Hummingbirds (蜂鸟) are a very important part of Mexico’s ecosystem, but because of the ever-spreading city landscape, they face all sorts of serious dangers. That’s where 73-year-old Catia Lattouf de Arida comes in. As a self-taught hummingbird care-taker, she devotes most of her free time and resources to nursing the tiny birds back to health. Her home in Mexico City has become known as a hummingbird hospital
Catia’s story as a hummingbird nurse began in 2011, at a very difficult moment in her life. At that time, she focused on her battle with cancer and fell into a depression (抑郁) . She was walking on the street one day when she noticed a hummingbird that had suffered a serious eye injury. The kindhearted woman took it home and named it Gucci. She managed to nurse Gucci back to health, but she said it was Gucci that saved her. Why? Because the hummingbird managed to pull her out of the sadness and loneliness that had taken over her life.
Word of her success spread among Catia’s friends, and before long some of them began bringing her injured hummingbirds. She didn’t repulse them at all. She began to study the bird and their habits in order to better take care of them, and after 11 years of experience, the 73-year-old woman is considered an expert on hummingbirds.
In order to raise awareness of the difficult situation of hummingbirds in Mexico, Catia Lattouf de Arida started posting videos of the patients in her Mexico City apartment on social media, and many of them became popular. That’s when the need for her nursing services really blew up. She has cared for hundreds of hummingbirds in her 11-year career, when she has had as many as 50 of them in her apartment at any one time. She spends pretty much all her time looking after the tiny birds.

C. Helping others is helping ourselves.
D. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
5. What does the underlined word “repulse” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Expect. B. Refuse. C. Accept. D. Recognize
6. When were Catia’s nursing services greatly needed?
A. When her friends heard about her success.
B. When she was considered as a bird expert.

D. After she looked after a large number of the birds.
7. According to the text, Catia can be described as ________.

Have you ever wondered about the layout of supermarkets? Smart designers are behind it, attracting you to walk through each aisle and fill your shopping cart without even realizing it.
Grocery store design is a carefully crafted art from both psychological and marketing standpoints, according to Reeves Connelly, who studied architectural design at the Pratt Institute. He explained that there is a specific reason why fruit and vegetables are often located at the front of the store, “You’ll grab the fruits and vegetables first and then hopefully feel less guilty about buying junk food later on.” Meanwhile, essential items such as milk and eggs are placed at the back of the store to ensure customers walk through other aisles with many unhealthy choices like snacks and sodas, possibly increasing the likelihood of impulse purchases.
There’s also a reason why you often feel lost in local supermarkets. Shockingly, they move things around. Reeves explained, “They are very much aware that these strategies become less effective after you visit the store a few times and get a better sense of where everything is, so they’ll regularly move the products to different aisles to confuse you. The practice is not limited to a specific store but is used across various shops.”
“Their little tricks always work on me,” one regular shopper admits. “I walk in to get three things and end up spending $300; that’s why I hate grocery shopping,” he said. On the other hand, some shoppers are proud to declare they have never fallen into the trap. “That’s why I always keep a shopping list on me,” another shopper shared. “I’ve started having my groceries delivered. If I have to go to the store, I never grab a shopping cart. If I can’t carry it, I’m not buying it,” he added.
8. What is the purpose of the supermarket layout?
A. To show the designer’s wisdom. B. To save shoppers’ time.
C. To increase non-essential purchases. D. To provide many goods for choice.
9. What would the store owner probably do to make more profits?
A. Rearrange products in supermarkets regularly. B. Distribute junk food in different areas.
C. Place junk food before essential items. D. Put the healthy foods together.
10. What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A. Most shoppers are trapped in marketing tricks.
B. Making lists can be a smart act for impulse buying.
C. Shopping baskets are better than heavy shopping carts.
D. Grocery delivery can help improve supermarket sales.
11. Where is this text most likely from?
A. A shopping guide. B. A psychology report.
C. A research paper. D. A business magazine.
C 9. A 10. B 11. D
根据第二段“Meanwhile, essential items such as milk and eggs are placed at the back of the store to ensure customers walk through other aisles with many unhealthy choices like snacks and sodas, possibly increasing the likelihood of impulse purchases.(与此同时,诸如牛奶和鸡蛋这类必需品被放置在商店的后部,以确保顾客在经过其他货架时会看到许多不健康的商品,比如零食和碳酸饮料,这可能会增加顾客冲动购买商品的可能性)”可知,超市布局的目的是促进非必要消费。
根据第三段“Reeves explained, “They are very much aware that these strategies become less effective after you visit the store a few times and get a better sense of where everything is, so they’ll regularly move the products to different aisles to confuse you. The practice is not limited to a specific store but is used across various shops.”(里夫斯解释道:“他们很清楚,一旦你去那家店逛了几次,熟悉了商品的摆放位置,这些策略的效果就会大打折扣。所以他们会经常把商品移到不同的货架上,以此来迷惑你。这种做法并非仅限于某一家店铺,而是被广泛应用于各类商店中。”)”可知,为了提高利润,店主可能会定期重新安排超市的产品布局。故选A。
根据最后一段“On the other hand, some shoppers are proud to declare they have never fallen into the trap. “That’s why I always keep a shopping list on me,” another shopper shared.(另一方面,有些购物者则自豪地宣称自己从未陷入过这种陷阱。“这就是为什么我总是随身携带购物清单。”另一位购物者分享道)”可推知,带购物清单是避免冲动购物的明智之举。故选B。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据第一段“Have you ever wondered about the layout of supermarkets? Smart designers are behind it, attracting you to walk through each aisle and fill your shopping cart without even realizing it.(你是否曾好奇过超市的布局设计?精明的设计师暗藏巧思,诱导你逛遍每一条货架,不知不觉就把购物车塞满了)”以及全文可知,文章主要说明了超市布局背后促进非必要消费的特殊原因以及建议。由此推知,文章可能选自一本商业杂志。故选D。
D
“Reduce, reuse, recycle”, these are the three Rs that waste environmental activists have advocated (提倡). But how can we realize them? Recently, this idea came to life in China in a smart way at the Mingsha Mountain Crescent Spring scenic spot in Dunhuang, Northwest China’s Gansu Province.
During the tourist season, the scenic spot of Dunhuang has been flooded with visitors — around 20, 000 a day since July. The challenge of managing waste has become more pressing. In response, the scenic area has introduced an initiative (倡议): “Trash hunt for gifts.” Here’s how it works: Visitors are given trash bags and encouraged to pick up litter around the site. In return, they receive small gifts featuring Dunhuang’s rich cultural heritage.
Inspired by the initiative, I thought, “Isn’t this another splendid form of the three Rs principle?” I still remember going to some scenic spots, especially historical sites where people gather in a small area, and seeing how littering is something we always have to struggle with. Not only does it influence the cleanliness of a site, but it also threatens the natural environment. Once I saw a family who had just arrived, eagerly filling their trash bags with litter. The children were excited to trade their collected trash for gifts, and their parents proudly explained how their small actions contributed to a cleaner, more enjoyable experience for everyone. This interaction created a sense of community and shared purpose among the visitors.
The “Trash hunt for gifts” campaign (活动) does more than just cleaning up the area. It turns every visitor into an environmental activist, taking an active part in preserving the beauty of the site. This concept is also not unique to Dunhuang. Similar initiatives are seen across China: in Jiangxi’s Wu-kung Mountain, in Northeast China’s Xi’an Lin Tong, all around. These efforts highlight a growing trend (趋势) where tourists don’t just visit — they contribute. As we continue to explore and enjoy these natural wonders, it’s encouraging to see that many are also stepping up to protect them.
12. Why has the initiative “Trash hunt for gifts” been introduced in Dunhuang’s scenic spot?
A. To relieve the pressure of cleaning-up. B. To control the number of flooding tourists.
C. To raise the awareness of wildlife protection. D. To promote the development of local economy.
13. Why does the author mention a family in the third paragraph?
A. To explain how the initiative works.
B. To show that his thought was wrong at first.
C. To prove that the initiative is really a good idea.
D. To highlight the good education given to the children.
14. Which is true according to the text?
A. Dunhuang is not alone in the campaign “Trash hunt for gifts”.
B. Dunhuang takes the lead in the campaign “Trash hunt for gifts”.
C. Dunhuang is catching up in the campaign “Trash hunt for gifts”.
D. Dunhuang teams up with other places in the campaign “Trash hunt for gifts”.
15. Which is the best title of the text?
A. A promising step towards a shared future. B. A new rule on turning tourists into volunteers.
C. Tourists not only visit but also contribute. D. Tourism full of both opportunities and challenges.
A 13. C 14. A 15. C
根据第二段中“During the tourist season, the scenic spot of Dunhuang has been flooded with visitors — around 20, 000 a day since July. The challenge of managing waste has become more pressing. In response, the scenic area has introduced an initiative: ‘Trash hunt for gifts.’ (旅游旺季期间,敦煌景区游客络绎不绝——自7月起,日均游客量已达约2万人次。垃圾处理的难题也随之变得愈发紧迫。为应对这一情况,景区推出了一项名为‘捡垃圾换礼品’的倡议。)”可知,景区推出“捡垃圾换礼品”倡议的目的是想要缓解垃圾清理工作的压力。故选A。
根据第三段“Inspired by the initiative, I thought, ‘Isn’t this another splendid form of the three Rs principle?’ I still remember going to some scenic spots, especially historical sites where people gather in a small area, and seeing how littering is something we always have to struggle with.
根据第四段中“This concept is also not unique to Dunhuang. Similar initiatives are seen across China (而且这一理念并非敦煌独有,在国内多地都能看到类似的举措)”可知,敦煌并不是唯一一个参与“捡垃圾换礼品”活动的城市。故选A。
根据最后一段中“The ‘Trash hunt for gifts’ campaign does more than just cleaning up the area. It turns every visitor into an environmental activist, taking an active part in preserving the beauty of the site… These efforts highlight a growing trend where tourists don’t just visit— they contribute.

上文“Adopt the mind map method. To manage a distracted (分心的) mind, write down everything, like appointments, worries and to-dos, without organizing it initially. Once everything is on paper, group these into life areas like work or emotional wellbeing. (采用思维导图法。为了管理分心的大脑,先把所有事情都写下来,比如约会、担忧和待办事项,一开始不用整理。一旦所有事情都写在纸上,就把它们归类到工作、情感健康等生活领域。)”详细介绍了思维导图法的前两个步骤——记录和归类,下文“This creates order and gives your brain permission to concentrate. (这能建立秩序,让你的大脑可以集中注意力。)”说明该方法的效果。E项“然后问问自己:现在什么重要,什么可以等一等?”作为思维导图法的第三步,承接前文的“记录和归类”流程,通过设问筛选优先级,进而实现下文“建立秩序、集中注意力”的效果,逻辑连贯。故选E。
【18题详解】

第二节 (满分25分)
47. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My friend Carole’s birthday was approaching and I wondered what to give her as a gift. I had two pots of beautiful flowers and I knew Carole liked flowers. However, the two pots of flowers were rare and I brought them from a forest very far away, which took me great effort. So, I hesitated.
There wasn’t a cloud in the sky on one warm June morning when Carol e and I started out for a day of shopping. We had learned of a quilt (被子) shop which had unique quilts created by skilled women from a nearby company. Carole’s heart was set on finding a blue- and- white quilt to put the finishing touch on her guest bedroom.
We parked the car next to the only traffic light in town, heading towards the quilt shop. But next door, a newly opened small store that sold pretty clothes, shoes, etc. attracted us. So we first walked into this store, where we admired the most wonderful collection of umbrella s we had ever seen. As I ran my fingers across one special umbrella, I heard myself whisper, “These are the most beautiful umbrellas...”I loved the items so much.
A sales clerk hurried to my side. “Perhaps you’d like to try one of them out,” she suggested. I opened the attractive umbrella. Underneath it, I felt wonderfully carefree and sheltered from the whole world. But with new things to buy, there was no money for expensive umbrellas. Besides, even if I could afford one, it wouldn’t be a practical purchase. Back in the second grade, I had once eyed a beautiful, pink umbrella in a department store window. “I need a beautiful umbrella,” I said to my mother. “No, you need a practical umbrella,” she said. “Besides, you might lose it.” With tears in my eyes, I put down that pink umbrella!
Coming back from my memory, I told the clerk, “Thanks for showing me the umbrella.” Then, I headed next door to the quilt shop, a few steps ahead of Carole.

Back home, I took the umbrella sent by Carole and walked towards my flowers.
______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
When her steps caught up with mine, I noticed a long, thin box under her arm. “What’s that?” I asked, curious. Carole smiled mysteriously and handed me the box. “Open it,” she said. Inside was the very umbrella I had admired in the store. “Happy early birthday!” Carole exclaimed. I was speechless. “But… how did you know?” I stammered. “I saw the way you looked at it,” she replied. “I wanted to give you something special, just like you always do for me.” Tears welled up in my eyes as I hugged her tightly. “Thank you, Carole. This means so much to me.”
Back home, I took the umbrella sent by Carole and walked towards my flowers. I realized that the joy of giving was far greater than the effort it took to obtain those flowers. With a smile, I carefully dug up one of the pots and placed it in a beautiful gift bag. The next day, I visited Carole and handed her the bag. “Happy birthday, Carole,” I said. Her eyes lit up as she saw the rare flowers. “These are beautiful! Thank you so much!” she exclaimed. As we sat together, admiring our gifts, I felt a deep sense of gratitude for our friendship and the simple joys it brought into our lives.

A. To show the designer’s wisdom. B. To save shoppers’ time.

A. Rearrange products in supermarkets regularly. B. Distribute junk food in different areas.

When her steps caught up with mine, I noticed a long, thin box under her arm.
