After watching the show, she became more interested in dolphins and wanted to know about the animals, so she looked up more information about dolphins on the Internet.
Communication (交流)
Every dolphin has its own “name”. And the “name” is a special whistle (哨声). When a dolphin is born, it usually has an unusual whistle for itself. Dolphins “talk” to each other about a lot of things, such as their age, feelings, and finding food. They also use sounds and body language to communicate.
Play
Dolphins live in groups, and they often join others from different groups to play games and have fun, just like people. Scientists believe only smart animals can play together.
Teamwork
Dolphins make plans for getting things they want like people. In the seas of southern Brazil, when there are fish near a boat, dolphins make a sound to the fishermen. Chen Kaiyin from Beijing pays 2,000 yuan and “adopts (领养)” a panda at Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo. The zoo will use the money to buy food for its animals. As for Chen, she can learn about the panda’s daily life online and go to the zoo for free. She can also have the chance to look after the animal.
Animals like golden monkeys and tigers are also on the adoption list, according to the zoo’s WeChat account. Each animal has its own profile including (包括) a photo, its age, and personality. People can adopt the animals in their own name, in the name of their family or school.
The number of visitors goes down greatly. While online adoption helps the Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo get over (克服) hard times.
Like Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo, many zoos also face the same kind of problems. ▲ Shanghai Wildlife Park livestreams (网上直播) from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. every day to show how the animals live. Thousands of people watch pandas eat bamboo online. Now, the zoo has many fans on Douyin. In Jiangsu, a cute monkey named Kai Sa becomes a star at Nanjing Forest Safari Park. Many “fans” go and visit it every weekend. Beijing Zoo brings out ice creams in the shape of elephants, giraffes, and pandas. It also makes lovely toy tigers.

Last Sunday, Mary went to the Guangzhou Ocean Park to watch the dolphin show with her parents and brother. Mary felt excited when she saw the dolphins play with balls, go through rings and dance with the trainers.
Then the fishermen put their nets in the water to catch fish. Why do dolphins assist the fishermen? That’s because they can eat some of the fish from the fishermen.

A.Went through rings. B.Caught fish. C.Played with balls. D.Danced.

B.Dolphins can communicate by sounds but not through body language.
C.They share information about personal details like age and feelings.

3.Why do scientists think dolphins are smart animals?
A.Because they can perform in ocean shows.
B.Because they live in large groups underwater.
C.Because they can play cooperatively (合作地) with others.
D.Because they communicate by using special whistles.
4.What does the underlined word “assist” mean in Paragraph 4?
A.Help. B.Protect. C.Harm. D.Save.

Alone in a town in England, Genevieve Moss had serious hearing loss. Her world had always been quiet.
Then one day in April 2021, a photo of a tiny black-and-white cat caught the 64-year-old lady’s eye as she read the local newspaper. A family was looking for a home for the kitten (小猫). Genevieve fell in love with him at once and phoned the family. Soon, the cat came to her and Genevieve called him Zebby.
However, ________. When the phone was ringing or someone was knocking at the door, the cat would keep walking up and down in front of Genevieve until she got the message. At night, Zebby slept next to her. If there was an unusual noise outside, he would jump up and tap the owner on her head to let her know this.
The cat soon took on another job: collecting Genevieve’s mail. Whenever he heard the mailbox being opened, he would run over, carry the mail in his mouth and drop it at the lady’s feet. Zebby would even bring Genevieve her slippers (拖鞋)!
Later, Zebby was named Britain’s National Cat of the Year by Cats Protection. According to the largest cat charity, Zebby stood out from about 3,000 other cats because of his great service. The cat had no training at all, but his talents seemed to have told him that his owner needed his help.
