B Deborah Alma, a poet and “poetry drugstore” owner, prescribes (开处方) poems not pills to her “patients”. She arranges the books in her store according to “mood” because she believes poetry can help relieve a whole range of emotional illnesses from exhaustion and stress to broken hearts. She began her activity years ago while studying for her Master’s Degree in creative writing and working as an assistant in a primary school. At the same time she started to work with people with dementia (痴呆), listening carefully to their words and writing them down. People who start losing their words talk metaphors: “Tin boxes on the road” to say cars is so much more poetic. Deborah composed poems with the images given to her by the patients and then gifted those poems back to people who were always so happy in that their words were taken seriously. It was their responses that made her know the importance of listening carefully and learn to use poetry as a means of cure and empathy (共情). In the meanwhile, their sense of being valued not only brought them joy but also emerged as a source of inspiration for her. In 2011 came the turning point. While surfing the internet for a camper van, she came across a 1950s ambulance for sale and decided to buy it, even though it was a tough period. That is how the emergency poetry adventure started, and for eight years she worked at festivals, conferences, hospitals and care settings, libraries, and schools. Today Deborah has sold the ambulance and bought the special store: a coffee shop downstairs, where people stop to have a cup of tea, upstairs a library, organized by emotions and stages of life to make poetry more accessible and welcome. The “counseling couch” is still there from the ambulance days, contributing to the Victorian-theatrical atmosphere that you can sense all around the place. She specially chose this style to help create a certain atmosphere where people can feel at ease, relax, and let some lightness in. 24. Why did Alma start her poetry prescription activity? A. To expose people to poetry. B. To bring poetry into real life. C. To share the magic of poetry. D. To help ease emotional issues. 25. What aspect of the dementia patients gives Alma inspiration? A. Their feeling of being valued. B. Their habit of listening carefully. C. Their gift for appreciating poetry. D. Their ability to express themselves. 26. Which of the following best describes Alma? A. Brave and kind. B. Considerate and innovative. C. Ambitious and devoted. D. Hospitable and approachable. 27. What is the best title for the text? A. Healing Poetry: A Blessing for People with Dementia B. Deborah Alma: A Poet Who Prescribes poems, Not Pills C. The Poetry Drugstore: Driving from Hospitals to Schools D. From Classroom to Clinic: Deborah Alma’s Poetry Journey Students attending schools that ban the use of phones throughout the school day aren’t necessarily experiencing better mental health and well-being, as the first worldwide study of its kind has found that just banning smartphones is not enough to tackle their negative impacts. In a landmark study published in The Lancet Regional Health—Europe,1,227 students from 30 schools across England provided data about smartphone and social media usage and a range of mental health, well-being and other outcomes. Among the schools that took part in the study,20 had various forms of restrictive phone policies in place. The study found that there was no difference in outcomes for students who attend schools that ban smartphones throughout the school day, including mental health, well-being, and other health and educational outcomes. Smartphone bans in schools did lead to a slight decrease in students using phones (approximately 40 minutes) and social media (approximately 30 minutes) in school, but the study suggests that the impact is small and that school policies banning recreational phone use didn’t lead to a meaningful reduction in the overall time spent using phones and social media. “We did find a link between more time spent on phones and social media and worse outcomes, with worse mental well-being and mental health outcomes, less physical activity and poorer sleep, lower educational attainment and a greater level of disruptive classroom behaviour,” said Dr Victoria Goodyear, associate professor at the University of Birmingham and lead author of the study. “This suggests that reducing this time spent on phones is an important focus. But we need to do more than focus on schools alone, and consider phone use within and outside of school, across a whole day and the whole week.” Professor Miranda Pallan from the University of Birmingham said, “Our study suggests that school policies are not the silver bullet for preventing the detrimental impacts of smartphone and social media use, but that addressing overall phone use should be a priority for improving health and well-being among adolescents.” 28. What did the study mainly focus on? A Banning phones and mental health. B. Time on the phone and physical health. C. Social media and personal preferences. D. School discipline and playing phones. 29. How did smartphone bans affect students’ phone usage during school hours? A. A slight increase in use. B. No obvious effect. C. Remaining unchanged. D. Switching to after-school activities. 30. What does the study suggest about school policies on smartphone use? A. They are the only solution. B. They have no impact at all. C. They have solved the problem. D. They are not a cure for all. 31. In which section is the text most likely to appear in a newspaper? A. Public Health. B. Behaviour Psychology. C. Educational Policy. D. Science and Technology. D McGill University researchers have discovered that changes in clouds are slightly relieving global warming. While greenhouse gases continue to cause temperatures to rise, a reduction in low-cloud cover over land has brought about a modest reduction of the amount of heat being trapped close to ground level. “We started this research to observationally confirm the increase of greenhouse effect of the Earth atmosphere,” said Yi Huang, associate professor in McGill University’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences. “We indeed confirm that, although to our surprise we also found an offsetting (抵消的) effect due to changes in clouds.” “Without these cloud changes, the surface would warm even faster,” said Lei Liu, graduate student in McGill University’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the first author of this study. “This work offers observational truth about how clouds affect warming, which can be used to improve climate models and guide environmental policies,” Liu added. To discover this surprising effect, the team used the measurements of a key radiative instrument, the Atmospheric Emitted Radiance Interferometer (AERI), along with satellite data, climate models and a technique called “optimal spectral fingerprinting” co-designed by Yi Huang and Lei Liu to isolate the effects of clouds from other atmospheric processes. The researchers focused on longwave radiation, the heat energy the Earth emits back into the atmosphere. Usually, clouds trap some of this heat and send it back to the ground. But as the climate warms, there are fewer low clouds in some areas, which means less heat is returned to the surface. The Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences of the university looks to continue using their critical data for understanding regional climate dynamics and enhancing climate modelling. “Our research emphasizes the value of precise, long-term climate observations,” said John Gyakum, a professor. “This is essential for understanding the Earth’s response to global warming and making informed decisions for future generations.” The researchers cautioned that their discovery does not throw doubt on global warming. “It’s like having a heater that adjusts itself a little,” the researchers explained. “But even with this adjustment, the room is still heating up.” 32. What does the reduction in low-cloud cover over land lead to? A. An increase in global warming. B. A significant rise in temperature. C. A slight decrease of ground-level heat. D. A complete stop in the greenhouse effect. 33. According to Lei Liu, what can their findings apply to? A. Improving cloud coverage globally. B. Lowering greenhouse gas emissions. C. Forecasting short-term weather patterns. D. Improving climate prediction models. 34. Why did the researchers mention the heater? A. To caution the public. B. To prove their discovery useful but little. C. To praise their findings. D. To emphasize its importance. 35. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. The Role of Clouds in Relieving Global Warming B. The Importance of Long-term Climate Observations C. The Impact of Greenhouse Gases on Global Warming D. The Accuracy of Climate Models in Predicting Warming I vividly remember the process of moving in for the first time: stuffing clothes, comfort items, and pieces of my childhood into various bags and boxes. It was a whirlwind (旋风)of excitement. 36 What would it be like living at college? Would I get along with my roommate? How would I make friends with complete strangers? 37 I had always felt like I struggled more than others to find “my people.” In high school, I had a few close friends, but it always seemed like everyone else had these big, inseparable friend groups that did everything together. I wanted that, and the sense of belonging, too. Like many, I was attracted by the first people I met in college. 38 We lived next to each other, ate together, and stayed up late together. They were my early friend group, and they brought laughter, growth, and memories — both positive and negative. Those highs and lows taught me an important lesson: Not every friendship is meant to last, and that’s okay. Your friendships don’t just impact your social life — they affect your motivation, your academics, and, among other things, your sense of self. I have found it valuable to surround myself with people who share my values to keep me grounded. 39 College is one of the few places in life where you’re surrounded by people from vastly different backgrounds and experiences. Keeping an open mind is just as important as finding common ground. College can be, and probably will be, chaotic. People come and go. You’ll probably cry over friendships that didn’t work out. 40 That’s all part of the process. Over time, you will find your people. A. They’re part of your story. B. But it was also filled with uncertainty. C. I wouldn’t trade my friendship for anything. D. They mostly so happened to be the people on my floor. E. That said, don’t limit yourself to just those who are like you. F. You may smile at memories with people no longer close with. G. Of all the unknowns, the last question consumed me the most. The first class I went to in college was philosophy, and it changed my life. Our first assignment was to write a response paper to an essay by Albert Camus. I entered college 41 to get a degree in engineering. I always liked the way mathematics had clear answers and was good at it. So when I received this, I was instantly nervous. Even more troubling was that the professor 42 to give any guidelines; he gave us total 43 . Full of anxiety, I read Camus’ essay multiple times but still felt unsure. Unlike math, there were no set answers here, and I was forced to 44 my own interpretation. When I sat down to write, my notes and ideas were all 45 , but the words were lost. I tried various strategies but nothing seemed to work. 46 , after a lot of stress, my ideas became more organized and the words fell on the page. Still, I wondered if what I was saying made sense. Through all the 47 , I continued writing the best I could and turned it in, simply hoping for the best. Then came the judgment day. The professor returned our papers with grades and 48 . He gave me an A, suggesting that my essay was 49 overall and my readin of the essay was original. My relief and newfound 50 upon reading his comments could not be overstated. What I learned through this process 51 well beyond a college paper. I learned to be 52 to new challenges. I left engineering and became a lawyer. Philosophy helped me 53 courage to try a new career path. More importantly, I learned that education is not just a path to a career but a chance to 54 . Philosophy taught me the value of learning for its own sake, and this lesson continues to 55 my life every day. 41. A. intending B. assuming C. appealing D. promising 42. Its hollow stems serve as a metaphor for scholarly humility — the conscious emptying of one’s mind to receive wisdom. When 57 artist paints its joints with deliberate strokes, they capture Confucius’ teaching: “The gentleman is determined but never arrogant”. Observe 58 masters like Zheng Xie in the Qing Dynasty would paint bamboo leaves. Sharp ink-dipped strokes stick upward like swords, while the tips curve downward in a bow, 59 (represent) “gang rou bing ji”, the harmony of strength and flexibility. This philosophy extends 60 art: traditional scholars’ bamboo-fluted desks 61 (design) to whisper when they were brushed by sleeves, 62 reminded them that “Pride breaks bamboo; humility bends it whole”. Even the technique speaks. The “broken ink” (破墨) method 63 (use) for bamboo trunks requires layered washes of thinner ink. The artist must accept accidental bleeds — imperfections that convey 64 (vital). Here lies the deepest lesson: true resilience isn’t about perfection, but the courage 65 (embrace) imperfection while standing tall. 66. In my eyes, she was an extraordinary dog full of unique charm, yet my mother labeled her a troublemaker. When I was just eleven years old, I first laid eyes on that adorably tiny pup with a mass of curly hair, and it was love at first sight. Cindy wasn’t just cute; she was incredibly smart too. I took great delight in teaching her all sorts of nifty tricks. Whenever I placed a stick or a small piece of carrot close to her mouth and uttered the word “chew”, she’d dutifully obey. She loved going for walks with my friends and me. She danced around us as if listening to our conversations about school and clothes and movies we’d seen. I’d tell her about my friends, the boys I liked, the test I was about to take in History. Cindy would sit and stare at me as if listening to everything I told her. Then, out of the blue, my uncle, my mother’s younger brother, found himself in a tough situation and came to stay with us. He and his wife were struggling financially after he lost his job. They slept in my room and I slept on the couch. My mom didn’t want Cindy’s curly fur all over the living room furniture, so she had to sleep in the garage. Instead of being beside my bed as usual, she was out of my aunt and uncle’s way. I resented their presence and kept Cindy outside with me as much as possible. But one afternoon, when I went to get her from the back yard, she wasn’t there. The back gate was partly open. I looked everywhere around the neighborhood, knocking on doors and asking everyone if they’d seen her. I called her name over and over, that name which had always summoned my faithful friend. But this time, the silence was deafening. “Sorry,” my uncle said. “I guess when I went through the gate to check something in my car, I forgot to close it completely.” I didn’t want his apology. I cried and searched. My uncle felt bad and offered to buy another dog to keep me company. _______________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Then one morning, two days later, my uncle was home with Cindy in his arms. _________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 14 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $听力测试第一节听下面5段对话,每段对话后有一个小题请,从题中所给的ABC3个选项中选出最佳选项,并标在答题卷的相应位置。 Hey, Julie, are you a fan of hip hop? I see IT is well structured, but somehow IT doesn't quite feel like you. I guess I relied too much on what the AI gave me. That's the issue. A, I can be helpful, but the purpose of writing an article is to form your own ideas. For instance, your earlier pieces included original examples from your experiences, which were quite impressive. I see your point, but isn't IT okay to use AI as a tool? I mean, it's everywhere now. It's fine to use IT for information gathering or brainstorming. But don't forget to stand up for yourself as a writer. Your voice and opinions are valuable. Thank you, mr. Green. I really appreciate your feedback. Welcome to the south africa wildlife experience program. First, i'll tell you about the working hours. My uncle felt bad and offered to buy another dog to keep me company. I shook my head, tears streaming down my face. “Cindy isn’t replaceable,” I choked out. Seeing my pain, he sighed and promised to help search for her. The next day, he printed flyers with Cindy’s photo and knocked on doors with me. Though exhausted, his determination softened my resentment. We checked parks and alleys, calling her name until our voices grew hoarse. That night, I overheard him telling Mom, “I’ll find Cindy, no matter what.” His sincerity touched me, and for the first time, I felt we were on the same side. Then one morning, two days later, my uncle was home with Cindy in his arms. She looked thin but wagged her tail weakly upon seeing me. “I found her near the old bakery, hiding under a box,” he explained. I rushed to hug them both, sobbing with relief. Cindy licked my cheek as if apologizing. My uncle admitted he’d barely slept, searching every corner since dawn. Mom, watching quietly, finally smiled. From that day, Cindy was allowed indoors again, and my uncle became her favorite playmate. His mistake had turned into a lesson of love and responsibility, binding us closer than ever. 根据“In person”部分“The Box Office is open from Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m.—8 p.m.(票房的开放时间是周一至周六的上午10点到晚上8点)”可知,票房的开放时间是周一至周六的上午10点到晚上8点。 根据“Schools”部分“School parties of ten or more can book tickets in advance for £6 each and will get every tenth ticket free(10人或以上的学校团体可以提前预订门票,每张6英镑,并且每10张票免1张)”可知,10人或以上的学校团体可以提前预订门票,每张6英镑,并且每10张票免1张。 故选A项。 根据“Standby”部分“Best available seats are on sale at a five percent discount, from one hour before the performance for people qualified for Saver and Supersaver discounts and thirty minutes before for all other customers(最佳可用座位以九五折出售,符合“优惠票”和“超级优惠票”折扣条件的人可在演出前1小时购买,其他所有客户可在演出前30分钟购买)”以及“Saver”部分“Savers are available for children under 16 years old, over 60s and students(16岁以下儿童、60岁以上老人和学生可享受优惠票)”可知,学生属于享受“Saver”折扣的人群,他们可以在演出前1小时购买“Standby”票,所以学生可以在演出前60分钟购买“Standby”票,故选D项。 B Deborah Alma, a poet and “poetry drugstore” owner, prescribes (开处方) poems not pills to her “patients”. From Classroom to Clinic: Deborah Alma’s Poetry Journey 【答案】24. D 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第一段“Deborah Alma, a poet and “poetry drugstore” owner, prescribes (开处方) poems not pills to her “patients”. She arranges the books in her store according to “mood” because she believes poetry can help relieve a whole range of emotional illnesses from exhaustion and stress to broken hearts. (黛博拉・阿尔玛是一位诗人,也是一家“诗歌药店”的老板,她给“病人”开的是诗歌,而不是药片。她按照“情绪”来摆放店里的书籍,因为她相信诗歌能够帮助缓解从疲惫、压力到心碎等一系列的情感问题。)”可知,阿尔玛开始她的诗歌处方活动是为了帮助缓解情感问题。故选D。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“In the meanwhile, their sense of being valued not only brought them joy but also emerged as a source of inspiration for her. (与此同时,他们的被重视感不仅给他们带来了快乐,也成为了她的灵感来源。)”等内容可知,痴呆症患者被重视的感觉给了阿尔玛灵感。故选A。 根据第二段中“Deborah composed poems with the images given to her by the patients and then gifted those poems back to people who were always so happy in that their words were taken seriously. (黛博拉用病人们给她的意象创作诗歌,然后把这些诗歌送给那些总是很高兴自己的话被认真对待的人。)”可知,阿尔玛很体贴;根据最后一段中“Today Deborah has sold the ambulance and bought the special store: a coffee shop downstairs, where people stop to have a cup of tea, upstairs a library, organized by emotions and stages of life to make poetry more accessible and welcome. (今天,黛博拉卖掉了救护车,买下了这家特别的商店:楼下是一家咖啡店,人们可以在那里停下来喝杯茶;楼上是一个图书馆,按照情感和人生阶段进行组织,让诗歌更容易接触和受欢迎。)”可知,阿尔玛很有创新性。因此,阿尔玛是一个体贴且富有创新性的人。故选B。 【27题详解】 主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是根据第一段“Deborah Alma, a poet and “poetry drugstore” owner, prescribes (开处方) poems not pills to her “patients”. She arranges the books in her store according to “mood” because she believes poetry can help relieve a whole range of emotional illnesses from exhaustion and stress to broken hearts. (黛博拉・阿尔玛是一位诗人,也是一家“诗歌药店”的老板,她给“病人”开的是诗歌,而不是药片。她按照“情绪”来摆放店里的书籍,因为她相信诗歌能够帮助缓解从疲惫、压力到心碎等一系列的情感问题。)”可知,文章主要讲述了诗人黛博拉·阿尔玛通过诗歌帮助人们缓解情感问题的故事。B项“Deborah Alma: A Poet Who Prescribes poems, Not Pills (黛博拉·阿尔玛:一位开诗歌处方而不是药片的诗人)”最符合文章标题。故选B。 C Students attending schools that ban the use of phones throughout the school day aren’t necessarily experiencing better mental health and well-being, as the first worldwide study of its kind has found that just banning smartphones is not enough to tackle their negative impacts. A 29. B 30. D 31. 根据文章第一段“Students attending schools that ban the use of phones throughout the school day aren’t necessarily experiencing better mental health and well-being, as the first worldwide study of its kind has found that just banning smartphones is not enough to tackle their negative impacts.(在一整天都禁止使用手机的学校上学的学生,其心理健康和幸福感并不一定更好,因为这项全球首创的研究发现,仅仅禁止使用智能手机并不足以解决其负面影响。)”以及第二段“In a landmark study published in The Lancet Regional Health—Europe,1,227 students from 30 schools across England provided data about smartphone and social media usage and a range of mental health, well-being and other outcomes.(在《柳叶刀区域健康——欧洲》上发表的一项具有里程碑意义的研究中,来自英格兰30所学校的1227名学生提供了有关智能手机和社交媒体使用情况以及一系列心理健康、幸福感和其他结果的数据。)” 故选A项。 根据文章第四段“Smartphone bans in schools did lead to a slight decrease in students using phones (approximately 40 minutes) and social media (approximately 30 minutes) in school, but the study suggests that the impact is small and that school policies banning recreational phone use didn’t lead to a meaningful reduction in the overall time spent using phones and social media.(学校禁止使用智能手机确实导致学生在校使用手机(约40分钟)和社交媒体(约30分钟)的时间略有减少,但研究表明,这种影响很小,禁止娱乐性使用手机的学校政策并没有导致使用手机和社交媒体的总时间有意义的减少。)” 根据文章最后一段“Professor Miranda Pallan from the University of Birmingham said, “Our study suggests that school policies are not the silver bullet for preventing the detrimental impacts of smartphone and social media use, but that addressing overall phone use should be a priority for improving health and well-being among adolescents.”(伯明翰大学的米兰达·帕兰教授说:“我们的研究表明,学校政策并不是防止智能手机和社交媒体使用带来负面影响的灵丹妙药,但解决整体手机使用问题应该是改善青少年健康和幸福感的优先事项。”)” 通读全文以及根据文章第一段“Students attending schools that ban the use of phones throughout the school day aren’t necessarily experiencing better mental health and well-being, as the first worldwide study of its kind has found that just banning smartphones is not enough to tackle their negative impacts.(在一整天都禁止使用手机的学校上学的学生,其心理健康和幸福感并不一定更好,因为这项全球首创的研究发现,仅仅禁止使用智能手机并不足以解决其负面影响。)” D McGill University researchers have discovered that changes in clouds are slightly relieving global warming. The Accuracy of Climate Models in Predicting Warming 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. B 35. 根据第一段“While greenhouse gases continue to cause temperatures to rise, a reduction in low-cloud cover over land has brought about a modest reduction of the amount of heat being trapped close to ground level.(虽然温室气体继续导致气温上升,但陆地低云覆盖的减少使被困在地面附近的热量略有减少)”可知,陆地低云覆盖的减少会导致地面热量的轻微减少。 根据第三段““Without these cloud changes, the surface would warm even faster,” said Lei Liu, graduate student in McGill University’s Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences and the first author of this study. “This work offers observational truth about how clouds affect warming, which can be used to improve climate models and guide environmental policies,” Liu added.(麦吉尔大学大气与海洋科学系的研究生、这项研究的第一作者Lei Liu说:“如果没有这些云层的变化,地表变暖的速度会更快。”“这项工作提供了关于云如何影响变暖的观测真相,可以用来改进气候模型和指导环境政策,”Liu补充说)”可知,Lei Liu认为他们的发现适用于改进气候预测模式。故选D项。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“The researchers cautioned that their discovery does not throw doubt on global warming. “It’s like having a heater that adjusts itself a little,” the researchers explained. “But even with this adjustment, the room is still heating up.”(研究人员警告说,他们的发现并不会对全球变暖产生怀疑。研究人员解释说:“这就像有一个可以自我调节的加热器。”“但即使做出了这样的调整,房间里的温度仍在上升。”)”可知,研究人员提到加热器是为了证明他们的发现有用但收效甚微。故选B项。 【35题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“McGill University researchers have discovered that changes in clouds are slightly relieving global warming. While greenhouse gases continue to cause temperatures to rise, a reduction in low-cloud cover over land has brought about a modest reduction of the amount of heat being trapped close to ground level.(麦吉尔大学的研究人员发现,云层的变化略微缓解了全球变暖。虽然温室气体继续导致气温上升,但陆地低云覆盖的减少使被困在地面附近的热量略有减少)”以及纵观全文可知,本文主要讲述了麦吉尔大学的研究人员发现云层变化在一定程度上缓解了全球变暖的现象,所以A项“云在缓解全球变暖中的作用”是本文最好的标题。故选A项。 I vividly remember the process of moving in for the first time: stuffing clothes, comfort items, and pieces of my childhood into various bags and boxes. 36. 56. botanical 57. an 58. how 59. representing 60. beyond 61. were designed 62. which 63. used 64. vitality 65. to embrace 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文。 故填an。 故填how。 故填which。 The “broken ink” method,The “broken ink” method和use为被动关系,所以为过去分词形式。故填used。 “the courage to do sth.” 故填to embrace。 66. I’d like to recommend a campus picnic. Recently, we’ve been buried in heavy study loads. A picnic on the campus lawn allows us to get close to nature. The gentle breeze will caress our faces as we sit on the soft grass, which can bring us a sense of peace and tranquility. We can enjoy the sunshine and fresh air. Also, it offers a great chance for us to chat and play games freely. This can not only help us relax but also strengthen our friendship. Hope my suggestion is helpful. Cindy had always been my most cherished friend. _________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 My uncle felt bad and offered to buy another dog to keep me company.
