Facebook was running my life
But what killed Facebook for me was when I posted a photo, and five minutes later my son asked
me how many "likes"it had got.His question was a wake-up call.
"Likes"are signs of acceptance and approval().I had forgotten that acceptance and approval
need to come from within and had unknowingly set him a bad example.
Before absorbed in Facebook,I spent a lot more time reading books and magazines.I checked in
with friends through texts, emails and phone calls.
To set a healthier example to my son,I deactivated my Facebook account.
I'd been in the habit of checking Facebook many times a day,so I had to come up with some new
habits.I carried a novel and a crossword puzzle book around with me.I rediscovered knitting.I started
taking yoga classes.
I started to remember a few things. My body is fine just the way it is.I have friends who will help
me out when I'm in trouble, and I will help them out.I do my best to be a good mother, and our son is

There's a whole lot of things that people fill their stomachs with. Some of them keep people alive.
Some of them taste good to people. Some of them help people win pie-eating contests.Alcohol does
none of those things. Why do people keep drinking it?And what does it do once it gets to their
stomachs?
There are all kinds of alcohol molecules ()but the one that people most often pour down
their throat is ethanol ()Ethanol is very tiny and it dissolves in water,so it gets into all sorts of
places that it's not supposed to.Alcohol heads for the digestive system.Because it dissolves in water,it
can get into the water in the bloodstream.Because ethanol,to a certain extent, can pass through cell
membranes ()It can go almost anywhere. It spreads through the muscles, and is sweated-
unmetabolized(未经新陈代新的)and whole一through the skin.It gets into the heart. It even takes a
walk through the brain, and this is the secret of its powers.
Alcohol depresses the nerves, and the nerves affect almost every area of the body.Enough alcohol
makes people sleep,so people who become unconscious choke on their own vomit )Most
worryingly, enough alcohol can shut down those parts of the brain just like any other parts.People
become unconscious and their brains simply forget to breathe.
Alcohol is broken down in the liver.Alcohol doesn't destroy the liver, but products that the liver
breaks the alcohol into do cause damage.A glass of wine per day can not do any harm.Instead,it can

prevent heart attacks or can make someone functionally young. And it is kind of nice to know that
sometimes, relaxation and cheer can be bottled. All that's needed is to take care how much alcohol is let
into a person's brain.
61.How does the author introduce the topic of the text?
A.By statement.B.By question.
C.By arguing.
D.By explaining.
62.Why can Alcohol reach the brain?
A.Because it can move through water molecules in the blood.
B.Because it is small enough to get through any narrow space.
C.Because it is so light that the bloodstream can transport it.
D.Because it is absorbed only by the cells in the stomach.
63.What's the main idea of Paragraph 3?

In the past,I usually saw my grandchildren on holidays. When I did visit them, the children loved
to have me dance and show them a few steps. They would wear homemade costumes and do a show for
their mommies and daddies. We would perform many times during my visit.
It wasn't until I moved to Indiana and lived close to Carolyn that I acquired my full-time student.
She wanted to learn new steps all the time and understood them quickly. She tried to teach me,too.I
always wanted to do the splits ()and Carolyn, who could literally jump into them both ways,
worked very hard to help me do that.
For our first performance,Carolyn and I decided to do something simple. We wore matching
costumes一black velvet(天鹅绒)leotards with little skirts,,lots of bling,feathered hats,and
shimmering dancing hose.We took center stage in the middle of a beach house at a family reunion later
in the year, and we were quite a hit. From then on,we were invited to give lots of performances,

Ley chose a classical play for us to perform for our parents. I'd never performed on any stage or even sound publicly, so I had no idea whether i'd be any good. However, I soon got engaged in all the preparations, learning my lines and choosing the costume. I was given quite a big part to play because my classmates believed I had a powerful voice. We had lots of practice, and soon everyone could remember their words perfectly. That part went smoothly. After that, we all got to see what we were going to wear for the performance. My costume was a beautiful, long dress in a quite old fashioned style. A bit long though, we contacted the costume designer and had that problem solved easily.
