On Tuesday, Sam’s father lost his job. Then on Wednesday, Sam’s mother announced that the rent (房租) on their apartment was going up. Now it was Friday, and Sam received an invitation from Rosa to her birthday party. Sam knew Rosa from Adventure Club. He knew he would enjoy Rosa’s party, but he didn’t want to go without a gift. What could he possibly buy her with the little bit of money he had? Sam knew he couldn’t ask Mom or Dad for any money—not this week! Later that afternoon, Sam noticed a second-hand book sale going on. He went there and had a quick look. Two books caught his eye. The first was a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods, and the second was a book about woman explorers. “Rosa would like these,” Sam thought, “but would it be tacky (蹩脚的) to give her second-hand books for her birthday?” Sam decided that a second-hand gift was better than no gift at all. Besides, Rosa supported recycling in that way. So, she would probably like it. With his last dollar, Sam bought the books and went home. He felt a little better. The party was on Saturday. Rosa opened all her gifts and thanked everyone for the nice things they had given her. She paused when she opened Sam’s gift, which made him wonder if she liked the books, but nothing was said. When Sam got home, he opened his e-mail and found this note from Rosa.Dear Sam, Of all the gifts I received today, yours was the nicest. How did you know I would love a book about woman explorers and a cookbook of Puerto Rican foods? Now I have something to read that will inspire me to follow my dream of becoming an adventurer, and I have a book that I can share with my grandmother. From social relationships to work challenges, Chinese people are turning to DeepSeek to solve different personal problems. They describe sharing their thoughts and receiving helpful advice from the popular chatbot. AI is changing the way people find mental (心理的) health support. But can AI truly take the place of a human doctor? Around the world, 45 percent of people who needed mental treatment (治疗) in 2024 did not receive it, with difficulties including cost and shortage of doctors, according to Daniel Lowd, a professor at the University of Oregon. He believes AI could help solve the short of mental health services. “If people can find some support and opinions by talking to a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,” said Lowd. Li Yong, a doctor at the Jiangsu Province Hospital, agreed with Lowd, saying that AI meets people’s needs for mental support in some ways. However, he points out that AI cannot completely take the place of real doctors because it doesn’t have a human side which is important for therapy. Human doctors develop a deeper understanding of people’s feelings and needs through communication, which allows them to offer more practical treatment plans. The use of AI in mental health also raises worries over its safety. “AI chatbots will act as doctors if asked, without any of the training or responsibility of human doctors,” said Richard Lachman, a professor in Canada. Scientists believe the key to make AI therapy safe is proper government regulation (监管). Wysa, for example, is a mental health app that offers conversations with an AI chatbot. In 2022, it worked with the UK’s National Health Service, following a list of strict standards (标准). As AI becomes more a part of our lives, understanding its effects on human mental health means finding a balance between what’s helpful and what’s dangerous. 32.What does Daniel Lowd think of AI mental treatment? A.Harmful. B.Colorful. C.Doubtful. D.Useful. 33.Why does Li Yong believe AI can’t fully take the place of human doctors? A.AI is too expensive to get. B.AI is unable to give any advice. C.AI is unable to understand feelings. D.AI knows little about mental health. 34.What can we know about AI mental treatment according to the passage? A.It needs government rules to make it safe. B.Wysa can give its patients strict standards. C.It can be trained as a human doctor. D.People can use it without any worries. 35.What is the main idea of the article? A.The use of AI chatbots in our daily life. B.AI’s role in mental health care. C.The future of education with AI. D.The advantages of AI for mental support. 【答案】32.D 33.C 34.A 35.B 【导语】本文主要介绍了人工智能在心理健康护理中的作用、优势、局限性及安全监管需求。 32.细节理解题。根据文中“He believes AI could help solve the short of mental health services. ‘If people can find some support and opinions by talking to a chatbot, then I think that’s wonderful,’ said Lowd.”可知,他认为AI能帮助解决心理健康服务短缺的问题,是很棒的,有用的。故选D。 33.细节理解题。根据文中“However, he points out that AI cannot completely take the place of real doctors because it doesn’t have human side which is important for therapy. While the high-level skills and passion (热情) on the field were a major draw, the league’s true success came from its deep connection with the people. Unlike national leagues, Su Chao is based on city teams, which turns people’s local pride into strong support for the teams. The record-breaking crowd of over 61,000 fans for the Nanjing vs. Lianyungang match is a perfect example. They didn’t only cheer for great goals; they celebrated the never-give-up spirit of amateur (业余的) players who, like Liu Ye, never give up until the end. This local pride made the games more exciting. Fans cheered louder and felt more connected to their team, creating a wonderful atmosphere (氛围) in every match. Su Chao kept ticket prices low to make games affordable for everyone. Cities also provided excellent services for fans, including extra free public transportation, clean facilities (设施), and even delicious food or wonderful local performances. Moreover, Su Chao played a big and meaningful social role beyond entertainment (远超娱乐). The long-lasting 176-day season provided a long-lasting shared activity for communities. Families and friends gathered to watch the games, creating new local traditions and shared memories. Also, the league served as a powerful encouragement for young people, showing through action that key values like teamwork, never giving up, and willingness are important both on and off the field. A.a picture or photo B.something that attracts people C.a tie in a game D.a prize for those fans 37.What is the main reason for Su Chao’s strong support from fans according to the passage? A.The league gathered many good high-level players. B.The games were free to watch for everyone. C.It turned people’s local pride into support for city teams. D.Every match was broadcast (播出) on national television. 38.What is the main idea of the last paragraph? A.The league was too long and should be shorter next year. B.Professional (职业的) leagues are more successful than amateur ones. C.The final match was the most exciting in the league’s history. D.Football’s power is about building community and encouragement. 39.What is the main purpose of the article? A.To explain the basic rules of football. B.To report on one exciting match in the Su Chao league. C.To introduce the players on the Nanjing FC team. In a 2024 survey by the UK charity The Reading Agency, almost one in four people aged 16~24 in the country said they didn’t read regularly. What does it mean? What kind of structure does a good reader’s brain actually have? My new study published in the journal Neuroimage studied open-source data from more than 1,000 people. The result shows differences in two regions of the brain’s left temporal lobe (大脑左颞叶), which sits behind the left ear. One is the lobe’s front part known as the temporal pole (颞极). It helps connect and sort different kinds of information. For example, to understand a word like “leg”, this brain region links how legs look, feel, and move. In people who read well, the left temporal pole is thinner compared to the right. The other is the Heschl’s gyrus (海氏回) on the lobe’s upper part. The fold hosts the auditory cortex (听觉皮层) that processes sounds. That the auditory cortex would be related to reading might seem less obvious (明显的): isn’t reading mainly a visual skill? Not only. To match letters with speech sounds, we first need to be aware of the sounds of the spoken language. This phonological awareness has been known to set the stage for children’s reading development. A thinner left Heschl’s gyrus has previously been often related to dyslexia (阅读障碍), a condition that makes reading very difficult. However, my research shows that this difference in thickness isn’t just about dyslexia. It applies to more people, where having a thicker auditory cortex is related to being better at reading skills. But it’s important to know that the brain changes when we learn something new or practice a skill we have already mastered. For example, young adults who studied languages a lot saw an increase in the thickness of brain areas related to language. Similarly, reading is likely to shape the structure of the left Heschl’s gyrus. So, if you want to keep your heschl’s gyrus healthy, pick up a good book and start reading. 56 information ● Few young people enjoy reading in the UK. ● 1/4 of people aged 16~24 don’t have the 57 of regular reading. She is getting older and wants to be sure her granddaughter knows how to make the wonderful foods of Puerto Rico. Thank you so much. C Although AI can bring people comfort, it still cannot match the full abilities of a human doctor. D The Jiangsu City Football League, popularly known as Su Chao, recently finished its longest-ever season from spring to autumn. In this way, football became a bridge, connecting people from different backgrounds, jobs, and ages through a common passion. Su Chao’s huge popularity clearly proves that the real power of football lies not only in the final score but in its special ability to build stronger communities and encourage people. It was more than a competition; it was a widespread festival that celebrated local culture, shared values, and the simple joy of the sport. 36.The word “draw” in the first paragraph most probably means ________. A study ● It is 58 on open-source data from over 1000 people. ● It studies the influence of reading on the 59 structure. Findings There’re 60 lying in two parts of the brain’s left temporal lobe.
