It is that time of the year, when a handful of world’s leading scholars, social activists and researchers are rewarded with what is often cited as the most prestigious acknowledgement of human effort-the Nobel Prize. Here’s a look at who has won the prize and for what.
Physiology or Medicine
Swedish geneticist Svante Peabo won the first Nobel of the year, for starting the field of ancient DNA studies. He is well-known for extracting, sequencing, and analyzing ancient DNA from Neanderthal bones.

Ed Jackson’s team were trying to climb to the top of a Himalayan Mountain. However, weeks after they set off, they were stranded (滞留) there overnight without water, food or tents at a temperature of about-30℃. They took turns to keep each other awake in case they fell asleep and did not wake up again.
Actually, that night on the mountain top was not the first time that Jackson had been close to death. Five years ago, while still a professional rugby player, Jackson broke his neck in a challenge, which nearly killed him. Jackson was told by doctors that he was likely to face life in a wheelchair. He was forced to retire from playing rugby.
Luckily, Jackson managed to discard his wheelchair six months after the accident. To mark the first anniversary of his accident, Jackson set himself the goal of climbing Mount Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, even though he was still using two crutches (拐杖) then. He tried to climb many higher mountains after that. Four years later, he found himself in the Himalayas.
The challenges that Jackson faced in the mountains have had a great impact on his recovery both physically and mentally. Jackson realized that others might benefit, too. So he started the charity Millimeters to Mountains(M2M) with his wife Lois and his friend Oily Barkley. It takes beneficiaries (受益人) who have suffered physical or psychological injuries in challenges around the world, allowing them to access the healing power of nature.
Jackson says, “I once lost hope in life because of my bad condition, thinking there was nothing I could do. But hopefully what I’m doing, what we’re doing with the charity and what our beneficiaries are proving can give anyone the hope that they can turn their life around, no matter how discouraging it might seem at that moment.”
4. What do the first two paragraphs mainly talk about?
A. Jackson was tired of ball games. B. Jackson was no stranger to suffering in life.
C. Jackson was well respected for his survival skills. D. Jackson was advised to do exercise by his doctors.
5. What does the underlined word “discard” probably mean in the third paragraph?
A. Give up. B. Rely on. C. Tear apart. D. Carry through.
6. Why did Jackson start M2M?
A. To educate sports lovers. B. To raise money for the disabled.
C. To encourage safe mountain climbing. D. To help people with similar experiences.
7. What kind of person is Jackson probably?
A Enthusiastic and independent. B. Creative and aggressive.
C. Adventurous and inspiring. D. Responsible and humorous.

Instant noodles are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.
The main issue isn’t the noodles themselves, but the common way people make them: pouring boiling water over dried noodles and adding all the salty seasoning packets. These flavor packets contain high levels of salt and artificial additives (人工添加剂), making this version unbalanced and unhealthy.
Actually, plain instant noodles aren’t terrible. They’re fried during production (which adds some oil and calories), but they fill you up well and provide quick energy when you’re hungry. To make them healthier, cook them properly: boil the noodles first, drain excess starchy (含有淀粉的) water, then use fresh water or broth (肉汤). Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal!
So, are instant noodles junk food? If prepared lazily with all the seasoning and no extras, yes. But when cooked with less seasoning plus veggies and protein, they become a decent occasional meal. Remember: the secret is variety. Enjoy them once or twice a week as part of a diverse diet, and they won’t harm your health. They’re far less scary than people think — just upgrade your cooking method!
8. What determines if instant noodles are unhealthy?
A. Their quick cooking time. B. The time of eating.
C. The preparation method. D. The junk food label.
9. What is the major cause of unhealthy instant noodles?
A. The dried noodles. B. The flavor packets.
C. Using boiling water. D. People avoiding cooking.
10. What is the main purpose of the third paragraph?
A. Warn about health dangers. B. Give cooking instructions.
C. Argue noodles are harmless. D. List harmful additives.
11. What is the suitable title for the passage?
A. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste. B. Instant Noodles: How to Cook?
C. Instant Noodles: Eat Sometimes. D. Instant Noodles: What we know?
D
Autonomous vehicles are designed to understand and navigate traffic conditions independently, including other vehicles, pedestrians(行人), and obstacles, without needing a driver.
SAE International, also known as the Society of Automotive Engineers, categorizes the level of automation in vehicles. Level 0 signifies "No Driving Automation", meaning the vehicle lacks automated driving features. Level 5 is the highest form of fully autonomous vehicles, where no user input is necessary, even during emergencies, and the technology can handle all driving practices on its own.
Several key technologies are crucial for the efficient operation of autonomous vehicles. These include computers, safety systems, cameras, network infrastructure, and sensors. These technologies must work together to ensure safe and effective operation.
The transportation sector is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, primarily carbon dioxide (CO2). In 2022, automobiles alone contributed to at least 35% of total USSCO2 emissions, highlighting the urgent need for eco-friendly vehicle solutions to reduce harmful emissions.
Air pollution, especially in South Asia, poses significant health risks to over one billion people due to poor air quality. Countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, and India have some of the lowest air quality ratings globally, threatening human and animal lives. Research confirms that autonomous vehicles can significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions. For instance, autonomous vehicles can minimize traffic congestion(拥堵)caused by drivers searching for parking, which accounts for about one-third of urban traffic. Eco-driving techniques, like improving speed and acceleration to enhance fuel efficiency, are increasingly integrated into autonomous vehicle systems. Studies show that adopting eco-driving practices with autonomous vehicles can reduce CO2 emissions by 10%-20% on congested highways.
Despite these advancements, autonomous vehicles face challenges such as weather conditions and digital security risks. They are still evolving, with ongoing research needed to improve sensor capabilities, address ethical concerns, and ensure safety and fairness in deployment(调动). In conclusion, autonomous vehicles promise to revolutionize transportation, but further research is crucial to overcoming technical challenges for their widespread adoption.
12. What can we learn about Level 5 of autonomous vehicles?
A. It is under human's control through the Internet. B. It depends on cooperation among devices.
C. It is less intelligent than Level 0 in driving. D. It needs no intervention except emergencies.
13. Why does the author mention greenhouse gas emissions caused by autos?
A. To prove air pollution affects health.
B. To introduce the seriousness of pollution.
C. To explain autonomous driving can avoid traffic jams.
D. To express autonomous driving reduces CO2 emissions.
14. What's the environmental advantage of autonomous vehicles according to the passage?
A. They can operate with electricity. B. They reduce urban traffic congestion.
C. They do not require any maintenance. D. They completely remove CO2 emissions.
15. What is the challenge for autonomous vehicles?
A. Enhancing sensors and safety. B. Reducing the cost of manufacturing.
C. Becoming completely eco-friendly. D. Being able to drive faster than conventional cars.

52. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
For some years, I had been in a bad feeling, which resulted from my father, but that day, all changed.
On a Sunday in March, it was my 18th birthday, a day that was supposed to be filled with joy and celebration. My family gathered in a restaurant to celebrate it. The environment filled with laughter, the sounds of plates, and the sweet smell of freshly baked cake. My grandparents sat there, recalling my childhood. Cousins, aunts, uncles, and even a little boy at the neighboring table filled the space. Yet, lively as the atmosphere was, a heavy gap hung over the day—my father wasn’t there.
My father had been gone for over a decade. He was a police officer, a man of strong principles and a deep sense of duty. Years ago, he drowned while saving a child who had fallen into a rushing river. I didn’t fully understand what had happened back then, but as I grew older, I began to struggle with his absence in my life. Every missed birthday, every school performance and every hurt knee felt like a betrayal (叛徒). I couldn’t help but blame him. He had promised to always be there for me, yet he chose to save a stranger’s child over staying with his own family.
As the party continued, I tried to hide my conflicted emotions. The guests clapped and sang as my mother brought out the cake, decorated with 18 glowing candles. Everyone’s face lit up, but my mind wandered. Then, out of nowhere, a piercing cry shattered the joyful hum of the party. The little boy sitting at the table next to us, just about five years old, was choking. It seemed that he had been eating a grape and accidentally swallowed it whole. His face turned red as he struggled for air, his tiny hands clawing at his throat. Chaos erupted. His mom screamed and looked helpless. All the people present were extremely nervous.
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;
2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
At that moment, something inside me sprang into action.

A Jackson was tired of ball games.
A. Enthusiastic and independent. B. Creative and aggressive.
C. Adventurous and inspiring. D. Responsible and humorous.
【答案】4. B 5. A 6. D 7. C

【答案】8. C 9. B 10. B 11. A

Crucially, use only half the seasoning packet to reduce salt. Add vegetables like spinach or carrots and protein like an egg or tofu while cooking. This boosts vitamins and protein while cutting sodium (钠). This transforms them into a balanced meal!
通读全文,根据文章第一段“Instant noodles are a favorite quick meal when people don’t want to cook. Picture eating them while watching TV on a stormy night — pure comfort! But many believe they’re just junk food that harms health. The truth is, whether they’re unhealthy depends entirely on how you prepare them.(方便面是人们不想做饭时最喜欢的快餐。想象一下在暴风雨的夜晚边看电视边吃它们的情景——纯粹的安慰!但许多人认为它们只是危害健康的垃圾食品。事实上,它们是否不健康完全取决于你如何制备它们。)”等内容可知。文章主要讨论了方便面是否属于不健康食品的争议,指出其健康性取决于烹饪方式。所以选项A. Instant Noodles: Not All Waste.(方便面:并非全无是处)最能概括文意,适合用作标题。故选A。

【答案】参考范文
My Views on Pre-made Food
In recent years, pre-made food has become popular due to its convenience. Its biggest advantage is saving time and effort, especially for busy students and workers. Moreover, standardized production ensures consistent taste and reduces cooking failures.
However, pre-made food has drawbacks. Some products are high in preservatives and lack freshness, which may harm health if consumed long-term. Additionally, over-reliance on it weakens people’s cooking skills and family bonding.
In my opinion, its future depends on balancing convenience and quality. Manufacturers should prioritize natural ingredients and nutrition. Meanwhile, consumers can use pre-made food wisely - combining it with homemade meals for a healthier lifestyle.

第二节(满分25分)
注意:1. 续写词数应为150个左右;

When I breathed a sigh of relief, the boy’s parents came to me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】At that moment, something inside me sprang into action. I rushed to the boy, my heart pounding with fear and determination. Bending down behind him, I wrapped my arms around his small body and performed the Heimlich maneuver, just as I had practiced in school. The room was deathly silent, everyone’s eyes fixed on us. With a sharp push, the grape shot out of his mouth and landed on the floor. The boy took a deep breath, his face gradually regaining its normal color, and his panicked sobs turning into relieved whimpers.
When I breathed a sigh of relief, the boy’s parents came to me. They were teary-eyed, their voices trembling with gratitude. The mother kept saying that I saved their whole family. Looking at them, I suddenly understood my father. I realized that saving lives wasn’t a choice he made lightly—it was an instinct, a calling, something he couldn’t turn away from. For the first time, I felt a profound sense of pride. My father’s actions had shaped the person I was becoming, even if he wasn’t here to see it. And for the first time in years, I felt at peace and celebrated my birthday excitedly, even with the strangers.
