Then how about an AI system? Let’s try ChatGPT. Tell it “Write a message in Spanish to a waiter. I’m peanut butter-free, so I’d like some sandwiches without peanut.” It produces a 5 passage. The AI system does more than just translate. It’s more like a 6 dinner guide.

Which would you be proud of, climbing to the top of Qomolangma (珠穆朗玛峰) or taking a helicopter (直升飞机) there?
As AI becomes more popular, people divide into two groups. Some go on learning languages. They want to exercise their brains, learn a lot about other cultures and 9 chat with foreign friends. Others show their 10 to the language learners. “Good for you, but that’s a bit painful for me,” they might say. What’s your opinion on this debate (讨论)? Is it still necessary to learn languages?

In the camp, the prisoners (囚犯) work all day and are really tired. But Guido pretends his tiredness is part of the game. Guido says to his son, “Look how many points we got today!” He also tells him imaginative stories about their “progress” in the game. He describes how close they are to winning the tank, making Giosuè’s eyes shine with 7 .
As the war nears its end, Guido hides Giosuè inside a small metal box. 8 , a soldier catches Guido. When walking away, he passes Giosuè’s hiding box. AI can help students with their studies in smart and practical ways, making learning easier and more interesting. But how to use AI well?
First, we can use AI to look up some information. When we meet hard concepts (概念) in maths, or confusing (难懂的) ideas in science, AI can explain them in simple words with examples. But we must remember to check if the information is ▲ . We can compare it with our textbooks or ask teachers, because AI sometimes makes mistakes and we shouldn’t just believe everything it says.
Second, AI is great at scheduling your study. It can ask us about our weak subjects and daily free time, then set reasonable tasks. For example, it might set 30 minutes for English reading each morning, 20 minutes for maths exercises after school, and 15 minutes to review what we learned before bed. This stops us from wasting time on unimportant things.
Also, AI works well as a language practice tool. If we want to improve English speaking, we can chat with AI, and it will correct our pronunciation and grammar mistakes. For writing, we can show AI our English essays (短文), and it will point out wrong sentence structures or give better word choices, helping us write more clearly.
Finally, we must control the time we spend on AI study. It’s better to spend no more than 1 hour each day. Too much screen time from using AI can make our eyes tired.
Using AI properly makes learning easier and more fun. It’s a helpful friend for students if we use it right.
1.Which of the following words can be put in “ ▲ ”?
A.useful B.correct C.direct D.necessary
2.What does the underlined word “scheduling” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.Improving. B.Comparing. C.Ending. D.Planning.
3.What can AI do to help with our English writing?
A.Tell us some useful grammar rules.
B.Point out wrong sentence structures or give better word choices.
C.Compare the writing with the textbook to find out mistakes.
D.Look up some information about the topic of the writing.
4.What’s the structure (结构) of the text (P1= Paragraph 1, …)?
A. B. C. D.
5.What’s the best title for the text?
A.Advantages and Disadvantages of AI B.Tips to Use AI Well

Memories sharing: How Children See Their Parents’ Jobs?
Tom: My mom writes children’s books. I loved it when she read to me, but I wished she’d play more instead of sitting at the computer writing. Then one day at school, we had to talk about a book, and I chose one of hers. My classmates were really amazed. Suddenly, my mom’s job seemed really cool!
Anna: My dad works at a radio station, but I didn’t know what he did until he took me to work one day. I saw the studio with all its equipment (设备), got to wear headphones and speak into a microphone. It was a lot of fun. I thought this kind of job was very interesting.
Bill: As a child, I had no idea what my mom did. I just knew she left early and came back late. “Financial analyst (金融分析师)” meant nothing to me. In nursery school, when we drew “My Mom at Work”, other kids drew nurses, teachers, or moms cooking at home. I thought those jobs were much more interesting. I just drew a fat woman in a suit with big earrings and a laptop.
Diane: Being a biologist’s daughter was fun. I liked bird-watching with my mom. I knew a biologist was someone who knew about animals, and I thought it meant not working too hard. My dad is a doctor—always at the hospital, all day and sometimes all night—while my mom often just sat at her desk writing something. So by age five, I’d decided it was better to be a biologist than a doctor.
1.Why did Tom think his mom’s job became “really cool”?
A.Because she took him to her workplace.
B.Because she started reading more stories to him.
C.Because she finally played with him instead of writing.
D.Because his classmates were amazed when he talked about her book.
2.Whose parent has a job that requires her/him to work at night sometimes?
A.Anna’s father. B.Diane’s father. C.Tom’s mother. D.Bill’s mother.
3.Where is this passage most likely taken from?
A.A science textbook. B.A novel about family life.
C.A job advertisement. D.A collection of online sharing.
Do you consider yourself a “math person”? Many students quickly say no. Research shows that feelings about math are shaped more by experiences and emotions than by natural ability.
Some students feel stressed or worried when doing everyday math-related tasks, such as planning how to use pocket money or adding up scores during games. These feelings are signs of math anxiety, which affects about 30% to 60% of students. Math anxiety often lowers school performance and makes it harder to develop useful skills or enter fields like science and technology.
Why does math anxiety have such an influence? One key reason is that math anxiety often triggers avoidance, a common behavior in anxiety disorders. For example, students may put off homework, skip classes, or choose courses with less math required. Avoidance brings comfort for a moment, but it makes learning harder and strengthens negative (消极的) beliefs. Consider students who once enjoyed math but start getting low grades: anxiety increases, engagement (参与度) drops, performance worsens, and the belief that they are “not a math person” grows—creating a cycle of struggle and avoidance.
Recognizing (识别) and addressing avoidance early can help prevent longer-term difficulties in school and future work. Present approaches (方法) for reducing math anxiety, however, have only limited effects. A promising approach to this problem is to use ideas from cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT,认知行为疗法), which teaches people to notice negative thoughts that cause anxiety and gradually face difficult situations. Unlike approaches that focus only on thoughts and emotions, CBT that stresses actions can more directly reduce avoidance, a key part in the cycle of anxiety and low performance.
Based on these ideas from CBT, students can also use simple strategies (策略) to build confidence. One is to practice math in low-pressure settings where they can work at their own pace (节奏) without worrying about grades or deadlines. Starting with small steps—like reviewing basic ideas or solving easy puzzles—can make math feel easier to manage. Short, regular practice each day can help make math a daily habit and gradually reduce stress. Another strategy is to use math in everyday situations. Activities like adding up costs for a project let students use math in familiar ways. With repeated practice in real situations, fear decreases, and students feel more in control and less likely to avoid math.
Math anxiety is not something to be afraid of, and it can be reduced through practice and effort. Facing avoidance and reshaping your approach can make tasks manageable, gradually turning math from fear into confidence.
1.Why does the writer mention the two examples in Paragraph 2?
A.To share some fun math activities.
B.To introduce some useful math skills.
C.To show daily tasks can lead to math anxiety.
D.To discuss what the nature of math anxiety is.
2.What does the word “triggers” in Paragraph 3 most probably mean?
A.Limits. B.Reduces. C.Causes. D.Overcomes.
3.According to the passage, what is helpful for building confidence in math?
A.Adding up daily expenses.
B.Taking part in math competitions.
C.Paying close attention to math scores.
D.Doing difficult math problems each day.

When I was a little girl, my parents were busy working, so I was always staying with my grandmother. She was a fan of Qinqiang Opera and would often hum the opera while cooking dinner. The sound of her voice, rich and filled with feelings, attracted me a lot. I would follow her, standing on a small chair in the kitchen. My voice filled the rooms, even though I seldom understood the lyrics.
One day, my grandmother noticed my interest and decided to teach me the basic singing skills. She showed me how to project my voice, how to move my hands and eyes to express feelings. At first, I had a hard time keeping up, but with her patience and encouragement, I performed well gradually.
As I grew older, my grandmother introduced me to more skills about performing Qinqiang Opera, including facial expressions and costume designs. She also told me that the performer’s feelings built the character, so I learned to put them into my performances, making each character come alive on stage (舞台).
Years passed, and I became more confident in my abilities. I started performing at local events, where my grandmother would proudly watch. Her smile of support filled me with joy and energy.

Why Learn Languages in the Age of AI?
On holiday, many will find themselves in foreign lands. Things are often different and new to them, 1 the language. In the past, they might have carried a dictionary with them. But nowadays more and more of them are using free translation apps not only to understand a passage but also to talk. With the conversation part on these apps, you can speak into the phone and 2 a spoken translation moments later.
Though that would always be helpful, some translation might 3 you. Take one of the best-known translation apps as an example. If we say “I’m peanut butter-free” to it, in French or Italian, the app translates it as “I’m without peanut butter.” It’s true to the words, 4 the meaning is totally wrong. The best tool may not be a translation app at all.
Some say that in this age of AI, people no longer need to learn a foreign language. Douglas Hofstadter, a polyglot (a man who speaks or understands many languages) 7 . He describes giving a difficult speech in Chinese. It takes a lot of work without the help of AI, but in the end, you feel a sense of 8 .
