They design cycling routes and walkable networks. B At an altitude over 4,500 meters in Burang County, Ngari Prefecture, Southwest China’s Xizang Autonomous Region, lies Mapam Yumco Lake. For over a decade, 42-year-old Dradul has dedicated himself to protecting the wetland around this precious lake as an ecosystem guardian. Before becoming a guardian, he struggled with temporary jobs and hoped for a steady salary. Now, he earns a stable monthly income of 2,000 yuan and comes to feel a deep sense of purpose. “Protecting this lake makes me proud. It’s not just work — it’s about preserving it for future generations,” he said. Dradul’s workday begins early. He patrols (巡查) a fixed 10-kilometer route by motorcycle, with duties including observing the reserve, recording data, and addressing ecological threats. Last February, he and his team rescued a wing-broken eagle, sending it to a rescue center until it recovered. This July, they spent 20 minutes pulling a trapped wild yak out of a mudflat with ropes. Educating visitors is another core task. Dradul reminds tourists not to litter, drive on delicate grasslands, or leave waste. “In the past, the wetland was full of garbage and had fewer wild animals,” Dradul recalled. Today, the wetland is home to 411 plant species and 157 wildlife species — a remarkable level of biodiversity for such a high-altitude area. Yet, the work is far from easy. Climate change is a major threat: melting ice and shifting rainfall patterns cause shoreline changes and grassland degradation. Human activities also continue — some visitors still litter, bathe, or wash cars in the lake. With nearly 99,000 hectares (公顷) of wetland and only 90 guardians, remote areas can’t be patrolled daily. Despite these difficulties, Dradul remains hopeful. He dreams of Mapam Yumco Lake staying pure forever. “This responsibility, though built on small daily efforts, must be passed down. With sincerity and commitment, even the simplest actions can safeguard the lake’s beauty for generations,” he emphasized. 4. What’s the original purpose of Dradul to work as a guardian? A. To protect a precious wetland. B. To help animals in need. C. To earn a stable income. D. To seek a sense of purpose. 5. Which of the following can best describe Dradul’s job? A. Challenging but worthwhile. B. Relaxing and effective. C. Well-paid but dangerous. D. Flexible and professional. 6. What does the underlined word “degradation” in paragraph 4 mean? A. Improvement B. Decline C. Expansion D. Stability 7. What can we learn from Dradul? A. Every cloud has a silver lining. B. Small efforts make a big difference. C. Chance favors the prepared mind. D. Actions speak louder than words. C You had to be really unlucky to be on the China National Highway 110 on August 14, 2025. One of the longest traffic jams on record, trapping thousands of vehicles over more than 100 kilometers and lasting more than 10 days. Would it make you impatient? I strongly suspect that even the calmest would answer with a resounding “yes”! And yet philosophers and poets alike sell patience as a “virtue (美德)”, implying that having it is always a good thing. To me, it’s far more useful to think about patience as something we do rather than something we have. Consider first what it means to be impatient. We all know the feeling: fingers drumming the table, leg bouncing. But why does this frustrating feeling arise? Most emotion researchers take it as a functionalist viewpoint. Our mind and body are trying to tell us to get moving, to find a way to bring the unpleasant delay to an end. In a series of recent studies with more than 1,400 participants, we found that people were more impatient when the thing they were waiting for was very appealing — and when the wait itself was unappealing. Being delayed for something you hate, such as an unpleasant work event, is easier than a similar delay for a much- expected performance by your favorite band. If impatience is an emotion, what is patience? In technical terms, it’s a form of emotion regulation like reminding ourselves that the scary movie isn’t real. When we start to feel impatient, we can let that feeling spread — or we can regulate (调节) it. Are you waiting for weeks to find out if you have got that job? Dive into your favorite hobby to distract yourself for a few hours. There’s still a lot we don’t know about patience, including why some people seem to find it easier than others and how we can get better at it. Fortunately, those are simpler questions to answer when we reduce the challenge from virtue acquisition to emotion regulation. Ultimately, it may seem like a sharp contrast to poetic picture of virtue, but I’ll take practical wisdom over virtue any day. 8. What is the author’s attitude to people’s impatience in traffic jams on the National Highway 110? A. Critical B. Optimistic C. Indifferent D. Understanding 9. According to the text, which of the following situations would make people the most impatient? A. Being stuck in a traffic jam in a comfortable car. B. Being delayed by bad weather on the way to work. C. Waiting in a long queue for an expected football game. D. Waiting for an important but unpleasant work meeting. 10. The author views patience as ________. A. an acquired virtue B. a behavior of regulating emotion C. a form of releasing emotion D. a born personality 11. What is the purpose of the text? A. To redefine patience. B. To explain a virtue. C. To introduce strategies. D. To recognize impatience. D It is probably no surprise to you that stress is a major driver of illness. We urgently need simple and objective ways to study and measure it. The temperature of someone’s nose — most obviously, on the tip — might be about to give us the answers we need. Thermal (热的) cameras, usually used to show heat loss in buildings, are proving invaluable in medicine for tracking abnormal changes in body temperature related to conditions including infection and even cancer. Researchers are now also using thermal cameras to read people’s stress levels by mapping their temperature changes in their face. Blood is constantly moving around our bodies through the widening and narrowing of vessels (血管) to control its flow. But blood flow gets directed when we are stressed. The nervous system pushes blood towards our eyes and ears. resulting in less blood around the nose. This decrease in blood is spotted by a thermal camera as a drop in temperature. This effect has been named the “nasal dip”, and it is not unique to humans. It has been reported not only in adults and children, but also in some animals. Used in combination with existing measures, thermal imaging could be a game changer for stress research. With no need for labs or machines, it can provide a way to continuously monitor without any physical contact with the person under evaluation. In the very near future, we could check the temperature of our nose as a kind of biofeedback to help us understand and adjust our stress states. We could track stress in babies before they learn to speak, and in patients who struggle to communicate. We could detect harmful levels of stress in high pressure environments like emergency rooms, trading floors or even zoos. 12. What was thermal cameras commonly used for? A. Identifying heat escape in buildings. B. Reading people’s stress levels. C. Monitoring blood flow in the human body. D. Tracking abnormal body temperature changes. 13. What happens to the nose when people are stressed? A. Its temperature rises. B. It changes shape slightly. C. Blood flow to it decreases. D. It becomes more sensitive. 14. Why could thermal imaging be a game changer for stress research? A. It can spot infections and cancers. B. It offers accurate results with special machines. C. It can cure stress and anxiety by providing biofeedback. D. It can provide continuous and non-contact monitoring. 15 What can be a suitable title? A. Stress: A Major Cause of Illnesses B. Thermal Cameras: From Building to Medicine C. The Nose Tip Temperature: A New Way to Measure Stress D The Nasal Dip Phenomenon in Humans and Animals 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。有两项为多余选项。 Common Mistakes New Runners Make Running is a great way to get in shape and just about everyone can do it.
