Here is a list with the best ways for you to make money to cover basic expenses, deal with an unexpected bill, save for vacation, and more.
Drive With Lyft
Lyft drivers can cash out earnings at any time, who can earn $400 by giving 40 rides in 7 days. Lyft launched a Women+Connect feature to assist female drivers to better control their driving experience. Drivers get all of the flexibility and bonus offers that lyft is known for, with the added benefit of increased chances to match with women drivers.
Share Your Space
Do you have a nearly empty garage or basement? Neighbor is a platform where you can list your empty space and rent it out to people in your community. It’s an alternative to traditional storage spaces. Here’s an idea of how much money you can make on neighbor. Spare bedroom $30-$200/ month; closet $10-$160/ month; garage $60-$500/ month; The price variation depends on your location and facilities.
Start Pet Sitting
Pet sitters can earn $25/ night, and dog walkers make around $15/ walk. What you earn varies based on where you live, but pet sitting rates also vary based on the kinds of services you offer. For example, if you are experienced in administering medicines, you can typically charge more. To start pet sitting, I highly recommend Rover, which is free to sign up. You can also list your services locally on NextDoor.
Rent Out Your Car
With more people working remotely, there is a good chance that your car isn’t getting used as much as it once was. You can make extra money by renting it out on HyreCar, a peer-to-peer rental platform. You can make around $35/ day renting out your car. This company rents openly to rideshare and food delivery drivers, and they offer up to $1,000,000 in insurance coverage if something happens to your car.
21. What is the purpose of lyft’s Women+ Connect feature?
A. To offer higher salaries to men drivers.
B. To provide free rides for women passengers.
C. To allow women drivers to cash out earnings anytime.
D. To help women drivers better manage driving experience.
22. What would most probably increase your earnings as a pet sitter?
A. Renting out your garage.
B. Having a spare bedroom.
C. Feeding medicines professionally.
D. Feeding pets as often as possible.
23. Which platform should you turn to if you want to share your bedroom?
A. Lyft. B. Neighbor.

It was an overheating summer afternoon when Eden first stepped into the abandoned lot on the edge of our neighborhood. Overgrown with weeds and littered with broken glass, the space had become a symbol of desertion. But to Eden, a seventeen-year-old with rough-skinned hands and a determined smile, it was a blank painting sheet waiting to be transformed.
Eden’s journey began with a simple idea. After noticing that children had no safe place to play, he said he wanted to turn the lot into a community garden. His classmates laughed when he showed them his drafts of raised beds and a small pond, calling it “a waste of time.” Regardless of this, he spent weekends clearing wastes, his arms injured by sharp glass and stones. Neighbors watched in disbelief as this young boy, who barely stood taller than the weeds, worked tirelessly under the hot sun.
Week after week, Eden returned. He taught himself gardening through online classes, often staying up late to study soil composition. When the first seeds grew up, the entire community gathered in amazement. Children brought watering cans, elderly residents shared gardening tips, and local businesses donated materials. What started as one boy’s dream became a collective effort.
Three years later, the lot is unrecognizable. Colorful flowers bloom where once stood piles of garbage, and children laugh as they run after butterflies around the pond. Eden, now a college student, still visits every weekend to maintain the garden. He has inspired other youth in our town to start their own projects — cleaning up rivers, organizing book drives, and teaching seniors to use smartphones.
The community garden is more than just plants and soil; it’s a witness to what can happen when one person refuses to accept the situation before his eyes. Eden showed us that change doesn’t require grand gestures or vast resources. It begins with a single act of courage, a willingness to take the first step, and the belief that even the smallest hands can build something beautiful.
24. What was Eden’s classmates’ initial reaction to his plan for the garden?
A. They approved of his practice.
B. They considered it meaningless.
C. They suggested a different location.
D. They thought it unsafe to change the lot.
25. What can be learnt about Eden?
A. He valued practical action over empty talk.
B. He relied on others’ support to start the project.
C. He prioritized his own interests over community needs.
D. He owed his academic progress to the community project.
26. What can be inferred from paragraph 4?
A. Eden asks others to maintain the garden.
B. Eden seeks fame through environmental advocacy.
C. Eden has started many more projects for the community.
D. Eden is constantly committed to community improvement.
27. What is the main message implied by the story of Eden?
A. Gardening is a valuable skill for everyone to learn.
B. Community gardens can improve the environment.
C Young people are advocated to build cultural confidence.
D. Personal courage and initiative can lead to collective change.

A groundbreaking study led by Stanford Medicine has revealed that premature babies who listened to recordings of their mothers reading to them exhibited more mature white matter in key language areas of the brain. This research marks the first randomized controlled trial to demonstrate a link between early speech exposure and brain development.
The study involved hospitalized premature babies who regularly heard recordings of their mothers reading stories or speaking. At the conclusion of the study MRI scans showed that a critical language pathway in these babies was significantly more developed compared to a control group of premature babies who did not receive the hearing stimulation. This finding suggests that exposure to mother’s speech can actively promote brain maturation during a critical developmental period.
Lead author Katherine Travis notes, “This is the first evidence that a speech experience is contributing to brain development at this very young age. It represents a potentially transformative way to approach neonatal (新生儿) care, with the goal of improving language outcomes for children born prematurely.”
The research highlights a common challenge faced by premature babies, who are often born at least three weeks early and may spend weeks or months in the hospital. During this time, they miss out on the consecutive hearing stimulation they would typically receive in the womb (子宫), which is crucial for language development.
The intervention was simple yet effective: premature babies listened to recordings of their mothers’ voices for about 2 hours and 40 minutes each day. Despite the relatively short duration of the study, the effects on brain development were clear and measurable.
The study not only provides a practical, low-cost method to support premature babies’ brain development but also opens new pathways for improving neonatal care practices worldwide. By demonstrating that the mother’s voice recordings can enhance brain development, this research offers hope and a concrete strategy to help lessen the risk of language delays often associated with premature birth.
28. What did MRI scans reveal about premature babies exposed to mothers’ voice recordings?
A. They had much larger brains.
B. Their hearing improved significantly.
C. They spoke earlier than full-term babies.
D. A key language pathway was more advanced.
29. What does the underlined word “consecutive” in Paragraph 4 mean?
A. Various. B. Unplanned.
C. Continuous. D. Unnecessary.
30. What can we know about mothers’ voice recordings?
A. They potentially reduce language delays.
B. They are too expensive for widespread use.
C. They are effective if played as long as possible.
D. Their effect on voice development remains to be seen.
31. Which is the suitable title of the text?
A. The Importance of MRI Scans in Neonatal Care
B. The Risks of Premature Birth on Language Skills
C What Distinguishes Premature Babies from Full-Term Babies
D. How Mothers’ Voice Recordings Boost Premature Babies’ Brain

Since 2014, the Katmai National Park in Alaska has held “Fat Bear Week”, a week-long online contest between selected bears in the park, with viewers voting over the Internet for the bear which appears to have gained the most weight.
In winter, brown bears in Alaska lie inactive for months, sleeping. During this time, they lose up to a third of their body weight. So before their long winter sleep, it’s important for the bears to put on as much weight as possible.
The bears know lots of food can be found in the area’s rivers. That’s because in the summer, salmon (红鲑) are swimming upstream to lay eggs. The contest is focused on bears feeding in the Brooks River. One hot spot is Brooks Falls, where the salmon have to jump up a 6-foot waterfall to continue upstream. Bear cameras in the park allow online viewers to watch the 12 competing bears eat and grow.
Normally, brown bears weigh between 600 and 900 pounds. But over the summer, they can put on as much as four pounds a day. By the end of the summer, male bears often weigh over 1,000 pounds. Some past winners of Fat Bear Week have weighed as much as 1,400 pounds.
During the contest, viewers are given a description of each bear. They’re also shown “before” and “after” pictures of the bear, so they can see how much weight the bears have put on since the beginning of the summer. Viewers vote between two bears at a time for the best “fat bear”. The winners are paired up against other bears until there’s only one left.
This year’s big winner was a 1,200-pound bear called “Chunk”. At the beginning of the summer, many people were worried about Chunk, since he had a broken jaw — probably from a fight. But somehow Chunk managed to keep eating and putting on weight. Chunk’s ability to gain weight means more than just winning the contest — it’s a strong sign that he’ll be able to survive despite his broken jaw.
32. Why is the contest held?
A. To promote tourism in the park.
B To find the bear gaining most weight.
C. To raise funds for bear conservation.
D. To compare the strength between bears.
33. Why is Brooks Falls a hot spot?
A. It is the place where salmon can find food.
B. The bears prefer to rest there after feeding.
C. The salmon there are easier targets for bears.
D. It has the most beautiful scenery for photography.
34. What is the paragraph 5 mainly about?
A. Working contents of the organizers.
B. Rules and procedures of the contest.
C. Bears’ changes throughout the summer.
D. Approaches to participating in the contest.
35. What did Chunk’s victory imply?
A. He was the most adorable bear.
B. He weighed the most in the contest.
C. He was the heaviest bear ever recorded in the park.
D. He gained most weight in spite of his broken jaw.

When it comes to finding a new home, the journey doesn’t always lead to traditional construction sites. Instead, many are now turning their attention to innovative, efficient, and cost-effective housing solutions. Prefabricated accessory dwelling (预制附属住宅) units (ADUs) are at the forefront of this shift, attracting potential homeowners with their affordability and flexibility. These units are not only economical but also customizable, allowing for a personalized touch. ____36____
These homes come pre-designed. The process is simplified as these structures are built off-site and assembled (组装) on location. ____37____ This efficiency not only saves money but also reduces the environmental impact typically associated with conventional construction practices.
____38____ Solar panels, high-quality heat-barrier materials, and advanced window coatings are applied in these houses, which helps reduce heating costs while promoting environmental conservation. By selecting this route, homeowners enjoy long-term savings through lower electricity bills.
Families or individuals needing extra space without committing to full-scale property development projects — like constructing entirely separate structures on their land—might find prefabricated ADUs advantageous. They are smaller secondary houses or extensions built within your property limits but separate from your main residence. ____39____ That could generate additional income or house aging family members close by yet independently.
For individuals interested in sustainable living and modern design, prefabricated ADUs offer a unique solution that is eco-friendly. Many producers now use recycled materials and integrate energy-efficient systems into their designs which contribute to reducing the carbon footprint of these buildings. Additionally, each component is made precisely in a factory setting before assembly on site. ____40____ This further enhances the environmental benefits of choosing a manufactured home contractor for your next housing project.
A. That meets individual needs and preferences.
B. The appeal of ADUs lies in their affordability.
C. So they are ideal for use as guest houses or rental units.
D. There’s minimal risk of material overuse or unnecessary waste.
E. It contributes to significantly cutting down on construction time.
F. It makes them perfect for those requiring comfort alongside functionality.
G. Many modern prefabricated homes come equipped with energy-efficient features.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
“Ka-boom!” Thunder resounded after lightning flashed across the sky. The rain poured down. I had to brave through the storm on the way home from school. I sighed. It just had to rain on the day I forgot to bring my umbrella. Thankfully, there was a taxi stand right ahead, where I could seek some shelter even for a brief moment. Before I could set off on the last part of my journey, I saw a familiar face approaching me with an umbrella. It was my brother coming to my rescue!
Holding the umbrella, we walked home, talking and laughing. Arriving home, we took off our shoes. Then I noticed my brother’s shoes were all wet, with water in them. These shoes were his favorite. He loved playing football very much. These shoes were especially suitable for playing football, so he wore them almost every day. Now they were worn out. I asked him, “Why don’t you ask parents to buy a new pair for you?”
He said, “I don’t want to be a burden(负担), so I haven’t mentioned it to anyone. Although these shoes are a bit old, I can put up with them. Please, my dear sister, don’t tell parents about it.” “You’re so nice. I won’t tell them. Let me dry your shoes first. Later I’ll make you some cookies. You can go to your room to do your homework.”
My heart ached for him. I knew how much he loved playing soccer and how important it was for him to have proper shoes to run and kick the ball. I remembered the kindness he had always shown me, and I knew I had to do something for him. As I promised, I didn’t mention it to my parents, but I knew what I would do next.

C. Young people are advocated to build cultural confidence.
D. Personal courage and initiative can lead to collective change.
【答案】24. B 25. A 26. D 27. D

At the conclusion of the study, MRI scans showed that a critical language pathway in these babies was significantly more developed compared to a control group of premature babies who did not receive the hearing stimulation.
C. What Distinguishes Premature Babies from Full-Term Babies
D. How Mothers’ Voice Recordings Boost Premature Babies’ Brain
【答案】28. D 29. C 30. A 31. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇说明文。介绍了斯坦福医学院的一项突破性研究,为新生儿护理提供了新思路。
【28题详解】
细节理解题。根据第二段“At the conclusion of the study, MRI scans showed that a critical language pathway in these babies was significantly more developed compared to a control group of premature babies who did not receive the hearing stimulation.(在研究结束时,MRI扫描显示,与未接受听力刺激的早产儿对照组相比,这些婴儿的关键语言通路明显更发达)”可知,这些婴儿的一个关键的语言通路更先进。故选D项。
【29题详解】
词句猜测题。根据第四段“The research highlights a common challenge faced by premature babies, who are often born at least three weeks early and may spend weeks or months in the hospital. During this time, they miss out on the consecutive hearing stimulation they would typically receive in the womb (子宫), which is crucial for language development.(这项研究凸显了早产儿面临的一个共同挑战,他们通常早产至少三周,可能会在医院待上几周或几个月。早产儿在医院的这段时间,错过了在子宫里通常会得到的____听觉刺激,而这对语言发展至关重要)”可知,早产儿在住院期间错过了本应在子宫内为期几周或几个月的听觉刺激,consecutive修饰hearing stimulation,强调这种刺激在这段时间里是不间断、连贯的,与“Continuous (持续的)”意思最接近。故选C项。
【30题详解】
细节理解题。根据最后一段“By demonstrating that the mother’s voice recordings can enhance brain development, this research offers hope and a concrete strategy to help lessen the risk of language delays often associated with premature birth.(通过证明母亲的录音可以促进大脑发育,这项研究提供了希望和具体的策略,以帮助降低通常与早产相关的语言延迟的风险)”可知,母亲的声音录音有可能减少早产儿的语言发育迟缓风险。故选A项。

Since 2014 the Katmai National Park in Alaska has held “Fat Bear Week”, a week-long online contest between selected bears in the park, with viewers voting over the Internet for the bear which appears to have gained the most weight.
B. To find the bear gaining most weight.
【答案】32. B 33. C 34. B 35. D

On the day of his birthday, I handed him a box decorated beautifully.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I secretly started to save up my pocket money. I spent less on my school lunch and I didn’t buy any snacks. I even took on a small part-time job to earn extra cash. On weekends, when I usually went out with my friends having fun, I helped my neighbours look after their kids. I put the money they gave me in my piggy bank. Every day, I would take out the money and count it. Day by day, the amount grew larger and it was enough for a gift. And my brother’s birthday was drawing near.
On the day of his birthday, I handed him a box decorated beautifully. When he opened the box, his eyes widened in surprise and joy. He took the shoes, examining them carefully, and said, “I didn’t expect this. You’re the best sister ever!” I hugged him tightly, feeling warmth spreading all over. “You’re the best brother of mine. I’m just returning the kindness you’ve given me.” I replied. Our bond has grown stronger ever since. The shoes became a symbol of our love and support, a reminder that no matter what challenges we faced, we could count on each other to overcome them.
