Food labels carry useful information to help you make informed choices about what you and your family
eat and drink.Food Labels tell you all sorts of information, including but not limited to the following:
Date marking:Use-by and best-before dates
Foods with a shelf life of less than 2 years must have a best-before or use-by date.
The best-before date refers to food quality.Once the best-before date has passed, the food may still be safe
to consume, but it may have lost some quality and nutritional value.Products with a best-before date can
legally be sold after that date, provided the product is still fit for human consumption.
Foods that should not be consumed after a certain date for health and safety reasons must have a use-by
date. This means they cannot be sold after that date. You will find use-by dates on foods with a short shelf life,
such as meat, fish and dairy products
Nutrition Facts
Nutrition Facts tell you the quantity of various nutrients a food contains per serve,as well as per 100g or
100ml.
Ingredients(配料)
All ingredients must be listed in descending order by weight, including added water. The first ingredient
listed contributed the largest amount and the last ingredient listed contributed the least.

"Are you still climbing all those stairs?'The question comes after friends say,"You're looking good,"
considerately not adding,“for your age..”
"Yup.Still tapping up and down."I do a little soft shoe dancing for emphasis."Just like Shirley Temple
and Bill Whatzisname in that musical years ago."
They shake their heads.Same old question, same old response. They've been joking with us about our
hardwood stairs ever since we bought this old farmhouse 50 years ago.
There were three flights, one from the main floor bending to the second,a narrow flight to the third-floor
rooms, and narrow stairs down to the basement. The stairs didn't seem a problem when we moved in.We were
younger, livelier and ran up and down many times a day without concern.Though as we grew older, carry ing a
load of freshly washed clothes from the basement to the third floor could be tiring and we'd have to pause to
catch our breath on the landings.
Our daughter brought a friend over to meet the"old folks at home"and on his very first visit he looked up
at the stairs and said,"These could be dangerous.Have you ever thought about putting rubber treads on them?
We did so at the request of my daughter, but we removed them later because they were dust collectors.
Our son, home from the West Coast for a visit but really to check on his aging parents, suggested,"You
might investigate one of those lifts where you sit down, press a button and rise up."
"What happens if there's a power failure?we protested."And our legs have weakened because of no
exercise.”
Some people run, some drive to the gym,and others wear watches to count their steps. But a few trips up
and down stairs after breakfast get my blood flowing and the muscles working and I'm set for the day.
Occasionally my back aches and I'm reduced to a snail's pace. But speed is no longer a priority.
24.What does the author intend to do by responding to her friends in that manner?
A.Show her gratitude for their concern.
B.Defend her daily habit of using stairs.
C.Stop them from asking the same question.
D.Hide her embarrassment about the broken stairs.
25.What troubles the author's children most about the stairs?
A.Their safety.
B.Their appearance.
C.Their maintenance.
D.Their effectiveness.
26.How do the stairs benefit the author?
A.They provide a sense of belonging.
B.They serve as a reminder ofher past.
C.They help her stay active and mobile
D.They offer a beautiful view of the surrounding area.
27.What sort of person is the author?
A.Athletic and determined.
B.Sensitive and traditional.
C.Practical and economical.
D.Optimistic and independent.

Imagine a world where food security relies on just a few crops. This is not fiction but our current path
Agricultural biodiversity-the lifeblood of flexible ecosystems-is collapsing due to climate change, habitat
destruction, and industrial farming.Over 75%of plant genetic diversity has disappeared in a century, with just
nine species now dominating global crop production.Such reliance on uniform crops leaves food systems open
to pests,diseases,and climate extremes.
Genetic diversity acts as a natural barrier against environmental changes.Different crop varieties respond
differently to stressors, providing farmers with options to manage risks. When one crop fails, others can
compensate, helping to safeguard harvests and livelihoods. However,as the diversity on our farms drops,
farmers have fewer tools to adapt to the growing challenge brought on by environmental change.
The fall brings numerous consequences, and human health suffers as well.Global diets now center on
energy-rich but nutrient-poor food,resulting in 11 million annual diet-related deaths.And reduced access to
diverse fruits and vegetables worsens malnutrition(营养不良)globally.
Turning the trend around requires a multi-aspect approach that combines conservation, sustainable
farming practices, and scientific innovation.Central to these efforts is the conservation of genetic resources-
the seeds, genes, and living organisms that sustain our food systems. The global genebank network developed
by CGIAR conserves over 700,000 accessions of more than 3000 locally important and less well-known plant
species.Sending samples out to thousands of requesters worldwide every year,it brings diversity back into
communities, fields, and landscapes. We ourselves also need to bring biodiversity back into our fields.
Agroecological practices, such as crop alternation, intercropping, and agroforestry, capitalize on the power of
biodiversity to enhance soil health, control pests, and improve water use efficiency.
Biodiversity is our insurance against environmental uncertainty. But like any insurance,it only works if
we maintain it.Today's choices determine tomorrow's food recovery capacity.By boosting conservation and
innovation,we can safeguard the genetic foundation of our survival. The seeds of the future are in our hands-
let them thrive.
28.What is discussed regarding global agriculture?
A.The decline of agricultural biodiversity.
B.The mismatch of food supply and demand.
C.The lack of advanced agricultural technology
D.The overuse of chemical fertilizers in farming
29.What does the underlined word"compensate"in paragraph 2 mean?
A.Suffer from the risk.
B.Speed up the recovery
C.Make up for the loss.
D.Increase the diversity.
30.What is paragraph 4 mainly about?
A.The role of CGIAR.
B.Impacts of farming practices.
C.Measures to increase biodiversity.
D.The importance of genetic diversity.
31.What does the author agree with?
A.Immediate human action is vital.
B.Future global food supply is assured.
C.Buying insurance for crops is a must
D.Traditional genetic seeds are hard to survive.
D
Spending time in space might sound thrilling, but it takes a serious impact on the human body.
Weightlessness affects everything from muscles to blood flow.Hence, before astronauts head to the Moon or
Mars, scientists must find ways to reduce the physical effects of long-term space travel.
To help, ten healthy male volunteers aged from 20 to 40 with no allergies or dietary restrictions signed up
for an unusual challenge, agreeing to spend ten days lying flat in a lab in France.Run by the European Space
Agency (ESA),the experiment began on March 13,2025,where the volunteers stayed in bathtub-like
containers covered with waterproof fabric, floating chest-deep in water (arms and heads above surface). These
temporary waterbeds were designed to make like the weightlessness experienced in space.Meals were eaten
flat on their backs, with pillows folded behind for support.Even bathroom trips were an adventure. The
volunteers had to stay stretched out while being rolled away on a handcart!
This method, called dry immersion, offers a cheaper and simpler way to study how the body reacts to the
absence of gravity. It produces many of the same effects, including blood rushing to the head and bone and
muscle loss. After the ten-day immersion, the volunteers stayed at the lab for another five days for medical tests
and recovery routines, which allowed the researchers to monitor how their bodies adjusted to normal conditions
Ten days after leaving the facility, the men returned for a final checkup to ensure there were no persistent
effects from the experiment.
ESA scientists believe that data from this study-and others like it-will be key to preparing astronauts
for deep-space missions. However, the benefits of this research could also be of use to help people on Earth.
Study ing how the body responds to long periods of inactivity might lead to better treatments for laid-up patients,
the elderly, and those with mobility issues.
"Bridging the gap between spaceflight and ground-based research is essential for human space
exploration,"said Marc-Antoine Custaud, who led the study."Our findings have significant implications for
Earth-based medicine,particularly in age-related conditions."
32.What did volunteers have to do during the experiment?
A.They needed to taste a variety of food.
B.They had to stay in a space-like environment.
C.They were kept dry during the whole process.
D.They were involved in the research for ten days in total.
33.Who might benefit from the research?
A.Patients with blood disease.
B.Astronauts with social issues.
C.Seniors with limited health checkup.
D.Youngsters with movement problems.
34.What did Custaud emphasize about the research?
A.Its process.
B.Its significance.
C.Its principle.
D.Its application.
35.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Space Travel:Its profound Benefits for Zero-Gravity Research.
B.ESA's Dry Immersion Experiment:A good way to Study Universe.
C.Lying Flat for Science:Ten Volunteers Joined to Aid Space Travel.
D.The Impact of Weightlessness:How Astronauts Cope with Space Travel.

As an enthusiastic reader,I've always believed that the key to understanding the world lies in the pages of
a book.36 They introduce us to characters who feel as real as the people around us.This connection
between readers and the text is what makes literature so powerful, and it's why I value my personal library. It's
a collection that reflects my journey through the world of words.
My library is not vast, but each book is carefully chosen.I have a mix of types in my collection, ranging
from classic literature to contemporary fiction.37Each type offers a different perspective,a new way of
looking at life. While some books challenge my thinking, others provide comfort. It's important to have a
balance.A well-organized library is like a well-balanced diet for the mind.
Among my favourites are the works of Jane Austen and George Orwell.Austen's sharp observations on
society and relationships are timeless. Her characters are imperfect yet charming.Orwell,on the other hand,
offers a stark (view of the world.38 Both authors, though different in style, have taught me
invaluable lessons about humanity.
39 Biographies (and life stories offer insights into the lives of extraordinary individuals
They remind us that greatness comes in many forms.Reading about the struggles and successes of others can
be incredibly inspiring. It's a reminder that we all have the potential to make a difference. These stories
encourage me to reflect on my own life and what I wish to leave behind.
My library is a reflection of who I am.It's a sign of my love of learning and my desire to understand the
world. Each book is a stepping stone on my journey of discovery. They are companions in loneliness and
guides in times of uncertainty.40
A.I also enjoy non-fiction.
B.I believe in the power of variety.
C.My library goes beyond a collection of books.
D.His stories are a warning and a call to action.
E.Through them,I continue to explore,to grow,and to dream.
F.The stories we read shape our world view and broaden our minds.
G.Historical fiction,in particular,holds a special place in my heart.
第三部分语言运用(共三节,满分45分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分)
阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
I remember opening my iPad one day in fifth grade, inspired by a lighthearted conversation with my
cousin about scary stories.Hours later,I had 41 my first short story.Writing 42 became a
beloved hobby,but as I grew older,the 43 began to fade.I started reading more books,encountering
critiques online, and comparing my work to others.Self-doubt crept in,and what once felt like a creative outlet
became a source of 44.I felt I had to be"good"at writing to share it.
This 45 happens often.Hobbies start as a form of 46,a way to relax ourselves.Yet,over
time, societal pressures to 47 can change how we view them.Whether it's painting, playing an
instrument,or any other 48,there's an expectation to perform at a high level. When we don't meet that
standard, the joy fades, replaced by feelings of inadequacy.
For me,writing has been the one hobby I've regularly returned to,49 moments of self-doubt.
I've taken creative writing classes and seen significant improvement, but the constant 50 for
perfection turns writing from a 51 into a chore.I've come to realize that this mindset 52
me
of the joy I once found in it.
We need to recognize that it's 53 not to be great at something.Perfection is often 54
and more often than not,we are our toughest critics. The challenge, then,is finding balance between enjoyment
and 55,Embrace imperfection,and enjoy the process,even ifyou're not"great"at it.

Mrs.Anderson,an old lady, had lived in this neighborhood alone after her child flew the nest, suffering
the feeling of isolation and insecurity. And the old house next door to her had been empty for years, its door
and windows dusty. One day,she was gazing at her beloved garden from her window when a moving truck
pulled up,catching her eye.
A young woman stepped out of the truck. She looked tired and overwhelmed, carrying a heavy backpack
and guiding two little kids towards the unfamiliar house.Mrs.Anderson felt a pang of sympathy.Without a
second thought, she stood up,smoothed her apron ()and walked out."Hello there!Welcome to the
neighborhood,"she said with a warm smile."I'm Clara Anderson.Need any help?
The young woman looked up,surprise and relief washing over her face."Oh,thank you! That would be
wonderful.I'm Sarah,and these are my kids,Lily and Leo.It's been...a bit of a day."Mrs.Anderson offered to
watch the children for an hour so Sarah could unpack in peace, for the old lady knew all too well what it was
like to be alone.
Mrs.Anderson didn't just help for that afternoon. She brought over homemade biscuits the next day,
accompanied by some lovely flowers from her garden."These flowers are so beautiful,Mrs.Anderson,"Sarah
exclaimed, her eyes lighting up as she caught sight of the vibrant colors.Mrs.Anderson smiled warmly.
"Thank you, dear. They are what I care most about every day.I believe life blooms when you put in the care,
day after day.”

Paral.Weeks passed, and the two families formed an unexpected bond.Laughter frequently
echoed from Mrs.Anderson's house now, thanks to Sarah's regular visits with her children.
The garden witnessed the two families'deep connection. They would often water the vibrant
blooms together,Lily and Leo running happily around them. One sunny afternoon,as they
shared the joyful moment,Sarah smiled and said,"These flowers are thriving-If only I had
my own."Mrs.Anderson's face lit up:"We can make joint efforts. This Sunday is a perfect
moment."Ultimately,the day arrived.
Para2:Sarah came to the garden as promised but Mrs.Anderson didn't appear.Cuiosity
coming over her,she knocked softly only to find Mrs.Anderson in bed, weak and pale
Without hesitation,Sarah called an ambulance and stayed to care for her. When Mrs.Anderson

me."It was through this experience that they both understood the true warmth of community
lies in this beautiful cycle of giving and receiving.

Text 10
My name's Kelly Robinson and I make cartoons for a living.I do this on computers and I've been doing the
job since I left university.Although I now know almost as much about computing as I do about cartoon
design,I actually studied art for my degree.I got a job with a major film studio soon after leaving university
It's a great company to work for.The software programmes we use for making cartoons are really good,"but
it's the people there that make it such a fantastic place to work. Each department has its own special job to do
when we're making a cartoon film. For example,"the one I'm in works on animals in the story, while others
focus on the human characters or the buildings. It's then the director's job to bring everything together. Some
companies make cartoons the old-fashioned way using thousands of individual drawings but this takes a long
time.Using this technique,it can take about two years to create a full-length film.Compare that to the eight
months it takes my company to do the same and you see the advantage of using computers. My next cartoon
project will be something for a website.I think it'll be an interesting challenge.
