A Quietly sitting there reading, I found myself suddenly listening to the train guard’s announcements. Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand. This one was different. I noticed that other passengers appeared to be listening, too. Not only that, everyone was smiling! Why was so much attention being paid to this message? As best I can recall, the guard said something along these lines, “Good Morning Ladies, Gentlemen and Children, this is the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith to Central and you’ll be pleased to know that we are right on time. And what a lovely morning it is in Sydney today. The sun is shining, birds are singing, and all’s right with the world. I trust you have a great day wherever you’re going. Thanks for catching my train this morning and I hope to see you again soon.” Quite a few people (obviously previous strangers) started talking to one another about the guard’s excellent message and how good it had made everyone feel. I started thinking about this, and then I found the young guard and said “Were you the guard on the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith?” The guard seemed a bit stunned at first, replying, “Yes, yyyyes.” “Well, I really appreciate your announcement. Thank you for your extremely good message, which gave me and the other passengers such a good start to the day. Please keep doing it.” I said. There are two messages for me in what happened that day. Firstly, when people are happy in their work it shows in what they do and say. Secondly, the story attaches much importance to the benefits that accumulate from thanking people for something they’ve done, particularly when it’s not expected. Can you imagine the conversation that guard would have when he got home? 1. Why do few train travelers listen to the announcements? A. The messages are unattractive. B. The guard’s voice is not clear. C. They usually feel sleepy. D. They are absorbed in books. 2. What does the underlined word “stunned” in Paragraph 3 mean? A. Patient. B. Cautious. C. Surprised. D. Excited. 3. What might the guard talk about with his family when he got home? A. The beautiful weather. B. The recorded message. C. The train from Penrith. D. The unexpected appreciation. 4. Which of the following can be the best title for the text? A. An Intelligent Guard. B. A Boring Train Story. C. A Different Train Announcement. D. A Lovely Morning in Sydney. A 2. C 3. D 4. 根据第一段“Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand.(乘坐火车的乘客们肯定都会认同这样一个观点:当列车员进行广播时(无论是预先录制好的语音还是列车员本人的讲话),很少有人会去认真聆听,因为这类广播往往枯燥乏味或者难以理解)”可知,由于这些消息没有吸引力,很少有人愿意听。故选A。 根据划线词上文“Quite a few people (obviously previous strangers) started talking to one another about the guard’s excellent message and how good it had made everyone feel. I started thinking about this, and then I found the young guard and said “Were you the guard on the 7:35 a. m. from Penrith?”(有不少人(显然是之前不认识的人)开始相互交谈,谈论那位列车员所传达的那条精彩信息,以及它给大家带来的那种美妙的感受。我开始思考这件事,然后我找到了那位年轻的警卫,并问道:“您就是早上7点35分从彭里斯来的那位列车员吗?”)”可知,作者和列车员不认识,所以对于作者的询问一开始列车员似乎有点吃惊。故划线词意思是“惊讶”。故选C。 【3题详解】 细节理解题。根据最后一段“Secondly, the story attaches much importance to the benefits that accumulate from thanking people for something they’ve done, particularly when it’s not expected. Can you imagine the conversation that guard would have when he got home?(其次,这个故事非常强调对他人所做之事表示感谢所带来的种种益处,尤其是当这种感谢并非出于预期之时。你能想象那个列车员回到家后会说些什么吗?)”可知,列车员回去之后会对家人说意想不到的收获。故选D。 【4题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第一段“Quietly sitting there reading, I found myself suddenly listening to the train guard’s announcements. Train travelers will surely agree that when the guard makes an announcement, whether it’s the recorded message or the guard’s message, few people listen to it, because it’s often quite dull or hard to understand. This one was different. I noticed that other passengers appeared to be listening, too. Not only that, everyone was smiling!(静静地坐在那里阅读时,我突然发现自己开始留意起列车员的广播内容。 C。 B Fruit farmers in Okayama, Japan, have managed to make peeling (去皮) a banana optional by developing a special variety with eatable skin. The peel of their “Mongee bananas” isn’t particularly tasty, but it’s much thinner and far less bitter than that of regular bananas, making it 100% eatable. Scientists at D&T Farm in the country’s Okayama Prefecture released the social media-ready news following months of experimenting with a freezing-and-thawing (解冻) method, which keeps the banana tree at extremely cold temperatures followed by a dramatic heat increase. The result is soft and thin skin that hasn’t fully developed. They froze young banana trees to -60 degrees Celsius, planting them again as they began to thaw. This apparently activated an ancient part of their DNA, which not only allows the plant to grow in Japan’s cool climate, but also speeds up its development. While tropical varieties of bananas require two years to grow large enough for consumption (消费), the Mongee banana needs just four months. The first bunch of Mongee bananas hit department stores’ shelves in the November of last year, but getting your hand on one of these incredible fruits remains a huge challenge. D&T Farm only produces 10 bananas per week, and they only deliver them to the Fruit Corner of Tenmanya Okayama, a local department store. But even if you happen to find one available, you’d probably be a bit put off by the price – 648 yen ($5.70) per fruit. Banana peel is an excellent ingredient that can contain vitamin B6 and magnesium related to the production of serotonin (血清素). At the same time, it has a positive effect on both brain and sleep. Research results that ripe fruit peels have a good effect on treating prostatic hypertrophy (前列腺肥大) have also been published. John Guterman, a botanist, says, “And what about shipping? For most of the fruit’s history, the peel has provided protection, allowing it to travel long distances. A softer, more bruise-prone banana would be a step back from hardy banana varieties that travel thousands of miles. In this sense, the day we all stop peeling bananas and instead bite straight through their skin may still be a long way away. 5. Compared with regular bananas, Mongee bananas ________. A. are far easier to peel B. have much sweeter flesh C. are much more thin-skinned D. have a longer growth period 6. Why is it hard to buy a Mongee banana now? A. It isn’t affordable at all. B. It hasn’t come into the market yet. C. It is made for certain people. D. Its production ability is still limited. 7. What does Paragraph 4 mainly talk about? A. The medical value of banana peel. B. The nutrition (营养) of banana peel. C. The way of making banana peel sweeter. D. The studies about how to make banana peel eatable. 8. What does John think of the Mongee banana? A. It should not be widely grown. B. It won’t be spread widely soon. C. It indicates the future of fruits with skin. D. It has no advantage over regular bananas. 【答案】5. C 6. D 7. A 8. B 【解析】 【分析】这是一篇说明文。文章介绍了一种香蕉皮可以吃的香蕉,Mongee香蕉的特点、产量、医学价值以及前景。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段The peel of their “Mongee bananas” isn’t particularly tasty, but it’s much thinner and far less bitter than that of regular bananas, making it 100% eatable.(他们的“Mongee香蕉”的皮不是特别好吃,但它比普通的香蕉薄得多,也没有那么苦,所以100%可以吃。)由此可知,与普通香蕉相比,Mongee香蕉的皮更薄。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段D&T Farm only produces 10 bananas per week, and they only deliver them to the Fruit Corner of Tenmanya Okayama, a local department store.(D&T Farm每周只生产10只香蕉,而且只把它们送到当地一家百货商店的水果角。)由此推断出,现在很难买到Mongee香蕉是因为其生产能力仍然有限。故选D。 【7题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第四段Banana peel is an excellent ingredient that can contain vitamin B6 and magnesium related to the production of serotonin (血清素). At the same time, it has a positive effect on both brain and sleep. Research results that ripe fruit peels have a good effect on treating prostatic hypertrophy (前列腺肥大) have also been published.(香蕉皮是一种很好的成分,它含有维生素B6和镁,与血清素的产生有关。同时,它对大脑和睡眠都有积极的影响。成熟果皮对前列腺肥大有良好治疗作用的研究结果也已发表。)由此推断出,第四段主要讲了香蕉皮的医学价值。故选A。 【8题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段In this sense, the day we all stop peeling bananas and instead bite straight through their skin may still be a long way away.(从这个意义上说,我们停止剥香蕉皮,而是直接咬香蕉皮的那一天可能还有很长的路要走。) The peel of their “Mongee bananas” isn’t particularly tasty, but it’s much thinner and far less bitter than that of regular bananas, making it 100% eatable.(他们的“Mongee香蕉”的皮不是特别好吃,但它比普通的香蕉薄得多,也没有那么苦,所以100%可以吃。)由此可知,与普通香蕉相比,Mongee香蕉的皮更薄。故选C。 C Travelling plays an important part in making us feel relaxed and happy. It also brings good changes in our life and keeps us alive and active. Travelling gives us practical experience of things we have studied in the books. So a person who does not travel at all does not find any meaning in the name of Ganga River. However, if he has travelled to this place, he can truly relate everything he has studied and will always remember each and every detail of that place. Nowadays, many people like travelling as they want to explore the world and watch everything they have read about. And this seems to be quite true as practical knowledge is more important and effective (有效的). People like to visit historical places present in different parts of the world and collect information on the same to write books and stories. Travelling has become easier due to (由于) advancement in technology and transportation (交通). Earlier people used to travel by road or sea and it took many days to travel from one place to another. However, now the situation has changed and people travel to far off places within hours and minutes — thanks to well-built roads and airplanes. People travel for different purposes, some travel for further education while others travel to relax and enjoy. Many people take a break from their busy schedule and go for a vacation, which makes them feel pleased and energetic (充满活力的). Many writers and painters travel to different places to experience some of the best things of nature and express them in the form of paintings or books. People also travel for business purposes so as to make money from their business. Students travel for educational purposes. Everyone has a unique reason to travel. Therefore, travelling is an important part of human life and it provides knowledge and offers all kinds of benefits (好处) to mankind. 9. What does the author want to say by mentioning the Ganga River? A. The Ganga river is a good place to visit. B. Travelling brings good changes in our life. C. Visitors fail to find the meaning of the Ganga river. D. People should travel to experience the things in the books. 10. What is Paragraph 3 mainly about? A. The traffic in earlier times. B. The time spent on travelling. C. Changes in means of transportation. D. The reasons why travelling has become easier. 11. What can we know from the last two paragraphs? A. Different people have different reasons to travel. B. Businessmen always travel for a vacation. C. Writers travel to sell their books. D. Painters love travelling the most. 12. What does the author think of travelling? A. Useful but expensive. B. Important but difficult. C. Meaningful and necessary. D. Pleasant and safe. 【答案】9. D 10. D 11. A 12. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇说明文,文章主要讲述了旅行的意义以及人们旅行的目的。 【9题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“Travelling gives us practical experience of things we have studied in the books. So a person who does not travel at all does not find any meaning in the name of Ganga River. (旅行使我们对书本上所学的东西有了实际的体验。所以一个完全不旅行的人不会在恒河的名字中找到任何意义。)”可知,旅行使我们对书本上所学的东西有了实际的体验,一个完全不旅行的人不会了解恒河这个名字的意义,作者提到恒河是为了强调旅行的意义,人们应该旅行去体验书中的东西,故选D。 【10题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段内容,结合“Travelling has become easier due to (由于) advancement in technology and transportation(交通). (由于科技和交通的进步,旅行变得更加容易了。)”可知,本段主要讲述了旅行变得更简单方便的原因是技术和交通的进步让花费在路上的时间变短了,故选D。 【11题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“People travel for different purposes (人们旅行有不同的目的)”以及最后一段中“Everyone has a unique reason to travel. (每个人都有一个独特的理由去旅行。)”可知,不同的人因不同的理由去旅行,故选A。 【12题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“Travelling plays an important part in making us feel relaxed and happy. It also brings good changes in our life and keeps us alive and active. Travelling gives us practical experience of things we have studied in the books. (旅行在使我们感到放松和快乐方面起着重要的作用。它也给我们的生活带来了好的变化,让我们保持活力和活跃。旅行使我们对书本上所学的东西有了实际的体验。)”和最后一段中“Therefore, travelling is an important part of human life and it provides knowledge and offers all kinds of benefits (好处) to mankind. (因此,旅行是人类生活的重要组成部分,它提供了知识,为人类提供了各种各样的好处。)”可知,作者认为旅行是非常有意义并且很有必要的,故选C。 D ON TUESDAY, the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, a nonprofit civil rescue team, confirmed that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists who had got into difficulties. According to the official news, it was on Monday that the rescue team received a telephone call from 24 travelers, who were trapped in a river valley, with a storm on the way and one of the female travelers being badly injured. The team responded immediately. However, when they helped the travelers, two team members got trapped by the rising river water. The next day, they were confirmed dead. The two heroes who gave their own lives to save others are being mourned by all. Who can rescue the rescuer? The question aroused a heated discussion among people. Most of them think we would rather such "heroic deeds" were not required. However, that depends on people being more sensible. In the past several years, there have been many cases in which travelers, ignoring the signs saying certain areas are dangerous and off-limits, still have kept on “exploring” unpaved and unmarked regions and ended up needing to be rescued. By so doing, they put not only their own lives at risk but also the lives of those who go to their aid. In this case, although the travelers may have been in an authorized area, they ignored the warnings of an approaching typhoon. It was extremely reckless(鲁莽) of them to travel into the wild on such a day, as the local weather forecast had warned people against the upcoming typhoon. Two rescuers have lost their lives because of the thoughtlessness of others. The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. The regulations need strengthening to deter travelers from putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk. 13. What happened to a woman traveler? A. She lost her way. B. She was trapped on the mountain. C. She died in the storm. D. She was seriously hurt. 14. What is the writer’s attitude towards some tourists? A. Critical. B. Sympathetic. C. Understanding. D. Admiring. 15. What does the underlined word deter in the last paragraph mean? A. protect. B. keep. C. excuse. D. separate. 【答案】13. D 14. A 15. B 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章主要讲述了深圳蓝天救援队两名队员在营救被困游客时牺牲的事件,以及对此事件引发的关于游客安全意识和救援责任的讨论。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“According to the official news, it was on Monday that the rescue team received a telephone call from 24 travelers, who were trapped in a river valley, with a storm on the way and one of the female travelers being badly injured.(据官方消息,周一救援队接到24名旅行者的电话,他们被困在河谷中,暴风雨即将来临,其中一名女性旅行者受重伤。)”可知,一名女性旅行者受了重伤。故选D。 【14题详解】 推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“In this case, although the travelers may have been in an authorized area, they ignored the warnings of an approaching typhoon. It was extremely reckless(鲁莽) of them to travel into the wild on such a day, as the local weather forecast had warned people against the upcoming typhoon.(在这种情况下,尽管旅行者可能在一个授权区域,但他们忽略了即将来临的台风的警告。他们在这样的一天去野外旅行是极其鲁莽的,因为当地天气预报已经警告人们要防范即将来临的台风。)”可知,作者认为这些游客不顾警告,在台风即将来临的情况下仍然去野外旅行,这种行为是极其鲁莽的,由此可推知,作者对一些游客的态度是批评的。故选A。 【15题详解】 词句猜测题。根据最后一段“The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. The regulations need strengthening to deter travelers from putting their own lives and the lives of others at risk.(法律已经明确规定,如果旅行者或团体在进入未经授权的地区时遇到困难,他们必须承担救援行动的费用。需要加强这些规定,以deter旅行者将自己和他人的生命置于危险之中。)”可知,法律已经明确规定旅行者或团体在进入未经授权的地区时遇到困难需要承担救援费用,由此可推知,需要加强这些规定来阻止旅行者将自己和他人的生命置于危险之中,故deter意为“阻止”。A. protect保护;B. keep阻止;C. excuse原谅;D. separate分开。故选B。 二、阅读七选五:本大题共5小题, 共12.5分。 Sports are as important as studies for students because they help students to stay focused and enjoy working. ___16___ Here are some best sports for students to play at school. ___17___ About 250 million players in over 200 countries play this sport. It appeared to have taken over the entire room. I knew that my mom had spent all day happily sewing as she pictured me proudly walking from class to class with it over my shoulder. The next day I was to start seventh grade at a new school, in a new state, in the middle of the school year. I was nervous and excited. That first day at school I heard the whispers.“Have you seen the new girl? She’s from California. Did you see that big bag?”Then there were giggles (咯咯笑). Because I started school in the middle of the year, all of the lockers had been assigned to other kids. There was no extra locker available for me, so I was forced to carry all my stuff around in the oversized bag. Wild stories flew back and forth about what I kept in the bag that never left my side. Drugs? Some kids wondered. Clothes? Is she homeless? There was nothing interesting in that bag, just my coat during cold weather, school books, papers and pens. Eventually, most students pretty much ignored me, but some of the kids made fun of my bag. People grabbed at it, pretended to treat it like a dog and tried to drop litter into it. My teachers didn’t seem to notice, probably because I didn’t ever complain or ask for help. As the year progressed, I started to hate that bag. I blamed all my problems on it. I felt helpless, alone and homesick for California and my old friends. One day toward the end of the school year, my math teacher assigned each student a partner to work with on word problems. I was told to work with Debbie, a popular girl who was in several of my classes. She smiled and waved me over toward her desk, so I grabbed my bag and quietly moved toward her. As I sat down, I realized that I had never spoken to her before. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 “So, what’s in the bag?" Debbie asked loudly with a smile. Her question was the last straw to break me down. Face blushing red, I dumped the bag on the table and grumbled in a choking voice, "Nothing, just my coat, books, papers and pens. Why you all tease my bag which brought me a whole year of bad luck and loneliness? " No longer able to contain my emotion, I buried my head in my arm and let tears of grievance wash over my face. Then Debbie started to laugh, not at me, but at the situation. Debbie told me every stitch of the bag was made of my mother's selfless love. When being laughed at, I should let them. Meanwhile, I should open myself up and make friends proactively so that I could better fit in.Debbie's gentle words, like a shining torch, dispelled all the darkness in my life. Through my misty eyes, I knew I would take her advice and embrace my new life with my bag. 词汇激活 行为类 ①抱怨:grumble/complain ②抑制:contain/restrain ③嘲笑:laugh at/make fun of 情绪类 ①无私的:selfless/unselfish ②温柔的:gentle/tender 【点睛】【高分句型1】Why you all tease my bag which brought me a whole year of bad luck and loneliness?(由关系代词which引导限制性定语从句) 【高分句型2】When being laughed at, I should let them.(由连接词when引导的时间状语从句的省略) 第二节 47. 假设上周三(11月9日)你校举办了主题为“预防森林火灾”的校园活动。请你为学校英语报写一篇报道,内容包括: 1、活动时间、地点、参加人员; 2、活动内容:观看短片、制作黑板报等等; 3、活动反响。 注意:词数120左右。可适当增加细节,以使行文连贯。 _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 In order to promote the awareness of fire prevention and student safety, our school held a campus activity with the theme of “Preventing Forest fires”. B Fruit farmers in Okayama, Japan, have managed to make peeling (去皮) a banana optional by developing a special variety with eatable skin. C Travelling plays an important part in making us feel relaxed and happy. D ON TUESDAY, the Shenzhen team of Blue Sky Rescue, a nonprofit civil rescue team, confirmed that two of its members had died trying to rescue 24 tourists who had got into difficulties. The law has already made it clear that if a traveler or group gets into difficulties when entering unauthorized regions, they must bear the costs of the rescue operations. A. protect. B. keep. C. excuse. D. separate. 二、阅读七选五:本大题共5小题, 共12.5分。 Sports are as important as studies for students because they help students to stay focused and enjoy working. 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题纸的相应位置作答。 “So, what’s in the bag?"
