(食物文化)While tea may have its origins in Asia, now it has found its way into their food culture and traditions in many countries. It is a special way of connecting people all over the world in different ways and ceremonies. That finally all results in a group of people sitting together and enjoying a cup of tea.
Chinese tea culture
Since China is considered as the birthplace of tea, it is no wonder that Chinese tea culture is rich in history and tradition. Today, Chinese tea continues to be used in Chinese medicine and is commonly used on both formal and informal occasions either for personal enjoyment or as a Chinese cultural tradition.

Even though tea may not be native to England, this British tea tradition is still going strong today.
Moroccan tea culture
When you visit Morocco, it is hard to miss the outstanding tea culture that is such a special way to welcome guests. (2024-2025学年江苏省锡山高级中学高二上学期1月期末)My birth was a little more dramatic than the standard way a baby enters the world. I was born missing my left hand. Indeed, my limb (手臂) difference could have been a disaster if it hadn’t been for what happened next. A nurse placed me in my mother’s arms and instructed, “You will take her home. You will love her and treat her as normal.”
That is exactly what happened. I played sports, acted in theater, excelled in school and had playdates with friends. While I did get some stares and “polite” questions about my disability, I was lucky because I wasn’t made fun of for it.
However, that fact that I was different hit me hard my first day of high school. I was 13, an age when kids are already very self-conscious and the need to fit in is intensified. I remember one of the other kids on the school bus stared just a little too long at my left arm. I felt a sudden urge to hide my hand, so I slipped it into my pocket. I told myself that I’d just hide it that one day, while I was trying to make friends. But one day of hiding turned into a week, a month, and years — 25 of them to be exact.
When I was 38 years old, tired of hiding and lonely, I met someone special and invited him in. The combination of me finally feeling ready to unhide and his willingness to go through the unhiding process with me was exactly what I needed. For the first time in my life, I allowed someone to really hold my limb, look at it, touch it, love it — love me. I saw my limb difference as something unique about me, something that should be shown, not hidden.
It was a transformational experience and I learned to love me too. It changed how I lived my entire life and made me happier. I also discovered and joined the Lucky Fin Project, an organisation devoted to people with all types of disabilities.
Hiding things, especially from loved ones, is tiring and lonely, and it prevents us from getting help and support. It’s time to change that.
24. What was the author’s childhood like?
A. She had no social interactions with friends.
B. She was raised with care and treated normally.
C. She faced some challenges in school activities.
D. She was upset about the attention to her difference.
25. What happened to the author when she was 13 years old?
A. She began to ignore her disability.
B. She suffered prejudice from some kids.
C. She started hiding herself away from friends.
D. She became sensitive due to her self-awareness.
26. How did the author change when she stopped hiding?
A. She started to open up and be herself.
B. She met someone who cured her disability.
C. She was fed up with the company of others.
D. She reduced involvement in the disability group.
27. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Misfortune is a good teacher.
B. Disability is not a barrier to success.
C. Self-acceptance can lead to self-love.
D. Nothing beats the feeling of being loved.

(2024-2025学年江苏省无锡市某校高二上学期期末)Imagine you need milk, so you go to the grocery store to pick some up, only to find there are dozens of options. These days, not only do you have to make a decision on the percentage of fat you want, but also what source you want your milk to be coming from: cows, soybeans... You have no idea what milk to pick. There are so many choices that you are overwhelmed.
This phenomenon is known as the paradox (悖论) of choice and it is becoming a concern in the modern world, where more and more options are becoming easily available to us. While we might believe that being presented with multiple options actually makes it easier to choose one that we are happy with, and thus increases consumer satisfaction, having too many options actually requires more effort to make a decision and can leave us feeling unsatisfied with our choice.
The idea was popularized by American psychologist Barry Schwartz when he published his book, The Paradox of Choice: Why More is Less. Schwartz, who has long studied the ways in which economics and psychology intersect (交叉), became interested in seeing the way that choices were affecting the happiness of citizens in Western societies. He identified that the range of choices that we have available to us these days is far greater than people had in the past; however, consumer satisfaction has not increased as much as traditional economics theories might expect.
Schwartz identified that the paradox of choice carries the most consequence for people that are maximizers. Maximizers, unlike satisficers, are concerned with making the best choice instead of simply making a choice that they are happy with. When there are many options available to maximizers, it becomes harder for them to determine which is the best, which can cause them to feel a great deal of regret after they have made a choice.
Instead of believing that freedom of choice is unbounded, Schwartz advocates that the role of psychology and behavioural economics is to find the kind of limitations on freedom that can lead to the greatest level of happiness within society.
28. Why does the author mention buying milk in Paragraph 1?
A. To draw a conclusion. B. To clarify a concept.
C. To lead in a topic. D. To explain a rule.
29. What does the paradox of choice suggest?
A. More options mean less freedom.
B. Consumer satisfaction has greatly increased.
C. People are happy with more choice.
D. Modern men are happier than their ancestors.
30. What can be learnt about satisficers?
A. They aim for the very best. B. They settle for good enough.
C. They often regret their decisions. D. They have trouble making decisions.
31. What does Schwartz suggest people do?
A. Hold on to their beliefs. B. Accept their own behaviour.
C. Give up freedom. D. Limit their own choices.
D
(2024-2025学年江苏省南京、镇江、徐州联盟校高二上学期期末)Most taxi drivers need a smartphone to get to their destinations. But sharks, it seems, need nothing more than their own bodies — and Earth’s magnetic (磁的) field. A new study suggests some sharks can read Earth’s field like a map and use it to travel long distances with accuracy.
Since the 1970s, researchers have suspected that some fish can detect magnetic fields. But no one had shown that sharks use the fields to find their location or navigate (导航), partly because the animals aren’t so easy to work with. It’s one thing if you have a small fish, or a baby sea turtle, but when you work with sharks, you have to upscale everything.
Bryan Keller, an ecologist at Florida State University, and his colleagues decided to do just that. They lined a bedroom-size cage with wire and placed a small swimming pool in the center of the cage. By running an electrical current through the wiring, they could generate a custom magnetic field in the center of the pool. The team then collected 20 young bonnethead sharks — a species known to migrate hundreds of kilometers — off the Florida coast. They placed the sharks into the pool, one at a time, and let them swim freely under three different magnetic fields, applied in random succession. One field mimicked (模仿) Earth’s natural field at the spot where the sharks were collected, while the others mimicked the fields at locations 600 kilometers north and 600 kilometers south of their homes.
They used software to track the sharks’ responses, observing which direction in the tank they were trying to swim towards. When the young sharks were exposed to the magnetic field of the place they were captured, or ‘home’, they stayed put. But when subjected to the southern magnetic field, the sharks persistently changed their headings to swim north, as if trying to get back home. This suggests that the sharks were using the magnetic field to guide them, similar to how humans use GPS.
Surprisingly, the researchers found that the sharks didn’t favor any direction when swimming under the northern field. Keller says this might be because they don’t go north of their home location since there is only land there, and so they rarely have to find their way back south again. “This could support the theory that their ability to go back home is a learned behavior,” he says. They might not know what to do in the northern field because “they’ve never been up there.” says Keller.
Keller’s research adds a significant piece to the still-incomplete puzzle of shark biology Sharks have been declining at an alarming rate due to mostly overfishing and habitat change. Studying the life cycles and migration patterns of sharks can help us understand what areas to protect when managing marine spaces.
32. Why is it difficult for researchers to prove that sharks can read Earth’s field?
A. Sharks are too hard to follow and observe.
B. Sharks are not sensitive to magnetic fields.
C. Sharks are difficult to study in a laboratory setting.
D. Sharks are on the list of endangered species.
33. According to Keller, what might be the reason why sharks don’t favor any direction when swimming under the northern magnetic field?
A. They don’t like the climate in the north.
B. They’ve never been to the north of their home before.
C. They learned to do so when they were young.
D. The northern magnetic field was not strong enough.
34. From the passage, we can infer that Keller’s research is significant because it ________.
A. provides a new method for capturing sharks.
B. supports the idea that sharks’ migration patterns are random.
C. adds crucial information to our understanding of shark biology.
D. suggests that sharks should be protected from overfishing.
35. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Sharks use Earth’s magnetic field to find their way on seas.
B. Researchers discovered a new way to study sharks in labs.
C. Shark populations are declining due to habitat change.
D. Sharks have a learned behavior of returning to their home.

“Alizay, help me close the suitcase,” Dad called out as they finished the final packing for their camping trip in the mountains. Unspoken joy spread amongst the family of four. This trip had been planned for ages and it was finally coming true. Alizay and Osama had never seen the mountains before, so they were over the moon.
That night, Alizay couldn’t sleep from the excitement of what was to come the next day. Her room was a mess from her hurried attempts to pack her backpack for the trip. When her mother entered to say “goodnight”, she scrunched up (皱起) her nose at the chaos (杂乱) and said, “Dear, clean your room before we leave tomorrow. It’s terrible.”
Alizay waved her off, paying no attention. Her mother looked around the room and spotted Alizay’s hiking shoes still lying outside, unpacked. “Put your shoes in right now or you’ll forget them,” her mom said as she left the room. Alizay thought it was impossible to forget her hiking shoes; after all, the whole trip was about hiking. Soon, she fell asleep and dreamt of mountain, lakes and starry skies.
As usual on such trips, the morning was chaotic. Everyone was half-asleep, grabbing egg sandwiches quickly and setting off for the hotel in the mountains. After reaching the hotel, they dropped off their luggage and got ready with only their hiking essentials. Mom, Dad and Osama were all ready for the hike, while Alizay was still in the room: all contents from her backpack fell out as she struggled to locate her shoes.
Dad looked at his watch impatiently. “We are getting late, dear,” he called out to her. Minutes later, Alizay appeared. “Dad, I think I forgot my shoes,” she said. “How could you forget to bring your shoes? It’s too dangerous to go hiking without the proper hiking shoes. Let’s go back home. I see no other way out of this,” Dad said angrily. Alizay’s head hung in shame. “I’m so sorry. It’s okay; you should carry on without me. I’ll stay in the hotel and it’s better to be taught because of my careless attitude this way!” she said in tears.

1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

Mom tapped Alizay’s shoulder, got up and left.

Mom tapped Alizay’s shoulder, got up and left. A few moments later, she returned with a pair of sturdy sneakers in her hand — her own backup pair, kept in the car for emergencies. “Here,” she said, “they might be a bit big, but they’ll do. We’re not turning back.” Alizay looked up and mumbled a grateful “thank you”. As she laced up the shoes, her father’s stern expression gradually eased. “Remember this lesson,” he said. “The mountains don’t forgive carelessness, but family does.” The family set off on the trail.
The hike was worth the wait, and the beautiful scenery left Alizay in wonder. Every step in her mother’s sneakers felt like a reminder of both her mistake and her family’s grace. At a lookout point, Alizay suddenly spoke up, “I’m really sorry again… for almost ruining today.” Her brother Osama nudged her playfully, “Well, your forgetfulness gave yourself a chance to hike in sneakers!” Everyone laughed, the earlier tension dissolving completely. That evening, back at the hotel, Alizay meticulously repacked her backpack. The mountains had taught her more than just beauty; they had shown her that preparedness is part of respecting the adventure and that love often arrives in the form of a spare pair of shoes.

M: So what’s your plan with your program?
W: I hope to turn it into an app that will be useful to firefighters. I also hope it will help people living in those areas where forest fires are likely to happen.
M: That’s great. I hope it’ll be very helpful in the future. You’ve set a good example to other teenagers. Well, thank you again for joining us tonight. That’s all for our program.

27. What can we learn from this passage?
A. Misfortune is a good teacher.
B. Disability is not a barrier to success.

D. Nothing beats the feeling of being loved.
B 25. D 26. A 27. C

I played sports, acted in theater, excelled in school and had playdates with friends. While I did get some stares and “polite” questions about my disability, I was lucky because I wasn’t made fun of for it.(事实正是如此。

根据第一段“Imagine you need milk, so you go to the grocery store to pick some up, only to find there are dozens of options. These days, not only do you have to make a decision on the percentage of fat you want, but also what source you want your milk to be coming from: cows, soybeans... You have no idea what milk to pick. There are so many choices that you are overwhelmed.(想象一下,你需要牛奶,所以你去杂货店买一些,却发现有几十种选择。如今,你不仅要决定自己想要的脂肪含量,还要决定牛奶的来源:奶牛、大豆……你不知道该选哪种牛奶。有太多的选择让你不知所措)”和第二段中“This phenomenon is known as the paradox (悖论) of choice and it is becoming a concern in the modern world, where more and more options are becoming easily available to us.(这种现象被称为选择悖论,它正在成为现代世界的一个问题,因为我们有越来越多的选择)”可推知,第一段描述购买牛奶时面临众多选择的情景,是为了引出后文“选择悖论”这一话题。
根据第二段“This phenomenon is known as the paradox (悖论) of choice and it is becoming a concern in the modern world, where more and more options are becoming easily available to us. While we might believe that being presented with multiple options actually makes it easier to choose one that we are happy with, and thus increases consumer satisfaction, having too many options actually requires more effort to make a decision and can leave us feeling unsatisfied with our choice.(这种现象被称为选择悖论,它正在成为现代世界的一个问题,因为我们有越来越多的选择。虽然我们可能认为,有多个选择实际上会让我们更容易选择一个我们满意的,从而增加消费者的满意度,但选择太多实际上需要付出更多的努力来做出决定,并会让我们对自己的选择感到不满意)”可知,选择悖论表明选项越多,消费者满意度越低,更多的选项看似提供了更多的选择自由,但实际上徒增烦恼,让消费者难以抉择,从某种意义上说是失去了自由,故“更多的选择意味着更少的自由”。故选A项。
根据最后一段中“Instead of believing that freedom of choice is unbounded, Schwartz advocates that the role of psychology and behavioural economics is to find the kind of limitations on freedom that can lead to the greatest level of happiness within society.(Schwartz并不认为选择的自由是无限制的,他认为心理学和行为经济学的作用是找到对自由的限制,这种限制能够在社会内带来最大程度的幸福)”可知,Schwartz认为对选择自由的限制能够在社会内带来最大程度的幸福,所以他会建议人们限制自己的选择。故选D项。

C 33. B 34. C 35. A
根据文章第二段“But no one had shown that sharks use the fields to find their location or navigate (导航), partly because the animals aren’t so easy to work with. It’s one thing if you have a small fish, or a baby sea turtle, but when you work with sharks, you have to upscale everything.(但没有人能证明鲨鱼利用磁场来找到它们的位置或导航,部分原因是这些动物不太容易研究。如果只是小鱼或小海龟还好,但和鲨鱼一起工作时,你必须放大一切)”可知,研究人员很难证明鲨鱼可以读取地球磁场是因为鲨鱼太大,很难在实验室环境中研究。故选C。
【33题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章倒数第二段“Surprisingly, the researchers found that the sharks didn’t favor any direction when swimming under the northern field. Keller says this might be because they don’t go north of their home location since there is only land there, and so they rarely have to find their way back south again. “This could support the theory that their ability to go back home is a learned behavior,” he says. They might not know what to do in the northern field because “they’ve never been up there.” says Keller.(令人惊讶的是,研究人员发现,当鲨鱼在北部海域下游泳时,它们不喜欢任何方向。
根据文章最后一段“Keller’s research adds a significant piece to the still-incomplete puzzle of shark biology.(凯勒的研究为尚不完整的鲨鱼生物学之谜增添了重要的一环)”可推知,凯勒的研究重要是因为Keller的研究为我们理解鲨鱼生物学增添了至关重要的信息。
根据第一段“A new study suggests some sharks can read Earth’s field like a map and use it to travel long distances with accuracy.(一项新的研究表明,一些鲨鱼可以像地图一样读懂地球的磁场,并准确地用它来长距离旅行)”以及后文中对研究过程和发现的详细描述可知,文章主要讲述了研究发现鲨鱼利用地球磁场在海洋中寻路。故选A。
