does the writer use Will Gadd and Amy Steel as examples?
A. They initiated eco-friendly sports practices.
B. They sustained permanent injuries in sports.
C. They fell victim to climate-related incidents.
D. They achieved record-breaking performances.
14. What effect of global heating on sports is mentioned in the text?
A. Stricter facility restrictions. B. Substantial financial losses.
C. Higher athlete training standards. D. Prolonged outdoor sports seasons.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?.
A. Sports in the Climate Crisis
B. Athletes against Global Heating
C. The Impact of Climate Change on Sport
D. The Environmental Cost of Outdoor Sports

There’s a certain magic in running. Throughout the majority of any given race, you’re in pain. Your lungs feel like an invisible hand is squeezing (挤压) them tight, and your muscles seem to have burning flames wrapping around them. Yet it’s just through this tough experience that a top runner is shaped.
My first cross-country coach told me that every race is run in three parts: first with the head, using strategy and patience; then with the body, using experience and training; and finally with the heart. I’ve carried this wisdom with me for hundreds of miles, but I’ll never forget the 5 km where it was the only thing that carried me across that finish line.
It was a course I’d run many times before. This particular race marked the season’s end, and my teammates hoped to set new personal records. Before the race, we walked the course, discussing goals and strategy. The cloudy, cool day was perfect for racing. Completing our course walk, we gathered at the starting line to do some last-minute stretches. The air was thick with tension. Then the gun fired and we were off.
Instantly, I started running with my head. Weaving (穿行) between runners, I managed to work my way up in the first 400 meters. Joining a group of my teammates, I, together with them, began to take the lead, offering a “good job” or “keep it up” to every runner we passed.
The first mile always passed in a state of excitement. When the second mile began, I focused on my body, breathing in through my nose and swinging my arms. Tiredness approached, but I pushed it away. All around me, excellence was on display. Runners from other teams encouraged each other, offering understanding pats on the back. In those moments, we felt unbeatable.
However, reality pulled me back to earth. My old friend, tiredness, settled in my muscles as I neared the third and final mile. Sweat rolled down into my eyes. It was time to finish the race with my heart.

(1)续写词数应为150个左右;

I felt a sharp pain in my legs, but I ignored it and kept running.

B 5. C 6. C 7. B

根据第二段中的“From Mr. (从在数学上对我严格要求的鲍克先生,到教会我努力价值的健康课老师伯恩斯汀先生,这些老师都帮助塑造了如今的我。但给我留下最深刻印象的是我的暑期学校老师戴维斯先生,他对我的影响超出了课堂)”可知,提及鲍克先生和伯恩斯汀先生是为了引出戴维斯先生以及他带来的更深层次的影响。故选B项。
【5题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“When I would put my hand down because I was unsure of my answer, Mr. Davis would immediately say, “No courage, no triumph.” He never made me feel inadequate; he encouraged me to always pursue knowledge because he, too, was learning every day. (每当我因为不确定答案而把手放下时,戴维斯先生总会立刻说:“没有勇气,就没有triumph。”他从来不会让我觉得自己能力不足,还鼓励我要始终坚持求知,因为他自己也在每天学习。)”可知,戴维斯先生是在鼓励作者要勇敢表达观点,由此推断“triumph”的意思是“成功”。故选C项。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中的“But, unfortunately, as the student population becomes more ethnically diverse, teachers in Nevada still are predominantly white. (但不幸的是,尽管学生群体的种族构成变得越来越多样化,内华达州的教师群体仍然以白人为主)”可知,内华达州目前的教师现状是白人教师占大多数。故选C项。

B. To suggest the ways to deal with the hard winter.
D 9. C 10. A 11. C

根据文章第二段“In many countries, the short days of winter are thought to cause low mood, yet Tromsø’s residents do not show the similar wintertime depression. (在许多国家,冬季的短暂白天被认为会导致情绪低落,但特罗姆瑟的居民并没有表现出类似的冬季抑郁)”可知,特罗姆瑟的居民很少受到冬季压力的影响。故选D。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段“To test whether a different outlook could also explain the resilience of Tromsø’s residents, Leibowitz designed the winter time mindset scale (为了测试不同的观点是否也能解释特罗姆瑟居民的适应力,Leibowitz设计了“冬季心态量表”) ”可知, Leibowitz进行研究是为了验证之前的理论是否适用于特罗姆瑟。
根据文章第四段“She found that participants’ answers predicted their well-being over the coming months: the more they saw the winter as an exciting opportunity to enjoy an icy climate, the higher levels of overall mental health they have.(她发现参与者的回答预测了他们未来几个月的幸福感:他们越将冬天视为享受寒冷气候的激动人心的机会,他们的整体心理健康水平就越高)”可知,积极的心态可能预示着冬季生活满意度较高。故选A。
根据文章最后一段“But once you put it in people’s heads that they have control over their mindset, that’s when something powerful happens,” says Leibowitz.(“但一旦你让人们意识到他们可以控制自己的心态,那就是强大的事情发生的时候,”Leibowitz说)”可知, Leibowitz最可能同意的是意识到对心态的控制会带来改变。故选C。
13 Why does the writer use Will Gadd and Amy Steel as examples?
A. They initiated eco-friendly sports practices.
B. They sustained permanent injuries in sports.
C. They fell victim to climate-related incidents.
D. They achieved record-breaking performances.
14. What effect of global heating on sports is mentioned in the text?
A. Stricter facility restrictions. B. Substantial financial losses.
C. Higher athlete training standards. D. Prolonged outdoor sports seasons.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?.
A. Sports in the Climate Crisis
B. Athletes against Global Heating
C. The Impact of Climate Change on Sport
D. The Environmental Cost of Outdoor Sports
C 13. C 14. B 15. A

由文章第一段“Usain Bolt burned about 10 kcal of energy to win his gold during the 200 metre spring final at the Olympic Games, which could roughly power an old 60W light bulb for 11 minutes. If you could make use of all the power generated by all the athletes during the Games, you would still be nowhere close to reaching the 29.5 billion Watts consumed overall by the athletes, spectators and organizers over the event. We take sport for granted, but do we ever consider its cost to the planet?
由文章第三段中“When ice-climber Will Gadd set out to conquer the world’s glaciers, he didn’t realize it would become a race against climate change. “I thought glaciers are there forever.” When he arrived at the summit, Gadd was shocked: “The ice…wasn’t there. The things I planned to climb were gone.”(当攀岩者威尔·盖德开始征服世界上的冰川时,他没有意识到这将成为一场与气候变化的赛跑。“我以为冰川是永远存在的。”当他到达顶峰时,盖德震惊了:“冰……不在那里。我计划攀登的东西都不见了。”)”以及第四段中“Amy Steel played professional netball until she suffered from heatstroke after playing in 39℃ conditions and unfortunately, the damage was permanent. (艾米·斯蒂尔在39℃的环境下打过职业无挡板篮球,直到中暑才退役,不幸的是,她的伤势是永久性的)”可推知,作者使用二人作为例子,是想说明气候对运动员的影响——他们成了气候相关事件的受害者。故选C。
【14题详解】
细节理解题。由文章第四段中“Not only that, but extreme weather events made more frequent as a result of global heating mean sporting events are more often delayed or canceled. This has cost sport billions in potential earnings. (不仅如此,由于全球变暖,极端天气事件更加频繁,这意味着体育赛事更经常被推迟或取消。这让体育界损失了数十亿美元的潜在收入)”可知,全球变暖造成体育运动重大财务损失。故选B。
【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段最后一句“We take sport for granted, but do we ever consider its cost to the planet?(我们认为体育运动是理所当然的,但我们是否考虑过它给地球带来的代价)”以及第三段第一句“This is strange, given that the effect works both ways: the climate crisis is not just affected by sports, but it is already having a negative impact on many sports.(这很奇怪,因为这种效应是双向的:气候危机不仅受到体育运动的影响,而且它已经对许多体育运动产生了负面影响)”,尤其是文章最后一段中“Sport must put climate change at the top of its agenda and decarbonize at a Usain Bolt-like pace to make a difference. (体育必须把气候变化放在议程的首位,以尤塞恩·博尔特那样的速度去碳化,才能有所作为)”可知,本文主要说明了气候危机与体育运动的关系。由此可知,Sports in the Climate Crisis(气候危机中的体育运动)适合作本文最佳标题。故选A。

根据上文“For me, those who travel the world aren’t running away from life.(对我来说,那些环游世界的人并不是在逃避生活)”可知,作者在反驳那些认为旅行是逃避生活的人。

空格后“capital of the Song Dynasty” (宋朝的都城)是对“Bianjing(汴京)”的同位语,需用定冠词the修饰。故填the。
故填to catch。
且主语travelers为复数,be动词为are。故填are hurrying。
故填are。
故填what。
serve as a window to...“作为通往……的窗口”。故填to。

注意:
(1)续写词数应为150个左右;
I felt a sharp pain in my legs, but I ignored it and kept running.

Before I could catch my breath, my teammates surrounded me, cheering loudly.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
I felt a sharp pain in my legs, but I ignored it and kept running. My mind went blank for a second, only the coach’s words echoing in my head — finish the race with your heart. I told myself not to give in, even when my lungs screamed for air and my legs felt like lead. Every step was a struggle, yet the thought of my teammates’ expectations and my own desire to push my limits kept me going. I focused on the finish line, a blurry red flag in the distance, and poured all my remaining strength into each stride. Finally, I crossed the line, almost collapsing to the ground.
Before I could catch my breath, my teammates surrounded me, cheering loudly. Their bright smiles and warm pats on the back instantly chased away my exhaustion. I felt a surge of pride and joy welling up in my heart — this was not just a personal victory, but a celebration of our joint effort. One of them handed me a bottle of water, and as I took a sip, I realized that the pain of the race had transformed into a precious memory. At that moment, I truly understood what the coach meant by running with the heart.
