When I became a grade 8 student, studying all subjects well wasn’t an easy job for me. I worked harder but made little progress. I felt disappointed and worried. Later, my classmate asked me to prepare a mistake-collection notebook. Now, I find it is a powerful tool to improve my study skills. I divide the notebook into sections for each subject. For example, one area is for math, another for English, and so on. When I find a mistake, I write the question on the notebook, and then write down the wrong answer. After I carefully correct (改正) it, I write down the right answer beside the wrong one. What’s more, I always add a short note to tell why I made the mistake.
I like to use colorful markers to make the notebook more fantastic. Yellow is for small, careless mistakes, and red is for bigger ones. This makes it easier to tell different kinds of mistakes apart. The different colors make me more willing to go through the notebook.
To make good use of the book, I read through the mistakes at least once a week. This helps me remember the right ways and avoid (避免) repeating the same mistakes. Also, before tests, I focus on these mistakes to see what I need to work on.
Now, I’m becoming a better learner.

I have learned English since I was 10 years old. Everything I was taught at school was about tenses (时态) and other complex grammar. Every day, my teacher asked us to copy new words 10 times. Slowly, I got fed up with reciting (背诵) vocabulary and grammar rules. And learning English became something I disliked.
When I was in 10th grade, my parents bought me a computer. From then on, it became my best helper. I began to learn English through interesting learning materials on the Internet, and it was also when I fell in love with the language. I began to listen to music and watch TV shows. Besides, I found many websites. People from all over the world exchanged cultures with each other on those websites. I made a lot of foreign friends there, and we talked about everything in life.
At first, I thought that people wanted to communicate with each other, so they learned English. When I fully learned the language, I found something important: Through language, I can deeply connect with all the knowledge in the world.
Thanks to English, I have learned much more about the world around me. The journey towards language fluency (流利) is not always easy, and I still have a long way to go. I won’t, however, give up on it.

Some students often complain (抱怨) about learning English. The subject, they say, takes up too much of their time. They have to read many passages, look up new words in the dictionary and do lots of exercises. Although they work hard, they still can’t get good scores in tests. “Why?” they ask. “How can I enjoy success?”
The story of Chinese astronaut (宇航员) Deng Qingming might help to answer their questions. Deng was chosen as an astronaut trainee (接受培训者) in 1998. Since that day, he has spent almost all of his time training hard to become an astronaut. Over the years, Deng has always seen trainees go into space one after another. However, he was still a backup (后备人员). He often felt sad. Sometimes, he even cried. But Deng never gave up. Although he is now in his fifties, he keeps training hard. “I must be ready whenever the chance comes to me,” he once said. Finally, on the night of November 29, 2022, he and two other astronauts boarded the Shenzhou-15 spaceship and flew into space. Deng had waited about 25 years for this very moment.
So, if you want to give up learning English (or something else), think about Deng’s story. Your efforts might not pay off immediately (立即,马上). Be patient. Try to improve your methods and keep going. One day, success will knock at your door. Being different from Deng, you probably won’t even have to wait about 25 years for that moment!

5.What does the writer want to show by telling the story of Deng Qingming?
A.Don’t complain when you meet difficulties.
B.Don’t give up and keep going, and you will succeed.
C.You’ll get good scores in tests if you work hard.
D.You’ll have to wait about 25 years if you want to succeed.
Pi (π) has endless (无穷尽的) numbers. Many people want to remember some of the numbers. But it’s difficult. In fact, there are many ways to do it.
First, write out Pi to the numbers you hope to remember. Then group the numbers. Start with groups that have four numbers in each one of them. Third, start small. The easiest way to remember anything is by starting with a small group. You don’t have to push yourself to cram 100 numbers into your head at once. Start by remembering four groups of four numbers each. You can slowly work your way up to ten groups of four numbers each. Then you’ll be able to remember larger groups.
It’s easier to remember other things, like telephone numbers. If you group Pi into groups of ten numbers, you can put the numbers into telephone number order (顺序), which is much easier to remember. You need to write your groups of ten numbers on cards. Then you can take the cards with you and recite (背诵) them wherever you go.
1.People find it is ________ to remember Pi (π) in the passage.
A.easy B.interesting C.hard D.meaningless
2.The underlined word “cram” in Paragraph 3 probably means “________”.
A.try your best to remember something
B.cut the things into small parts
C.say you are unhappy about something
D.think about the things carefully
3.How can we remember Pi (π) in telephone number order?
A.By putting the numbers in your cellphones.
B.By writing groups of ten numbers on cards and reciting them.
C.By thinking of the numbers as names and things.
D.By remembering four groups of four numbers each.
4.What’s the best title of the text?
A.How to Use Pi(π) B.How to Group Pi(π)
C.How to Work Out Pi(π) D.How to Remember Pi(π)

Have you ever wondered how people learn? It happens in the brain, but what exactly occurs (发生) to make learning happen? Is there anything people can do to make learning easier?
Most experts agree that learning is about memory. When a person discovers a new idea, their brain stores the information. New information exists (存在) in the brain as part of short-term memory. That means the brain will not keep the new knowledge unless it becomes part of the brain’s long-term memory. For that to happen, the brain has to decide that the information is important enough to keep. So, for learning, the question is, how do we make the brain believe that new information is important?
Have you ever heard that “practice makes perfect”? That’s because the act of repetition teaches your brain that the skill or information is important. And this makes it more likely for the new knowledge to become part of your long-term memory.
For learning, you can also try connecting a new idea to your background knowledge. When the brain sees a connection between a new idea and something else you’ve already learned, it’s more likely to store it away as long-term memory.
Another way is to go to someone who’s already an expert in the new concept (概念). Ask them to model their thinking or process for you. It can help you learn to look at the new information in a new way that may make it easier for you to learn.
And a final piece of advice for learning: Spread your studying over a few days and study for shorter periods with rest in between. Remember that learning is like exercise for your brain. Rest time is just as important as study time!
1.What does the underlined word “that” in Paragraph 2 refer to?
A.Creating a good idea.
B.Discovering a new idea.
C.Keeping new information as part of long-term memory.
D.Remembering new knowledge as part of short-term memory.
2.Which of the following learning methods can help you think in a different way?
A.Practice over and over again.
B.Talk to an expert in the new concept.
C.Study for shorter periods with rest in between.
D.Connect a new idea to background knowledge.
3.What’s the main purpose of the writer writing this text?
A.To tell a story. B.To ask for help.
C.To offer some advice. D.To explain a concept.
4.How is the text organized? (①=Paragraph 1, ②=Paragraph 2,…)
A.B.C. D.
How Sitcoms Can Teach You Real English
①Learning a new language can sometimes make you feel slow and bored. There always seems to be so much to remember. However, an American writer once said, “What we learn with pleasure, we never forget.” So, why not make learning more enjoyable? What could be more fun than watching sitcoms?
②Watching sitcoms is a great way to learn everyday English. Instead of boring textbook sentences, you hear how people really speak. Characters talk using feelings, jokes and slang (俚语) which makes the English come alive.
③Another advantage is learning language you won’t find in textbooks. For example, Joey from Friends often says, “How you do in’?” while Sheldon from The Big Bang Theory always says “Bazinga!” after telling a joke. These phrases are short, easy to remember, and can be fun to use when you talk with native speakers.
④Of course, this doesn’t mean it’s an easy method. For beginners, it can feel difficult. The characters might speak too fast to understand. But as a language expert suggests, the secret is to watch actively.
⑤First, watch a scene with subtitles (字幕) in your language. Then, watch it again with English subtitles. Next, try without subtitles to see how much you understand. What’s more, she suggests starting with just five to ten minutes’ short scenes then rewatching them and keeping a list of useful phrases you can use in real life. So next time you watch your favorite English-language show, you might be surprised by how much you can learn!
⑥Watching sitcoms is an enjoyable and useful way to learn English. As long as you follow the right steps, you can make progress while having fun.
1.What is the advantage of learning English from sitcoms?
A.It is the fastest way to learn English. B.It teaches you how people really speak.
C.It helps you learn English in textbooks. D.It helps you make foreign friends.
2.Why does the writer mention the examples in paragraph 3?
A.To introduce two famous TV stars. B.To compare two different TV comedies.
C.To explain what “Bazinga” means. D.To show that TV phrases are short and fun.
3.What is the structure of the passage?
A.①/②③/④⑤/⑥. B.①/②③④/⑤⑥.
C.①/②③/④/⑤⑥. D.①②③/④⑤/⑥.
4.What is the writer’s main purpose in writing this passage?
A.To tell the stories of some language experts.
B.To explain why learning English is difficult.
C.To share a more enjoyable way to learn English.
D.To introduce the best American TV comedies.

重难语篇练习
A.B.C. D.
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.C 4.A
【导语】本文主要讲述了如何利用大脑接收新信息和学习新的知识,并提供了一些学习建议。
1.词句猜测题。根据“That means the brain will not keep the new knowledge unless it becomes part of the brain’s long-term memory. For that to happen…”可知,大脑不会保留新知识,除非它成为大脑长期记忆的一部分。因此,“that”指的是“将新信息作为长期记忆的一部分”的过程,故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据“Another way is to go to someone who’s already an expert in the new concept… It can help you learn to look at the new information in a new way…”
