Children are now more likely greedy for a job in social media or gaming than traditional careers. According to a new survey, many children from 7 to 11 are looking at modern technology when they think about future jobs, rather than professions such as the police officer or doctor. The survey involved 13,000 UK primary school children. They were asked to draw pictures of the job they wanted to do when they grow up and then tell the reasons. It concluded that children's career aspirations(志向)are often based on factors such as gender stereotypes(性别的刻板印象)or what they've seen in the media, on TV and in the film. “For more and more children, online celebrities and YouTube gaming video bloggers have taken the place of TV and movie stars,” the report said. “It could be argued that this is due to the growing fame and attraction of YouTube and video blogging stars, who are especially popular among younger audiences. Also, this may also speak to children's present worlds. Many children from 7 to 11 will spend their time gaming and perhaps at the same time watching celebrity gaming bloggers instructing them how to do it.” The survey found that 5% of children wanted to be in the police, with the same percentage of becoming doctors. A gender breakdown showed the top job choice for girls was the teacher(19%), followed by the vet(11%) and sportswoman(9%) and police(8%). This highlights the pressing need for closer ties between employers and schools, to ensure that all children can have role models in a wide range of fields to help them develop an awareness of career choices at an early age. “This is vital to ensure that all children—regardless of gender and backgrounds—can fulfill their full potential.” 1.According to the text, what is the traditional career choice? A.The police officer. B.The online celebrity. C.The professional gameplayer. D.The video blogger. 2.According to the survey, what's the favourite thing children from seven to eleven love to do? A.Play games and watch popular TV series. B.Participate in various sports in order to be sportsmen or sportswomen. C.Study hard and make great efforts to become teachers and police officers. D.Play games and watch celebrity gaming bloggers instructing them how to do it. D。 3.What's the purpose of the survey? A.To strengthen the importance of studying hard. B.To give children more advice to choose future careers. C.To give parents some suggestions to educate their children. D.To stress the importance of ties between employers and schools. 4.In which column can you probably read the text? A.Science. B.Education. C.Sports. D.Culture. Résumé(简历) tips:4 ways to stand out on paper According to a recent study, recruiters(招聘人员) only spend six seconds looking at your résumé. So how do you make it into the callback pile in those mere seconds? __1__Here is a bunch of ways to do just that. Use keywords When recruiters look through résumés, they're looking for keywords that match the job description, including basic keywords that will get their attention, but you can take it a step further. __2__Then include those keywords in your résumé as well. __3__ My friend is a chef. Her résumé looks a lot like any chef's résumé with one surprising difference. Under personal accomplishments she wrote, “Won the 2007 St. Bernard Parish Pie Eating Contest.” It isn't something you'd expect. She's been asked about the contest in several interviews, which is the perfect time to tell the recruiters that she also baked all of the pies for the contest. Turn your résumé into an infographic(信息图) __4__Just ask college journalist Chris Spurlock. Last year he turned his résumé into an infographic. Not long after, Spurlock's résumé was posted on both blogs and Twitter. If you're in a creative field, make your résumé look different from the standard onepage list. Make a video résumé Sales manager Stan Paprzycki shot a video of himself, posted it on YouTube, and then sent the link to potential employers. The result was almost 100 per cent positive response.__5__A video résumé is better suited for jobs like sales and marketing. A.Take part in a contest. B.Add unusual accomplishments. C.Better yet, his video résumé got him a job. D.Your résumé doesn't have to be a onepage list of achievements. E.Adding some personalities to your résumé can't hurt, but avoid jokes. F.By thinking outside the box and making a résumé that will hold the recruiters' attention. G.Check out the company's website and look for any company goals that fit your experience. 1.解析:选F 空格前一句提出问题“...how do you make it into...?”选项F(通过跳出思维定式,制作一份吸引招聘人员注意力的简历)回答上一句的问题。结合下文可知,下一句中的 to do just that指选项F 中的hold the recruiters' attention。 2.解析:选G 空格前一句说“...you can take it a step further.(你可以更进一步)”;选项G意为“查看该公司的网站,寻找任何符合你的经验的公司目标”。 根据下文“Under personal accomplishments she wrote...” 由下文“...make your résumé look different from the standard onepage list.” I grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas in a working class, AfricanAmerican neighborhood.
