①Crows (乌鸦) are very smart birds. Some people say they are as clever as children who are five to seven years old. Crows can use tools and even remember people’s faces. Now, scientists in Germany have found something new—crows can tell different shapes apart, just like people can.
②At the University of Tubingen, two friendly crows lived in a lab (实验室). The scientists wanted to see how smart they really were. These crows already knew how to count a little. So the scientists gave them a new test with shapes.
③In the test, the birds looked at six shapes on a screen. Five shapes were the same, and one was different. If a crow picked the shape that was not the same, it got a snack, like a mealworm (面包虫). At first, the shapes were easy to tell apart—like five moons and one flower.
④Later, the test got harder. The crows saw difficult shapes like squares and shapes that looked almost like squares. Even though it was harder, the crows still picked the right shape most of the time. They even kept doing it after the snacks stopped coming!
⑤This showed that crows can really find the differences between shapes. The scientists shared their study in a science magazine (杂志) on April 11, 2025. Before this, only people were known to do this.
⑥Why do crows have this skill? The scientists don’t know exactly. Maybe it helps them find food, fly safely, or tell other crows apart by their faces. They also want to know which part of the crow’s brain (大脑) does the shape work, since crows don’t have the same brain part as humans. They hope other people will study smart animals, too. Maybe other animals can also learn shapes!
19.What special ability of crows did the German scientists discover?
A.They can fly faster than other birds.
B.They can sing songs to remember things.
C.They can tell one human face from another.
D.They can see the differences between shapes.
20.What happened when the shape test became harder?
A.The crows didn’t want to join in.
B.The crows still chose the right shapes most of the time.
C.The crows couldn’t choose the right shapes any longer.
D.The crows only succeeded when scientists gave them snacks.
21.What can we infer about crows from the scientists?
A.They don’t like tests. B.They can only do easy things.
C.They learn better with human help. D.They may need to know shapes to live.
22.What would be the best structure of the passage?
A.B. C. D.
C
Frightened, I was walking into my first school in America. I had traveled a long distance from India in order to join my parents, who had been here for three years, hoping America would help my future. My father decided that I would have a better education here, so I enrolled (登记) in the local high school in my new town.
I was afraid of how I would do. On the first day, I went to my second class after I had missed my first. With anxiety, I reached for the door, opening it slowly. Without paying attention to my classmates, I went straight to the teacher and asked if this was the right class. With a soft voice he answered, “Yes.” His voice comforted me a little. He gave me a sheet called Course Requirements, which I would never get in India because we didn’t have anything like that. Then he asked me to choose where I would sit. I didn’t actually want to pick a seat. In India we had fixed seats, so I never needed to worry about that. I spent the rest of the class taking notes from the image produced by the overhead projector (投影仪). In Indian schools, we didn’t use the technology. We had to take notes as the teacher spoke.
It was noon. I was very confused about when I would have lunch. I went to my next class and the bell rang as I entered. I went through the regular process of asking the teacher if I was in the right class. She said, “That is the lunch bell, young man.”
I apologized. Without another word I headed for the cafeteria (自助食堂). I felt lucky because we didn’t have this in India. Every confusion seemed like a barrier I had to get through to reach my goal. At the end of the day, I was on my way to the bus which we didn’t have in India either. I saw my bus and sat down inside happily. I was thinking, today wasn’t so bad.
23.Why did the author enroll in an American high school?
A.Because he was eager to join his parents. B.Because his parents wanted him to have a bright future.
C.Because his parents had worked in it for 3 years. D.Because his parents thought little of Indian schools.
24.What can we learn about the author’s first day of school?
A.He had no choice but to sit in a fixed seat.
B.He missed his lunch because he was lost.
C.He took notes when the teacher spoke.
D.He felt differences between the two education systems.
25.What does the underlined word “barrier” probably mean?
A.difficulty B.task C.door D.period
26.What was the author’s attitude towards his first day in high school?
A.Doubtful. B.Negative C.Positive. D.Unconcerned.

“Reduce, reuse, recycle,” these are the three Rs that environmental activists have stressed. But how can we realize them? Recently, this idea came to life in China in a clever way in a famous scenic spot (风景区) in Dunhuang, Northwest China’s Gansu Province.
With the arrival of the tourist season, the scenic spot has been crowded with visitors, around 20,000 a day since July. With so many people, the challenge of managing waste has become more serious, putting cleaners under pressure. So, the scenic spot came up with a fun way to help: “Trash Hunt for Gifts.” Here’s how it works: Visitors are given trash bags and encouraged to pick up litter around the site (地点). In return, they get small gifts showing Dunhuang’s rich culture.
Isn’t this another good form of the three Rs spirit? I still remember going to some scenic spots, especially historical sites, where people gather in a small area. At these places, littering is something we always have to try hard to deal with. Not only does it influence the cleanliness of a site, but it is also likely to harm the natural environment. So, when I saw how the “Trash Hunt for Gifts” program was carried out, it was clear this way was more than just a trick to attract attention. It was truly an effort to encourage a culture of responsibility and care. The activity does more than just cleaning up the area. It turns every visitor into an environmental guard (警卫), actively taking part in protecting the beauty of the site.
________ Other places in China are also doing similar things. It’s great to see that tourists are not just enjoying the sights, but also helping to protect them. Turning tourists into environmental guards is a new and exciting way to keep our scenic spots clean and beautiful for everyone to enjoy. It’s a reminder that while we enjoy the beauty around us, we also have the power to protect it.
27.How do visitors take part in “Trash Hunt for Gifts”?
A.By buying trash bags. B.By picking up trash.
C.By giving out gifts. D.By spreading Dunhuang culture.
28.From the passage, we can know that “Trash Hunt for Gifts” program ________.
A.was started by visitors in Dunhuang
B.was aimed at drawing public attention
C.forced visitors to clean up the spots
D.helped to reduce the pressure on cleaners
29.Which of the following can be put in ________?
A.The idea is spreading. B.People love the gifts.
C.Dunhuang becomes more attractive. D.Visitors become more active.
30.What’s the purpose of the passage?
A.To explain what the three Rs are.
B.To show how to face challenges during the trip.
C.To introduce a new way of travelling.
D.To encourage people to be guardians of nature.

Hi, I’m Mia. Let me tell you about my magic bike in ten years. Some classmates say it’s just a dream, but I know it’ll come true. This bike uses sunlight to run. It’s super clean. There’s a small screen on the handle. The screen tells me the best way to get to school. When it rains, the bike will have a clear cover over me. I won’t get wet. If I’m tired, I can push a small part and the bike will walk slowly with me. What’s the best part? It can fold into a small size. I can carry it to school easily. My mom will love it too. She doesn’t like my old bike, because it’s too big at home. My sister says she doesn’t care about bikes, so she may not love it. I’ll ride it to visit my grandma on weekends. It’ll be quick and fun.

A.B. C. D.
【答案】19.D 20.B 21.D 22.A

25.What does the underlined word “barrier” probably mean?
